HP C4780 will not connect to wireless router

I have the HP C4780 printer and a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.5. I have been able to install the printer software to my computer with the USB cable, and I am able to print as long as it is hooked up with the USB cable.
I want to set it up wirelessly though, and I keep getting error messages. I have reinstalled the software, I've updated the software on my Mac, and I've installed new firmware from my router.
I have the Netgear N600 Dual Band Router (WNDR3400v3). Both bands have SSID with WPA2-PSK. I tried switching to WPA-PSK but that did not make any difference.
The wireless radio on my printer is on (light is on), and I have restored the network defaults. I have tried doing the WifFi protected setup with the 'push button' (my netgear router has the WPS button on it). My router will blink after I push the WPS button and my printer says 'trying to connect', but I just keep getting "WPS error". I've also tried setting up the wireless using the USB cable and my installation cd, but when I get to the place where I can put in my network name it just keeps saying 'network unavailable'. I'm sitting right in from of the router, and my computer that I'm running the cd on is connected to that network.
I've run the network test report and it says the printer cannot find the router. It says the wireless is on and working, but Network name  (SSID) = FAIL. Also in the configuration summary under the SSID the name it shows does not match the SSID for my router. I'm not sure if this matters or not though.
When I print out the Network Configuration Page it shows that everything is enabled. I also printed off a list of 802.11 networks discovered, and my router's SSID in on the list (I'm in an apartment complex so there are quite a few on the list).
Sorry this is so long. I don't know that much about computers, so I'm not sure what is pertinant or not. I've just tried everything I can think of but nothing is working. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You need to reinstall the full featured software and drivers.  Now try.

    Hi @Southglen,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer will not recognize your wireless router password. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
I would recommend to go through this guide, How to Find the WEP or WPA Key or Password for Your Wireless Network, just to double-check your wireless password, in case it might have changed.
I would also suggest a hard reset, by going to this post How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1.

  • After recent apple update MBP will not connect to wireless internet

After running recent Security and Airport upgrades my Mac Book Pro (Intel) will not connect to wireless home router supplied by Verizon (GTE) and several public wi-fi's. Cannot get IP but sees networks. My iMac PPC still works fine. Prior to upgrade everything worked fine at home and abroad to other public wi-fi's. MBP still connects at work with AppleBase wireless. Can the upgrade be removed? Is there a simple fix? Should I wait for apple to fix this and break something else.... If not broken don't fix it..

    I'm having similar issues.
I have 2 MBP's. The newest one is about 1 month old and has never been able to connect to a WPA network. The older MBP is 20 months old and was originally installed with Tiger and gradually updated via Software Update and a retail copy of Leopard and subsequent Software Update updates to 10.5.2. Interestingly, this MBP was always able to access my WPA network until I decided to do an erase and install. I installed the retail copy of Leopard and was subsequently unable to access my WPA network. So, I went back to my Tiger install disks - but I'm guessing that whatever Leopard did *possibly* updated the firmware of the airport card as, even under Tiger, I could not access my WPA network (yes, I agree it seems unlikely that an OS update would/should update firmware but I am grasping at straws).
Trying to further understand the problem , I noted that the Network utility in System preferences would always show either a connection error or a connection timeout whenever I attempted to join my WPA network. I turned on syslog in my router and attempted to rejoin the network and saw the following errors:

  • My iPad 2 will not connect to wireless.  It recognized the wireless address but when I enter the password it just spins

My ipad2 will not connect to wireless.  It recognizes our router but when I put in password it just spins.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • IPad will not connect to wireless

iPad will not connect to wireless network, keeps trying but will not connect.  Working on our other iPad that has no issue connecting to the same network

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
Or - Recalibrate the battery. See link below.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • After installing windows 7, will not connect to my router

I installed windows 7, 64-bit on my macbook late 2009 model. After installing, it would not connect to my router. However, it did connect under Mac OS X and it also worked with my roommates laptops, but not my macbook running windows 7. I searched everywhere and could not find a solution. Tried updating drivers (updated to bootcamp for windows 64 bit, 3.1 and then 3.2). Tried setting it up manually. Also, did not work. Does anyone have any solutions for this? It seems a lot of people are also having this issue.

