HP 900 Series printer and OS 10.4

I am having problems trying to print on my series 900 HP printers.
When I press print it starts and then stops printing. I then have to press start printing again for it to finish. In the process it wastes a couple of pages of paper.
This started when I Upgraded to OS 10.4. Is any one else having this problem? I have been working with HP but with no success.

David, Welcome, As you have probably already fiqured, often when you update and or upgrade for some unknown reason it affects print drivers as well as other things..
This may be old hat but just as a reminder..
Be sure you have the correct drivers from HP's site, in the Applications folder and or your HP's set up utility.

HP AIO 900 series printer issues...

I can get it to print using the gimp driver included in the system when I got my computer. I'm using a USB cable with no windows computer involved. However more advanced features such as selecting paper i.e. glossy, flat etc... were not available. I downloaded new drivers from the HP website and thought that would correct my problem and that seemed to do the trick. It gave me all the options I wanted and more. Options for Photos with sizes AND paper choices. However it would no longer allow me to print... It just sat there. It never said why, never gave an error. I restored the original function but it just gave me sad picture quality copies. This printer always made wonderful photos but not with computer...I wonder if anyone has any luck or recommendations for a good wireless networked photo printer for a Tiger? I would appreciate any and all input.

If so, only a CUPS driver like Gimp-Print or hpijs/ESP ghostscript will ever work.

HP Deskjet F4100 series printer and AIRPORT EXTREME

From browsing this forum, there seems to be a lot of people with printing problems. Add me to the list!
I have an HP Deskjet F4100 printer attached to the USB port of the AIRPORT EXTREME. Printing a very simple and small text document wirelessly from one of my Windows Vista Laptops works fine, but when I try to print a more complex page, the print spool shows a print error and restarts printing the page. This is the case for the Windows Test Print Page for example. I bought the AIRPORT EXTREME to provide wireless printing capabilities at home. When the printer is attached directly to the laptop, printing is fine. Thank you for your help.

I just upgraded my HP Pavilion DV6-6113cl Entertainment desktop PC to Windows 10 (32 bit or 64 bit? Unknown). My printer isn't working and as best I can tell, I need to download a new driver. If it's even compatible. I'm not finding where/how to do that. Any help is appreciated!

How you enable double-sided printing can depend on the applications from whick you wish to print. Example: if I print to my HP PhotoSmart from Safari, I get this print dialog box:
(Edit: OOPS! Note that I forgot to switch printers when i took the scene-shots, so ignore the "Brother" reference. It's should look the same for your HP.
Note the selection labled "Safari" near the bottom. If I change that form "safari to "Layout: I get this:
Note the option for two-sided printing appears for your selection. If I print from Word, the box is different:
The "Copies & Pages" option can be changed to "Layout" when you click it, again allowing the selection of two-sided printing.
If you tell us what applciaiton is vexing you, we may be able to give better-focused information.

HP 4200 series Printer Drivers

I am having a problem getting a new HP Deskjet F4280 to print. When I send a document to print, all the normal functions happen from selecting the number of copies , etc, and the print progress bar shows up and fills in but it never prints. The jobs completed shows whatever I send as completed with the time and date. I can get the Deskjet to Scan and Copy from the computer controls. I tried to find updated drivers at Apple.com for this printer but they are only there for OSX 10.5. Leopard.
I have done the all steps HP online assistance has suggested but, do not have a solution yet. I have loaded the latest OSX drivers from the HP site and installed them. If I use the Printer Setup Utility to try to install it as a HP printer I am unable to find drivers, I presume because the printer is not listed (old listing of printers)
I have now used the generic printer option in the Printer Setup Utility and have found I have a driver version 10.4 and PPD file version 1.0 listed.
I go to "about this Mac" and look at the printer option, I now have installed:
Deskjet F4200 series:
Status: Idle
Print Server: Local
Driver Version: 10.4
Default: Yes
URI: usb://HP/Deskjet F4200 series?serial=CN8882D3VP05BR
PPD: Generic PostScript Printer
PPD File Version: 1.0
PostScript Version: (2000.0) 1
Can anyone tell me if this is the correct driver version I should have? Any idea what I need to do to get the printer to print?

OK, so I "think" you're installing driver version 9.7.1? - Yes
In Print & Fax/Printer Setup, are you clicking on Default - which gives the default browser? - That's the main problem I think anyway. I cannot get the Print Browser selection window within the Printer Setup Utility to accept this printer so I can make it the default printer. If I go to the HP selection list, the Series 4200 or the drivers are not listed so I can't select the default printer.
If I try the "Other" selection I am taken to my Documents folder and can get to all the other folders but I cannot find the printer and drivers in any subfolder.
And the printer is connected by USB? Yes, I know that is working correctly as the install 9.7.1 program identifies the printer and gives the serial number when plugged in and turned an as directed
Again - "generic" won't be useful in any way. I have found that to be very true.
I don't understand what "the utility is not up to date" means here.
What I mean is that when I select to "add a printer" I'm taken to the "Print Browsed " window where I hi-light the 4200 Series printer and make that selection. The Print Browser window tels me I have selected that printer and that is located at G4 (??? See below). I am then asked to select the printer or driver from the list provided in the drop down listings. I go to HP and the Series 4200 printer is not listed.
Have you repaired permissions? (Disk Utility in Utilities) - Yes, every time I reinstall the 9.7.1 program.
COULD the problem be that the printer is located at G4 instead of the Hard Drive? Just to make sure can you tell me how can I change the location to the Hard Drive ?

Can't add Epson xp-200 series printer to Macbook Air

Hi all,
hoping someone can help me with this before I throw either the macbook or the printer out the window in frustration!
I recently purchased a new Epson XP-200 series printer and try as I might I cannot get it to connect to my Macbook Air either via wi-fi or USB. I have used both the CD that came with the printer and downloaded the software online. Currently when I have the USB connected the computer recognises that the printer is there but when I try to add the printer it attempts to update the software, then tells me that it cannot as the software is not currently available on the server. I cannot get past this step as the computer won't let me add the printer without updating the software and Apple then tells me it doesn't have the software available despite their website telling me it is and also despite me downloading it from the web.
Can someone please help me get past this issue!
The reason that I bought a new printer was that my previous HP WIFI printer one day just stopped working, or should i say disconnected form the computer and i couldn't reconnect it, I assumed it was the printer, but given that I can still copy on it I'm now thinking it was a computer issue, or one of the OS upgrades to be more precise that caused the issue!

In what context do you see "the software upgrade"?
Is it trying to update firmware on your Epson printer?
Is it trying to update some software on your Mac? That would be highly unlikely since the download link I sent you has the latest software.
To update firmware on your Epson, get the Epson iPrint app for your iPad from the iOS App Store. (By the way, does your iPad connect to the Epson using AIrPrint? Assuming it does ...)
Run Epson iPrint. Click the printer. Then click "Advanced Settings". Then do a firmware update from there.

I recently did a Software update to 10.6.8 and my Lexmark printer 900 series can no longer speak to my iMac.

It is saying I need new drivers, but can not found any on the Lexmark site. I have JUST brought this printer and it was working fine until the update. Any help please?

I get the Printer ready but with a ! mark in the triange - with the following -
"You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose Software Update from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn’t available in Software Update, contact the manufacturer of your printer."

PSC 1315 no longer supported for scanning since Mac OS X v10.5 or while using any newer OS, there is no scan software provided by either HP or Apple (Image Capture)
