HP claims ASU support for old HP printer OS X 10.8.3 not recognizing

Hello,
I am running OS X 10.8.3 on my Mac Pro and I want to use my old HP Laserjet 3100 to print-only. The following HP Support Document link claims this printer has print-only support from ASU:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c03411613
I followed all instructions to install the latest "HP Printer Drivers v.2.13 for OS X", and Add the printer via System Preferences/Print & Scan/+, yet the printer is not listed in the Printer Software list.
Is anyone aware of a solution that you would please share with me?
Thank You!!!

Thanks you for the replies. Greg's reply helped me make progress: the generics did not work, but installing the Linux hpijs and the two additional required downloads led the driver to automatically appear as the driver to "Use" when I went to "Add" the printer.
Unfortunately, that is where the progress ended. Nothing I try to print appears in the Print Queue or prints. The printer is "Ready" and I have tried everything I can in "Printer not Working" link Eric included above.
Any suggestions?
Thank You!

They're probably just interested in getting $ from you, there are several companies who advertise in a way that suggests 'official' support for all sorts of things. Unfortunately, if they had access as you describe, they potentially could have installed other software and/or read any of your files.
Ideally - change all passwords for email/banking/login & restore a backup from before this happened.

Is the computer in you equipment line:
    Dual Core Intel Xenon
(which is not a PowerMac but a Mac Pro) the one you are asking about, or do you have an older PowerMac?
If a Mac Pro, their forums are here:
    Mac Pro
and, as Mac Pros have a totally different architecture from the pre-2005 Macs this forum covers, you may not have the same issues that can affect the older models. If someone didn't notice your equipment line, you could get advice that doesn't apply.
If you really have a pre-2005 PowerMac, read on.
If the stubborn external is USB and does not have its own power brick (i.e., it gets power only from the computer's UBS ports--"bus powered"), it may not be getting enough power. As electric motors age, they can demand more power than when new, and the power available on any USB port is limited.
The typical workabouts to making a computer recognize an aging, bus-powered USB drive are:
Get a powered USB hub (has its own power brick
Get a "Y" USB cable: 1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
The second gets power from two USB ports on the computer and often that's enough.
Remember that the USB ports on your keyboard seldom provide enough power even for a thumb drive, so be sure to use the USB ports on the back of the computer.

  • Need Postscript for old Gestetner printer. Who can supply?

I need Postscript for an old Gestetner printer. Who can supply?

I assume you are asking for a source of upgrading a Gestetner printer to interpret PostScript as well as whatever other page description language the particular printer supports.
Gestetner was purchased by Ricoh in 1995 and was consolidated with Ricoh's Lanier division in 2007.
Any printer that is branded as Gestetner is probably quite old, but you may have luck checking on support for such a device (as well as availability of a PostScript option) by contacting Lanier.  Copiers, Printers, and Document Solutions from Lanier.

  • Support for Old Vibrating Sample Magnetometers

    Hello.
I am a relative newcomer to LabView and I am trying to get some support for a few older Vibrating Sample Magnetometers (VSM) on behalf of my employer.  These machines are quite old and, although they have GPIB connectivity, I am having difficulty in being able to control them using LabView.  Although they use the IEEE-488 GPIB standard, they were built before the introduction of the Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI), rather than the newer 488.2 standard.  As such, they work with their own proprietary commands, which are proving impossible to find.  I have a working LabView program that was written by a university student for a master's degree in physics.  However, I cannot communicate with the individual components, such as the gaussmeter, power supply, etc, using measurement and automation explorer.  They don't even respond to an "*IDN?" query without timing out, which I thought was standard.  I have tried lengthening the timeout time and tried to use drivers for similar instruments.  My question to anyone out there is, do you have the drivers or the programming manual for any of the components listed below?  The Vibrating Sample Magnetometers were built by the now defunct DMS/ADE.  The current owners of DMS/ADE can offer little support for such old equipment.  Likewise, is there something else I can try in lieu of these drivers and commands?
Devices:  1.) DMS Model 1660 VSM, 2.) DMS/ADE VSM Model 4, which includes the DMS/ADE model 32KP gaussmeter with its own GPIB port.
    Thank you for your time,
    Liam

