HP Compaq 8100 Elite, HP Support Assistant freezes

Each time i start HP Support Assistant it freezes and closes

Hi,
I would suggest uninstalling your current version of HPSA - open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP Support Assistant and select uninstall.  When this has completed, restart the PC then download and install the latest version from the page on the link below.
http://h18021.www1.hp.com/helpandsupport/hp-support-assistant.html
The relevant download option are towards the botton of the page.  After you have completed the installation, restart the PC again.

I have a hp compaq 8100 elite with a built in intel HD graphics card. I want to know to know if i can change my graphics card to a nvidia graphics card.

    Hi,
Review page 2-3 in the Technical Reference Manual.
If you have the SFF model then you are limited to a 25 watt PCI-E x16 graphics card.  You might be able to squeeze a litlle higher wattage from the slot but the 240 watt PSU will limit your choices. You will need a low profile card.
If you have the CMT model then you are limited to a 75 watt PCI-E x16 graphics card.
Do not buy a graphics card that is rated only for UEFI PCs.
Know what the return policy is before you buy.

No. It has nothing to do with warranty status. It will work even if the warranty has expired. The only thing that must be available is updates for your notebook.
Uninstall the current verfsion of HP Support Assistant that is on your notebook.
You can download the operating system appropriate version for your notebook at the following web document.

  • I keep getting a (false) notification from HP Support Assistant: low disk space on C drive?

Hi, this morning upon starting up my computer the magnifying glass was hovering over the HP Support Assistant icon and usually that means it is checking for updates etc... but I noticed it turned into a yellow exclamation mark so I clicked on it and opened up HP Support Assistant. The exclamation mark was now in the "updates and tune-ups" and said there were "recommended messages available." Upon clicking this the exclamation is now on the HP messages tab and upon clicking that I am taken to a notification that says: "Low Disk Space on Primary Drive C:" So I click on it to find out more information and it says that I am running out of free disk space on my C drive and that I need to perform a disk cleanup etc...
I went to My Computer to see just how in jeopardy I was in of running out of space on my C drive. To my amazement it stated that I still had 1.27 TB of 1.35 TB available and have only used 6% of my space...
I tried emptying my recycle bin, clearing my cache, doing an actual disk cleanup, and restarting to no avail, the magnifying glass comes back after restart and the notification returns telling me that I am low on disk space in the C drive...
I have come to the conclusion that this must be a false notification but I have no idea how to get rid of it...it isn't a huge issue as it doesn't impair my usage on the computer, however, it is kind of annoying to keep seeing this notification...
Is there any way to get rid of this notification?

    Hello @blackrosevain,
I understand that you are getting the 'Low Disc Space' error message on your HP Pavilion Elite h8-1010t Desktop PC running Windows 7. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Error: Low Disk Space. You are running out of disk space on Recovery (Windows 7), which addresses the error you are getting and has the steps needed to fix it.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Home Office Network Software Challenges - Post HP Support Assistant Update

    Hi
I have an existing home office network setup on an HP Officejet 7410 with assistance from 'Dean' at the end of 2009 / early 2010.
Essentially I have a relatively new HP Compaq 6000 Pro MT Windows 7 32 bit main desktop connected by ethernet  to a Netgear DG834GT router, a wirelessly connected Vista Business 32 bit laptop I use when in London and a secondary wirelessly connected family XP Pro Desktop.
All has been running smoothly until fairly recent HP Support Assistant updates for the main desktop - this has caused the HP all in one not to function and corrupted the HP Support Assistant software.  I have tried uninstalling the HP 7410 software and have had to use Revo Uninstaller on a medium setting to remove some stubborn programme elements.
I am now unable to reinstall using the Full HP Software suite but have managed to get the printer part working using the basic HP driver download.
Can anyone provide assistance as to how to get back my computer and printer functionality ?
I did try contacting HP support but as it is an old printer they will not provide support (without considerable charge) despite being related to their own HP update software on my somewhat newer (but again out of warranty) Win 7 main desktop.
If I can not solve this problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the software I will be forced to consider a new printer (for which I will get support)  but currently the most likely candidate is going to be a move to Epson which would be a shame after over 15 years of sticking with HP.
I look forward to hearing of any possible solutions but please let me know if you need any further info from my end.

