HP C5180 not printing via Airport

Hello - I've been trying to get our HP C5180 printer to print via Airport. After calling the HP helpdesk their view was that if the printer printed via USB then the fault/problem was with the Airport and that they could not assist any further. Hopefully someone maybe able to offers some assistance.
I've made sure that selecting configuration for our Airport, then the Base Station Option tab, then the USB printer section, that the Airport is seeing the printer - it appears correctly.
Printing to the printer it spools a document through then evantually returns an error message of "Opening printer connection failed. Unable to open the printer connection. Please check your printer connections and check for printer errors".
Can anyone help please!? Thanks in advance.

Could be, that if a newer driver for the printer you have exists,
and is available, it may not have been in the software for it; so
maybe some other printer driver may need to be found to work.
There are some compatible drivers available for free through a
web site; the name is GutenPrint (or formerly Gimp Print) and
there may be a newer driver. Not sure if those work with 10.3.
If the OS you have were not so old, another answer may be
in a new driver direct from the printer manufacturer's homepage.
Guten Print - Gimp Print:
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
Supported printers for use with the AirPort Base Station's USB
port can be spotty; some work fine and others may require an
other way around their unwillingness to function. There still are
some wireless printer servers out there; not sure if they'd work.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • HP printer not printing via Airport Express

I have a HP DeskJet D2330 printer that I am trying to use via Airport Express. The issue is that while the printer is detected in the Airport Utility, and is detected in System Preferences as a Bonjour printer, I can't print to it. Documents sent to the printer appear in the queue and then disappear but no pages come out of the printer.

Hi - similar problem. Mine talked a little (test page would print about ~1 inch then grind to halt). No luck with escalated apple network tech. Problem (apple sez) is with HP. HP is quiet but has list of printers "likely" to work with Airport Extreme , but dated (indicates rendezvous with extreme vice bonjour). FYI, my printer works fine when USB direct to mac. Also Works fine from Mac or PC as ethernet-connected printer on home network (with Linksys/N Giga router) as network printer (also sets up as "bonjour" printer for what that is worth). Also problem exists with imac connected to Airport extreme via wireless or wired. So...problem seems to be pretty specific to talking via airport extreme USB. Havent tried to use ethernet yet, but need the slot for other equip.
    Anyone else having any luck?
Also anyone have proven good printer hookup? I need photo quality printer.

  • Just installed the latest Canon printer software update (V 3.2) from the App store. Canon Pixma MX850 will not print. Dialog says job stopped at the server - no pages found. Utilities, print test page works. Printing via Airport.

Just installed the latest Canon printer software update (V 3.2) suggested by the App store in effort to get printer working after OS update. Canon Pixma MX850 will not print. Dialog says job stopped at the server - no pages found. Utilities, print test page works. Attempting to print via Airport from a MacBook Pro. Also from a Mac Pro via ethernet. Both worked before updating to Yosemite. Canon Pro 9000 Mk 2 works via USB. Tried installing driver 10.84 from OS 10.9 as suggested by PAHU; no luck.

The "stopped at server - no pages found" message would suggest an image with the print file that is created by the printer driver on the MacBook Pro. But if the Mac Pro is getting the same message then that is unusual.
To rule out a couple of causes I would try connecting the MacBook Pro directly to the MX850 by USB cable. This action should result in a new printer for the USB connection being created automatically. If not then you may need to manually create it as you won't be able to use the existing printer that exists for the network connection. With the new printer created see if this will let you print without error.
If this USB connected printer also fails with the same message then try a reset of the printing system. Note that this action will also remove the Pro 9000 from Printers & Scanners so you will have to add it and the MX850 again.

  • Printing via Airport Express does not Work

I have been using an Airport Express Basestation with my Mac Mini and Epson Stylus 880 for about a year without a problem. Now I have moved to an Intel iMac and cannot print via Airport anymore. The file get´s spooled but then I get an error message saying that the printer driver might be incompatible. If I use the same driver with the local USB port everythings works fine.
    Please help,

  • Upgraded to OS X 10.6.4, now lexmark E232 will not print thru airport

Upgraded to 10.6.4. Updated airport software 7.4.2. Lexmark will not print thru Airport. Will print direct via USB.
Airport utility suggests/shows that it's set up properly, Printer shows up in print & fax preferences. Only differences since yesterday are the software updates.

Welcome to the discussion area, bseidenstat!
This has worked for me in the same situation, but with a different printer. Can't say if it will work for you, but might be worth a try to reset the printing system if all else has failed (and you haven't already tried this)
Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme
Open System Preferences, then open Print & Fax
Control-click or right-click in the printers box on the left, choose "Reset printing system" and click OK
Click the + (plus) button to add your printer again
    Try to print

  • Leopard incapable of printing via airport?

