Hp Bios Update loop after successful(?) bios update

So i tried to update bios through windows first, system hung and then my laptop wouldnt turn on with the battery on. I removed the battery, entered windows and tried again to update bios, but this time i got a fail message. I entered the bios update utility pressing win+B, flashed the latest bios using a usb stick, all seemed well until i tried to reboot. Caps lock blinks twice, bios updates fine from usb flash and same goes over again and again. "Hidden" bios on the hdd's efi partition seems damaged cause bios doesnt update from there, only through usb.  Any ideas?

, Hello and thank for posting on the HP support forums.  Generally unless you are having a huge issue with your hardware you do not want to play with your BIOS unless you have a tun of experience on dealing with a big OOPS!   The good news is there are a few articles on the HP support sight here to help you out. HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS Consumer Notebooks and Windows 8 - Overview of BIOS updates Not every system is the same so before you try and update anything as important as a BIOS call before you dig or at least check out the documentation so that you do not end up with a massive crash that you can not recover from outside of replacing the motherboard. I hope the links help and if not here is the link so you can contact HP Support for repair options. Contact HP Support Please let me know how things go. Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

  • Z77 MPower loop after flash BIOS

    Hi to all people,
after flashing BIOS from 17.7B4 to 17.8 (from uSB drive in "BIOS Utilities")  the video is black and system is on restart loop but nothing else.
Try to unplug power system, reset  button, gotobios button, clear CMOS with jumper (in power off) but nothing to do: only continuos auto-loop on/off between 20 seconds circa !
    Please help, very frustrating situation.
p.s.: system is in signature, is working great... prior to.

    Hello
manual of Z77 report "do not multi-BIOS  switch when the system is powered on".
I have to go anymore ?
    Ty,
    Adry aka Caronte
ignore that in this situation as its the only way to recover the Failed BIOS without paying a shop to SPI flash the failed chip! (switching BIOS while its on will only cause errors on the chip you switched to but as yours is bricked it cant make it any worse) this will allow you to tell that BIOS CHIP upon restart to Flash by imprinting a copy of the open M-FLASH utility to the chip that can then allow the chip to be re flashed to a functional recovered state.
so just disregard that warning in the manual as the described way we have suggested has a good track record of successfully recovering a bricked chip on M-Power and other boards outfitted with the Multi BIOS hardware switch so just give it a go and all should be good.
the live switching to recover BIOS has been successfully done many times and the info in the manual doesn't have any weight regarding Bricked Chips only ones that are functioning correctly...

  • Bionic cannot make or receive calls after successful ICS update

Can't find this anywhere else.  Have been using the phone for several days after successfully upgrading to ICS.  I can text and email.  All data services appear ok.  Just phone function.  When tryng to call, it attempts to dial out and then terminates.  Any help?

    Hi PKillian,
I know how important it is to have a working phone. Let's get this issue resolved. Let's first begin by putting you phone in Safe Mode. Follow these steps http://bit.ly/mX5mec. After successfully putting your phone in Safe Mode, try making a call and receiving a call on your Bionic. If you do not experience the same issues while your phone is in Safe Mode, we would then need to proceed and complete a Master Reset. Make sure you back up your personal data before completing the reset. Here are the steps to complete the Master Reset http://bit.ly/nExWmP. Let us know how this works out for you.

  • BIOS lock-ups after upgrading bios to v1.8

    Hi,
I have a K8N-Neo FSR motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 2x 512 MB DDR Memory, ATI Radeon 9600XT w/256 mb ram video card.
It worked fine for about half a year now, but now I decided to upgrade my harddisk from a 160GB IDE hard drive to a 300GB S-ATA hard drive.
Copying went fine, but I was not able to boot from the new hard drive, so I decided to upgrade the motherboard bios, hoping that that would solve the problem.
After updating using live update, which went successful, the pc rebooted.
I was able to go in the bios and check the hard disk settings, and everything seemed to be configured properly, so I did exit&save.
After rebooting again, the bios got stuck at the boot logo though, and no response to keys or anything else.
I tried clearing the bios, both with the jumper, and by removing the battery, but the problem remains.
After lots of restarts, sometimes I get a little further where it shows the energy star logo.
Sometimes I am able to get to the bios setup first screen (after which it locks up and I can't do anything)
Other times I just see the first lines, and yet another time I see 'Memory testing'
I can't boot from a floppy either, so I can't downgrade or reinstall the bios either.
On the back panel, the right-bottom led lights up green mostly when it is locked up.
Sometimes the left top led lights up red and the bottom left led lights up green.
Anyone has an idea on how to solve this?
    Thanks!

