HP Color LaserJet CP1217 is not detected by PC

Hi
I have a HP Color LaserJet CP1217 which I am trying to connect by USB to a new computer running Windows 8.
When I first plugged the printer in the drivers were automatically detected and downloaded, and the printer was working.
I then moved the printer to a different PC for another printing job. Also worked fine.
When I brought the printer back to the new computer, the printing jobs were just getting stuck in the queue with an undescriptive error message.
I tried various combinations of restarting the PC, uninstalling drivers, re-installing drivers, updating drivers, turning printer on and off, using the HP print and scan doctor.
Using the HP print and scan doctor I am getting a message that the printer is not connected - though the USB cable is plugged in. I have tried different USB ports and a different USB wire but still the pc will not detect the printer.
These same cables work fine when I try the printer with another computer so it is obviously some other issue.
As the printer is more than five years old HP will not help over the phone. They recommend we buy a new one. But this one was working a few days ago!
Help please.

Hi
Yes other USB devices work (USB drive, keyboard etc).
Initially there was an error in the printing dialogue box but just said "error" with no other details.
Since un-installing drivers and re-installing, no printer is detected, only the printer driver. The printer is on and plugged in. When I go to devices and printers and run 'add printer' command it does a search and comes up with nothing.
Running windows 8.1, 64 bit.

The 2605dn has dual Network and USB connectivity. Which are you attempting to configure: Network or attached USB?
Printer on, and if networked, use a static IP address
    Print & Scan
    IP
    Provide printer static IP address
Select Printer Software ... HP Color LaserJet 2605dn driver (not sure about that 2600 driver)
    Add
Configure Driver under Options and Supplies
I have a 1994 HP Laserjet 4m Plus set up using these steps and the appropriate driver. I just added another network printer, using the same IP address, but using the above 2605dn driver without any issue other than complaint about a redundant IP address.
Hopefully, you have already sorted this out.

  • HP Color LaserJet CP1520nw will not connect to network (time out repeatedly)

My HP LaserJet CP1520nw won't connet to my wireless router upon installation, no many how many times I've been asked to connect it to the computer via a USB printer cable.   I uninstalled and reinstalled all software, and each time I try to set it up for wireless connectivity by connecting my computer and the printer via a USB printer cable, it gets to 99%  installed on the progress bar and sits there until it times out.  I suspect one of the follow but am open to other ideas from those more knowledgeable:
    1.  Is the printer locked onto some old, initial configuration from a previous wireless network that needs to be purged of addresses, etc. before it can accept the new ones?
    2.  Could my WPA WPA2 PSK AES encrytion be messing it up?  Are the modern firmware and updates designed to accept these ?  I never have gotten to a screen where it asks for my encyption key or even a WPS pass phrase.  What to do if so?
    3.  Could Church Lady be correct and that it is Satan preventing the installation?  If so, what icons does he use to watch out for and will my Norton anti-virus and malware quarantine him to Hell automatically or does it require manual enforcement?

    Hi @Marvalina1968,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Color LaserJet CP1520nw will not connect to network with Windows 7. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
    First to answer your questions:
It is possible the printer could be locked to an old configuration and needs to be reset.
I don't think your WPA WPA2 PSK AES encrytion could be messing it up, unless you got some really strange characters in your password.
Your Norton antivirus, could possible be causing the installation to fail.
Please take a look through the following guides:
'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the HP Printer Will Not Print.
Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
If the guides do not resolve the issue, please try the following:
Uninstall the software. Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Clean boot the computer. How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Disable any antivirus programs. Disable antivirus software.
Disable any firewall programs. Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
Re-install the software. HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver.
Hope this solves your problem, and have a good day!

  • HP color laserjet CP2025 will not print. Help.

I have a HP color laserjet CP2025, but it will not print. I installed the driver HP Color LaserJet CP2020 Series PCL 6. I have a Windows Vista Home Premium. There is a message to replace the cyan cartridge, but I assume if the printer has black ink, then it'll print in black and white. Do I need to replace the cyan cartiridge for it to print? What other options can I try to troubleshoot?
    Thank you.

  • HP Color LaserJet 1600 does not work

Hi, I purchased a HP Color LaserJet 1600, it is said/written that the printer will work for Windows and Mac. Am running the MacBookAir with Leopard, it doesn't work, even the CD to install the driver my hard drive doesn't accept, I also can't download a driver from the net, does anybody know what to do? Thx in advance, MariaT.

Here's a link to the UK support site, I think you can get live help from here - but according to the HP website, the printer you just bought is an old model that has been discontinued, and I can't see any Mac drivers for it either.....
But it's puzzling that your computer won't read the CD....a quick browse through other HP Laserjet discussions in these forums gives me the impression that HP gives no support to Mac users and that other people have been having trouble with other HP models.
Maybe you've been swindled. Maybe you should demand a refund.

