HP Client WinPE Driver Packs and MDT 2013

Just today I noticed that HP had a couple of WinPE driver Packs for download on their site for WinPE 3.0 and 4.0. I'm using MDT 2013 to deploy Win 7 x64 for now, perhaps Win 8.1 out in the future. What version of WinPE does MDT make for Boot Images? Which
driver pack would be best for MDT 2013 and Win 7 deployment? WinPE 3.0?

  • DomainOUList.xml and MDT 2013

Having issues using DomainOUList.xml with MDT 2013 it worked fine with MDT 2012 U1. Is there something else I must do?
If this post is helpful please click "Mark for answer", thanks! Kind regards

I don't think that the DomainOUList.xml changed much between MDT 2012 U1 and MDT 2013 (or between MDT 2008 and MDT 2010, and MDT 2012 for that matter).
IF you did an upgrade from a previous version of MDT, watch out, some of the script files may be out of sync. Try a new share to be sure.

    Keith,
I agree with you, as the process should work the same. I was using the DomianOuList.xml successfuly in a MDT 2012 U1 with WAIK envirorment, and then performed a upgrade to MDT 2013 with ADK. I have created a new deploymentshare and I am still getting the
same error. Just like in the past here is the DomianOuList.xml.

  • Installing Windows ADK and MDT 2013 without Internet

    Hi
    I have Windows 8.1 Update 64 bit
    on a computer without Internet.
I would like to install Windows ADK
and MDT 2013. What's the proper procedure to
    do this?
    Thanks
    Bye
    Balubeto

You need to download the pieces from an internet-connected machine.  They can they be copied (USB or whatever) to any machine, even those without an internet connection, to do an installation.
To get the necessary ADK pieces, download ADKSETUP.EXE and run it on the internet-connected machine.  It will offer an option to download all the rest of the ADK pieces (make sure you select the right components) into a folder you specify.
The MDT installation is a single MSI file.

  • Task sequence fails after upgrading to 2012 R2 and MDT 2013

After upgrading to 2012 R2, my task sequence fails after the Setup Windows and ConfigMGR & Restart Computer. Instead of continuing to run the task sequence and load up the MDT Toolkit Package, it just stops at the Windows 7 login screen.
Do I need to create new toolkit & settings packages with MDT 2013 settings? Or do I just need to create a new task sequence?
I can't figure out what log to look at on the VM that I am imaging. If someone can point it out maybe there's some useful information. Thanks.
    My task sequence

It sounds a lot like that it could be failing at the client installation. Please take a look at the client installation logs.

Here are the log files from c:\windows\ccmsetup\logs .. I took a glance and things run with success 0 which should mean no error right? The system also has the client installed with the CU2 patch.
    Client Logs
Searched a bit online and people are saying it's due to the incorrect boot image. I was using a WinPE 5.0 I created on this TS but I'm going to make another and see where it goes.
    This was the solution.

  • Task seqence according to departments in a company and MDT 2013

    Hi,
I have a problem and I need help from the SCCM community.
    So here we go:
I am in a process of upgrading SCCM from 2007 to 2012, great. I have setup lab environment which consists of 2 DC, 1 DB server, 1 SCCM 2012 Server and 2 test clients (Windows 7).
My question is about planning and design of the task sequence for various departments in our company. I have no idea how to approach it or how to implement it. Right now we use HTA script.
The idea is to deploy a set of applications like Skype, acrobat, 7-zip to all windows 7 clients, and then based on what I choose in MDT(this is the actual procedure which we use in 2007):
…have other applications which are specific to the chosen department.
I want to move away from the hta script in SCCM 2012 but I have no idea how to do it. Only thing that I know it MIGHT work would be to make MDT 2013 TS user driven OS deployment TS.
    This drags another questions:
Is there anywhere on the internet a guide for this? Youtube or something that I was not able to find.
Would that mean that I would have many Task Sequences?
By that I mean for example.
    “Deploy Windows 7 – QA”
    “Deploy Windows 7 – DEV”
    “Deploy Windows 7 – IT”
    “Deploy Windows 7 – CS”
    “Deploy Windows 7 – PM”
And if I have windows 8.1 which I will that would mean too many TSs displayed I want to avoid that and have only 1 for windows 7 and 1 for windows 8.1 clients. I want to make a TS which deploys applications according
to what I choose in UDI Wizard Designer (Am I right? Is that being made in UDI?).
I would love to see a solution like this:
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi,
I am a bit stuck on the following...
I have created a custom UDI page called Gather data for OSD but i am not sure if I am doing a good job with variables:
I want to enter a name for the computer and for TS to of course give a name that I want to the computer.
I also would like to choose departments because then i can deploy different applications with different departments. I am basically trying to recreate the procedure written in my first post but without HTA:
Am I on the right path or?
    Thanks,

  • SCCM 2012 R2 With MDT 2012 AND MDT 2013 Side by Side

Currently we're running 2012 R2 CU3 with MDT 2012 integrated into it. We're looking at upgrading to MDT 2013 (whatever the latest update is). What I'm wondering, and can't seem to find any information on, is if we can continue to use our MDT 2012 boot
.wims/OSD Task Sequences/etc  until such time as we create and test new ones or are we going to have to update everything right away?

