Error Message: No disk has been detected.
HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC, windows 7 home premium 64 bit
hp BDDVDRW CT21L
Firmware version 1.02
I am convinced that it is the firmware for the drive. My problem is similar. The drive does not recognize Blu Ray disks, although it does recognize dvd and cd. I also have a problem with burning dvd's, although the drive is supposed to burn prettymuch everything short of blu ray blank media.
I've tried reinstalling and updating media smart a great number of times, and I do not really want to pay extra money for the full deluxe version of Cyberlink PowerDVD 12, as impressive as it is. The firmware is dated back to 2009, and I havent been able to find a link anywhere on the net leading me to a new version, and it registers as up to date completely. Also, Hp does not disclose the manufacturer of the optical drive, so I don't know if it is some sort of third party construct with an Hp logo on it or if it was made at an Hp factory.
I have also tried to uninstall the driver for the optical drive, and it automatically reinstalled, and it still does not recognize blu ray disks. Windows also can not find newer driver information and says that the driver is the latest and best version, which leads me to believe that HP did not release a newer version since late 2009 to begin with. The driver is there, but does not work with the blu ray disks. Also, it bears repeating that the firmware is a meager 1.02, which is dated to 2009. The hardware is all there and accounted for, it simply refuses to acknowledge a blu ray disk, while it does recognize regular dvd and cd disks.
Also, the Driver which is listed as virtually the only one available, by Microsoft, is version 6.1.7601.17514 Dated to 6/21/2006. Yes, 2006 is the year of the most up to date driver for this drive, it's also listed as a cd-rom drive under description.
I've actually spent hours and hours and hours online researching an answer for myself to see if I can't DIY without having to bother anybody, but it seems that there is literally not a single answer that works for my situation out there already before this.
Whatever help can come my way would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

  • Opticarc BD ROM BC-5500S ATA Device Help

I have a laptop with an Opticarc BD ROM bc-5500s ata device.  The problem is the drive fails to recognizes inserted disks with data.  I've contacted HP and they provided the following trouble shooting solutions.
    1.      Power drain.
    2.      Check for the drive in the BIOS.
    3.      Reseat the optical drive.
    4.      Check for the presence of the optical drive in Device Manager.
    5.      Uninstall and reinstall drivers in Device Manager.
    6.      Delete upper and lower filters from the windows registry
The drive recognizes that a disk has been inserted but it recognizes the disk as blank even when there is data on the disk.  (It tries to format the disk as a new disk.)
The trouble shooting solutions provided have not rectified the problem.  The only way to get the drive to recognize a disk is to delete the driver in the Device Manager, Scan for New Hardware and Reinstall; sometimes with a reboot and sometimes not.  I guess this is okay as a work around solution but it is a pain to delete and reinstall the drive every time I want to use it.
If anyone has a more permanent fix, the help would be greatly appreciated as this is extremely frustrating considering it's a relatively new system.

Im also still waiting for a firmware update for this device. My Dv7 wont play any blu-ray since may 09 and I was quite shure that a software update would sort this thing out. In September my laptop's warranty expired and HP says they cant help me anymore.
I notice that there are lots of people out there having the same issues with this hardware. Just for the record, my symptoms are I put in a Blu-ray disc and the drive spins up and down repeatedly like it's trying to read, but nothing ever happens on the screen. The OS never realizes there is a BD in the drive.
It used to play some blu-rays but one day just stopped working. When I go into my computer to view the drives, and have a blu ray disk in (tried this with 4 blu rays) it thinks there is no disk at all in the drive. I've tried updating firmware, updating quickplay, downloading powerdvd 9, checked drivers in device manager and pretty much anything else I can think of. So now Im at the point where I think the drive might be bad but dont really want to fork out the money for a new one if I dont really have to.

  • What is an ATA device

What is an ATA device I really need to know can you help me

It is a term related to the type of disk drive interface. For a MacBook Pro, however, you need a SATA (Serial ATA) notebook drive. You can find them at OWC.