For wired or wireless if you have not already done it,
    1) Remove router cable from Modem,
    2) Unplug Router power,
    3) Unplug Modem power,
    4) Wait a few minutes
    5) Replug Router power,
    6) Replug router cable to Modem
    7) Replug Modem power
Also router may in combo with more modern (if wireless?) PC have security (password setup) requirement.

  • Printer will not connect to wireless network

I have followed all the troubleshooting ideas, but still keep getting the following message...  "This computer appears to have a working internet connection, but cannot find "Deskjet 2540 series [CA8F2C]._ipp_tcp.local." You many have typed the address incorrectly."  Does anyone have any ideas what to do to fix this problem?

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that your HP Deskjet 2540 will not connect to your wireless network on Mac OS X 10.7. I am happy to help!  Please try the steps within the following guides:  'Printer Offline' or 'Printer Not Responding' Message (OS X).Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection. How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity in OS X Lion or earlier. Hope these guides are helpful, and have a nice day!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • I have a HP2101nw wireless print server and it will not connect to my router.

The status of my wireless print server always says it is not connected and idle on both my laptops.  I have tried to connect through the advanced settings but it does not find my router.  I have tried to connect manually but it fails.  Could a firewall be blocking it?  My router works fine on the internet for both laptops.  Any ideas?

If other wireless devices are connecting OK, you know that the AirPort Express is operating correctly since all devices are receiving the same wireless signal from the Express.
It's possible, but extremely unlikely that there will be other Samsung phone users on an Apple support forum, so I would suggest that you check with Samsung support to reset the Samsung phone back to default wireless settings so you can set up a new connection again.

  • Officejet pro 8600 will not connect to wireless network

I have an new Officejet Pro 8600 that I am trying to set up.  I have run the the wireless network setup wizard multiple times.  It recognizes the wireless network router asks for the WEP code and then thinks for about 5 minutes before returning a message: "Unable to connect to the network"
The wireless network test results suggestes that MAC address filtering may be the problem.  There is no MAC filtering function activated on our wireless router.
    The wireless router is a Verizon Actiontec MI424-WR    802.11 b & n
We have computers running both Windows XP and MAC OS X.
One of the reasons that we purchased this printer is for the wireless capabilities.  If it will not conect to the web then it may be going back.

    Hello,
Based on the provided details, I believe the issue have something to do with the wireless security settings of your router.
Please follow the steps below to access the Advanced Security Settings:
    http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSInternet/Networking/Setup/ActiontecMI424/125511.htm
Below you will see the Network Authentication settings.
Select either Open System Authentication or Both.
Shared Key Authentication is not supported by the printer, and i believe this might be the cause for the connection failure.
Please let me know of any change,
    Shlomi

  • I have just returned from visiting Italy where I got the internet from various wi fi addresses. Now on my return to England my wi fi will not connect to my router (smart phone does connect OK)saying 'this wi fi network could not be joined'. Any ideas?

The Air Port fan icon on the menu bar is greyed out and when I click it to connect a message  appears ' the wi fi network could not be joined '. The wi fi is turned on both on the router and selected as on in the screen drop down. The smart phone works perfectly with the wi fi router so it must be something to do with the Mac book. It worked fine before I took it to Italy. It does work Ok using an Ethernet cable. Could it be that some Italian IP's are being stored in the laptop and the UK IP is not being recognised? Any ideas on what could be done? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks !

