HP c7180 Printer - Black prints blurry but color is okay

Aloha,
I have an HP c7180 printer and have recently had a problem where the black cartridge prints blurry and with lines through the print, but the color prints fine.  I tried cleaning the printhead and aligning the printer, but these did not work.  I also bought a brand new HP 02 black printer cartridge put the problem still exists.  Anyone have any ideas on how to go about fixing?  It's my last ditch effort before tossing the thing :-)
Thanks for your help!

I am interested if you find out what is causing this, as I have the same situation.  One or two lines are fuzzy in the black, and it appears the top half is offset from the bottom half on only two lines of text in the entire page.

  • Pages 09 poster only prints as black and white but color looks fine on the screen

The original template my poster was based upon prints in color, I can print other documents from pages in color without issue, and even if I print to pdf (which looks fine on the screen) and then open the pdf in preview and then print, it still prints black and white.
Um, and yes, it's a color printer and it's a standard 8.5x11 paper, so there's nothing too weird there.  It looks totally fine literally everywhere except paper, and I have no other issues with any other documents, even really similar ones, that I have sent through the same printer.
I sent the same pdf file to a local copy shop and it printed just fine.
    ACK!  Please help!

I can't find anything that is print to black & white or grey scale in the document rules or anywhere else, and since the printer prints it as a pages document AND a pdf as black and white--but someone else can print the same PDF file in living color on their printer without any issues, I'm stumped.
Without changing anything, I can print any other document, jpg, web page, or anything on the same printer (including the same apple template) and the colors are fine...but then this one prints in b&w.

  • I am trying to print a webpage in black ink only but it continues to be printed with colors.

Printer OfficeJet 6500 A.  I am trying to print a webpage in black ink only but it continues to be printed in color.  What settings must I use?

That was just my curiosity about the web browser. It has nothing to do with the printing issue.
Have you selected gray scale and tried reprinting yet?

  • How to chose either you want to print a picture or document black in white or color?

How to chose either you want to print a picture or document black in white or color from your computer before printing; regardless of picture being colored or black in white.
I bought HP Laserjet Pro 200 Color Mfp m276 yesterday. I am completely new to printers and printing. My question is how to chose either the print out would be color or Black in white.
At my school liberary and public liberaries, when i print an image or document, in there printer drop down selection menu, they have the option of Color print or black in white print. I want to make mine same too. I have two printers there which is
    1.  HP Laserjet Pro 200 Color Mfp PCL6
    2. NPI16FE39 (HP Laserjet Pro 200 Color Mfp m276NW)
I tried goint to Contol Panel>Drvices and Printers> HP Laserjet Pro 200 Color> printing preferences> and selected "Print in Graystyle"
than i printed from HP Laserjet Pro 200 Color; by selecting it from drop down menu, but the print out was still coloured..
    PLEASE HELP ME!!
it may be something to do with printing settings..
I just want to select between Black in White and color ... before printing the page out (regardless of picture being colored)

  • When I export to PDF, the black text is printing in full color instead of just black

I have Pages 09 (version 4.0.5). I am exporting a document to PDF and emailing it to a copy shop for printing. The document has a color cover, and 36 pages of black text inside. The copy shop is telling me that the pages with black text are printing as color pages instead of black and white pages. I need to figure out how to get them to print black to keep costs down. Is this a problem with my file, with the PDF export, or with their print settings?
    Things I've tried...
    1. Using the color palette, I have switched to the color sliders mode and changed all the text to CMYK with 100% black and 0% everything else. I have also tried changing it to grayscale with 0% brightness. Neither of these seemed to have an effect.
    2. I downloaded the trial version of Adobe Acrobat Pro and converted the PDF to grayscale. This worked, but it's only a temporary solution.
    Any other ideas?

    Peter,
It's a pretty safe assumption that your average Joe isn't using text styles, but in this case you're talking to a guy who has worked as both a prepress technician and a graphic designer in a former life. I just don't have all the software of the trade at this point in my life. If I did, I sure wouldn't be messing with Pages and Preview. Although overall I'm pretty impressed with them, considering what they are.
Anyway, I am using text styles and I made sure to update them all. The PDF still came out with the rich black color. I have a feeling Pages' PDF exporter automatically converts all black to that four-color rich black on the assumption that you'll want it. I wouldn't care, especially since I'm just printing at a copy shop with no special quality requirements, except that we're printing hundreds of these things every week, and the full color prints more than double the cost.
Thanks for the help, guys! It looks like filtering the PDF through Preview will do the trick. If anybody can confirm a way to do this directly in Pages, I would appreciate not having to go through the extra steps.

  • HP 6500A Plus will not print black only if any color cartridges are low. It used to. Why not now?

HP 6500A Plus will not print black only if any color cartridges are low. It used to. Why not now? It will print in color if the black is low but not if any color is low. This is very annoying. Printer is using HP cartridges too.

Get used to this with HP printers - its a new feature they have introduced to keep running costs lows - works well. Had two HP printers same happened with both of these. Suggest a different brand - they might not have this special feature

  • Printing in black only with depleted COLOR cartrages doesn't work.

I just downloaded a missing W2 and NEED to print it like yesterday. My yellow and megenta cartrages are empty. But the document is black and white but NONE of the ways of printing in black only work because HP uses my VERY expencive ink to do things OTHER then printing? Really??? Is that for real? Does HP really charge an arm and a leg for ink and then use it for purposes OTHER then putting said ink on paper?

I have the exact same issue. The instructions state specifically that it will print with a depleted cartridge in grayscale but nothing works. I had to order one online. What is infuriating is that I rarely print in color. If I knew this would be an issue I never would have bought this printer.