  • Re: does not contain ATA device

The computer does not contain ATA device

I am having problems burning a music cd on my MacBook Pro 5.  While it says "this system does not contain any ATA devices", when I click on "Disc Burning", the following info comes up:
    HL-DT-ST DVDRW  GS23N:
      Firmware Revision:          SB00
      Interconnect:          ATAPI
Burn Support:          Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)

      Write Strategies:          CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media:          Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds
So... can I burn a cd or not?  When I follow the "Help" instructions, there is no "Burn" button.  This is the 1st time I have tried to burn a cd on this machine.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Device status code 10 on my Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH ATA Device With Windows 7

I have been having a problem with the Base System device.  After reading up on it, I installed the Ricoh 5-1 Card Reader Driver.  Now I am getting the Slimtype DVD A DS8AZH ATA Device. Code 10.   How can I fix that?
I have a Pavilion dv6000 and the driver cannot be updated and it worked not 10 minutes before I installed the card reader.

    Hi:
See if running the microsoft fix it tool will help.
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us
If that doesn't work then try the manual fix...
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

This problem is caused by two Windows registry entries that have become corrupted. To fix the problem, you have to use Registry Editor to delete the corrupted Registry entries. To use this method, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator.
    Windows 7 or Windows Vista
Click Start, and then click All Programs.
Click Accessories, and then click Run.
Type regedit, and then click OK.If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
In the right pane, click LowerFilters. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    Restart the computer.

I'm finding this error happening on my 12" PowerBook G4. It started happening just a day or so ago and the machine has been running Leopard since Sunday.
I've run the ADT program and that has found no issues with the machine (ran the long and short test) so far.
The machine was an Erase/Install and a Migration Assistant from a SuperDuper Image to restore apps and accounts. My other machine is the PMac G5 and it has had no issues like this so far (fingers crossed).
I'm taking the PB back to Tiger to see if the issue is OS related or not. If it's HW - I would expect it will show it's head again.
Apple is advertising a sale tomorrow for Black Friday - maybe it's time to upgrade to a MBPro...
My KP is pasted below in case the fact that my PB is suffering the same issue and my KP data helps.

  • Pc freezes after setting on chip ata device to raid mode

Hi, I have an msi x58a-gd65 MB. I built this pc myself, but have a limited knowledge when it comes to figuring out problems. I have windows 7 installed and everything works on a single hdd. I now however want to set up a raid 1 hdd config. the MB supports raid 0/1/5/10.
So I followed the instructions msi provides in a youtube video, but when the pc restarts it freezes. I cant even access the bios so I have to clear the cmos.
The sequence I follow is as follows (I have tried the following with 2 same size hdd's attached and not attached (customer service told me to try setting it to raid with no hdd attached))
    1)enter bios
2)check the boot sequence (hdd's are detected, when attached)
    3)enter on-chip ATA Devices
    4)Set raid mode to raid
    5)save and exit
at this point, the pc restarts and after the msi logo appears, it freezes.
I had two internal pci cards attached, a usb 3.0 and an ide connector.
I have tried setting the MB to raid with the pci cards attached and not attached, same problem exists.
I have the latest version of bios installed, I downloaded from live update.
I was able to enter the raid utility before when I had considered a raid option but I didnt proceed with it. I had an older version of bios at that time.
I would appreciate any help please.

Quote from: xmad on 26-February-13, 01:56:13
    Attached is version M46(Beta)
They apparently had some troubles with the version of the raid rom on the full release and this version has version 8.5.0.1030
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Option 2 and point it directly at the bios file then to your fat32 formatted usb stick.
When the tool is complete, boot to the usb and follow the directions.
Let me know how it goes.
    Thanks
Ok, here's what has happened so far,
I have put the new bios,m46,on a USB. When I enter the bios, I can save the old bios on the USB and I can also boot the new bios,m46,but when I try to update the bios,I can't find the bios file.
When I just boot the m46 bios I do get the raid utility option so that part seems to be sorted, now I just need to find a way to update the bios.
Thanks for your help so far Xmad

  • Error while scanning for Serial-ATA devices.

There was an error while scanning for Serial-ATA devices. I'm not sure how to trouble shoot this. I believe a secondary drive in bay 2 died.