Are you sure you are using MDT *2013* with ConfigMgr 2012 *R2*? That's not a supported configuration and I think there are multiple technical problems with this combination.
The task sequences themselves don't change -- because they are ConfigMgr task sequences -- but the MDT tasks must be updated to use the MDT 2013 tasks. Boot image use is partially dependent upon the OS you are deploying however only WinPE 3.1 and WinPE 5.0
based boot images are supported in R2.
    Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | @jasonsandys
Did you mean to ask if we were running MDT 2012 with ConfigMgr 2012 R2? Then yes we are. We did the upgrade from SP1 CU2 to R2 CU3 a couple of weeks ago but haven't upgraded MDT to 2013 yet. That's our next step but we also don't want to take down/break imaging
capability if we can help it (major college, staff/students constantly breaking stuff, etc).

  • T410, T420 driver pack for MDT deployment

Is there a page where I can get the MDT driver pack for the T410 and T420 models?  The current page (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=SCCM-INDEX) Does not have drivers for the anything older than a T430.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi BDS_Vince, welcome to the forums,
    Lenovo's first SCCM packs were first released for the T430 and other Think systems current at that time, please see following linked to thread;
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Enterprise-Management-IT/Introducing-ThinkPad-Driver-Packs-for-SCCM/m-p/...
As suggested on page 2 of that thread you could maybe use Update Retriever as an alternative method to manage drivers for older systems.

  • Windows ADK and MDT 2013 components

    Hi
I noticed that Windows ADK is
installed in its 32 bit version even though I have
    Windows 8.1 Update 64 bit.
    It is correct?
    Then, I installed MDT 2013
    64 bit.
Now, where can I find a detailed description
about the components of this MDT?
Having to customize, deploy and create some
    DVDs of Windows 8.1 Update
    32/64 bit, what components
    should I download?
    Thanks
    Bye
    Balubeto

Yes, there are some weird historical reasons why the AIK goes to "\Program Files (x86)" and MDT goes to "\Program Files". Don't over think it too much, yes it's confusing.
Some recommendations (what I install on my machine):
Your deployment Server box should be running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 or Server 2012 x64.
You should be deploying only Windows 7 or newer (Windows 8.1) or Server 2008 R2  or newer (2012)
    Use the latest AIK
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39982 the ADK is platform agnostic, it will install on x86 or x64, but of course your server should only be x64
    Install the latest MDT 2013
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40796 x64 version.
MDT documentation *.chm is in the MDT install directory.
AIK documentation  *.chm is in the ADK install directories.

  • Automating driver selection in MDT 2013

I have been working with MDT for a couple of months now, and I am really getting stucked on a problem. I wish to automate wich drivers to install for a spesific model.
we have  mostly HP machines, but also Lenovo. I have tried to set drivergroup and %make%\%model%, but cant make it right. Is there something in the CS.ini? I have no clue anymore...
    All help will be appreciated

    Hi Espen,
An alternative is to use selection profiles which will target drivers with the selection profile based on the result of WMI query.
Please see the following link, which will tell you exactly what to do.
    http://adminnexus.blogspot.nl/2012/08/yet-another-approach-to-driver.html
This is will work for sure, since it uses the result of a WMI query to pass or skip the "Inject Drivers" step. So if the following query, matches the result it will execute the injection of the drivers of this particular step:
    SELECT * FROM Win32_ComputerSystem WHERE Model LIKE "%Probook 6560b%"
So on every machine, you need to execute the following query in a command prompt:
"wmic computersystem get model" the result of this query can be used as input for the WMI - Model.
    Good luck!

  • SCCM 2012 and MDT 2013 PreFlight Checks

    Hi,
Can anyone help me with a preflight check in MDT (Winpe) checking for an Active Directory Computer account. By default the pre-flight is before the page which has the field for entering the computer name. If I was to move the page later in the wizard sequence
would I be able to use the variable OSDComputerName. Additional does anyone have any Powershell or vscript code which could query AD for the computer account existence?
As I'll need to authenticate with AD I could use the variables OSDJoinAccount, OSDJoinPassword, OSDDomainName.

  • MDT 2013 Keyboard and mouse not working

I am imaging some older model Acers (Veriton N281G) via USB bootable drive and MDT 2013.  In this model in particular; the keyboard and mouse does not work once the Wizard box pops up.  The BIOS does indeed recognize it and I'm able to select the
USB bootable drive, but unable to move the mouse or use the keyboard once the wizard appears. All other models including HP and Lenovo work without any issues.
I've tried different keyboards/mice including PS2 and 2 different KVM's.  I have a separate folder in the Out-of-Box Drivers folder for this particular model and I've imported numerous usb drivers as well as taken them all out and tried without success.
    I've tried LiteTouchPE_x64 and x86.
Any suggestions?  Unfortunately, we have many of these Acers in our Exam rooms with Windows XP and I'm needing to upgrade them ASAP.  If it were up to me, I would just replace them all...