    Hi Liam,
As per GPIB 488.2, as I already mentioned, the ibEOSchar under Ibconfig is an 8 bit value so it will take value from 0 to 255 for which 3 number width is sufficient. Measurement and Automation Explorer also works in the same way. EOS byte value under Termination Settings section of GPIB settings accepts a decimal number from 0 to 255 and it will not allow any character and also value more than 255 as its field is limited to 3 numbers and even if you enter a value more than 255, it will be automatically changes to 255.
So, As per 488.2, You cannot give both carriage return and linefeed characters together and you cannot use the same in MAX also.
Try framing your entire command with EOS as per built in LabVIEW carriage return and linefeed functions and use GPIB Write.vi to send this entire frame. It may work.
Also, I would like to see your VSM's communication manual and understand how these commands have been implemented.
Coming to IBEOS command, its easily understandable and its used to Configure the end-of-string (EOS) termination mode or character. It have low byte and high byte.
Low byte is always an 8 bit EOS character and high byte can take three forms which are A, B and C. Also High byte can have values with combination of A,B or C.
For Example, ibeos (ud, 0x140A); means, Configure the software to end reads on newline character (hex 0A) for the unit descriptor. Here high byte is a combination of A and C where as low byte is the HEX equivalent of ASCII Line feed character.

  • Canon MP560 prints wirelessly ok but scanner is not recognized

Something is going on with the latest Mac OS. Seems to be only with Intel Macs only.Image capture does not recognize either scanner I have.(Canoscan 8400F also).
I see others have broken connections other than Canon also.
Has Apple given an official release about this problem? Some have workarounds that are at programming level, but i'm not going anywhere near that fix. And Twain Sane isn't much of a fix as it doesn't give full capability of scanning like the original program used to run the scanner.I don't want to go through a whole number of steps to get it to work.I don't have Photoshop to make a workaround.
Here is what my friend had to do to get his new and old one to work:
"I am okay now, as I have the older CS3 Photoshop now sitting next to the CS4 version, and I've got the older one running in Rosetta compatibility mode and this lets me run the Canon scanner driver in full 16 bit colour mode. If I only wanted 8 bit colour files, I could just use the Canon utility but for working with restorations of old images, you want 16 bit greyscale (for old B&W pictures) or 16 bit colour mode."

In order to use Image Capture for scanning via USB from either Canon device you may need to update the Canon ICA drivers included with Snow Leopard. The Canon v1.5.1 update can be downloaded via the following link.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100213301.html
This will update the Canon IJScanner1 package located within the core Image Capture > Devices folder.
For the wireless connected MP560 I don't believe Image Capture can be used. But you can use Preview or even the MP560 Scanner queue in Print & Fax. You will need to install the Canon MP560 scanner driver listed below.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100204302.html
With regards to using Preview, to see the networked scanner you will have to click on File > Import from Scanner > Included Networked Devices. Then when you click on File > Import from Scanner again, the MP560 should be shown as an available device.
Has Apple given an official release about this problem?
I don't believe there is a known problem with OS X 10.6.4 Image Capture so therefore I would say there is no official release from Apple.
Some have workarounds that are at programming level, but i'm not going anywhere near that fix.
I would suggest that the workaround you have seen, especially at a programming level, would be meant for older models of scanners that have no official support from the vendor. But this is not needed for your scanners as Canon has provided drivers that function correctly on 10.6 for the majority of their scanners and AIO's.
And Twain Sane isn't much of a fix as it doesn't give full capability of scanning like the original program used to run the scanner.
There is no need to SANE. The following link is the Canon provided scanner driver for your CS8400F.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900334701.htm
I don't want to go through a whole number of steps to get it to work.I don't have Photoshop to make a workaround.
Like SANE, Photoshop is not needed. I am scanning over a wireless network at home with my new MP990 using the Canon MP990 scanner queue without a problem.
And my LiDE200 connected via USB to my Mac works fine also.

  • Develop software for connecting to creative zen touch and other devices not recognized by wind

    hi there,
as a programmer i wonder, is it possible to obtain information of how to connect to usb-connected creative device (which is not recognized automatically by windows, as the zen touch) and how to communicate with it's is there any documentation about that available to "non-creative" ;-) developers?
the idea is to create a plugin (e.g. for musikcube) that enables the programm to access the files on the device.
i know there are third party companies that do provide software for connecting to e.g. zen touch, but i do not think that they have figured out every little bit by themselves, have they?
    greetings and thanks a lot

    Try this:
Download <a href='http://www.delldjsite.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=444' target=_blank>this[/url] file. Extract it to whatever folder you like. Inside that folder run the file fixup.cmd. A DOS window will open up and start display messages on what its doing, when its done it will instruct you to remove the device from Device Manager and reconnect it.
Try this and see if it works.

