HP All-In-One C 4580 Continues to Stump the Experts

I've had my C4580 All-in-one for about 3 months using a pretty new desktop running Vista.  It worked beautifully until about 5 weeks ago when it started getting crooked lines in the text and then bands that were stretched out, as if the paper were being shoved forward way to fast for the print heads to keep up with, therefore the paper and printheads were out of sync.
I can observe the paper shooting forward each time this stretching occures.  It seems to be especially bad when doing a color copy.  I have cleaned the back rollers and the pick up roller several times and even tried cleaning the front rollers.  It seems that it may be some sensor or even a software problem.
This problem is sporadic but getting worse.  I have been in contact via email with HP Support for the three weeks without any progress.   They get back to me right away and say that they are ready to help.  However, they do not seem to keep up with me and keep sending me links that don't relate to this problem.

Starting off, we are just going to work with one PC and see if we can't correct the issue there, then we will move to resolving the issue for the rest of the network. 
My initial question is to ask if you have checked the ink levels recently or replaced the cartridges? That information mgiht have a bearing on what is going on. 
Additionally, let's try to perform a complete and clean uninstallation and reinstallation. First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it. Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer. 
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.

    HP Photosmart 2610 All in One Printer   Paper feeds OK but the software and sensors are not allowing paper to feed until several steps are taken first.
    (I am using Windows 7.  I also use the virtual XP mode and mostly MS Office 2003 docs). 
    I have had this printer for several years and love it.  Before I toss it out, I thought I would check if I could get it to work properly before I buy another printer.  Note: I did put in a new HP black cartridge (because it was out of ink) but the printer was not working properly for several days before I changed the cartridge. The printer was at step 5 before ink change.
    Lately, each time I turn on my printer, I have to go through the same routine
    1. The printer wants to align the cartridges so I push OK
    2. The paper feeds into the printer and stops at the exact place to start printing.
    3. Error message appears that it is out of paper.  So I press OK to continue.
    4. It says "aligning print cartridges" runs through 2 sheets of blank paper without trying to do anything and then states "cartridge alignment failed"  "Press OK to continue"
    5. Screen is now normal and it appears it is going to work.
    6. It makes no difference if I used the copy function OR when I send a print job from the computer, the paper feeds into the printer and stops at the exact place to start printing but nothing happens.
    7. Error message appears that it is out of paper. OR that it is the wrong size paper.  I pull the paper that was at the proper place to be printed from the printer and then the error message says "Paper jam.  Press OK to continue"
    8.  I press OK.  The printer will then quickly feed in and eject 2 sheets of paper before it will actually start printing the print job.  It will work fine after this as long as I print from the same document.
    9. If I want to print a different document then I have to start all over again at step 6 to get the printer to work.  If I shut the printer off I have to go back to step 1.
    What I have already tried
    A.  Uninstalled and reinstalled the printer driver direct from HP web site.  I have done this several times with both the basic driver download and the complete package download.
    B.  I have done a partial reset by unplugging the printer, and then re-plugging the printer while pushing the  "# and 3" buttons while turning on the printer.  I have done this several times.  Each time it will work fine until I try a different document of turn off the printer.
    C. I have downloaded the HP Print and Scan Doctor and used it several times.  It states that "everything checks out OK"
    D. I have downloaded the HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility 4.0 but it does not work with my printer.
    E.  I have cleaned all the rollers and blown air throughout to make sure there were no bits of junk in the paper's path or blocking a sensor.
    F.  I have tried different brands and weights of paper (all 8½  x 11) but nothing works.
    Most of the problems started when I added the printer to the virtual machine so I could print XP files.  This may just be a coincidence because the printer has the same problems when I use the copy function without the computer being on.
    Thanks for looking at my issues.  Any help would certainly be appreciated.

    I just tried using Notepad as you suggested and had the same result.  Paper feeds in stops at proper place and error message "out of paper" 
    I just put in two new HP ink cartridges because the other two were low and I was told that this might be the problem. 
    I seem to remember that the HP 2610 shows 2 "ink icons" in the lower left corner.  One for black and one for color.  The ink icons would change from completly full to just an outline as the amount of ink went down.  Currently the black ink icon is missing
    This is a very frustrating problem because the printer works great after doing a few steps to get around the problem.  The fact that the problem reoccurs any time anything is changed is the major problem
    Most of the problems started when I added the printer to the Windows 7 virtual machine so I could work with Windows XP programs.  This may just be a coincidence because the printer still has the same problems when I use the copy function without the computer even being on.
    I want to thank you for all of your efforts.  Perhaps this is a unique problem that will never be solved and it is best to take my losses and buy a new printer.  As a last chance, if possible, could you refer my post to someone who is an expert with the HP 2610 printer.

    The MX922 (known as the MX926 in Australia) is supported by 10.10 and Windows 7. Whatever site you were looking at may not have updated their details. Here is a link from the Canon Australia web site showing the drivers and applications for this model for 10.10.

    As I was looking for an all-in-one solution to protect my iPhone in my pocket that could also double as a cleaning cloth, I came up with a low-cost solution. I purchased a cleaning cloth pouch used for sunglasses from Sunglass Hut.
    While being able to fit my iPhone inside, I wasn't quite satisfied with the length, so I folded the bag over and stitched across. Now it feels as if the bag was made for the iPhone. Here's how...

