HP Altec Lansing Speakers

Hi,
I have the HP DV6-3126sa with built in Altec Lansing speakers.
The problem is when im listening to stuff say on YouTube, when it hits a certain pitch it starts to buzz/whistle.
I have tried playing around with the Sound Control settings in Equaliser and turning it down a bit but it still does it.
What I have noticed is when its whistling/buzzing, if I press down on the bottom left of the laptop where the speakers are it kills the problem, but I cant sit doing that all the time.
Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?
Thanks,
Scott

I have also found another 3 threads with this problem that has no answers... is this known to HP?

They DO work on a lenovo machine but not my iMac. reset Pram - no luck. took speakers from wife's desktop, they
do not work when jack plugged into my iMac - Sys Prefs "SOUND" only lists "internal speakers/ built in" as available options.
I used my altec lansing speakers on 3 macs including this one for 5-6 years.....now with Mountian Lion I can only get internal speakers???
Ideas? Any/All help would be greatly appreciated - been going nuts with this for 2 days now.

    Hi,
When you start Messages fro the first time you are asked for an Apple ID
When this is verified and entered it appears in Messages Menu > Preference > Accounts and is Enabled.
The App should have also picked on on those iChat Accounst you had before.
These should be Enabled if they were when you last used iChat.
Exactly which "Accounts" are logged in can be seen in Message Menu > Accounts and will include the iMessage "Account" and Bonjour.
In the Window menu you will see CMD +0 for the Messages window and CMD+1 for the "Buddies" window which is a combined list at this stage.
Go to the Preferences > General Section and Untick the "Collect all accounts into one list".
This will give you separate iChat type Buddy lists.
You can check if that account/Buddy list is set to Invisible or if in the Preferences > Accounts > Security you have settings that will block some people from seeing you as On line.
You are saying Buddies can see you as On Line which implies they are still sending to your AIM based Names (@Mac.com is a valid AIM Screen Name)
I am not sure from your post if you are trying to iMessage their email IDs thinking they are Apple IDs and that they are using Messages as well.
There is no Buddy list for iMessages side
No-one can tell you are "On Line" until they have your details in the "To" spot in Messages with the correct iMessaged contact info (iPhone Number or Apple ID)
Obviously an Apple ID can be an email or look like one.
In some cases they are also valid AIM Screen Names as well.
In the case or the @mac.com name you may have linked this Apple ID to iMessages as well.

    Hello MeetDave,
Take a look in your Maintenance and Service Guide Manual, which should list all replaceable parts, part numbers, etc.  When I check the "product specifications" page, it says, "SRS Premium Sound with Altec Lansing speakers."
If the parts can be replaced, you will find them at HP Partsurfer
    Good luck!

  • New Altec Lansing speakers cause my IQ804 to freeze

I just got a set of Altec Lansing speakers (2 plus a woofer) that are meant to plug n play into the green jacks.  After a few seconds of playing in media player, they freeze the whole computer requiring a reboot.
    any suggestions?

    Hi,
According to Page 97 of your Maintenance & Service Guide, the part you need to order is 603694-001 from HP Parts Store.
I would always recommend checking with HP that this is the correct part when placing the order.
    Regards,

  • RFR remote controls Altec Lansing speakers

I have a set of Altec Lansing speakers. A remote to control the volume settings came with the speakers. When I try to use my apple remote while my computer is hooked up to my speakers, the apple remote adjusts the volume of the speaker control. Is there a way that I can change the frequency of the apple remote so that it will not operate on the same frequency as my spakers?

Try pairing the remote with your Mac:

  • Cq50-142us windows 7 64 bit headphones work but no sound from built in Altec-Lansing speakers

I recently installed Windows 7 64 bit on my CQ50-142US after the hard disk died.  I've installed all the drivers that apply, and in particular the Conexant driver for the built-in audio parts.  The system has built-in Altec-Lansing speakers.
I get no sound from the built in speakers, but if I plug in stereo headphones to the front-panel headphone jack, they work and they produce stereo sound no problem.
I can't see any way to test the speakers.  If the system has any built-in diagnostic capability, I can't find it.
A Google search suggests I'm not the only person with similar problems.
    Suggestions?

You can isolate this issue to a hardware or software fault by running a live distro of Ubuntu linix. See step number 2 to install it to a USB memory stick.
If the device is not recognized by Ubuntu during its config operations that the probem is likely to be with the notebook's system board.
Is your notebook still within the standard one year warranty period?

  • Altec Lansing imMini no longer works with Nano

    Hey,
I have a the Altec Lansing imMini speakers - which I originally bought for my Mini. When I bought the Nano, the speakers worked perfectly - though the Nano was slightly off-center. Recently, it only works occasionally (after a few plug/unplugs). Now, it doesn't seem to work at all.
The Nano still charges but no sound comes out (except the pathetic squeaking sound that the iPod makes when it first connects to the speakers).
Anyone else experienced similar erratic problems with Altec Lansing speakers - or in fact, anything at all that connects to the dock-connector?

Thanks dwb - it seems to have done the trick (for now, anyway!) Really appreciate your help.