  • Need to Know:  Support for HP P1006 Printer in Snow Leopard

Hi: Anyone out there using a P1006 printer on Snowleopard?
Just bought a new iMac. I have a chance to pick up an HP P1006 printer at a great price, but am unsure if driver support is built into snow leopard or if I must go to HP to download. I checked HP's site and they are very vague about the specific Mac operating systems they support with this printer model. I looked on Apple's doc pages and it was unclear whether the driver is already on snow leopard or I must download it. I'd love to know before I spend the money.
Thanks for your help! I truly appreciate any advice you can throw my way.

  • DOS PCMCIA support for old Compaq Armada 1571DM

    Hi there,
I have recently purchased an old Compaq Armada 1571DM for a project I'm currently in, which requires both portability and the availability of a couple of COM (serial) ports. The laptop comes with a single serial port, so I thought to add the second one I need via a PCMCIA to serial card adapter. So I purchased one of these too.
The problem I faced is that the software I use to access the serial ports runs on DOS only, and as far as I could find on the internet, there seems to be no DOS driver/card enabler for this particular laptop.
I'll very much preciate your help, as I'm stuck on this issue for a long time now, and I really need to make it work.
    Thank you very much.
    Best regards.
PS.: under Windows 98 everything seems to work: PCMCIA sockets are detected, and PCMCIA adapter is properly recognized and installed thru its provided drivers.

    Hi:
You may also want to post your question on the HP Business Support Forum -- Armada notebook section.

  • What types of files do HP printers natively support for wireless/bluetooth printing?

I've been trying to find this information, but digging it out of the HP Support Pages is daunting...
What are all the file types that HP wireless-enabled printers can support, without having to have some sort of driver/rip?  Since you can stick media cards directly into many printers, the printing driver/support must reside in the printer itself, so I'm assuming that simply transferring files to an HP wireless-enabled printer will cause them to print, ala the HP iPrint iPhone app.  But, other than the native iPhone image format, what is the full list of types of images/files that can be printed directly to the printers?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Great question, Mark!
We support several formats in our printers.  *Note, depending on the model, some formats may not be supported.  If you want a model that supports ALL formats mentioned look for a PhotoSmart Premium branded model like our new line in hpshopping.com with Bluetooth and Wireless Networking capability.
    Now for the formats:
    For iPhone:
    -Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif)
    -JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg)
    -Portable Network Graphics (*.png)
    -Device Independent Bitmap (*.bmp)
    -Tag Image File Format (*.tif)
    -Windows Metafile (*.wmf)
    -Enhanced Metafile (*.emf)
      For Sybian OS models:
    Graphics Interchange Format (*.gif)
    -JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg)
    -Portable Network Graphics (*.png)
    -Device Independent Bitmap (*.bmp)
    -Windows Metafile (*.wmf)
The above formats would be used when printing over wireless (wireless N, G, A - depending on radios in phone and access point)
For printing via Bluetooth, and UPnP/DLNA we use an xhtml-print standard to support the following:
    Image Format:
-JPEG File Interchange Format (*.jpg) -Portable Network Graphics (*.png)
    Document formats:
     XHTML-Print.
    Standard Text

  • End of support for old Solaris releases

I searched the web site, but I couldn't find when Sun will stop supporting older releases (i.e. Solaris 2.6).
Can anyone tell me how I can find out?

Another procedure that has worked well for me over the years.
    Go to Sun's web page.
    http://www,sun.com
In the top corner of the web page, there is a search area.
Put in keyword eosl (for "end of support life").
The search results will bring up most every topic related
to Sun's philosophies and policies on the subject. More than you'd ever choose to read.
As an example, there were more than 225 search results today.
    http://onesearch.sun.com/search/onesearch/index.jsp?qt=eosl&charset=UTF-8
Keyword eol (for "end of life") is also a valid search word,
but produces more than 1500 search results.
