HP color laserjet printer on a networked windows xp Machine

printer, I have an hp color laser jet connected to a computer on my in house wireless network. How do i tel my imac to use it. I just bought this imac and I am new to apple. I would really appreciate any advice I could get to get the mac to print.
printer: HP color laserjet 1600 (connected to the xp computer)
Computer: Windows running XP up to date
Network: Cisco router wireless network

You will need to turn on Sharing on both computers and specifically printer sharing. I would recommend you contact AppleCare (phone number is in your owners manual) and may be able to help you. Remember they are Apple Techs so there is a good chance they're not trained on MS Windows. I'd recommend Googling something like Printer sharing Windows XP.
For example I found this link:

  • How do I install my color laserjet 2605 dn on my windows vista laptop.

I have been using an HP Color Laserjet 2605 dn on my aging Windows XP computer.  Now that the system is becoming unreliable, I purchased a new HP desktop with Windows 7.  My printer is not compatible with Win7, so my other option is to use it on my HP laptop with Win Vista.
According to what I have read,  this printer should be Windows Vista compatible.  However, when I try to install the software, I keep getting an error message that I need to be logged on as administrator or I can choose "run as administrator" or something like that.  I followed all those steps, and cannot get past this error message.  And, I AM logged on as administrator.
What can I do to get this software installed and use the printer again?  It prints wonderfully, does everything I want, including automatic duplex printing.
    Thanks for any help.

I have tried to install my HP color laserjet 2605 dn on my windows 7 operating system and I get an administrator error

  • Color Laserjet prints extra pages on startup

I just bought a CP1518ni color laserjet printer and installed it.  It works fine except that whenever I restart my computer, the printer prints 3 extra pages.  Each has a single B&W line with gibberish printed at the top.  I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the printer but the symptoms remain the same.
    I am running Windows XP.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • HP Color Laserjet Printer 2605dn

All of a sudden my printer (HP Color Laserjet Printer 2605dn) won't print reds.  I checked the magenta cartridge and it says it has toner left.  Doubting that, I bought a new magenta cartridge and it didn't help the situation....still no reds.  I installed new printer drivers....no fix.  All of the other colors work.  Do I need to throw away this printer?

    Hello
it is good to check if you have the latest FW installed: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18...

  • Could a Color LaserJet Printer use / print to Photo Paper?

Hello HP Support,      Well as you notice I have quite a few questions, since store representative say yes to everything and barely even know the answer. My Question here is I have alot i mean alot close to 1,000 sheets of HP Photo paper from a few year and decade back wasa good sale and just came across them recently hidden back in my HP Demo Day i presented. ** Anyways would like to know if i can use this HP Photo paper in my m276nw? Also do HP Color LaserJet printer normally handle and work with HP Media products so, if i buy another printer in which I'm searching around for another AIO would hope to do everything.  I have Premium, Matte, Glossy & Glossy Brochure Photo paper - HP Makes many types of Photo paper could i use these?  Since it does not state Laser or Inkjet on the box. Of course I'll reach out incase i have another question Thanks www.iOSGenius.com

Opps -  So I find many Iron-on Transfer Media but states Inkjet will this work for Color LaserJet ? or is there a media for Laser products? Thanks Again, www.iOSGenius.com

  • Problem with HP 3600n Color Laserjet Printer and new HP Notebook Running 64 bit Win7

I have a new HP notebook (dv7t-6100) with Core-i7 Processor, running 64 bit Windows 7 with all of the latest updates.
I also have a 27" iMac with Core-i7 Processor running 64 bit Windows 7 underneath Parallels 7. Parallels is a program that creates a virtual machine underneath Mac OSX.
Both versions of 64 bit Windows 7 work perfectly . . . EXCEPT, neither will print from my HP 3600n Color Laserjet. The iMac will print to the 3600n in OSX mode, and an earlier version of 32 bit Windows 7 under Parallels printed perfectly with this 3600n printer.
These facts prove that the printer is OK, the connection is OK. However, the 64 bit Windows 7 systems do not print.
In both of the 64 bit Windows 7 installs I allowed Windows to find and download the HP driver for this printer. Install of the driver was apparently successful. Still no printing.
One strange fact: Sometimes when I turn the computer off, the 3600n printer will print the items that had been in the queue before powering down. That is the only time it has printed anything . . . except under OSX on the iMac.
Does anyone know if there is a basic problem with 64 bit Windows 7 and this printer ?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I just had the same problem with my MacBook Pro using 10.5.5 After trying a number of things, the following worked. (not sure what specifically ... just did this combination)
    1. Had the Apple store Genius Bar folks install the latest HP drivers.
    2. Restart computer
    3. Restart the HP Color LaserJet 3600
    4. Connected the HP printer and MacBook Pro directly into a switch, so the wireless was not an issue (both machines had IP addresses set and computer's was set to DHCP with manual IP).
    5. Instead of using the System Preference printing and fax tool, I started Text Edit, typed something and said "print".
Print window came up and said "no printer selected"
    6. I clicked on the drop down so it would look for printers.
    7. It found the HP Color LaserJet 3600.
    8. I clicked on the name of the printer and the computer went out and found the driver
    9. I clicked on "Add" and it added the printer.
    10. I tried a couple of test prints in different programs.
    11. I disconnected the hard wired ethernet cables and set the computer to be on the wireless.
    12. I printed a few more test prints in various programs.
I had previously tried selecting the printer and drivers through the System Preferences to no avail, but doing it this way worked.
    Blessings

