HP BIOS update, no sound now?

I have an HP Pavilion dm4 that I bought last summer, but I'm not sure which model #s specifically comes after that.
I just updated my HP BIOS and now I am not getting any sound from the speakers or through headphones, this has happened before though I admittedly cannot remember what the solution was. Please help!
Also I am kind of computer-challeneged when it comes to things like this, if you could include step by step instructions in your solutions that would be great! please & thanks!

  • Tecra A9 and BIOS update - No sound with Win 7

    Hi,
I installed Windows 7 of an Tecra A9 Laptop and everything works fine except the sound. The sound card driver for Windows 7 is already installed. The Speakers as well as the microphone is detected. While playing music, under sound devices the green bar beneath the speakers raises up and down but I can not hear anything.
I read that the BIOS update may help but it do not work under Windows 7 or with a Windows XP Live CD or in Windows XP Mode for Windows 7.
I do not want to reinstall Windows XP.
Do anybody know how to get the sound working correctly?

Even with headphones, I had no sound.
I already checked all sound settings serveral times, nothing is muted and all is as loud as possible.
I can't install the BIOS update because I installed WIndows 7 before. Thus, I don't know if it would work. However, it is the only solution I found and maybe it works.
Is there no other way to update the BIOS? I mean I can start the BIOS update(P0054v210.exe), the extraction of the files works but after that I got the message: 'The Computer is not supported'. I noticed that there are Laptop models for which other procedures for updating the BIOS exists. Could anyone of them also work for Tecra A9?
Has anybody an idea what the cause of the sound problem could be?
    Thanks.

  • (P67A-GD65) BIOS update worked but now ACPI dead?

Hi guys, anyone seen this before?
    P67A-GD65(b3) + i5 2500K + G Skill Ripjaws 1600 + MSI GTX560  (all about 1 week old)
Did a successful BIOS update to 1.B (which is what the AU msi site listed as latest BIOS, I now realise that 1.C is out).
Everything seems fine in BIOS but Win7 hangs at "Starting Windows" (regular boot, repair boot, even the install setup boot from disc).
Booting from a Linux cd it hangs at the ACPI part.
System was perfectly stable prior to this (but my mouse didn't work in BIOS and XMP timings didn't seem to be applied, hence the update).
BIOS update was done using forum USB tool. CMOS has definitely been cleared.
Any suggestions? I am probably going to try updating to BIOS 1.C but since I don't have a working PC now (posting this from our iMac) I will have to go use a friend's PC to run the USB tool and create the BIOS update stick.
    Thanks

For a short term test, raise DRAM V. manually to the maximum 1.65v's, set CPU V-Droop to low, phase control from SVID to APS.
I did try a raised DRAM V at one point (to no success), but didn't touch phase control so could try that too.
I have found one single way to make it load windows - by flashing 1.C directly from the "M-flash" page of the BIOS itself
The on the reset directly following the update it will then boot windows correctly.
This first happened this afternoon and I rejoiced and then shutdown to reconnect all the devices that had been unplugged during diagnosis ... then when I went to boot up again ... hung ... again
Tried to get all scientific by trying voltage settings and unplugging case fans, etc ... nothing work so I gave up, did something (theoretically) foolish  and tried the M-flash page in BIOS again. Re-flashed v1.C again and once again it booted into windows
Starting to think along the lines of RMA here  ... this can't be normal.

