HP C4780 feeds paper crooked and creased

I've had this printer for about 10 months, and it's starting to feed paper crooked every now and again.  When it feeds crooked, the page gets totally creased and messed up, and sometimes jams in the printer.  Sounds like a similar problem to what was experienced here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-printing-questions/My-Hp-photosmart-D110-feeds-paper-crooked/td-p...
Is there any solution for this?  I'm using 20 lb. paper - within the specification of the printer.
thanks.

Check the back door. The door you remove to clear paper jams. Make sure it's on properly. THAT cleared my paper feed problem!

  • Photosmart D110 printer feeds paper crookedly, tried troubleshooting, no help.

From the moment I got this printer, it has been printing my documents crookedly. I've done everythign I could to align the paper, not push it in too far, and even gone through the entire FAQ section on paper. I've done printer alignments multiple times to no avail. Its very frustrating, help please. Should I return it to the manufacturer for a new one instead?

Hello here you can get your user manual on the following Web site

  • Feeds paper, sometimes repeatedly, in print mode and doesn't print. Copies fine.

My HP 7410, running XP Pro with constant updates, doesn't print but copies fine. It feeds paper, sometimes many sheets, but just pauses briefly with paper in position to print and doesn't print. I thought the problem might depend on the weight of the paper, but it doesn't matter. If the paper is too lightweight, jams a lot because it picks up several sheets at time.

    Two things:
Make sure both front and back rollers are clean.
Check the panel that holds the back rollers - make sure it is inserted well. You may remove it, clean it (blow dust) then re-insert.

  • HP Officejet 6500A Plus does not feed paper

HP Officejet 6500A Plus, Mac OS X 10.6.8,The printer does not feed paper.  Then gives the message that 'printer is out of paper'.  I have done all of the reset and cleaning procedures recommended on the HP web site.  That does not correct the problem when I do 'Print Status Report'.Observing through the front with a flashlight, the paper feed mechanism comes down on top of the paper stack, but the rollers do not feed paper.  Then the feed mechanism lifts up and the error message 'printer is out of paper' is displayed on the small screen on the printer. If a single sheet of paper is inserted deep into the printer so that it can be captured by the print rollers, then the printer produces a normal 'printer status report'.The problem appeared after printing some photos on official HP photo paper with new official HP cartridges. Advice? From:molybdenum

    Hello @99stonemo99,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that your Photosmart C309 is not feeding paper.
    I would like to help.
It sounds like you have done all the trouble shooting.
Please review the following document for any missed steps.
HP Photosmart Premium Fax (C309a and C309c) All-in-One Printers - 'Out of Paper' Error Message and t...
If the printer will still not feed paper, then it is probably time for a new printer.
The Photosmart family of printers is currently being switched over to the ENVY family.
The new printers are also eligible for the Instant Ink program.
    There are about fourteen printers.
Eleven that you can click on to bring up the user manual.
This user manual should tell you if the printer can handle card stock.

  • Epson Stylus Photo R2880 feeds paper straight through without printing

So I recently got an Epson R2880 at work, and it at first it was awesome. After a few days, it started feeding paper straight through without printing (it doesn't even pretend to print) and telling me that the "Media [is] out or not loaded correctly". I went back and forth with Epson on it for a bit, and they ended up sending me a new printer.
The new printer seemed to work fine for a day or so, and then it started doing the same thing. If I turn it off and remove it from my printers list and then turn it back on and try again, sometimes it will make a print before starting to feed straight through again.
Here in the office, most of my printing consists of PDFs that I do through Acrobat XI. Some of them are borderless, some of them aren't. I have also tried printing from Preview and straight from InDesign CC and received the same results. I have tried multiple USB cables and my permissions are all in order.
I am running Mavericks 10.9.2 on a 2013 Mac Pro.
Since it seems fairly unlikely that I received two consecutive printers that have the same problem, I'm thinking that the problem is with something on my end. I'm willing to entertain the possibility that my luck really is bad enough to have two printers feed paper instead of print on it. I'm also willing to entertain the possibility that I'm an idiot and am repeatedly doing something idiotically. Regardless, I'm hoping that someone out there has some experience with this and can point me in the right direction, because holy cow this is annoying and Epson hasn't been super helpful.
    Thank you for reading this.