Sorry to hear you also have a similar issue.  I tried every thing I knew but unfortunately due to the lack of support I gave up ,and ended up purchasing a new printer from a competitor after 15 years of using HP printers.  It was a great shame as HP had always been the leading choice for me as a small business.

  • HP Compaq 8000 Elite power supply upgarde

I have a 2010 HP Compaq 8000 Elite and need to upgrade the power supply in order to run my new Radeon HD 6850 Graphics card. After much research i found that this particular computer's motherboard does not have a normal 20-pin or 24-pin power supply but instead uses 2 separate 4-pin connections for the PWR and PWRCPU supplies and a third cable which i believe to be an ancient and outdated 6 pin auxiliary power cable (http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#aux) for the PWRCMD supply. I Also found that all power is run through the motherboard to each separate piece of hardware in the computer and therefor most likely has a limit for the max power supply possible. Is there some sort of power supply that will both fit in the PSU slot (which is not the standard PSU size, but instead measures about 6" x 5.75" x 3.75") and will also be able to connect to and supply enough power to the mother board?!? Or am i stuck with a lousy 320W??? Please Help!!!

    Maverickv2,
You will not be able to upgrade that PSU, model # 508154-001. It is not possible with those connectors. The most absurd item was that the hardware (drives) actually are powered off the motherboard. (Just like you said).

  • Setting up compaq 8200 elite

I have 2 questions that seem that they may be basic to someone. I just purchased a Compaq 8200 Elite Convertable Minitower from a used computer store -- a place that cleans up discarded computers and resells them.  I also got a used monitor from the same place.  Both were working in the store.
    Quetion 1:
I am having trouble getting this new computer to turn on.  I try to connect it using my old keyboard, mouse, internet DSL router and cirtuit breaker but the monitor says 'no signal'. I tried to set it up with my old monitor and again it says 'no signall' -- so I know that it is not an issue with the new monitor. Additionally, I have noticed that only one of the little green lights right below the power button on the tower illuminiates when I push the power button.  Could it be that I am not connecting the various cords to the right sockets on the tower eventhough they seem like the same type?  (There are multiple sockets for some of the cord types)  My circuit breaker is about 7 years old -- maybe that's a problem?  Any other ideas?
    Question 2:
I want to insert a 4 gig RAM memory stick into this tower to give it more ram. I see that there are 3 empty ports for this - 2 are white and one is black. Does it matter which port I put the new memory stick in?

  • Pavilion dv7 blue screening - HP support assistant cannot test BIOS or memory modules but BIOS can?

About a month ago my dv7 started doing something strange - during normal use (not gaming, just word processing, showing a powerpoint presentation, showing a video on youtube, etc.) the cooling fan speed would suddenly ramp up to jet-engine speed and shortly thereafter the computer would blue screen, crash dump, etc. (no, I did not write down any info from the blue screen message - I will do so next time). Having experienced a blue screen issue with a Dell laptop I thought the hard drive was going bad, because about the same time I was suddenly unable to run a backup of the hard drive. After several attempts, I was finally able to backup the hard drive, and then replaced it with a new drive, re-installed OS with my recovery flash drive, worked through all of the windows updates that were recommended, and thought everything would be good to go. Now I have no problems backing up hard drive, etc. Then on day 2, after only a few hours of use, the cooling fan speed suddenly ramped up again and the blue screen returned.
A friend who is a tech suggested running HP diagnostics on everything, so I rebooted, hit F2, and started by testing the hard drive; as expected, no problems there. I next tried to test the memory (8192 MB total in two modules), and the test failed. I also tried testing the BIOS, and that too failed. The HP diagnostics reported that it couldn't even read the BIOS. Hmmm, strange. So I re-booted, hit F10, and went into the BIOS (BIOS date 10/5/11, revision F.1B). I HAVE NOT IN ANY WAY MODIFIED THE BIOS - I'm good, but not that good. Via the BIOS test utility, I tested both memory modules independently and then together, and everything checked out fine. I also tried switching modules between slots and re-tested via the BIOS utility, and that too checked out. I then returned to the HP diagnostics utility and tried re-testing the memory (both modules together - failed, one module at a time - both failed, in both slots).
HP tech experts, can you give me any guidance? This has been a great machine for me, I have taken good care of it, and am hoping to get a few more years out of it (I'm a middle-school science teacher, can't afford another one at this point). If I can't find a fix, I may have to go back to using my antique overhead projector in my classroom...

