HP com.hp.print.psdriver.HPPrintSettings update crashes mail.app and keynote

Question

Its 2012 and I can't print.
This is what gives the offending error.

I've fixed it now so they probably arent useful but if you need anything you can email me direct at angusf at mac dot com.
The Mac is a 15in Late 2008 with 4GB ram.
Steps to fix:
I deleted the printer from system prefs
I removed /Library/Printers/hp
I re-downloaded the driver just in case it changed (it hadn't)
rebooted my Mac
Installed the driver from the disk image
Added the printer from the 'nearby' list
Printed from mail.app successfully