  • Cleaning the guts of an HP B & W or Color LaserJet Printer

    Hi:
I currently have an HP4M LaserJet printer...it appears to have "died" after 20 years.
I have had to do meticulous internal cleaning of it in the past, when I toner cartridge would go bad, dumping toner into the printer.  With brushes, lint free cloths, etc, you could clean the inside of the printer, after removing a few items; e.g., the paper feed roller mechanisms, the fuse roller, etc.  The 4M's HP User's Manual showed how to do this.  If you take time to do it properly, ...and this usually requires several hours to do...you will end up with crisp clean printouts...no excess toner-speckling on the printouts.
I am considering replacing the 4M with one of the following HP Laser Printers.
    HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer (B & W)
    HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer (B & W)
    HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401n Printer (B & W)
    HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dne Printer (B & W)
HP laserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251nw (Color)
Am I correct that B & W is not striclty Black or White but also includes Gray-Scale like the 4M did ?
The P1102 appears to have the same (or similar) toner cartridge mechanism that the 4M did.
When you rermove it, you can see the gear mechanisms, etc....not yet sure about the fuse roller.
The Pro 400 printers look very much like the 4M externally, but I do not yet know about the internals.
The M251nw is a different animal.
It has a metal slide-out tray that holds 4 toner cartridges which appear to be "rectanglular" in shape.
Can this tray be  removed by the user (for cleaning) if a cartridge dumps toner into the printer ?
Is the fuse roller accessible to the user for removal and cleaning ?
I have looked through the M251's User Manual, and this level of cleaning is not covered.
It only covers "cleaning" like an inkjet does for cleaning the printheads.
Somehow, I would think that the user should have access to the guts of the printer,
since a Tech Support person would also have to disassemble the printer for cleaning.
if this information exist, where do I find it ?
    Thank you
    DaleBr

Colors are great because they provide you with color.  But the cost of ownership is a lot higher because now you have 4 color toner cartridges.  With the cost of toner cartridges hovering around US$130 each, you are looking at a cost of at least $520 in toner replacement costs.  Granted you won't be using all the toner across the whole page but if you print photos or images, it will deplete quickly.  Plus with 4 toner cartridges inside, the cartridges are fairly small.
Cost per prints for black and white hovers around 1 to 4 cents per copy.  Color prints cost around 8 to 17 cents per copy. But I read somewhere from someone worker for a company selling the toner it can cost up to 30 to 75 cents per copy for a full page of color.
So in a nutshell, it's very expensive to have color.

  • HP Color Laserjet printer stopped working after 10.4.10 upgrade

I upgraded other night to 10.4.10 and I'm now unable to print to my USB connected HP Color Laserjet 3500 printer. Anyone have any idea what might be the cause and how to fix it?
FYI, I already tried reinstalling the driver and fix the permission but no luck.

  • HP Color Laserjet Printer 2840

My HP Laserjet 2840 will only print on the right 1/4th of the page.  I installed a new imaging drum but the problem still exists. There are no error messages.  This problem occurs when printing from the computer or when printing a test demo page directly from the printer.  Any ideas?

    Hello Alaskeving,
The Color Laserjet 2840 is a commercial printer. I recommend posting in the forum for HP Business Support for a better chance at finding a solution.

  • Printing on a shared printer on a network Windows PC

I've successfully located and added a Brother HL-1030 laser printer attached to Windows PC on my Linksys network. When I added it, Generic printer driver was selected. Brother doesn't have a Mac driver for my model on its site.
The problem is that whenever I print a document, no matter how many pages, the printer spits out 5 or so blank pages. Does anyone else have this problem or knows of a solution? Is it the driver?
    Thanks.

It sounds like the printing system is having a problem loading one of the files it uses during normal operation.  You can open the Console application (/Applications/Utilities).  On the left side of the window, you should see a list of logs.  If not, click the show logs icon at the top left of the window.  Navigate (you may need to click several disclosure triangles) down to /var/log/cups/error_log.  Are there any messages of note in the error_log?  It should be leaving a lot of messages about what sort of trouble it is having.  The most common errors in cases like yours are that it cannot read the configuration file of the printers.conf file.

  • Problem Printing to a Networked Windows 7 Printer Since Upgrading to 10.6.2

I have my macbook pro networked to a PC (running windows 7) and have had no problems sharing files and printing from the Mac to the PC connected printer (Epson CX 8400) until I updated Snow Leopard to 10.6.2. I can still connect to the network and share files, but a can no longer print. When I print from the Mac, the job stalls. The printer utility gives the following message "on hold (authentication required)". I do not have a password set up on the PC or the printer. I have no problem printing from a XP laptop connected to the network. I have updated the printer driver ,deleted and re-installed the printer. If I connect the printer directly to the Mac, it prints OK. Any suggestions?

