Was told at the shop this was compatible. However, the slot is smaller than the cartridge.

There are two printers with that number but one is called the Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One which takes 564 ink.
The older 3520 takes the 27 ink.

  • Can I use Replacement Printer ink cartridges for HP officejet Pro 8610

I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. I previously had an 8600. They both use the same ink cartridges. I had just installed some remanufactured 950 XL and 951 XL cartridges in the old printer and tried to use them in the new printer. Of course I got an error message that cartridges weren't HP but the printer would still work. I would like to know if I can use other remanufactured ink cartridges with the new printer or if there is some way for the printer to allow me to use other ink cartridges as the HP cartridges are way over priced for the consumers. I hope there is a person out there that is conservative like me and tries to find the best bargains on everything. Your solutions would be appreciated. I waited on HP Support Assistant for 10 minutes with a dialogue I would be connected to a technician in less than a minute. They must have been on break or some other excuse, so I thought I would try this instead. Blessings. John Richardson

    Hey @rockhoundjohn
Here's the thing, yes, you can refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems.
QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. remanufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.
Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely
70% of refilled cartridges had some form of reliability problem
Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing. You may think you're saving money on remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference.  - Source
Most people think, 'well of course that is what HP or an HP representative would say', but I have done some research and found that many others have too. Here is a perfect example of somebody who does not work for HP in any way and basically is a customer advocate (in my opinion) ; Should you refill your printer’s ink cartridges? HP says no (of course) By Matthew Murray
I found the above article interesting and genuine.
My personal recommendation is to buy the HP XL cartridges as they are more cost efficient, and be mindful in the printer you choose when buying an inkjet. The 8610 was a good choice. The expected page yield of the HP 950XL High Yield Black Original Ink Cartridge is 2300 pages. The regular size cartridge page yield is 1000, still good but the XL is by far a better value. Some of the Photosmart printers or Deskjets are great for what they are intended for, but do not have as good of a cost per page.
HP's recommendation; Keep in mind that page yield is just one component of cost, and that factors such as quality, reliability, productivity, and efficiency affect cost as well. Products that work reliably will ultimately save you time and money. When you choose an inkjet printer, make sure you consider your individual printing needs.
    - Source
To summarize, again, yes you can refill the cartridges. The printer is not programmed to reject them. Sometimes the cartridges will not work and of course because they are non HP, HP would not be able to do anything to help. HP cartridges have a 2 year manufacture warranty; Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges and Customer-Replaceable Printheads for HP Inkjet Supplies, this may give you comfort knowing HP stand behind their product.

    Hi @mojo1042,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are getting the "Cartridge Error,"  with your HP Officejet 4315xi, after putting in a new cartridge. I am sorry this has happened, but I am happy to help!

  • Black ink cartridge will not fit into assigned slot.

I cannot insert new black ink (564) into original black in spot (564 setup)on the left side of ink carriage, because new cartridge is wider than original. I already inserted a 564XL black ink into the black ink slot on the far right side of carriage. Printer would not work with only one black cartridge, so I bought a 2nd 564 Black ink cartridge to install on far left side of cartridge (but it won't fit).

Thanks for the model number and additional information.
The cartridge on the far left is called Photo Cartridge. You need to install a replacement photo cartridge in that slot. See the document below to understand the difference between the black and photo cartridges:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01839024
The two cartridges have different label icons on the packaging and on the cartridge. This will help you identify the correct cartridge in the store.

  • HP Deskjet 1510 Tri-color Ink Cartridge Error

I just bought a HP Deskjet 1510 back in August and I loaded the HP original ink cartridges that come with the purchase. For the first 5 print jobs it was working well, but somehow after a while my laptop and the printer itself just kept warning that there's low ink level in the cartridges (especially the tri-color one). I haven't even got to use the tri-color cartridge much as I've been printing in grayscale ever since I've used this printer.
I've tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back in again; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I thought it might be a contact issue so I cleaned those parts too but it didn't change anything.
It's getting extremely frustrating as I'll have to do this for god knows how many times for every single page I print or copy. This happens to the black cartridge too but 90% of the time it's the tri-color cartridge.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Hello @ut32w , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I hope you had a great holiday!
I understand from reading your post that you are running into cartridge errors.  I'd like to help!
I would first suggest removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend running through the steps listed in the document below:

  • Ink cartridge for photosmart can i used

dont remember my model but is a photosmart with touchsmart can I used ink cartridge 61

    Hi @tercio7
Not knowing your printer model makes it a little difficult to answer your question with a cut and dry yes or no, but I can help you figure it out!
    HP 61 2-pack Black/Tri-color Original Ink Cartridges compatibility;
    HP Deskjet 1000 Printer series - J110
    HP Deskjet 1050 All-in-One Printer series - J410
    HP Deskjet 2000 Printer series - J210
    HP Deskjet 2050 All-in-One Printer series - J510
    HP Deskjet 3000 Printer series - J310
    HP Deskjet 3050 All-in-One Printer series - J610
HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2010 Printer K010
HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2060 All-in-One Printer K110
I guess that was easier than I expected. No, the 61 cartridges do not work with any Photosmart printers.

  • Original Inkjet Cartridge Capacity?

Purchased new HP Officejet PRO 8000 Wireless printer.  The original 4 print cartridges that came in the box lasted about 15 pages before running out.  HP Support told me that was normal.  The DATASHEET for the printer states in the section labelled "What's in the Box" that it contains "HP 940 Black Officejet Ink Cartridge (~1000 pages), HP 940 Cyan/Magenta/Yellow Officejet Ink Cartridge (~900 pages)".
This is false advertising.  Has anyone else experienced this? [Text removed.]

I observed the same with original cartridges. They ran out at about 200 black and white pages. Yes colors are gone too without printing in color. Definitely HP is doing false advertising on those cartridges.

  • HP Photosmart 3310 printer. Problem with new 363 original hp cartridges.

I live in Italy and I bought an HP Photosmart 3310 all-in-one printer in US. Once the original ink cartridges have been running-out I bought a complete set of HP Original new ink cartridges in Italy. Now the printer's display shows the following message: "Printer configured to use 02 ink cartridges" and do not want works at all. The ink cartridge I bought are 363 (n.6 cartridges for about 70euros!). Please let me know if there's a way to change the printer configuration and allow it to work with 363 cartridges instead of 02. Thanks in advance for your reply. I'm looking forwarding your instructions. Best regards. Carlo D'Urso

Obviously, I can't speak for cdurso, but for my part, HP refused to help me with the region reset. Some foreign customer support representives simply told me repeatedly that my printer was obsolete, and I needed to buy a new one. However, I did find a very simple solution to my problem. I simply pulled the chip off of the ink cartrige from the region that the printer was set to, and I stuck it on to my new cartrige. I believe this will invalidate my ink level readings, but it does allow me to use the printer, which is now working flawlessly. I simply have to bypass the "expired cartrige" message I get every time I need to turn it on or reset it.

  • Photosmart 7520 ink cartridges

Q1)  I have a 8 month old Photosmart 7520 with 5 ink cartridge slots.  Previously I have only needed to buy the large black 364XL ink cartridge.  Last week, as my colour had run out,  I bought the 364 4-pack, which to my surprise has a large black, small pink, blue and yellow cartridges  -  no small black.  Can I buy the small black separately?
Q2)  I was also surprised that all 5  ran out simultaneously, whilst still showing a small amount on screen.  Are they designed to stop after so many copies, regardless of any ink left in any of the cartridges?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The small "black" cartridge is a photo cartridge, you can buy a 364 or 364xl photo cartridge separately.
There is a priming process that uses some ink when a cartridge is replaced to remove air from the printheads.  If some cartridges are low on ink (but perhaps not completely depleted) changing a different cartridge may cause enough ink to be used to deplete the low cartridges.
The document here has information on how ink is used in the printer, the Photosmart 7520 is an IIC printer in the terminology of that document.

  • Black ink cartridge not working after replacing

I replaced the black ink cartridge on my HP Photosmart 6510 because the print was getting faded.  Now the black will not print.  I used an original HP replacement cartridge and inserted it according to specifications.  I ran a test page and all colors printed except the black so I ran a printhead clean to no avail.  I wet a paper towel and touched it to the ink and it is not dried up.  Help!