I also have just began to hit this issue.
I have 4 2T enterprise class WD drives in a raid 1+0 (or was it 0+1) config.
    Device Model: WDC WD2002FYPS-01U1B1
One disk (disk0 in bay 2) keeps disappearing. Completely. /dev/disk0 and /dev/rdisk0 vanish.
If I look at "about this mac" / "More Info" / "Serial-ATA" I get the "error while scanning ...".
If I reboot, the offending disc comes back and the raid volumes start rebuilding.
The SMART status is (reported to be) fine.
I use the 'smartmon' tools and look at the extended SMART status and the values of the counters all looks the same as the other drives. I can run an extended offline test, which takes forever to execute. disk 1 and 3 eventually finish with success (it writes this status into a SMART log area on the disc).
Disk 2 and 0 take longer. I image this is because 2 is being read to resilver 0. Currently, I am running with disk0 absent again, and disk 2s test did not complete. It claims it was aborted by the host, so I imagine the one on disk0 will claim the same after I reboot.
My system is under extended AppleCare until 16 Jan 2011, so if I can determine that this is a disc controller error, I can get it fixed. The drives have a 5 year warrantee, and are less than 1yr old, so they are covered. I just need to figure out what the issue is.
I will now reboot and recover disk0 and see if perhaps there is anything recorded in the SMART log.
There is nothing in kernel.log specific to disk0. I include the log extract here for posterity. The "speed" volume is not raid 0+1, just striped, which is why it gets aborted.

  • PLEASE HELP!!! My 'Apple mobile device helper has stopped working'!

Today i bought the new 3G iPhone so i went online to download the new 7.7 iTunes software. Now when i go into my iTunes a Windows pop up appears telling me that my 'Apple mobile device helper has stopped working' and that it is diagnosing the problem. The thing is that it doesn't diagnose the problem, the same box just keeps popping up over and over again.
I am not very computer literate and have tried everything that i can think of but nothing has worked.
Please can someone help because i'm absolutely dying to use my new iPhone; i queued up from 6 am to get my hands on it! :0(

I'm just a simple user. I don't know how to fix it any more than any of the other posters with this problem. I've looked around in control panel, done some poking and prodding with services and processes, and can't find a reasonable way to stop the messages without completely hosing up iTunes. I know the messages are annoying as ****, and nobody likes the idea, but sitting around and doing nothing is sometimes a whole lot better then doing something that makes it worse. See if you can find a document from Apple that tells you how to go back to the previous version of iTunes. I've seen that course of action mentioned several times for previous releases of iTunes upgrades, so the instructions for it must exist in another forum.
I just think, from the number of posts, that Apple is going to have to get a fix out pretty quickly, because this error pretty much shuts down their products on the Windows platform. They can't afford to let it go on for very long.

  • "Mobile Device helper has stopped working" after installing most recent

OK. Like a thousand other threads that have been posted over the past week or so on this topic and having tried most of the suggestions, I find myself at a loss.
After most recent update (which I installed on Monday) from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 all **** has broken loose between my *iPhone, iTunes & Outlook*. This all came to light just hours after the install. . . . I noticed that my phone wasn't syncing - at all, it just "hung" there then I went into my contacts in Outlook - gone. . . UGH, EEK, OK, so they're still on my iPhone BUT I can't get to them in Outlook. After loosing most of yesterday and all of today I am at the mercy of someone who might know how to resolve this issue.
    _*Steps I have taken :*_
I have un-installed and reinstalled iTunes 5 times, no luck, I've restarted, yada yada yada. I've hidden my Norton's Internet Security, allowed iTunes, etc. *Still no luck*. Take in mind, all was great after months of perfect syncing, etc. no problems whatsoever . . .
*The two messages that I continue to get when I open iTunes and connect my phone:*
    1) "Mobile Device helper has stopped working"
    2) " Unable to load data-class information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later".
The most recent error message under "Problems Reports & Solutions" on my start menu read:
    Product: MobileDeviceHelper
    Problem: Stopped working
    Date: 4/7/2010 3:42 PM
    Status: Not Reported
    Problem signature
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe
    Application Version: 16.691.14.1
    Application Timestamp: 4ba3b8fe
    Fault Module Name: CoreFoundation.dll
    Fault Module Version: 1.550.17.21
    Fault Module Timestamp: 4b8cb530

    Exception Offset: 0000db6b
    OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033
This is the same message that I have received the last 10 times under Mobile Device Helper.
*Please PLEASE please*, does anyone know how to resolve this problem?
*Thank you SO MUCH for any insight.*
    -signed, UGH!!!

