HP 9180 Photosmart Pro Photos washed out

I have a photosmart pro 9180 and the photos from Photoshop elements 3.0 and MS Office Picture manager 2003 sp2 are washed out.  I've been trying different settings but have not had much success.  How do you turn on the photosmart settings?  Would it be worth it to purchase a newer photoshop or something else?  Pictures are dark and washed out.
Any and all advise is appreciated.

I have the same issue.  I've owned it for a year and I've never printed an acceptable picture.....HELP!

  • Photos washed out in Lightroom

Hi - I relatively new to color management and am struggling with Lightroom. I'm shooting raw images on a 40D and bringing them into lightroom converting to DNG. I've recently upgraded my computer and am running Vista. I've calibrated my monitor with Huey Pro.
My issue seems to be with Lightroom. On the screen, in both library and develop, they are washed out and dull. When I print them or upload them to the web, they are darker than on the screen. I have downloaded the icc profiles and the print result is the same whether I have Lightroom or the Printer manage color.
When I export my photo to Elements 6 ((PSD,ProPhoto RGB, 16 bits) and apply the auto lighting and color adjustment, my picture brightens up and looks great. Printing from elements is really close to what I see on the screen and is where I want it to be.
When I save the adjusted photo back to lightroom, it reverts to its previous washed out version!
I've been using lightroom for a year or so without these issues so something seems to have changed! Anybody have any ideas that might help?

What color space are you working in with PE?
Usually, when photos appear dull in LR, it's because you've made little or no adjustments to them, and are comparing them to out of camera JPEGs. The latter have been boosted, sharpened, and more by the in camera software.
Another reason they may look poor on your web browser or other Windows apps is they aren't color managed. Be sure to Export in sRGB space to get the best match with outside applications.
Be sure your monitor is set to your calibrated profile, and it sounds as though more attention might be paid to its Gamma.

  • Switched to Mac & CS6 and photos washed out - Please Help

    Hello,
I'm new to photography but taking every chance I can to learn and slowly upgrade my tools.  I recently switched from a PC(CS3) to Macbook Pro(CS6).  Since doing so, I am having a huge problem. My photos show up exactly as I want them to on my Mac, in and out of Photoshop, but look washed out almost everywhere else, including the web, on PC's and in print(Shutterfly).  There are a few exceptions like facebook, but still not all of the photos show up the same quality as what I saw on my Mac.
I thought I did a good job of calibrating my Mac and I'm not doing anything different in PS, but I'm completely lost on what could be causing this.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated because all my PS books and google searches have left me with no answer.
I can upload one of my jpg's so you can see what I'm seeing off my Mac if needed.
    Thanks,
    Rachel

    Hi Trevor,
Thank you for coming to my rescue.
I couldn't upload my original jpg because they are 5mb+, so I took printscreens off of one of the PC's that look awful, but once I moved them over to this Mac, they looked fine.  I know the PC is not the best and is pretty old, but other photographer's pictures look fine on it, especially compared to mine.  So I'm not sure how these will come out on your screen, but on my Mac they look the same as my originals.
To answer your questions, I use RAW files as Adobe RGB and convert them to sRGB before saving as jpg for end use.  I have also tried using RAW as sRGB right off the bat and then saving as jpg for end use.  I do not edit from jpg's, only RAW normally.
Could explain your last sentence further: "If your histogram has a flat line at the begining and/or its end, then that would result in a flat looking image, and is easily fixed in ACR."
    Thank you,
    Rachel

  • HP Officejet Pro 8100 - Washed out blacks in images / Dark blacks in text prints???

Here is my system: iMac Maverics OS, HP Officejet Pro 8100, Photoshop, Pages & Genuine inks.
I print a text page (Black and various colours) from Pages/Text Edit or any other text program and the colours are deeply saturated, blacks are black and I'm totally happy.
I print the exact same text, recreated in Photoshop, everything is washed out. Blacks are greyish, colours are pastel & it looks like it's been printed at 50% opacity.
I saved my Photoshop text mock up as a .Jpg .TIF .BMP and tried printing them in Pages & Mac Preview - same washed out results as when I print direct from inside Photoshop.
All my software is genuine, drivers are up to date. It's like HP use one process to print text and a whole other process to print images, **bleep** is going on???
Please advise on how to fix, if anyone else is having or has had similar issues.....