  • HP Color LaserJet CP2025 Will Not Print in Color

I switched to black print only when I ran out of the color yellow. At $124.00 a pop at any outlet it was more than I could afford. After six months I had enough money to buy the cartridage but now the printer won't print color. The test page prints in color but nothing sent from my HP computer prints in color. What do I need to do? The options for "devices," printer are so sparse I don't know what to do. What a crappy deal for the consumer.

USB-Parallel converters can be problematic.  The models listed in posts flagged here have been verified by users to work with 64 bit Windows 7.

  • HG282DJ scalable barcode font card in HP Laserjet 400 M401dn not detected

Hello, We have recently bought an HP laserjet 400 M401dn. We quickly realized this printer did not print any barcodes so we purchased an HG282DJ scalable barcode DIMM card. Unfortunately, after installing it in the printer and testing it, it still did not print the barcodes. I have installed it the way it showed me on the HP installation process. (shut down the printer, unplug all cables from the printer, plug the DIMM card, replug cables and turn on the printer). It then suggested me to print a PCL Font List which, unfortunately, did not include the barcodes font list. I then connected directly on the printer's web interface on the Home tab - config page where it says "DIMM 1"...it shows "Empty" is the card faulty or do I need to install an additional software for this to work? I thought this was pretty much Plug-And-Play. Thank you.

Hi, Is your firmware update for HP Laserjet 400 M401dn compatible with M401a, we are still having the same issue regarding barcode printing , and I can't find where to download the firmware update for our HP Laserjet 400 M401a.  My printer's Firmware Datecode is 20140521.  Any help from you will very much appreciated. Thanks and regards

  • HP Color LaserJet 3600(not 3600n) with Fast Ethernet port - can I use it?

Hello! There is a HP Color LaserJet 3600 in our company connected via USB with XP-based PC. Recently I decided that we need this printer be shared directly trough our ethernet network, so I started to learn manuals - its own manual, Jet Direct, and all that stuff. The printer's manual says that HP Color Laserjet 3600 does not have neither its own ethernet port, nor support for embedded print-server like JetDirect 620n.
    But!
Visual check  shows that this HP 3600 DOES have its own ethernet port and if I connect it to network or at least to a notebook - it blinks like any other ethernet port with "lights" should do.
    However.
Neither front panel, nor back panel says anything about network support(like letter "n" in model name).
Configuration page print also does not know about that mysterious port.
    So my questions are:
    1. What is this port actually?
    2. Can I use it to share printer over network? Maybe, there is a way to upload 3600n's firmware somehow?

The product you have seems to be a commercial printer. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!
You may find the Commercial Laserjet board here.

  • HP Color LaserJet 9500 Duplexing - does not work

It seems that Leopard has some major issues with Duplexing. I see quite a number of posts on this topic for a variety of printers.
I have found that the HP Color LaserJet 9500 does not duplex from Leopard. It worked fine before the upgrade.
I verified that the Duplexing option is selected in the driver's installable options.
When i choose "two sided" from the print dialog box, it prints as one sided instead.

No, in this case I am printing straight to JetDirect.
However, here's the weird thing. It is now working sporadically. What I find curious is that there are two duplexing settings. One in General settings, marked "two sided", and one in Layout, where you can choose short edge, long edge, or no duplexing. I wonder if there is some weird interaction here. In any case, this is not well documented. There was never a "two sided" option in 10.4.