  • Bios update hung up, now system does not boot

    Hi,
I just got my new system 2 says ago and installed a win 8.1 on it. My pc froze at random so I checked the website and saw that there was a bios update saying windows 8 users should update.
I downloaded the file, ran it and it hung up in the middle, I left it for about an hour and it was still stuck there...I reset the pc and boom, it wont boot up. It just gives 2 consecutive beeps every 5-10 seconds or so. Is my mobo dead?  Please help! I JUST bought this case...
    EDIT:
Sorry I was so upset that I even forgot to mention my mobo model:
    Mobo: 990FXA-GD80
    Bios version: I don't know!
    CPU: AMD 8350
    PSU: 630 thermaltake
    HDD: 1 TB seagate
    RAM: 8 gb kingstone
    VGA: Sapphire 280X

msi have been told about Live update BIOS Updates being bad many times but they keep it in  !
    you have 3 options!
1: have a shop that can do SPI BIOS flashes to direct flash the BIOS chip to revive the board!
2: RMA it to MSI for them to re-flash the board!
    3: get a new board!
1+2 or the cheapest routes to take! 3 is more expensive!
(DO NOT USE LIVE UPDATE its dangerous as it does BIOS flashes in a uncontrolled environment (Windows) as there is other data and processes active) <-- if you do use live update just use the download function only and perform BIOS flashes in M-Flash, DOS or using the forum flasher as there much safer!

  • Ios8 Updates no sound now!

After ios8 update none of the sounds on my 5s work, calls come in no vibration now ring, same for text messages and all other notifications. Please advise?

    Howdy Karyn,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I can imagine that would be frustrating, to upgrade your iPhone 5s to iOS 8 and then your device has a no sound issue. The article linked below has a list of resolutions for issues like the one that you’ve described.
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker
    I hope this helps,

  • MIIX 2 8 - Miracast Problems since 1.07 Bios update

My tablet has been mainly used for presentations since I first got it and connected to my Netgear PTV3000.
Worked perfectly except for the lack of clone mode, extended is ok but clone would be perfect.
My other use is for Skype calls which it handled very well until the camera stopped working following a windows update. Rolled the camera driver back which fixed it the first time however this week it failed again. Rollback of driver was greyed out so I tried the Bios update from 1.03 to 1.07.
Bios updated and camera now works again but Miracast is dead. If I try to connect to PTV3000 it can see it but just dosen't connect. I upgraded the PTV3000 firmware via the Miix to the latest V2.4.53 but no difference (wifi direct still works).
Reset the Miix to factory, tried every driver option I can find but no joy, well not quite true, I briefly had the Miix connnecting to the PTV3000 with no picture but it did have sound.
If anyone has any ideas I will try anything. If anyone has an older Bios 1.03 or 1.05 I would love to try, I can live without the camera however Miracast is a must.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Miracast working in both clone and extended.
At work I use an older LCD Projector via a powered HDMI to VGA adaptor with audio, screen resolution drops while projecting in clone mode and I loose the camera as it's a metro app, however other than that clone or extended works perfectly.
Working on getting our old projectors updated to Epson EB-1985WU which have MiraCast built-in and being full HD even the camera will work in clone mode.
Video driver I used from here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?ProdId=3712&lang=eng
It seems theres been a couple of updates since I did this, the driver I used was win32_153322.zip, download options are win32_153329.zip or win32_153330.zip niether of which I have tried but I am fairly sure will work.
It should work ok with just the driver change, mine is a full clean windows install which I did after the bios update to try and fix miracast, but I am 99% sure  it wasn't necessary.
    Hope that helps

  • Re: Satellite Pro A300-1EA - Difficulties in BIOS update

    Hi there,
I attempted to update BIOS on my new Satellite Pro A300-1EA (PSAG9E-001001EN) as prompted by Tempro, from version 1.50 to 1.90. The system froze completely during BIOS flash, after waiting for 1 hr, I decided to turn off the power and pray for the best. Thank heavens, everything still works, but the BIOS is still v1.50, not been updated. I have now read so many posts on the forum regarding blotched BIOS update and am now very cautious regarding undergoing any BIOS updates at all.
My questions are: Are there any issues regarding this particular update and/or with the InsydeFlash facility? Are BIOS updates all generally so tricky that they best be avoided? What are the alternative ways to update BIOS, hopefully less dangerous? Also, could there be any potential damage to my laptop related to this miscarried BIOS flash that I should be aware of?
    Many thanks indeed!
    Monsteress

You can feel you lucky, buddy! :)
Im surprised that your ROM module is not damaged or something else. In most cases this happens if the computer freezes during the update.
Let me give you a word of advice. You should only update the BIOS if its necessary or you have problems/issues with the notebook. You can ignore the messages from TEMPRO if your system runs properly. For example I never update the BIOS if my notebook runs perfect Never touch a running system ;)
Otherwise follow the tips posted by Akuma Before you update the BIOS close all running programs, disable AntiVirus and Firewall and connect the AC/DC adaptor.
On my Satellite U400 I have updated the BIOS without problems.