  • 5.1 Surround Sound Altec Lansing with Macbook Pro

I am sure this question has been asked many times before, but I couldn't find an answer. I have 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound Altec Lansing speakers that came with my Dell Desktop from several years ago, and I recently switched over to mac by purchasing a macbook pro. I would like to know what the best way, if any, would be to get the speakers working with my macbook.
The 5 surround sound speakers plug into the back of the subwoofer, and the subwoofer has 3 cables (I'm guessing right/left/subwoofer) that connect to the back of the desktop. Are there any adapters that would allow me to use them with my macbook pro? Is there any way to just stream whatever sound I want to those speakers? Is it even possible? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is there a way to identify which computer outputs support 5.1 sound?  It is a media center PC, but I can't find that information anywhere.

  • 2 of 4 speakers and Subwoofer not working for Altec Lansing Lucasfilms THX Surround (circa 2003)

I am attempting to connect my Altec Lansing Lucasfilm THX 5.1 sound system to my HP ENVY All-in-one. I think the original audio card for the sound system came on a Dell with Soundblaster.
I have connected the green audio to the jack in the back which only gets 2 of the 4 speakers working (even after configuring the speakers). The subwoofer is connected to the sub jack in the back panel as well and is not working at all. I realize that I am trying to have an ancient sound system work with my fancy new HP Envy. Am I asking too much??  I thought maybe a driver update might be needed. But in theory, if those jacks are available in the back it should work (she says optimistically).
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Not a problem.  Thank you for the additional information.
It sounds like you have the speakers connected correctly.  If there is only one connector for all of the speakers, it may be that you will only be able to use two of them.  However, I am not certain why the subwoofer isn't working.  Is it selected in the Control Panel / Sound?  I realize that you said the speakers are configured in the Control Panel, but is the subwoofer separate?
I have an old (2001) Polk Audio set of speakers.  I have only been able to get two of them and the subwoofer to work with my new HP computer.  It sounds fine without the other two speakers.

    I have some more clues/data...
If I connect the XT1 USB Speakers to my PowerBook G4 running 10.4.8, everything works perfectly, reboot, power-up, everything.
One difference I noticed, on the PowerBook, the XT1's blue power LED is lit a second or two before the gray apple appears on boot and stays solid blue from that point on.
On the Mac Pro, the XT1's blue power LED is lit a second or two before the gray apple appears (like the PB) BUT shortly after the gray apple appears the blue LED flashes for less than a second.
If the Mac Pro USB Audio driver mutes the XT1 the blue LED will go out. If the USB power flickers the blue LED will go out.
    More clues, more confused.

  • Speakers Altec Lansing VS-3151 Connecting to HP Pavilion a1130n

I've successfully been using the Altec Lansing Speaker System VS-3151 that I purchased together with my HP Pavilion a650y in 2004. When we recently replaced our desktop, my daughter wanted to inherit the speaker system to use with her HP Pavilion a1130n that was purchased in 2005.  However, we can't determine how to connect those speakers to her desktop. Perhaps there is some kind of converter that we need?

Ok so how did you do it?

  • HT2494 Good afternoon, I have a set of 5 speakers + 1 subwoofer 5.1 from Altec Lansing and I would like to connect the 3 cables - 1 black + 1 yellow + 1 green - to my new i-mac. What connection type do I need? And where I can connect it? BR Pascal

    Good afternoon,
    I have a set of 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer 5.1 from Altec Lansing and I would like to connect the 3 exit cables  - 1 black + 1 green + 1 yellow - to my new i-mac 22" - acquired last week - equipped with only 4 USB 3.0 + 2 Thunderbolt + 1 Ethernet + 1 jack for micro or speaker.
What connector type do I need? And where can I connect ot?
Many thanks in advance for your help
    Best regards
    Pascal Quennesson

    Sorry you cannot
That speaker system is for sound cards on PC's which separate the channels, the Mac's don't seperate the channels or decode surround sound formats  and only pass the 5.1 through the dual analog/optical stereo mini port.
You might find a external device that accepts Toslink optical inputs and then separates the channels and sends the appropriate signal to the powered speakers.

  • Altec-Lansing XT1 speakers need to be unplugged after every shutdown

I recently bought a set of Altec-lansing XT1 speakers, partly because I read lots of good reviews but mostly because I missed being able to use my iSub.
They sound better than the internal speakers and having a subwoofer again makes a world of diffecence.
But one problem is becoming increasingly annoying: every time I shut down the computer, I have to unplug and re-plug the speakers' USB cord to get them working.
I have checked the settings in system prefs, MIDI setup and Garage Band, but nothing will make them work each restart except unplugging/plugging USB.
    Any suggestions?

Have used my Altec Lansing for a couple of years on my PC and now that I converted to Apple and hte Mac Mini, they do not appear to work. I plugged them into the audio output at the back. Anyone know why the sound is NOT now coming through the speakers?

Which Altec Lansing's do you have?
Are you sure that they are plugged into the Audio Output (Headphone) jack and not the Audio Input jack?