    Hi,
I have had the same experience... uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and all Apple components only to now be in a position where I can't sync my iphone at all (before I started trying various solutions I could still sync music... now nothing!) and I continually get the messages "mobile device helper has stopped working" and then "iTunes was unable to load dataclass information from Sync Services. Reconnect or try again later".
I even tried reinstalling iTunes 9.0 but somehow I don't have the old library saved - means I lose all the ratings, playlists etc.
    Really frustrating and disappointing.

  • Mobile Device Helper has stopped working

I have just purchased an iPhone 3Gs, I have the lastest version of iTunes (9.1) and am operating on 32-bit Windows Vista using an Acer laptop.
First, the iPhone was not recognised - so re-installed iTunes, downloaded Service Pack 2 for vista, reinstalled iTunes. Did't work. Finally found a forum that lead me to delete a problem file for Acer laptops (can't remember its name now) but then my iPhone was now recognised!
Secondly, tried to sync my windows contacts (all my old contacta list from old phone) then had syncing problems..through more forums that error message stopped but now I have a new one that I can't get past...
'Mobile Device Helped has stopped working' comes up repeatedly and will not let me to anything with iTunes as it freezes until I end task in Task manager.
I have looked into other forums that talk of deleting the Apple Mobile Device, but it doesn't seem to me to be the rigt decision as the majority of people have just had to reinstall iTunes as it wont recognise the phone without the file.
It seems that the new iTunes doesn't like Windows Vista.
Please can anyone help me get past this point before I lose the will to live!! (it's been over 5hours now!!!!)
    Thanks

    Sort of the same issue.
    Windows Vista 64bit Home Premium.
I just launched iTunes for the first time after installing 9.1. When I connected my iPhone, iTunes told me that I needed to install a newer version of Apple Mobile Device, which entailed removing/reinstalling iTunes and AMD. I remember there being an order to which applications should be removed, so I did that, but got stuck at AMD. I wasn't able to remove it. There was no error message, it just automatically rolled back the uninstall process and quit. I did some research and saw someone recommend using the Windows Install Cleanup Utility. I used that to remove AMD, and it worked. Next on the list was Apple Application Support (?), which also could not be uninstalled by normal means. So I used WIC on that as well. iTunes, Bonjour, Quicktime, and Apple Software update I was able to remove via the Control Panel. I rebooted, reinstalled iTunes, and when it began the install process for AMD I got this message:
    "Could not open key:
Unknown\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\3F55235DF871F046A8F862841205 6EF. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."
Got the same message for Apple Application Support. As a result, neither was installed.
Prior to doing any of this, I had disabled AMD in Services, which didn't help. I have since re-enabled it, and it is still running in Services, although it does not show up in the list on programs to uninstall.
After all this, I read in another forum that simply doing a Repair on AMD would solve the problem, but since I am unable to reinstall it, I cannot test it out.

  • When I conect any ipod ,the itunes show an error msg-The syncServer found a problem and must be closed. After that another-Mobile device helper find a problem and must be closed -and this repeat more 2 times each are  related with corefoundation.dll.

Six error msg about apple aplications that must be closed just when I connect my ipod to computers USB.SyncServer aplication and Mobile device helper is closed. The error relat.show :
    AppName: syncserver.exe     AppVer: 17.641.14.26     ModName: corefoundation.dll
    ModVer: 1.550.54.0     Offset: 00043d08
These happens in both kind of messages that was showing three times each. After this ,Itunes can sinc music videos, photos, but I canot upgrade my ipod!
Detail:copy photo files from ipod to computer works normal.I use panda antivirus but without it in the computer, the problem persists.Yesterday I get the last ITunes, but the problem persists.I unistall anything about apple ,install the new Itunes and the problem remains.
And this problem occurs only after I connect ANY ipod to the computer, open Itunes for hear music, for example, still works OK.

I have been battling against the same issue for over 2 weeks now. After tracing what was happening on the machine to find that the crashes we're happening slightly after Apple's program we're identifying the Time Zone of the computer, I had the idea of checking the date/time properties of my Windows XP machine.
I unchecked the box to update the time from a time server (Internet time) and it's seem that this was what was causing itunes and its descendant to crash.
Now it seems it turned back to normal operation.
Please let me know if this fixes it for you as well.