    Hi @h20roks ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7 and  getting the BSOD and shutting down. I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Not rollback.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that could need updating.
    Hope this helps you.

  • HP Support Assistant (Win 7 x64): Error 1316 on update/install

HP Support Assistant was running and downloaded an update for itself, which doesn't install properly. I am left with shortcuts that no longer work - HSPA.exe is missing.
I went direct to HP site, downloaded HSPA latest version, and tried to install.
I get toward the end of the instal...
    Then get this error:
    Then HSPA unintalls itself...
Then I get a final Windows error:
I have tried a System Restore, but it doesn't work (no restore point early enough).
Can you help me fix this problem?
(Unlike some other posts, I really LIKE HSPA and want to keep using it.)
I am using Win 7 Ultimate x64 on an Envy 1104-tx.
    Please help!!

Unfortunately, it doesn't fix the problem because now it won't install via Control Panel:
I select the HPSA and ask to uninstall:
I get the message that it's preparing to remove...
Then it "crashes" with the same error as before:
Now what should I do? I would really like to get HPSA working again.

  • Hp support assistant has stopped working windows 8

My HP Support Assistant has stopped working. I have read other comments on the forum concerning this problem and attempted to follow their advice. But I am still having the same problem. I uninstalled the HP support in the Control Panel uninstall programs. I restarted  my computer then reinstalled the HP support. When installing it asked if I wanted to write over all of the files because HP files were still on my computer. Apparently it did not fully uninstall. I emptied my recycle bin and cleaned out my registry after I tried to uninstall the HP file again. Went back and reinstalled HP support again. This time I did not get the message that it was already installed and do I want to overwrite the files. I thought that the problem was solved but it is not. I cannot get the HP support to work at all. Please can anyone tell me what to do. I am not very savvy with computers and sure use some help.

For some unknown reason, HP Support Assistant has stopped working. I noticed that the large taskbar icon was gone.
I tried to run the program just out of curiousity. "HP Support Assistant has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly ..." etc. This is reproduceable. The program will not start.
So, I tried to uninstall it from Control Panel. It appears to start to uninstall, but then I get an error message. "Error 1316 A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\windows\Installer\HP Support Assistant.msi" When I click "OK" it rolls back. This is also reproduceable.
I have tried downloading the software again from HP: sp64126.exe I accept the license agreement and proceed. I get a message that files already exist and do I want to overwrite them all or not. INo matter what I choose, nothing happens. The installation window simply disappears and I am back to square one.

  • HP Pavilion g7 can't find or re-install HP Support Assistant & HP Solution Center

After a week or so ago, I discovered my printer could no longer scan. Made several (& I mean several) attempts at following the instructions to install the full driver for my HP Photosmart C7180 printer.
I then ordered the full drive CD for Window 7 (64) from HP and I am still having problems.
After going around and around trying to get it to work; uninstalling and re-installing everything listed in the Support & Downloads on the HP website. I discovered both my HP Support Assistant and my HP Solution Center are no longer on my computer. They won't re-install either following the instructions per HP Support & Download on HP's website.
I have no clue how to get things straightened out.
The most frustrating thing is there seems to be many other people with printer/scan problems even with other printers. Everything I have read so far as a solution to their problems is the same thing I have been trying to do.