It is definitely a hardware problem then.  Try the steps in the document below.  If that doesn't work, you will need to contact tech support.  If you are still in warranty, HP may replace the printer at no cost to you. I'll link the information to get in touch with them below. The link will take you to a form to fill out. Once you fill it out and it is processed, it will give you the printers warranty information, a case number, and the phone number to call.

  • HP Photosmart 5510 fails to print with brand new 364XL black ink cartridge

The original HP 364 'SETUP' black ink cartridge worked well and I bought an HP364XL black ink cartridge via the HP website.
I installed the HP364XL this morning, but it's failing to leave any ink on the pages.
The cartridge seems to fit OK and there are no error messages.  The paper goes through in the normal way, but comes out with no printing on it.  The date on the box is SEP 2014, so it's not out of date.
I've tried to find what's wrong.  I've checked the cartridge is properly installed and it seems to have ink in it.   I've tried printing using the black cartridge again and again with different settings, such as 'Fast draft' and 'Normal', but each time the paper emerges with no printing.  The 'Supply Levels' shows the black cartridge to be about 90% full.
    This question was solved.

This is normally caused by the vent on top of the cartridge being clogged, or by a dirty printhead. The document linked below will help you work out the problem. Let me know what happens.

  • Photosmart C309a black ink cartridge will not print

    Hi.
I am having problems with my Photosmart Premium C309a printer. It will not print using the black ink cartridge. I pulled this printer out of storage and the original cartridges had run out. I replaced these with brand new cartridges. When printing a quality report, everything turns out fine except there is no text and no black square from the black ink cartridge (however the photo black cartridge DOES print). Printing a page of text just results in a blank page. However, images and coloured text print out fine.
I have tried a lot of troubleshooting steps listed on these forums and elsewhere. Soaking the pritnhead seems to be the most effective solution for others but this has not worked for me. However I cleaned the printhead very thoroughly and there is no trace of ink anywhere in it. So far I have discovered that it is a hardware issue rather than a software one as there is no black ink on pages I try to photocopy. I have tried the following troubleshooting steps:
Turning both the printer and PC off and on again
Resetting the printer to factory defaults
    Reinstalling the ink cartridges
Automatically cleaning the printhead (several times)
Aligning the printhead (fails - probably due to the absence of black ink)
Soaking the printhead in hot water (twice)
Rinsing the printhead under running hot water
Manually scrubbing the printhead with cotton buds
Making sure the cartridges are vented properly
I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I 've soaked the heads, I've put genuine ink in. I've tried everything but cannot get it to print in the Black XL.  Prints all other colors and the photo black, but no in text black. So irritated right now !!!
    HELP ! ! !
I've even did a hard factory reset.

  • HP 7520 -- how to print using large black ink cartridge?

Hi, I've got the HP 7520 with the two black ink cartridges, one small and one large. However, as best I can tell, it's only using the black ink from the small cartridge, even when I print only in black and white (or "high quality grayscale"). Since 95% of the printing I need to do is just black and white (text, mostly) this is kindof annoying -- is there a way to force/encourage it to use the black in the bigger cartridge.
The reasons I believe it's not using the big ink cartridge is
    1) I've had to replace the small one half a dozen times in a pretty short time; the big one I haven't not at all, and it still shows up as full when I check ink levels2) when printing in B/W starts to get streaky, I run the "Print qualty diagnostic" page, and the "Black" section shows up as streaky but the "Photo" section (which appears to correspond to the larger blank ink cartridge) looks fine.
Also, when I photocopy in B/W it appears to work fine even when printing in B/W is not, so presumbly that's because it's using the big ink cartridge then.
Thanks in advance for the help/advice.
    -Mike

The large cartridge is black, the smaller cartridge is the photo cartridge.  There are a few things to check:
Make sure the proper media type is selected in the driver.  If you are mostly printing on plain paper make sure to select Plain Paper in the driver rather than Automatic.  It is possible for Automatic to misidentify the paper and think it is using photo paper.  When printing to photo paper the black cartrdige will not be used, only the photo and color cartridges.
In the driver settings for "Print in grayscale" select "Black ink only".