  • L440 (20AS) bios update issue about last one from february 20th 2014 (v1.58)

I need to update bios version from 1.10 to 1.58 today, and i download last bios cd iso version labelled j4uj53wd.iso, i burned cd with imgburn and from windows 7 burning software, and cd is booting from bios menu but i saw a message just before Main menu bios... unable to control A20 line xms driver is not installed!.... after this message i get Main menu bios with chooses 1..2..3...  and i choose 2 update system program, press Y, red windows error message appear, the system program was not found on the cd.  Insert the correct cd in the drive.  I tried to different cd burned with two different burning software and the same error coming back all the time.  I really need to update bios because i have some LAN PXE boot failed and other littles bugs to fix.  I think that no rom file inside the update file iso, and no XMS driver (a20 control line!) present causing error update file was not found on cd.
Thanks to help me and bring a fast correction.

    Go to Solution.

    Things to try:
    1.  go into BIOS setup
    2.  go the Security menu -> Secure Boot and make sure secure boot is disabled
    3.  go to the Startup menu, change the option for "UEFI/Legacy Boot" to "Legacy only"
    4.  press f10 to save and exit
Does the BIOS update CD work now?
If not, try changing step 3 to set "UEFI only" and retry

    View Solution.

A member "redshore" has posted a possible solution for the BIOS update problem to 80.20, a few members have tried it and apparently it has worked.
I must remind you to be very careful performing the solution I will show below.  If you are not comfortable doing it then don't.  Any error may brick your system.
HP has no official position on this solution and you do so at your own risk.  Should you decide to go ahead with it, please report back the results.
    Here is the poissible solution:
    1. Download the latest BIOS version"sp70148.exe" and save it to your Desktop.
2.Now close your browser and any open windows. There's no need, at least in my case to shut down your anti-virus, people that say that typically don't know what their talking about not to mention you leave your PC open to nasties.
    3. Right Click on the downloaded file and selcet "Run as Administrator". Allow it to run and Do Not touch the mouse or keyboard while it installs. You will see a DOS BOX or a black window appear and a cursor, let it continue. Your PC will Re-boot on its own when it's done, LET IT.
After your PC is back to the Desktop, click on "My Computer" then click on "Windows (c:
You should now see a folder called "SWSETUP"
The date on the folder should say todays date or the date you ran "sp70148.exe"
    4. Click on the folder and go to the folder "sp69840" You should see a few files inside called "Flash.bat" "FWUpdhcl.exe" "GUI-8020.exe" "MEM_8020.  "MEM_8020.BIN" & likely one more.
5.Make sure you see these files before doing anything else, DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OF THEM! Just make sure you see them.
If you see these files, good. If not post and I'll try to help.
Now close the windows and go back to your Desktop.
    6. Restart you PC. Before it Boots to the Desktop quickly press ESC on your keyboard.
    7. You should now be in the "Startup Menu"
    8.Select "F2 System Diagnostics"
    9. Now you should see "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI" screen. Mine says "Version 5.7.0.0"
    10. Use your mouse and Select "Firmware Management" You will see "BIOS Management" at the top of your screen.
    11. Click on "BIOS Update"
You should now  see at the top of your screen "BIOS Management"
Mine says in red "The selected BIOS image was not available, you may select an alternative image file, or cancel the update."
In black below that it says "This system's BIOS ID is (your BIOS version will be two digits a decimal point and two more digits. Mine was 20.16 before I update to 80.20)
"A signature file must also be available in the same directory"
    12. Click on "Select BIOS Image To Apply"
This opens up "Select File System"
You should see several options where the files I spoke of earlier can be found. Remember "Windows (C SWSETUP"
    13. Choose "Windows-Sata (0x0, 0xFFFF,0X0) Drive Partion 4"
    14. At the top of the screen it should say "File Navigator" now select with your mouse "SWSETUP"
    15. Now select "sp70148"
***16. YOUR BIOS SHOULD UPDATE TO VERSION 80.20 NOW....ALLOW YOUR BIOS TO FLASH, DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ON YOUR PC AND DO NOT TURN IT OFF, JUST BE PATIENT AN LET IT FLASH, IT TAKES SOME TIME.***
    17. Once the Flash is finished, your PC should boot to the Desktop on its own and you now have the latest BIOS that fixes the security issues.
Again, if you're not comfortable and this post seems complicated to you, skip it until HP finds a quicker fix.
Please mark my post as SOLVED if it has resolved your problem. It helps others with similar situations.