Hello @pA8100 , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you're experiencing Photoshop colour issues.  I would like to help.
It is possible you need to adjust the colour settings in Photoshop from RGB to CKMY.
I would recommend utilizing this article on How to Convert RGB to CMYK in Photoshop.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Playbook displaying my photos:- washed-out, reds and greens look faded,

Hello x Im new here just got my Playbook
    Can anyone help with this.
Two weeks ago I bought a Blackberry Playbook from Simply Electronics over the internet simplyelectronics.net. The website was in english money, union jack icons plus english phone number. I phoned customer services about an issue just to check the firm out, then went ahead with my purchase and received it in four working days.
I have since found out, like many other people who ordered from them, that Simply Electronics is in some other country - I do not know if it's China or U.S.A. I would never have known if I had not looked them up on the net for reviews. They seem to have changed their website now to American dollars.
That is not the essential problem though, this is:-
The Blackberry Playbook, though superb, slick and working fine in all ways, has a problem with displayment of colour photographs. The colour is washed out, particularly reds and greens. Photos which look vibrant on my Sony Xperia phone and on my computer, look very jaded on this tablet, although the resolution and clarity is superb. It's not just the saturation that is poor. There is a colour bias.
I am a photographer and I primarily got this tablet specifically for showing photos to people (taken with my Canon SLR camera and my Sony cameraphone). It is now gutting for me to see the vibrant reds coming up as a burnt orange or browney red. Grass looks washed out and not lush as it was in the photo.
I do believe there is a fault with this Playbook.
Do you know if this is a known problem or issue with the Blackberry Playbook or with Tablets in general. Do you know what I could do about it? Do you know how I could get in touch with Blackberry to tell them about it.
Returning it to SimplyElectronics if they are in another country would be expensive and I may just get another Playbook with the same or a different fault - too much hassle.
I do not know what my best course of action would be. Can you help.
The fact I got the Blackberry Playbook for £204 postage free, is some consolation as it's a good item with no other flaws, but when I see my photos on the screen, the colour problem seems too big a deviation from normal to be satisfied with it.
What can you advise. Is this colour wash-out a common thing. How do I contact Blackberry?
    Carolyn

I don't know have this issue with pictures and images. The color rendition is superb. It is not a general fault of the Playbook.. there could be some issue with the one you have.
First, try a reset of the Playbook. Press and hold the Power key, up and down volume (-/+) all three buttons simultaneously, for about 10-12 seconds. You should the red LED blink and that should allow a reset of the PlayBook and to power up. Afterwards, do the images appear any better?

  • Washed out background image on Treo Pro

    Hi:
When I set my background image on my today screen (check the box in settings, browse to image - use 320x320 resolution) I get a "washed out" version of the image regardless of its original color, tone or intensity. Images from the preinstalled themes are fine - vibrant and clear - but the user set images are very light (almost like a 50 percent transparency in Photoshop for example). I have tried both .jpg format and .png. Backlight settings do not cure this either.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hi Again:
Upon further investigation, I have discovered that the options for setting background and transparency levels is found through the pictures and videos explorer not the file explorer.
As suggested I have set the transparency to 0 and the image (Crab Nebula through the Hubble space telescope) is as bright and vibrant as it should be.
Thanks again for the direction - it's much appreciated.

  • MacBook Pro starts off in blue washed out tint then goes to grey screen

So I took out the stock HDD and replace it with a SSD and the laptop with working better then ever. Then later on at night I used the thunderbolt plug to connect it to a TV. After about 5 min the computer froze so I restarted it. But now when it reboots the screen has a blue washed out look. It won't open into OS X, instead the apple logo comes then the screen turns into a solid grey. It recognizes the SSD when I hold option but won't open it up. So I put the HDD back in and it does the same thing.
My MacBook Pro is an early 2011 15 inch with anti glare display
I'm pretty sure it was running on Mountain Lion because I didn't get a chance to upgrade to Mavericks yet.
The SSD is a 960 Crucial SSD.
I am past warranty with Apple Care so is there anything I can do to fix this?