    I've never seen that one!
While waiting in the hope that "someone" will know the cause, I suggest you try the two generic fixes I try for all print problems:
    First, Reset the Printing System:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14141
If that doesn't help, restart from the Recovery partition, and use Disk Utility to repair the hard drive and repair permissions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718

  • Printing Paper Question--Are Creases OK?

I'm sorry because I'm sure I should ask this question in the forums of the Canon MX870 printer, because that's my device, but I really would like your opinions here. I like to recycle paper through my printer (old office paper and junk mail that still has one clean side for example) for printing needs around the house that typically just get read a time or two and then tossed. No need for archival quality printing and pristine paper.
I am just wondering if it is OK to use previously folded paper in my printer? I get lots of junk mail that has a couple of creases in it but still has a clean side that can be used for printing. Might the creases hurt the inkjet mechanism in my printer? I don't want to take the risk of damaging my printer just to recycle a few extra sheets of paper here and there.
    Thanks for the input,
    Steve M.

Thanks Bruce. That sounds promising. I might be helping my printer stay clean if I use creased paper in it! I'll definitely try to look that up in my documentation.
    Regards,
    Steve M.

  • Short-feed paper uses more toner

    SHORT-FEED PAPER USES MORE TONER
In the HP5550 and Xerox 7750 colour laser manuals, they state that short-feed paper (paper which goes into the printer short side first) uses more toner than long-feed paper. For example, for an A3 printer that can print 300 mm wide, A4 paper (297 mm x 211 mm) should be fed in long-feed so that it covers most of the 300 mm image drum (if that is the correct term). Feed it in short-feed (the 211 mm side first) and toner is wasted.
Why is this? Is toner deposited on parts of the image drum that won't be printed?
I've put this question to Xerox but as yet haven't received an answer. Thought I'd ask some of the experts here.

I misunderstood the manual when I posted this question. It actually stated that short-feed paper will increase consumable usage as compared to long-feed. Toner usage doesn't increase but the life of fuser, drum units and anything else in the paper path will decrease because a greater length of paper is going through the printer.

  • IPF6400 Wont Load Roll Paper: Crooked Paper

Hi there! I have a IPF 6400 and whenever I load my roll paper, I get an error message that the paper is crooked and it won't take. Any ideas on what is causing this?

  • C310A WILL NOT FEED PAPER. PRINTER CLICKS. If IT PUSH PAPER IN BY HAND, IT WILL PRINT, BUT NOT AUT

HP PHOTOSMART 310A printer will not feed paper.  It is about 6 months old, with minimal use at home.  It has always done a lot of clicking, but now when it would normally feed the paper, it clicks for several seconds, and the top piece of paper does not feed,  it then clicks again, like it is trying feed paper, then to back the paper out, and then stops.  The printer then posts a no paper in tray error.  When I reload it does the same thing again.   Does the printer not have a optical paper in tray sensor?  It should be able to see the paper is in the tray fairly easily, not sure why it uses the feed roller to sense paper?
It does not seem to work, regardless of the number of sheets used.  1, 10, 25, or mostly full of paper.
The clicking sounds more like gears slipping, rather than the normal clicking it makes all the time.  (with about 30 or 40 clicks in a few seconds, all at a fairly regular rate.)
it only clicks after the little arm extends down and touches the top of the paper stack.  There is a metal arm, with two white wheels that is dropped from above the paper onto the tray, and it appears to be that arm that is clicking.  It looks like it is trying to push the first (top) sheet of paper into the printer.  The top sheet does not move.   If I push the paper, it will take the paper and run just fine for that one sheet.
I opened the back, and there is an area with a couple of larger wheels that look like they feed the paper up from the tray into the printer.  In that area there was a cardboard piece with CN503-00012 printed on the side.  It appeared to be loose in the cover, and not sure what that is for? if it should be there? or if it is related,  I removed the cardboard piece.  Not sure what to do with that.  I do not think it is nessisarily related, since if I can feed the paper by pushing it, it takes it and prints.
Help explain what is going on.
    John