  • Airport will not connect to Linksys router after iDisk sync force quit

    Hi,
Hoping someone can help me here, kinda at my wits end.
A week ago I was video ichatting and restarted my MacBook because the video feed was sluggish. I thought a restart would help.
Unknown to me was that my iDisk was syncing. I recieved an warning dialogue box and was given the option of canceling the restart or force quitting the iDisk sync. I choose to force quit and proceed with the restart. After choosing to continue with the force quit I received an error message, it had the phrase "Mirror Agent" in it, and then my MacPro restarted.
Since that first restart, I have not been able to connect, using Airport, to my Linksys Wireless router (model # WRT54 GX4).
This is where it gets strange. Airport sees the router, displays a signal strength, shows up on my list of perfered networks...it displays all of the signs of a fully connected router but when I try to access the web, check mail or use iChat I cannot because Safari, Mail and iChat tell me that I am not connected to the internet.
When I ran the network dianogistic tool, it first asked me why I would want to run it because it thought I was already connected. After running the tool it still came back with the same results, I was connect to the internet. But I still couldn't launch Safari, it just hung.
This is where it gets really wierd. My wife, she's on a HP, can connect, using her built-in wireless card. Even after changing the Firmware on the Linksys router, her pc can still connect.
And here's the icing on the cake. There are some unprotected wireless networks on my street. I can connected to those but not my own! Something has to be blocking the signal between my AirPort card and the Linksys router. Does that make sense?
And if there is one saving grace to all of this, I still can connect to the web using the built-in Ethernet.
    Here's what I have tried:
Removed Perfered Network, restarted MAC, added network back, still no connectivity.
Removed security (was using WPA/WPA2) from the router still no connectivity.
Removed Airport Keychain, restarted MAC, added router back, still no connectivity.
Repaired the permissions on my HD, someone at work told me to try that, still no connectivity.
Updated firmware to Linksys router to version 1.00.20, no connectivity.
Rebooted Linksys router and cable modem, still no connectivity.
Thank you to all in advance for reading my rambling note and forgiving my poor spelling (it is way past my bedtime and the keys are really blurry). I am still very new to Mac's and appreiciate any help that you can provide.
    Cheers,
    Alan

Sounds like you have two wireless networks on the same channel.
Change the channel on the Airport Express.

  • B209a will not connect to wireless network

    Hello,
I have a LAN at home where the B209a printer is connected wirelessly to a router which is itself connected vie ethernet over a powerline bridge to another wireless router which connects to the internet via DSL.  This configuration worked fine until the wireless router connected to the printer (a Belkin item) failed.
I replaced the failed router with a Netgear WNR2000v3 wireless router and, using the setup disk provided with the printer, connected it to the printer wirelessly.  Then the problems began....
Firstly, although computers connected wirelessly to the other router could 'see' the printer, it was not possible to print from them with 'printer offline' being reported.
To try to resolve this, I then changed the SSIDs on both routers to make them the same and tried to set up the printer again.
Now, however, I cannot connect the printer at all.  During the setup the printer 'sees' both networks.  When I try to connect, however, the setup procedure gets stuck at 'looking for network'.  The printer is connected to the iMac running 10.5.8 via USB as recommended in the setup instructions.  referring to a similar discussion elsewhere, I printed the config page from the printer which shows the printer Ip to be 0.0.0.0.
I would therefore appreciate advice to how first connect the printer back to the Netgear router and then how to print from it using a computer connected wirelessly to the other router on the LAN, which would restore the functionality in place until the Belkin router failed.
    Thanks in anticipation.

Following the advice in the article http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/photosmart-plus-b209a-won-t-connect-to-... I was able to conect the printer to the router.
However, the other problem remains: I cannot print from a computer connected to a different router in the LAN.
Any advice on this would be appreciated.

  • OFFICEJET 6100 WILL NOT CONNECT TO WIRELESS - 10.9.4 - NO SUGGESTIONS HELP

Tried everything and just waiting   30 minutes on chat and then got bumped off the moment the tech connect... after it said 1 minute or less... I waited another 15 minutes.... now trying to connect via chat again and now have another 28 mintues to wait... but now how can I trust the time estimates??? very frustrating just to connect a simple printer to a wireless connection... this is easy on laser printers...what is the problem with these deskjets... I told the owner to just return it and get a brother laser

I'm sorry the support experience has been frustrating so far.   Hopefully, we can help here.
Can you provide a little more information?
What router are you connecting to?
What are the steps you are taking to connect?  Are you using the HP software setup?  Or WiFi Protected Setup?
Depending on your router, you may be able to use WPS push button setup, which is very easy:
To connect the printer using the Push Button Method
    1. On the printer, press and hold the (Wireless) button for 3 seconds. The wireless light
    starts blinking.
    2. On the wireless router or wireless access point, press and hold the WPS button for 3
    seconds.
Wait for about 2 minutes. If the printer connects successfully, the wireless light stops
    blinking but remains lit.
I'll wait to hear more information.