    Directions:
    1. Turn the bag inside out
    2. Fold the bottom of the bag 3/4" and pin down

    I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems connecting your printer to the internet.
    I have included a document about maintaining wireless connectivity.  Please follow the steps in "Solution two: Assign the printer a static IP address".  When you reach the steps about setting the DNS servers, for the Preferred DNS server please use 8.8.8.8 and for the Alternate DNS server please use 8.8.4.4.   These are Google's DNS servers. Once you have set the manual ip and dns servers, please try to enable web services. It should go through.

  • HP All-in-One Printer: any way to install the TWAIN driver only?

    I have an HP PSC 2355 all-in-one Printer/Scanner/Copier.
    The Mac OSX software/drivers are a whopping 100MB in size. I really only want to print (which is no problem without installing all of their software) and scan (which I can't seem to do without installing the software.
    I can't find a TWAIN driver (which I assume is what I need to scan) by itself. And the installation software doesn't give you a TWAIN-only choice
    I've installed the HP software bundle on my old PowerBook (just got a MacBook), I really don't want to litter my new computer with all their useless "features"...
    While this is probably a question for HP, thought I'd post it here.

  • HP Photosmart c7280 All-in-One Mac 10.7.1 (Lion) the "Two-Sided​" option is grayed and cannot use?

    I have a HP Photosmart c7280 All-in-One printer and a Macbook Air that runs the Lion operating system (10.7.1). 
    I am trying and needing to print via the "Two-sided" option that appears under the "Layout" pull down tab option, however, the "Two-Sided" option appears to be greyed out as if you are not allowed to use it.  I am sure that that is not the case I just do not know how to unlock it yet I guess?
    I just made sure that all of my software was up to date and it is currently.
    Everything else is perfect about the printer and I have been using it for years, so thank you!  I would just like to know what on earth I am doing wrong or need to do to unlock that "Two-sided" setting, so I do not waste a ton of paper!  Thanks again!

    Hi DAP413,
    In order to actiate the Two-Sided duplex accessory, you have to enable it from the printer settings:
    -Enter System Preferences > Print & Scan
    -Double click the Photosmart printer name to open the Print Queue.
    -Click the Printer Setup button
    -Click the Driver tab and make sure the Two-Sided Printing Accessory option is checked.

  • HP C7200 All-in-One printer will not print through the Wifi network

    I have used the HP printing and scanning Doctor but none of the proposed solutions have solved the problem. The blue light for wirelwss 802.11g service is on and connected to the same Wifi address as my laptop is using now. My Dell laptop is running Windows 7 and the printer works if I use the USB connection instead of the Wifi.  Any suggestions?

    I understand your printer is not connecting wireless and only connecting USB. I have some questions and ideas for you that should help. Let's get to it!
    Could you please remove the USB cable, run the Print and Scan Doctor again and send me a screen shot of the results from running the diagnostic tool?
    Also let me know which model from the C7200 series you have:
    HP Photosmart C7250 All-in-One Printer
     HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One Printer
     HP Photosmart C7288 All-in-One Printer
    Try power cycling the network devices:
    Turn off the printer and computer and unplug the router for 1 minute (do not press any buttons on the router).
    Plug the router back in and wait another minute, next turn on the printer and computer. Run the Print and Scan Doctor afterwards and try printing.
    Let me know how it goes and the results

    Hey , Welcome to the HP forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here. I see that you are trying to enlarge the size of a document you are trying to print. While the specific directions will change depending on your operating system, the program you are using, and the type of document you want to print, I can certainly make sure you get pointed in the right direction. Assuming you are trying to print a text document (and please let me know if you are not) then first you will want to highlight the text you are trying to change the text of. Once highlighted you are looking for an option found at the top of most windows. The option usually has a font name to its left such as Times New Roman. When you select a larger font size it will change the highlighted text so that it matches the size you selected. I've included an image of the option below.  If you are trying to print something that is not a text document then please let me know what program you are trying to print from as well as what operating system you are using. If you are not sure what your operating system is you can click here to find it. If you have any other questions please let me know.   • HP C309a All in one Printer - Problems with printing documents the correct size.

    Hi I recently purchased an HP 309a as a replacement for an EPSON printer which had to be replaced a couple of times so I thought I would change manufacturer.
    The HP printer prints well in post places but when I print from Excel on an A4 scale it only prints 3/4 size on an A4 page.  I tried everything to get it to print the correct size.  I have adjusted the settings to scale to A4, print boderless etc and it just will not print correctly.
    It seems to be ok in Word and many other programs so I don't know why there is an issue with Excel.  Iam I missing something, please help.
    Also is there any way to default the printer to A4 automatically instead of 8" x 11".

    I also have issues using this printer with Excel/ Word.
    When I am using Excel or Word I have to remove the HP 309a as my default printer.
    when set as default, excel and word just "hang" for up to 3 minutes when opening or saving.
    I called HP who said the printer works with all other files so basically it's tough. One of their tech guys tried to sort it out but couldn't.
    Has anyone else had this same problem? If so, how was it resolved?
    £300 for a printer that doesn't work with MS. It's not funny and I won't buy HP product again.

    My printer was working fine. I hadn't used it for a few days. Now, all of a sudden it says it's not connected to the internet. I don't know if it's because it's giving a hardware address for MAC or if it has the wrong IP address. I can't figure out any way to give it the new IP address.

    OK, that all looks good.  Is the firmware updated on the router?  Have you restarted the router (pull its power plug momentarily)?

    I just go my computer a few weeks ago.  It has windows 7.  I have added very little to it yet.  I have tried on numerous occasions to download the drivers for our printer.  I did attempt to use the cd that came with it, but that was for earlier operating systems.  What can I do to get this to download?  I really need my printer.