Very weird, I can't tell if this is a PC problem or a driver issue, and if a driver issue, which driver. Which USB controller? which keyboard?
You don't mention which WinPE version you are using. I would move between the WAIK 3.1 and ADK 8.1 to see which one works/does not work.
Additionally, I would try booting directly from a Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 install disk (Make USB bootable, and copy the install *.iso contents to the drive).

  • MDT 2013 won't capture 8.1 image, does not boot to PE to capture

I am doing this with Server 2012 R2 and MDT 2013, and the reference machines are VMs
I initially created a deployment share for creating windows 7 and windows 8.1 reference images and capturing and deployment worked ok. After getting into some more details i customized the deployment share customsettings  to make things easier and created
a separate capture share for capturing new reference images. I updated permissions on the share so my service account has access to it.
In this share i imported the windows 8.1 os files and copied the sysprep and capture task sequence i used to capture my first reference image [from the original deployment share], but when running the task sequence it reboots and just goes back into windows,
instead of windows PE to capture the image.
I copied a windows 7 capture sequence to the capture share, imported the windows 7 files and updated the task, and it rebooted into PE without a problem and copied an image. so I don't believe I have any permissions/customsettings problems with the new share.
Im not seeing any errors jump out at me in the bdd.log but I'm new-ish to going over the logs and using MDT to start with so I may be missing the obvious. I am using SMS trace and dont see any red/yellow highlites either.
In windows 7 i did have the vm in audit mode when i mapped the share as an admin and started the task sequence. In windows 8.1 i am not in audit mode [after doing some research and learning more about using MDT it did not seem necessary]
After comparing a run of the windows 7 task to windows 8 i see the boot.wim copied to the win 7 vm, but i dont see it on the win 8 vm. There is a partition created, i cant see data in it when i show hidden files.

    Thanks for your reply.
The pc is not in the domain when i run litetouch. It was joined after install, then i run some local gpos/scripts against it, install all of the shared printers from servers, then i put it back in a workgroup, login as the local administrator, delete the
domain profiles and guids in the registry, briefly connected back to a domain server [not with a mapped drive] to copy a couple of files, rebooted into the local admin account an ran litetouch.
After running litetouch.wsf the first time in the windows 8.1 pro vm [no changes, but manual connection] it rebooted without sysprepping or taking an image
I deleted the task sequence and created another one with "sysprep and capture" as the sequence.  i made no changes to the task sequence. did all of the above, ran litetouch, and it just reboots. sysprep does not run and windows pe does not load.
if i run sysprep and boot into audit mode [as a test, since my windows 7 vm snapshot was in audit mode when it runs litetouch.wsf], then run litetouch, sysprep works, then it DID capture an image, but after that image was capture and the VM rebooted, i got
this error when loading windows 8
"windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation" and if i hit ok it will reboot and error out again.
Haven't had any issues with that VM until now.
I reverted to my snapshot and just ran sysprep oobe w/ generalize to see how it would react
it failed, setuperr.log shows SYSPRP failed to remove apps for the current user. some searching gives me information on that and makes me think its related to adding/deleting user profiles? i dont actually use or update the apps at all, i have a deploy task
that removed most of them and customizes the start screen and those seem to work without issue.
found this as my reference: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2769827/en-nz
Sysprep has an additional provider that is added in Windows 8 to clean appx packages and generalize the image. The provider will only work if the Appx package is a per-user package or an all-user provisioned package.
    and
    Resolution
The correct way of removing the package is to remove the package for the user running sysprep and also remove the provisioning. This can be done using the following Powershell cmdlets:
    Import-Module Appx
    Import-Module Dism
    Get-AppxPackage -AllUser | Where PublisherId -eq 8wekyb3d8bbwe | Format-List -Property PackageFullName,PackageUserInformation
if i run that i get a lot of
    [unknown user]: installed
Do I just need to revise my process and start from scratch? or at least just never actually join the domain and user other profiles? thats a convenience thing so its not a big deal, really.
I have an image made in a similar way that works, but doesnt have quite all the updates/changes i wanted. It captured [at the time] fine and installs without issue
Heres an overview of what I do [i am open to some revisions on this]
-deploy windows 8 base install from MDT
-join domain, login with service account [just makes getting to some things easier]
-install office 2010 pro plus w/ sp2 [i do understand that these can be set as an MDT app but the install takes a while and i dont like waiting on it if i dont have to]
-install windows updates [no WSUs server currently, on my future to-do list, not my decision right now and i do understand the benefits of having one]
-connect to servers and install all network printers [we have so many that i dont want to wait on the drivers when we do a big roll out soon]
-install oracle software [i can get it to automate in windows 7, not 8, so i dont want to manually deal with it post-install]
-install adobe reader/java [i do understand that these can be set as an MDT app]
-leave domain, reboot, login as local admin
    -clean domain profiles/registry guids
-make some local gpoedits [we dont have 8.1 enterprise and just want the start screen locked down]
    -install our AV network agent
    -lite touch.
    any advice is appreciated
