  • Setting up compaq 8200 elite

I have 2 questions that seem that they may be basic to someone. I just purchased a Compaq 8200 Elite Convertable Minitower from a used computer store -- a place that cleans up discarded computers and resells them.  I also got a used monitor from the same place.  Both were working in the store.
    Quetion 1:
I am having trouble getting this new computer to turn on.  I try to connect it using my old keyboard, mouse, internet DSL router and cirtuit breaker but the monitor says 'no signal'. I tried to set it up with my old monitor and again it says 'no signall' -- so I know that it is not an issue with the new monitor. Additionally, I have noticed that only one of the little green lights right below the power button on the tower illuminiates when I push the power button.  Could it be that I am not connecting the various cords to the right sockets on the tower eventhough they seem like the same type?  (There are multiple sockets for some of the cord types)  My circuit breaker is about 7 years old -- maybe that's a problem?  Any other ideas?
    Question 2:
I want to insert a 4 gig RAM memory stick into this tower to give it more ram. I see that there are 3 empty ports for this - 2 are white and one is black. Does it matter which port I put the new memory stick in?

  • Compaq CQ56-115DX Recalled Power Supply & Dead Motherboard

    Hello,
We currently have a Compaq CQ56-115DX in our shop that we are diagnosing. Currently the computer turns on and sits at a black screen while the caps lock light blinks repeatedly. Upon further research we have found that it may have an issue with the bios. We are unable to get anywhere past that black screen so we cannot update the bios. We have tried pulling the CMOS battery and letting it sit for a bit in hopes that it might reset the bios. Unfortunately that didn't work. We believe the motherboard is bad. Looking at the support page for more resources I saw that there was a recall on the power supply for this machine. I went through the confirmation pages and the adapter is one of the affected models. Is there a possibility that the power supply could have caused the motherboard issue?
    Thanks,
         ST

It is actually a recall on the cord from the power supply brick to the wall plug, not the brick itself. If that goes bad you just get no power at all so the power supply is not the likely culprit. Is there any evidence of melting or arcing on the power supply at the place where the wall cord plugs into the brick? Does it put out power to specs? I would agree with your motherboard diagnosis, by the way.

  • Do the 8200 elite CMT motherboard SATA ports support SATA port multipliers?

I have an HP-Compaq 8200 elite CMT. I'd like to expand my SATA connection capacity using a SATA port multiplier. Specfications for most of them indicate they work only with motherboards that support the SATA PM / port multiplier feature. Does my motherboard support PM?
    Thanks!

    Paul,
You have one of the models.
Most Intel PCs that I have come across don't support SATA port multipliers except for MACs.

  • HP Compaq 8000 Elite power supply upgarde

I have a 2010 HP Compaq 8000 Elite and need to upgrade the power supply in order to run my new Radeon HD 6850 Graphics card. After much research i found that this particular computer's motherboard does not have a normal 20-pin or 24-pin power supply but instead uses 2 separate 4-pin connections for the PWR and PWRCPU supplies and a third cable which i believe to be an ancient and outdated 6 pin auxiliary power cable (http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#aux) for the PWRCMD supply. I Also found that all power is run through the motherboard to each separate piece of hardware in the computer and therefor most likely has a limit for the max power supply possible. Is there some sort of power supply that will both fit in the PSU slot (which is not the standard PSU size, but instead measures about 6" x 5.75" x 3.75") and will also be able to connect to and supply enough power to the mother board?!? Or am i stuck with a lousy 320W??? Please Help!!!

    Maverickv2,
You will not be able to upgrade that PSU, model # 508154-001. It is not possible with those connectors. The most absurd item was that the hardware (drives) actually are powered off the motherboard. (Just like you said).

  • Do I need to replace video graphic card or power supply unit on hp compaq presario sr2180nx

    hello all
i saw a similar post over 4 years ago, however it doesn't address my issue.
my pc started stalling when i attempt to turn it on.  It wouldn't come on. Then after several tries every now and then it would come on. I was told through searching that it could be the video graphic card or the power supply. Therefore once i had the computer back on.  I never shut it off. However, i could reboot and it would come on.
Now it won't come on again. So i don't know what to replace. The video graphic card or the power supply.  If it is the graphic card, do i replace the one previously installed or add a new one. And if adding a new one, what is recommended to be compatible with my 300 watt supply unit? I'm lost as what route to take and how.Below are the details of my unit.
HP/Compaq Presario SR2180NX desktop PC with a P5LP-LE motherboard with an Integrated graphics using Intel GMA 950.
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
Also supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards
    300 watt supply.
thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Is there an add-in video card in the slot? If so, remove it and try to turn on. If the problem is the video card it will turn on. If not it is the power supply.

  • I need help to replace my power supply for the hp pavilion elite m9510f

This computer has given me many problems since I bought it in '09. From graphic card fan issues, a hard drive crash, and now the power supply has failed.
I did the blow dryer trick but it still ends up breaking a week later. I want to know what new power supply should I buy. One that will be able to fit in the hp pavilion elite m9510f and is an upgrade to the 350w that it has. Maybe somthing under 60-70 dollars if possible. Thanks for any help.