  • After bios update sound is going to headset. can't get sound to speakers - Pavillion dv7-6c67nr

windows-7 64 bit. Installed BIOS update from HP Support Assistant, No sound from laptop speakers. Clinked on speaker icon, showed sound going to the headphones and not speakers. No luck changing. No headphones ever

    Hi kcperry,
I had similar issues and suggest that you might try going directly to the HP driver web site for your system at  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=5218614&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us , enter in your operating system and then reinstall the BIOS.
I, too, lost sound to my speakers and Beats Audio didn't work when HP did automatic updates to my BIOS and then my audio driver.  Turns out that the audio driver that HP downloaded was for my system but not my operating system (I have Windows7, but got the driver for Windows8) - I also suspect that the BIOS update was not for my os, because when I installed the correct version of the audio driver for my system/os, my system asked if it installed correctly due to an os conflict, also my system also became very slow.
--> In the end, I installed the BIOS update and then reinstalled the audio driver making certain the downloads were for my system and my operating system  --  and now all is working fine !!!
Another thing I noticed is when I use HP’s ‘scan for solutions and updates’ on their website, it says I need to update my video driver.  The video driver it lists is the one for Window8, not windows7!!
Hope this works for you.  If it does, please post that it worked for you and click on the solved button for others who are looking for solutions.  I suspect there are a lot of users out there that have or will be experiencing the same issue.

  • Msi 970a-g46 - BIOS update got interrupted, screen is now perma black

So recently my computer has started having issues where it will just freeze out of nowhere leaving me only with sound, no mouse, no keyboard, i believe a still image on the screen (cant tell due to the mouse/keyboard).
Either way, so i figured i would go about and update all of my drivers, while updating my BIOS drivers, my computer had one of these freezes and i was careless enough to hit the restart button...
So now whenever i try and boot my computer, i am left with a pure black screen, and nothing else...
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Piers.

    Try a battery removed CMOS clear and reset. The freeze may have been RAM, PSU, VGA related. A BIOS update is firmware, etc., no drivers involved. A list of system components may be of help in the troubleshooting process;

So after doing that, i plugged it back in, and got a long squealing beep tone so i immediately unplugged it... im also a huge retard, and powered it on while i had the jumpers on clear data... i feel retarded and i hope i didn't just break my motherboard even more... D':

  • NEW BIOS UPDATE - Fixed buzzing sound from GPU?

It says it fixed the buzzing sound near speaker and battery when on battery power. Could this be the issue that people with the Intel Proccesor have when on battery power it makes a noise?

    Hello,
I don´t exactly know, if the bios update disable C4 states, to prevent buzzing.
But if so, you´ll probably loose battery life, cause the cpu would´t get into lower power states.
May be the fan (link in german) will be running more often, to keep the Nvidia chip cooler, also.
I think if your TP suffers from whine, then give it a try or wait, till someone could tell us here
    about his experience.