You posted in the OS 9 & below forum. What OS X version are you using? What model Canon printer? Canon printers have a test print capability (open the Printer Utility). What happens when you do a test print? Are all the printer cartridges in their proper location? Sometimes when you print "black", the printer uses a mixture of the colors to get "black". In the Printer Utility, check the levels of the other cartridges. There may be one color that is clogged.

  • Printer regonizes Black/white page as color page

When we print a Word document to a PDF file with the Acrobat printer, pages that contain only Black/White information but with an image that looks as if it is Black/White, the printer recognizes the page as a color page. When we print this page with Word directly to the printer, the page is recognized as a Black/White page.
Are there color setting available which control the setting for gray scale images to be printed Black/White?

    Leo,
choose for default settings a joboption set which
    contains for output
    Settingsfile: None
Color Management: Leave Color Unchanged (!)
    Results:
Source sRGB (color): PDF color 3x8 bits
    OK
Source Grayscale: PDF gray 1x8 bits (Indexed)
    OK
Source sRGB (gray) with R=G=B: PDF gray 1x8bits (Indexed)
    Very wrong.
This is a well known bug in the Acrobat software:

  • My black and white printing has a color tint to it. How do I change this?

It seems like whenever I print anything that is supposed to be just black and white, such as a word document, the black is not a true black--it has a colored tint. I originally thought this was a printer issue and contacted tech support for the printer, but they identified it as a computer issue once we hooked up multiple printers to the iMac and the same thing kept happening. There is no setting I can find in the computer to change this because I don't know what its called. Any help would be appreciated!

the first printer it did it on was a canon mp460, the second it did it on was an HP 4400 series, the third it is currently doing it on is an HP officejet 4500. I have tried changing the settings in the print dialog box to the b&w or grayscale, it still does the tinted black.
I had the canon mp180. I have the HP psc 1209 now.  I haven't seen this problem with 10.4.11.
Curiously, I heard of this problem with some Ubuntu drivers. Turned you their conversion program GhostPrint could only convert to either black or color. The color convert resulted in grey black. It was with an HP printer.  Ubuntu & Mac OS X share some of the same print technology.
I see you have iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.9).  I suggest you upgrade to 10.4.11.  Pick one of the combo updates referenced on this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Regardless of the print problem, you should upgrade. Do you have wireless, if so you will need to reconfigure.

  • 5510 black print blurry

Black started printing blurry, installed new HP cartridge. No improvement. Cleaned, diagnosed, aligned, still nothing. Repeated process. Nothing. Assumed it's the black printhead. No way to remove and clean.
Went out and bought another (used) HP 5510, as I had all new cartridges. Removed old software, reinstalled new.
Black ink slightly better, not good. Tested another four 564XL ink cartridges, same issues. Tested, cleaned, aligned, etc.
No improvement. Checked settings in Word, Windows 7 on my 64 bit computer. All settings seem to be in order.
When I COPY from the printer, the output is fairly good, not perfect. Diagnostics page prints petty good, still missing some minor black print. Some lines missing.
Installed and ran HP' s printer doctor. The test page printed out perfectly.  Tried printing again from word, excel, publisher, results still show missing black print - blurry text with tops.
I'm using a lot of my colored ink cartridges just printing test pages, cleaning, and printing diagnostic pages.
How can this same result occur with 2 different printers?

    Hi lynnalb,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand the black is missing and also on the 2nd Photosmart 5510 printer.
I will be happy to help you.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector)
The printer requires more power when scanning and copying.
I would update the firmware for the printer.
Firmware update to fix miscellaneous defects.
Here is a document for cleaning the cartridge contacts and checking the vents on them.

HP says that the drivers for your all in one print/scanner are downloadable from apple. For the scanner to use preview. image capture or the scan icon from the print driver queue.  I don't know how old your HP is, but I know that the newer Os from apple don't support a lot of older printers. You might be able find a third party driver that could work.

  • Officejet Pro 8000 A809 - can I print just black and have empty color cartridge?

I saw in a previous post entitled "PSC 1410 - can I print just black and have empty color cartridge"
that the printer does color underprinting even when printing black and white, to prevent bleeding.
My question is, is this also true when selecting the grayscale printing option in the printer properties dialog box?
I installed the printer using an ethernet connection to a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop computer running Windows XP Professional

Yes you will still need the color cartridge.  The printer uses what is called under printing, it still uses some of the color cartridge's ink in this process, even when printing in just black, the reason is to stop the black from "bleeding"

  • My printer is Hp printer 932C it will only print in black and white not color

my printer is Hp printer 932C it will only print in black and white not color I got a new color cartage nothing still only printing in back and whit what can i do

There are a few things to check:
Make sure the blue tape has been removed from the nozzle plate.
Print a diagnostic page as shown in method 4 here.  Does this page print color?  If so the issue may be your driver settings.  Check for a "Print in grayscale" setting and uncheck this box.

    Hi JasperNM,
You may access a card within the cart reader by mapping a network drive to access it, then you may transfer the fies to your Mac.
First locate the printer IP address as following:
Follow these steps to print a Wireless Network Test Report, the IP address will be listed within that report:
On the control panel, press the Setup button ( ).
Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to scroll to Network Setup , and then press the OK button.
Press the OK button to select Print Network Settings .
Press the Right Arrow button ( ) to scroll to Wireless Test Report , and then press the OK button. The Wireless Network Test Report prints.
Now map a network driver by following the steps below:
Click the Finder icon on your Mac.
    Click the Go menu.
    Click on Connect to Server.
In the Server Address field enter “smb://ipaddress of the printer” and click on Connect.
You will be prompted to enter the password. leave it as is and click on Connect.
The Memory card will be mounted as a disk in the Finder.