  • HP Color LaserJet 5550 and Tiger (10.4.11) Driver Problem

I have recently acquired a Color LaserJet 5550hdn. I have updated all drivers and firmware available from the HP Website (Printer Driver, 5550 firmware and Jetdirect 610n firmware). The printer has been factory reset/cold reset etc. to purge any previous custom settings. I am using a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver (933mhz) and Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11). I have made some test prints from both Preview and iPhoto and all have been dark and muddy with respect to colors. I have printed the same images from my wife's PC with HP's PCL 6 Driver for Windows XP and achieve satisfactory results with respect to color (that is to say, without fooling with any color settings in the driver, the image is at least within 10% of the color gamut compared to the screen image). Setting up the printer with the HP Postscript Driver for XP yields similar results as the Mac, dark and muddy colors. So is this a problem with the HP Postscript Driver? Is this a Mac OS X Tiger problem? Do users have color problems with the printer running the Leopard driver?
I previously owned a HP Color LaserJet 8550 (utilizing the same HP Driver for Mac OS X that the 5550 uses) and had default images (no fooling with any color settings in the driver) that were acceptable, again within 10% or less of the screen image color gamut.
I have also downloaded HP's ICC color profiles (CMYK and sRGB) and put them in library/printers/hp/profiles.
With respect to the driver itself, there are two areas in the print dialogue box which seem to have a bearing on color. One is Colorsync and the other is Color Options. Colorsync has two choices ('Standard' and 'In Printer') and I chose 'In Printer' to I assume bypass any Colorsync Conversion. When 'Standard' is chosen the print summary shows the HP Color LaserJet CMYK profile being used. There seems to be no way of changing the default setting in the Colorsync Utility to HP Color LaserJet sRGB. Not sure if it matters as the output for both 'Standard' and 'In Printer' seem to yield the same results. The options under 'Color Options" in the driver under the 'Show Advanced Options' have choices (Basic, Text, Graphics, Photographs, Advanced) and I have played with these to some extent. Although they seem to have some effect on the image, the print is still dark and muddy with respect to colors.
On a final note I have tried a 'GutenPrint' driver to see if it would yield different results.....there was not one for the 5550 so I used a driver for the Color LaserJet 5500......it would only print in grayscale....the resulting image did not look very promising even if it had printed in color.
Insights on any of the above from the community here would be most helpful!
    Thanks,
    -Ray

This is an update to my own post above. I downloaded the Mac OS 9 driver (yes OS 9!, but the QuickSilver is Dual Boot) for the Color LaerJet 5550 and printed (no changes to any of the driver settings) the same image (photo) as I used in Mac OS X. The image was still dark but not as poor from Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger). Although I prefer not to use color management, I used the Colorsync tab in the driver and chose to match to Colorsync with a generic sRGB output profile (no other settings were changed in the HP color options tab). The resulting image was +/- 5% within the color gamut of the screen image (yeah!!!) In Tiger the options under the Colorsync tab in the driver are 'Standard' or 'In Device' and regardless of the choice, the print result is the same, very dark and muted colors. There is no option for sRGB and if set to 'Standard' the print summary always shows a CMYK profile being utilized. Given that the HP Color LaserJet 5550 is an sRGB printer as per HP, perhaps that is a problem? I would assume the 'In Device' option would bypass Colorsync (since there seems to be no other way to turn it off) and use sRGB, but that does not seem to make a difference in the image being printed.
My good success with an OS 9 driver leads me to believe I have a driver problem in Tiger. However, I have no problems with other printers (HP All in One, DesignJet Color Plotter and wide format Epson inkjet....all of which are older) with respect to poor color output. Given this is a current model in the HP line-up and I believe in service during Mac OS X Tiger, it seems hard to fathom other users do/did not experience a problem.
Again, do Leopard users have a problem with color issues on this printer with default driver settings? Does anyone have driver settings/other insights they could share with respect to Tiger to at least get the print image somewaht close to the screen image? As it stands now, regardless of settings, the printed image is dark with muted colors.
Thnaks to anyone who can respond, even if it is to say they have no problems in Leopard/Snow Leopard as I am upgrading to a new Mac soon.

  • HP Color LaserJet 3600 series (VISE Installer)

    Hi everyone,
I made the mistake of using the VISE Installer that HP suggests as a download for the HP Color LaserJet 3600 series printer. I installed it, and then couldn't figure out why I still couldn't see this printer driver. After reading http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303057#hpdrivers and learning that the "driver" included for the Color LaserJet 3600 is not a "Modern Driver", I realized that installing the VISE installer from HP does me no good.
    Now, I have two questions:
    1) How can I uninstall this stuff that HP crammed onto my system? The VISE Installer seems like its a blast from the pre-OS X past, and doesn't appear to offer any sort of uninstallation. Do I need to write up a shell/AppleScript to read the log it writes to my / and remove the files manually? (I'd rather not do that, but I will if I have to).
    2) Is there a PPD that anyone knows of for this printer? I'd like to be able to print to it over our network, and I need a "Modern driver" (i.e. PPD) to do that.
    Thanks dudes!
    MacBook Pro 15.4"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

To get a modern driver, you'll have to install a few open source packages. Try hpijs and ESP ghostscript from here:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
(I think you have to use the 3500 model choice/PPD).
If that doesn't work, you'll have to compile the driver:

  • Color LaserJet CP3505x missing yellow when printing

On of our two Color LaserJet CP3505x does not print yellow. The other 3505x prints CMYK just fine. Maybe the Easter bunny stole all the yellow. Jokes aside, I've tried a brand new toner cartridge (Q7582A) but no sigar. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

There are a couple of reasons that could be happening. It could have something to do with the connection, or perhaps the program you're printing from. Try to go to the link I'm including below and follow the steps there, and hopefully this will help you resolve your issue.