What the heck did apple do to screw up wireless printing?
I could print on Panther os to my printer when it was hooked up to airport. It meant hooking it up to airport and adding the printer a second time (then labelling it as wireless so I know which is which). How do you do that in leopard?
Leopard says the printer is there but lies when it comes time to print and says it can't connect unless i plug into usb port. why can't it print when the printer is hooked to airport?
How do you get this wireless printing to work on Leopard?
The normal printer utility doesn't exist and I have no idea on how to tell leopard to print via airport to the printer (leopard is too stupid to figure it out) and apple won't let me ask anymore.
HELP HELP HELP! HOW DO I GET THIS STUPID LEOPARD OS TO PRINT TO IT?

OK. Here's the answer to my own question. And here is what apple did to confuse the issue.
First, you have to go to the airport utility to fix leopard so it finds the usb printer plugged into the airport usb port because it has to configure the wan port as a printer.
In utilities, click on airport utility.
(this is when airport utility suddenly realized it had to update itself). Why the update was never found using software update I'll never know....
Complete the update. Exit airport utility and relaunch so that it detects the previous airport setup.
IT SHOULD LIST WHAT IT FOUND. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW IS A CLICK BUTTON LABELLED MANUAL SETUP. CLICK ON MANUAL SETUP. Why apple thought to hide the printer setup in airport manual setup is anyone's guess....
IN THE MENU THERE IS A PRINTER ICON AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN. CLICK THAT AND THE REST IS EASY. IT SHOULD FIND THE PRINTER SO ADD IT AND RENAME IT BY ADDING BONJOUR OR SOMETHING TO THE NAME SO THAT YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE SELECTING THE PRINTER WHEN IT IS PLUGGED INTO THE AIRPORT BASE STATION. Set sharing if you want to share the printer in system preferences sharing icon. RENAME THE NEW PRINTER OTHERWISE, YOU'LL HAVE TWO PRINTERS, ONE THE COMPUTER LOOKS FOR ON THE USB PORT AND ONE IT LOOKS FOR THE ON AIRPORT BASE STATION.
SET THE DEFAULT PRINTER TO THIS NEW PRINTER SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY IT WILL PRINT VIA AIRPORT TO THE PRINTER.
Panther was so much easier and logical in setting up the printer to run off airport.

  • Printing via airport extreme then via ethernet to Hp Deskjet 6840

    Hi,
Thanks for any help in advance.
I have a powerbook and can't print to my ethernet printer. If I plug in the ethernet cable to the powerbook it prints fine.
Is it possible to print to a networked printer via airport.
I cannot connect the HP to the USB on the side of the airport as that would cut off the other hard wired macs on the network.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    G3 powerbook pismo 400   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I've been using my 6980 wirelessly through my Airport Extreme router. It works very well even when multiple users are accessing. I don't have any of my machines hardwired though. It shouldn't matter, if your laptop can talk to the hardwired machines the printer should too.
Grab the 6840 setup guide and your software CD and follow the instructions for setting up wireless. Since the 6840 predates Tiger you may need updated drivers, but if you can print to it now you're probably OK.
If you have WEP activated, your network hidden, or both, the setup process is a little complicated. Let me know if that's the case and I can help you through it. I have a closed network with 128 bit WEP and got everything connected with few problems (took a little finagling).
If you don't have your setup guide handy you can go here for information:

  • New macbook won't print, via airport, on HP Deskjet 3845

    Hello there
I used to have an iBook G4 running Tiger and it printed very well. Now I upgraded to a new aluminum macbook running Leopard 10.5.5. It prints ok when the printer is connected to the usb port. When I try to add the printer via airport express, the system finds the printer with bonjour but doesn't recognize the driver. I selected the driver manually but it doesn't accept it.
    I really appreciate any help.
    Thanks a lot

  • HP Laserjet 1010 & Wireless printing via Airport USB - Not working in SL

    Hi There,
After just upgrading to Snow Leopard on my MacBook I tried printing wirelessly to my HP Printer, but no luck!
    Printer: HP Laserjet 1010
Connected via: Airport with USB cable
Snow Leopard recognises the printer and is fine to print when the printer is connected directly to the MacBook via USB cable, but:
When I set up wireless printing, it finds the printer (via Bonjour) but simply will not print. The print monitor gets to 24% or so of the file processed and then just stops & fails.
Everything was fine under 10.5 Leopard. It seems it should work, but no printing occurs! Any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Paul

    I had a similar-sounding problem with my HP1012.
    The fix:
    a. power-cycled the Airport Extreme.
    b. Updated firmware.
    c. Select Print in an application.
For an extended discussion of what I did see here - some of this may help:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2142906&tstart=60
Actually, at this point I have two printers connected: Airport Extreme ->USB powered hub ->2 printers. One is the HP1012, the other is an HP 4300 series inkjet. Took sometime to get it right, the first hub I tried apparently was not powered enough. In that vein, one earlier thread (a response to one of my posts) pointed out the possibility that the AE -> printer USB connection might not be adequately powered, and to try using an intermediate hub. Assuming your AE is performing properly in all other respects, don't rule out a cable or other printer connection issue even if the setup was working properly before.