I had same issue for me the fix was to disconnect one of the SATA drives.   I am now having all kinds of issue, machine won't boot without 1 sata drive disconnected.   Was running fine last night on one drive, now machine is slow as christmas.   Takes 15 minutes to load a web page, start menu hangs when coming up for 3-4 minutes.   I was fine until the 1.8 BIOS upgrade.   I wondered if my motherboard went bad, but then I see three or four others having similar issues.   Can the motherboards be returned to MSI for a replacement?  While running version 1.8 I had the same issue seemed to boot OK on 1 stick of ram, but not both.   Once I flashed back to 1.7 now I can only run 1 harddrive.   What the !@#$@!# is going on.

  • T60p - Black screen after success bios update

    Hello!
    I have a big problem:
Today I update my T60p bios to the latest, downloaded from the support site, via the windows based factory utility as usual (I do it more than 4 times before). Everything seems OK, but after restart the notebbok won't start. The sysfan is spinning, the leds are lights, but the screen is black, and no reaction for any keypress.
How can I fix this problem?
    Thank's for help,
    Peter

    Hello,
first you could take out your battery and press powerbutton 10 times.
Insert your battery again and try to start.
If your cd drive is running, I would suggest to download bios as an iso-file and burn it to disk.
Then try to boot with this cd and flash bios again.
If these methods don´t work, than you´ll have to send it to service.
    Good luck!

  • No signal after successful Bios and ME flash

    Hi everyone,
I just build my first PC in about ten years deciding to get back into PC gaming but have encountered some problems.
    My Build:
    MSI Z87i-AC
    Intel G3258
    2 x 4GB HyperX Fury
    Antec 550vp PSU
    MSI Power OC gtx 670
After I completed the build all seemed well. It fired up no problem and before long i was installing the OS. However during OS installation after the computer restarted i had no signal to the monitor. I left it like that for about 20 mins then just turned it off. When I booted it back up I had no problems and Windows had installed successfully. Anyway, to cut it short. The computer worked absolutely fine If i shut it down or turned it off but if I manually reset or reset after installing programs etc there was no signal.
I found someone online with the exact same problem so I thought thats would be it sorted. Their solution, (from MSI Support was to update the BIOS and ME to support the Haswell refresh. After this the user's problem was resolved. So I followed the MSI instructions on how to update the BIOS and ME via Mflash and went ahead and done it. It didn't take long and the computer showed a message that the BIOS update was successful and would restart in five seconds.
After the restart it was straight to a no signal screen and no matter what I've tried this is how it remains. The Usb ports don't supply power to my keyboard or usb sticks either. I'm completely stuck!
I've tried switching the ram, using only one stick, a different PSU, with or without gpu etc but still just no signal.
Like I said everything worked great (apart from not being able to restart) before the BIOS update. I was on BIOS 1.5 originally and updated to 1.9.
    Thanks for reading!

Ok so I've tried clearing the cmos how you suggested and still nothing... I also tried various other methods from the forums but still just no signal.
I'm completely stuck now as the only probably thing seems like the motherboard is dead  I don't think any other hardware could be the problem as it worked fine until the bios flash.
Should i just RMA the board and go for something else?

  • IPod Touch 4th gen stuck in reboot loop after attempting to update to iOS 6.1.5

    Hi.
I have my iPod Touch 4th Gen (iOS 6.1.3)....I plugged it into my computer, it said there was a software update available. I click ok, it goes through all of it's stuff, gets up to Verifying update with Apple, and then I get an error message.
"The iPod 'iPod Touch 4' could not be restored. It is not eligible for the requested build."
I know this has something to do with Apple not signing the package, but I got iOS 7.0.4 on my iPhone today and it worked fine.
Thanks for all of your guys' help,
    -jwukitsch

Try what you have not yet tried:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Is there a hardware problem?
    thank you

Before you upgrade, make sure all your software supports it based on post July, 25, 2012 reports on

Reports prior to this date are unreliable, as they are likely with beta releases of Mountain Lion to developers. Other pitfalls to realize include:

  • PRS-T1 stuck in infinite reboot loop after failed firmware update

    Hi,
I tried to update the firmware, but failed when updating to version 1.0.07.05070. Tried to 2 times. The first time it failed I simply tried again. The second time, it took a lot longer to reach the failed to update message, but it did cause the ereader to reboot.
Now, it's stuck in an infinite reboot loop on the "Opening book" page. The progress bar on that page stays completely empty, lasts for about 30 seconds, and reboots again. This will go one until the battery is dead or indefinitely if plugged in.
I have tried pressing the Home + Menu buttons, but they seem to have no effect.
Please advise if there is anything I can try to revive it?
    Thanks in advanced.
    David
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Kiroken,
Here is what I have observed:
    - After a hard boot (reset + power button during 3+ seconds), if I don't do anything, it will reboot every ~30seconds.
    - If I press and hold the Home and Menu buttons, no effect. The same as if I didn't press anything.
    - If I press the Forward + Back buttons (2 & 4), it does not reboot after 30 seconds. Instead, the orange light on the power button blink every ~2-3 seconds.
    - Any other key combinations that I have tried have no effect.
I have tried with and without several rescue sdcard. No difference. No improvement. In every case, the computer never sees the reader. If plugged into the power outlet, it seems like the battery charges alright. It does not appear to charge if plugged into USB port.
That's all I know. If I can't fix it, I might be forced to turn it into a coaster or maybe a cutting board for the kitchen.