I do not recognize the cardboard peice you describe - I just opened up my c310a and did not see anything like this.  It may have been part of the packing material....
At any rate, I would suggest following the troubleshooting steps in this page.

  • Support Code 1007 printer will not feed paper from lower tray!

PIXMA MG5422 will not feed paper from lower tray. Wifi connect Mac OS X 10.9.4

I have the same problem with my Canon MG7120 and it's SUPREMELY annoying. I have a iMac running 10.10.4 and am also trying to use iPhones. The printer has no option to print from the lower tray if it sees any color or any odd size page. Anything from the iPhone will be treated the same, rendering it completely useless. I love Canon printers, have had many in the past, but this one is really really annoying.

  • Hp officejet 6500 doe snot feed paper

Would not feed paper.  cleaned the wheels that feed the paper but still nothing.  The wheels that lover on the ride side do not feed the paper thru

    Hey @3CPO,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're getting an 'Out of Paper' message when trying to print from your Windows 7 computer to your HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer. I would like to work with you today to resolve this issue.
Out of Paper messages can be due to rollers issues, debris or paper in the paper path, or a media issue. To isolate and resolve this paper feed issue can I please have you follow the steps below.
To start troubleshooting can I please have you click here. Once the support document opens please run through Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3. Should the issue persists after running these three steps can I have you click here. Once the Paper Jam support document opens please just run through Solution one and Solution two. I understand that you're not actually getting a Paper Jam message on your printer, but as I previously mentioned, Out of Paper errors can be caused by a paper jam or debris in the paper path blocking the paper sensor. Therefore, it is crucial to check the carriage area and paper path for any debris or paper.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Best of luck!

  • C6280 not feeding paper

I recently have had a problem with the paper not feeding correctly (jamming)  and now I can not get the paper to feed.....   I have cleaned the rollers in the back but still a problem...  do I need to replace the unit with the rollers in the back????    The printer has worked great for several years....

I'm having a very similar issue. Only now, instead of simply not loading the paper correctly, my printer will not put any ink on the page. it just runs one or more pieces of paper through, makes the noises, and then stops as if it did something. I'm at my wits end. Here's hoping I can find the receipt....

  • Report page scaling/zoom for paper size and field width?

Are there ways to design a report, or programmatically set a report to dynamically resize based on factors such as paper size (A4 vs. Letter vs. Legal), orientation (portrait vs. landscape), and field width (e.g fields grow and shrink based on data)?  We are looking at ways to dynamically choose paper size and scale.  This would be similar to how Excel files can adjust for printing depending on paper, and PDF files can zoom in/out for paper size.
    Thanks,
    Kyle

We don't want to add fields dynamically at runtime.  Instead we want to automatically resize fields at runtime to properly fit data on the page.  Currently with our 400 reports, data fields have gotten longer over the years so important data is being truncated.  We'd like it if fields could properly grow/shrink/scale so that the data is always valid.  We'd like it if the user flips from portrait to landscape, the field widths automatically grow to use the entire page.  Or, if a user goes from Letter to A4, pagination still works properly and the fields get slightly wider to fit the A4 standard.
What we don't want is to have a version of the report for portrait Letter, portrait A4, portrait Legal, landscape Letter, landscape A4, landscape Legal, etc.  It would be a support nightmare.
I don't know if it is possible, but I'm hoping it is.  Thanks for the help.