  • Win XP does not print via Canon MP970 via Airport Extreme

OK, I bought a Canon MP970 printer and hooked it up to the airport extreme, changed all of the ports to 10.0.1.1 on my XP, shared the printer, ran Bonjour, ran airport utility, and everything I know how to do. I can print from my Powerbook G4 and from a new black macbook that I just bought on my network. Problem is I cannot print from my windows XP PC. Very frustrating. It did work fine with my HP printer; that is print from my laptops AND my PC desktop via airport extreme. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OK, I kept working at it and seemed to have fixed the problem. I finally just redirected the port to a local one "9101"and not the 10.0.1.1 and began working. I am not sure what I did definitively to make it work. And I just installed the latest printer drivers into my PB G4 and new blackbook and worked. I really just need to trash the PC and go with Apple but you know.......wife.....$$$$$, etc....

  • Can no longer print via Airport Extreme BS Network

I can no longer get my Samsung laser printer (ML-1210) to print via my Airport Extreme Base Station Network. All I get is the Printer Center telling me that it can't find the printer. Prior to OS X 10.4.4 and Airport Firmware update 5.7 no problems, after OS X 10.4.4 and Airport Firmware update 5.7 some types of documents (.pdf) would print sometime and some types (.rtd) wouldn't print at all. After OS X 10.4.5 nothing prints.
The printer is connected to the AEBS via an USB cable.
So far directly connecting my PB to the printer via an USB cable seems to print OK, as far as regular text files (Rich, and Plain) are concerned.

I tried so many things I'm dizzy. Nothing done to the computer, not even clean installing OS 10.4 on an external HD and booting from that worked. What seems to have finally worked (????) was reverting the AEBS Firmware version down to version 5.5.1.
Since I print so infrequently I'm not going to say it's all OK until I do some more testing/printing.
In the mean time if anyone can give me an specific idea why this conflict may be happening and what else I can do to fix it without running my AEBS with older Firmware I would be grateful.
The latest driver for Samaung ML-1210 is a couple of years old and I think it is a proprietary code (not something standard like PostScript).
I'm not sure if it's only the AEBS Firmware or a combination of conflicts between the "OS Version-Printer Driver-AEBS Firmware".
    Thanks.

  • Can no longer print via AirPort Extreme

I am unable to print via my AirPort Extreme. I have a LaserJet 1320 that prints fine when directly connected to my MacBook Pro, but when plugged into the AE, it does not. I am able to see and add the printer via Bonjour, but when a document is sent to the printer an exclamation mark shows up over the printer icon and the queue stops.
When I run Network Diagnostics the following message results:
Network Diagnostics was able to connect to the Internet but not to the server "hp LaserJet 1320 series.pdl-datastream.tcp.local.". This could be caused by problems with the server, or an Internet problem between this computer and the server.
This printer was printing fine via AirPort up until about a week or two ago. Is this related to the recent AirPort update?
    Apple (or somebody) please help!!!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Anyone else noticing that this problem seems to be reoccurring. I've gone through the process of restarting the Aiport Extreme about once a month since I got it. Everything will be working fine, and then one day, it simply stops. Restarting the base station gets things back on track, for a while, at least.
Seems to me to be a firmware problem on the base station, since it's repeatable. Sad to see others are having the problem, but I'm glad I saw this thread since I had convinced myself it was the printer and was about to replace it ...

  • Can't print from Win2000 to USB printer via Airport Extreme

Background: I have an Epson Stylus Photo 820 printer connected by USB to an Airport Extreme base station. My iMac is connected to the base station via an ethernet cable.
Using Bonjour for Windows 1.0.3, I've set up the Epson printer to print from Win2000 in a virtual machine in VirtualPC 6 which is running in the iMac. The setup process for the printer completed OK, without a hitch. (By the way, I loaded the printer driver from the printer's disk, because the driver for the Epson Stylus Photo 820 isn't one of the drivers selectable from the Bonjour window.)
Problem: When I try to print via the route that I set up using Bonjour, an error message appears, stating:
    - There was an error found when printing the document "mhtml.mid://00000047/" to IP-extreme986254.local.9100"\
(Note: extreme986254 is the name of the network I configured in the base station. Otherwise, the network is working OK. Also, my Win2000 in VPC is connected to the internet OK.)
When I re-try printing, I get the same error message.
When I hook the printer directly to the iMac by USB and then set it up as a printer for Win2000 in that configuration, I have no trouble printing to the printer.