  • Lenovo G780 stuck in Automatic Repair Loop after Windows 8 update

My recent Windows 8 update stuck my computer into an infinite automatic repair loop which results in a blue screen amd the process repeats itself. I tried the OneKey restore feature and the system recovery feature just hangs then it goes back to the same loop issue with rebooting. I called Lenovo for recovery discs since I don't have any any but my concern is does it matter if I mentioned whether I had a 32 or 64 bit OS? I told her to make sure it was for a Windows 8 system amd she just said it works for the G780 models. I'm just hoping these discs work.for a 64 bit system

It should work. Support cannot send you recovery disks if you didn't provide them your serial number. They can check the correct pre-installed OS from your serial number so I'm sure they're sending out the correct disks.

  • Setup assistant in loop after leopard software update

Installed leopard as an upgrade to Tiger on my new Imac when it was launched. I had no problems and everything has been runningfine. Last night I got informed of software updates available, I remeber seeing that one of the updates fwas for the system. I said ok. After a while I got a dialog saying updates required restart of system, hold power key until system turned off. I did so. The system rebooted into the setup assistant. I filled in the details required in each of the steps until I then hit done on the last page. At this point it just goes back to the beginning of the setup assistant again.I've tried this several times, inlcuidng turning off and starting the system again. I've tried holding down the C key at time of boot with the leopard disk in the drive to bbot from dvd and I still get the same symptons.
Very bad experience. Anyone else seen this and got a workaround. Can;t get through to apple support.
    Cheers
    Iain

I just ran into this nasty glitch on a mac mini running Leopard which I had just attempted to update using Software Update. The only package requiring a reboot was iTunes 7.6 which did FAIL to update along with one other package (I forget which). I told the system to reboot and gave authority to 'kick' others currently logged in. It complied and the screen went black, however there was no reboot sound....hmm...I held down the power button and still nothing. Then held it still longer and finally it rebooted...I logged in then immediately saw Setup Assistant. I was like "hmm...odd...this doesn't look good." After complying I clicked "Done" and then it logged me out (odd?), and then I logged in again only to find Setup Assistant greet me! So here I am..looking for answers on how to fix. Luckily I have SSH enabled and can login to the machine via SSH. Looking for a possible solution to run OS X Updater from command and possibly fix what's broken.

  • Startup Loop after Lion software update on MacBook

I installed the software update for Lion last night...and now I am in a startup loop nightmare...white screen with apple logo for about 5 minutes or so...then the computer shuts itself off ...then restarts only to do it again & again...when I held the command + s keys down at startup I get the error message "error reading driver 'System\Library\Extensions\AppleACPIPlatform.kext\Contents\MacOS\'.-
Any advice on what to do next? Thanks in advance

If I understand you right, I should backup my Macbook Pro if it had not been backed up for a while, before downloading the Update?
Yes. For one reason, it will flush all "local snapshots" to the backup device. It's a good idea to connect the backup drive periodically, otherwise it will eventually stop creating those "local snapshots". That period of time is up to you, and is a function of the amount of work created between backups. Once a week generally works for me, but I'd definitely back up prior to any OS X update.
About a minute is about right, from a fully shut down condition to the login screen. Macs are designed to be ignored when you're not using them. Shut the lid or just walk away from it; there really is no benefit to shutting down completely unless you don't intend to use your Mac for several days. Waking up from sleep is almost instantaneous by comparison.
Thank you very much for your help. If I click the "this helped me" button, will I still later be able to choose "this solved my question" if my problem was solved?
Yes. The intent (I believe) is to accentuate answers most likely to benefit those seeking answers to similar questions. It's not a perfect system but it's the only one this site offers.

  • Macbook air is stuck in a reboot loop after running Software Update.  It looks like a firmware update is failing.

I have a first generation Macbook Air running Lion, and just ran software update to get the latest version of iTunes.  It appears I may have gotten a firmware update mixed in the bunch, and now it keeps trying to run the update at boot, failing, and shutting down.
I can start the restore partition, and the system appears to function, but I cannot figure out how to abort this failing update so I can use my system, and determine which update is breaking it and why. I've tried resetting the firmware, but that didn't change anything.
There's nothing, not even a the CD drive plugged into the Air, so it's not a peripheral problem.
I could restore from backups, but that seems like a very brute force way to get rid of a firmware update loader.
Does anyone know how to disable these little beasts?

Restart the Air while holding down the shift key, this is safe mode. Once in to the login screen, login then hold the shift key again. It will disable login items, which can be the cause of startup problems. Remove all your login items from your user accout and try a restart (Note the login items if you need to re-add essential ones later). If it all works well, then keep an eye on third party startup items, they will cause you grief!