An updated driver was posted to the Apple Software Update on 12/15. Run the Software Update and it should automatically update your driver.
    Hope this helps,

  • Problems installing HP Color LaserJet 5550 on Airport network

I've been trying to install my dad's HP CLJ 5550 on our home network for ages.
*This is some background story, skip to the last bit if you don’t feel like reading*
Some months ago, everything was fine and dandy. We had a network consisting of:
    The modem from our ISP
The switch from our ISP (I think that's what it was)
    1 Airport Express 802.11n
    2 Airport Express 802.11b/g
The 802.11n AE was connected to the ISP switch with a standard CAT5 ethernet cable, and that was in turn connected to the modem, and was transmitting the signal to the two other AE's, one connected to our printer with an ethernet cable, the other connected to our home stereo for AirTunes.
Then came the day when our ISP sent us a new modem, this time a wireless router/modem hybrid.
I got rid of the switch and modem and replaced them with the upgrade.
Furthermore, the new ISP router had WiFi built-in so naturally I wanted to take advantage of that, but in the end we ended up having 2 seperate networks, one transmitted by the ISP router and one transmitted by the 802.11n AE (which is connected to the ISP router w/ ethernet cable) to the other AE's.
The ISP router network had great internet performance whatsoever, but I couldn't get the printer and AirTunes working.
The AE network had very shaky internet performance but the network seemed very stable and served AirTunes and wireless printing.
After some time I tried merging the 2 networks, by setting the AEs to join the current network that the ISP router was transmitting. It kinda worked, but we lost all printing.
The printer is crucial to my dad so I suggested getting an AEBS so he bought that.
Now I've set the network up and it consists of:
    1 AEBS (802.11n)
1 AE connected to the printer with an ethernet cable.
2 AEs connected to 2 different stereos.
1 ISP router (but this time I've disabled the WiFi!)
The AEBS creates the network, gets its internet connection from the ISP router, and is extended by the 3 AEs. Very fast, stable and AirTunes performs great... But the printer.
I’ve set the printer to TCP/IP and manual config.
The IP adress I’ve set to 192.168.1.150 (in line with the rest of the network)
Subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0 since that’s what Airport Utility says.
Gateway Adress is set to 192.168.1.1 which I guess is the ISP router? I don’t know. It’s just what Airport Util says. Should it be the AEBS’s adress?
Are there things that I need to disable on printer? On the network? On my computer? Enable? Something? Aaaaargh..
I get nothing from pinging the IP-adress. Back in the golden days it used to recognize it as an HP printer it even checked ink levels and so forth.. Now I can’t even ping.
I’ve tried changing every parameter I can think of.. Adding it as LPD, IPP and HP JetDirect Socket.. (but since I can’t even ping what would I get from changing that?)
That turned out a wee bit longer than I expected...

The Firewalls are disabled and from my laptop you can view all of the shared
Folders on the Desktop with the CP1215 attached via USB.
When I issue the print from my laptop that is on the same network, you see the
print file show up in the CP1215 print queue of the Desktop the CP1215
is USB attached to and then disappears about 15 seconds later.  Here is
how it appears on in the Desktop CP1215 Print Queue before it disappears
Doc Name            Status      Owner     Pages    Size            Submitted            Port
    E-mail print           Printing      Guest          1      547 KB     2:00pm 08/26/09      USB003
I've also download/installed the latest drivers.  When I reinstall the CP1215 on my laptop from
the Desktop, the "PRINT TEST PAGE works from the Laptop but then all print commands after
    that do not work.
I see from my Google search I'm not the only one having this problem
ANY IDEAS what to try next?
    Wes

    To summarise:

    2) go to device settings and under installable options --> duplex change "not installed" to "installed" and press OK

  • Is a networked Windows XP machine without Internet access safe/secure?

Going forward, can a networked, domain-member Windows XP computer be considered "safe" as long as it does not have Internet access?  Patches are current, and current antivirus.

Yes and No. Reason being exploits are still developed that can harm XP machines. Since MS is no longer supporting this operating system patches to cover those exploits will not likely be developed. These exploits can be carried out through the local area
network and infect an un-patched machines. Now on to the aspect of 'Yes'...
Good antivirus, and a firewall on the machine can make a lot of difference even internal to the network, local USB drives and exploits on the net.
Best policy is to keep machines as up to date as you can even if that means upgrading operating systems unfortunately.

  • Networking color laserjet 3800 printer with Windows 7 OS

I have a color laserjet 3800 that is networked in an office of 5 computers using Windows XP pro OS.  I just purchased a HP pavilion Slimline Windows 7 64 bit OS computer.  The networking and printer networking set up was a breeze until it came to connecting the 3800.  I have downloaded the PCL 5, 6 and universal drivers.  When I go to add printer as a network printer and choose the 3800 it gives an error of not being able to find a driver.  I tried to manually find the driver but it does not find a match in PCL 5, 6 or universal driver.  The link below clearly shows the 3800 to be compatible with windows 7, but I cannot get it work.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=HP%20Col...
The network absolutely sees the printer and lets it be chosen but does not let it get installed on the windows 7 machine.