  • 4K TV not recognized correctly: MacBook Pro Mid2014 15" reports a Samsung UE40HU6900 4K TV as 8K (7680x4320). This results in an ugly, washed out image half the size it should be. Is there a fix for this? (OSX 10.10.1)

    MacBook Pro Mid2014 15" reports a Samsung UE40HU6900 4K TV as 8K (7680x4320).
This results in an ugly, washed out image half the size it should be. If you turn off scaling everything is tiny as 8K are displayed on a 4K screen. To get the actual 4K resolution you have to turn on scaling. Still 8K is transferred to the device, but doubling the data lines makes the picture look washed out and create obscure effects for line borders.
Did anybody encounter this problem before? Is there a fix for this? (OSX 10.10.1)

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Photos looked washed out when played through a TV....

I have a new G5 iPod and a 60gig Photo. When plug then into the same TV with the same cable (s-video and audio) the pictures from the G5 look washed out. The iPod Photo colours look "brilliant" and are all but identical to the original digital pictures and when shown on my iMac 20" screen.
Is this because of the video aspects of the G5 and the "corners" cut to get the unit size down (hence no fire wire).
Please advise, I feel like returning this and sticking to the Photo.
    Thank in advance.

  • Lumia 620 Photos with Flash Washed Out?

May I find out if this is normal or there might be a fault with my phone? I'm running the Amber update on Lumia 620
The photo on the left has flash turned on and it is noisy and off color. Using flash appears to give the photo a washed out / instragram look.
Both photos were taken in natural light.

hi mate, i have experienced some of the issues that others have faced here with the Amber update. the Amber update bought even more saturated colouring, and apparently there will be a return to natural colours in the upcoming Lumia Black update, due to land in early 2014.

  • Photo Prints Yellow and washed out

I am having problems printing photos on photo paper.  I have windows 7 64 bit and all my hp software and drivers are up to date.  My printer is c5180 and I have not had any trouble in the past.  I upgraded to windows 7 in Dec., and have had several printing issues since then.  By the way, I really loved the photo premiere software that came with my printer, but is no available with windows 7.  I have tried printing from several programs including picasa, and the windows photo viewer, which I also don't like as much as windows xp.  I have tried several different settings, including the default everthing on automatic, messed with the color setting in the printer settup, and tried printing on 8.5 x 11 as well as my 4 x 6 photo paper.  If I print on regular white paper the colors are just fine, it is only when I use photo paper.  My photo paper is HP Premium Photo paper.  I have attached scans of two photos and you can see the one on photo paper is yellow and washed out whereas the one on plain paper has good coloring.  Do I need to change anything in color profiles?
I have no idea how to get my pictures to display.  They are on picasa web albums and I also tried to just drag them in.

Did anyone ever solve this problem?  I have the exact situation with my C5180 and I am about replace it.

  • Why do my photos in "photos" look so washed out compared to iPhoto?

I don't like "PHOTOS," and I don't know why Apple came out with it for OS10. My pictures look washed out compared to how they look in iPhoto  I can't just click on a photo and see it in full screen. What am I missing?

I took them with various cameras. But that isn't important. I'm comparing how the same photos look in Photos and how they look in iPhoto. They look better in iPhoto.

  • Photosmart 8700 not printing Black & colours are washed out

Have an A3 Photosmart 8700 printer which has for no reason started to print in muted / knocked back colour and a solid black is now printing out as a washed out grey.
I've cleaned the printheads at all levels, tried a new cartridge, all of the normal things but cannot get it to work & cannot find anything online for this model.
In addition occasionally the printer will quit with a 'Filter Failed' message and I have to resend the document.

  • "Washed out" look of movie made from photos...

I created a 5 minute movie (using iMovie 08) consisting entirely of photos (using K. Burns effects).
Everything looked great in the iMovie application. I loaded it to my .mac web Gallery site and the whole movie is "washed out" - less vibrant colors.
I then tried saving it to the desktop as a Quicktime movie & same thing - all colors are washed out and less vibrant than the project I see in iMovie as I edit.
    Any ideas??
I have a brand new iMac running Leopard & with tons of space...
Thanks for any help you can give.

same issue here but with video files, doesnt matter in what way i export my video, the colors are always washed out.

  • Washed out photos after moving to iWeb '08

Ever since moving to iWeb '08 I've noticed that the photos on my web site appear washed out and lacking in color vibrancy. Normally, my photos are extremely bright, vibrant, and rich with over saturated colors, but a side-by-side comparison with images displayed on my site, and the same images as they appear in iPhoto or Aperture show clear differences in onscreen colors.
Has anyone else noticed this? I know the problem wasn't present in iWeb '06.
Is there something about my images or in the way they are imported (simply via drag'n'drop) that I should be doing differently?