It appears to be a normal case and motherboard.  A normal ATX supply should work: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=50001333&IsNodeId=1&Description=Computer...
Just an example of what is availble, but most any should work as long the physical dimensions match the one installed now.

  • Is there any way to change the power supply on a hp elite 8100 sff

hello . Is there any way to upgrade the power supply from the  standerd 240W psu . the pc is a hp elite 8100 sff ( quad i7 2.8ghz nvidia quadro 295 nvs and 8 gb ram )

    Joleney-
I do not know of any way to turn off the Sleep button.  If yours does not work, there might be an internal problem like a loose connection in the iPad.
One thing you can try is to hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow if it appears.  If successful, the iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.
If the Apple logo never appears, it is likely your Sleep button is bad.  If the iPad is still in warranty, show it to an Apple Store Genius.  You may get a replacement iPad if the Genius can not fix it.
If the iPad is out of warranty or there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center near you.  There may be one in your city.  If out of warranty, the cost of a repair would most likely be less than Apple's replacement price.  <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>

  • New power supply and graphic card for Compaq CQ3232L

    Hi all,
I am using Compaq CQ3232L and would like to upgrade the graphic card with one of the HD 5770, Sapphire HD 5770 Vapor-X 1Gb 128Bit DDR5 to be exact.
My current power supply (Bestec Model ATX01...) specs are:
    +12V/11A, peak 13A
    +5V/10A, +3.3V/10A,
    -12V/0.3A, 180W according the manual.
I've been looking a replacement for the power supply but not sure which one will fit the case? And how much power will be need to run the Sapphire card and future upgrade (Blu-Ray drive and another HDD)?
    Regards,
    Eko

WSH, besides measuring the PSU, you should assure that there is sufficient space for the video card.  Open the case.  Measure from the edge of the case to the opposite side of the motherboard where the PCIE slot is located.  This is the approximate length of the card that will fit.
Also, I like OCZ and Corsair PSU's.  They are both enthusiast/gamer manufacturers.  Their products will provide clean, stable power for your system.

I hit the turn-on button one morning and nothing happened.  Looked in the case and was running except the case fan.  No lights were on.  I tested the power supply and it tested good.  Tried again - nothing.  Connected a new power supply and tried again; Lights worked and cpu fan worked, but no attempt at boot.
I have disconnected everything - same result.
Does this sound like a bad ASUS mortherboard?

Heather, the PSU for the first gen G5 iMacs and the ALS models are the same physical size, but the ALS PSU is an auto-switching 110-220v model. Nice to have, but not the cause of the problem if it is working correctly.
Is your first gen one of those effected by the Repair Extension Program? If so, you actually have 2 years on problems related to the PSU and video.
Give Apple a call back and see if they have any suggestions, but don't let them put you off as you are still within the warrantee.

  • Elite e9150t - upgrading coolingfan/heatsink and power supply (suggestions for upgrade?)

    Hey guys,
I don't know why I didn't come here first, but here I am.
Basically, I have the HP elite e9150t model. Great computer... I've already upgraded a few things, but I am looking to do another little upgrade and would love to get some input. It's also Windows 8.1 Pro.
Alright, I've upgraded the ram to two 8gb kingston chips. I've also upgraded the video card to a GeForce 660 GTX. Now I am looking to upgrade my power supply and cooling unit. I've been running into problems where my computer will start to overheat when playing games. I can render out things easily enough with 3D software like Maya, but games make the system chug. That's why I've decided to upgrade the cooling unit and figured I should do the same for my power supply as well since it still has the 460w unit. I'd love to get this ugpraded to the point that I can play games with high settings and not worry about my computer dying on me from heat related injuries. I'm not looking to play games like Watch Dogs at the highest setting. I'd LOVE to have that, but I doubt I could squeeze that out right now. I would, however, love to play a game like Wildstar on their ultra setting (which I feel should be doable with my system).
Also, I am pretty much ignorant when it comes to computer hardware. When I say this, I am not exaggerating. I really have no idea what I am doing when it comes to this part of computers. Here are the two items that were suggested to me. Keep in mind, that I am on a budget right now (starting a new job next week after graduating this past week), so this is about what I can afford (this ~price range). I've also added a fan to the side panel of the computer (well I didn't, but the guy I bought it from did).
    First is the power supply:
XFX TS Series P1550SXXB9 550W ATX12V 2.2 & ESP12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Active PFC Power Supply
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013
550 Watt for ~$25 after rebate. Can't beat that and the people that recommended it were saying that it's made by a great company (SeaSonic?)
    And the cooling unit:
Cooler Master Hyper T4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103182&cm_re=Cooler_Master_Hyper_T4-_-35-10...
It was actually suggested I get the TX3, but I saw that the TX3 does not support LGA 1336 that the HP has.
    1) Case size: I've tried googling what type of case I have because it seems like that is the jelly to any peanut butter question on power supplies and/or cooling units. Will my suggested items fit in the case I have? It looks like a tight fit in there, so I don't know how well they'll fit.
    2) Are the recommended items good: Again, I don't know anything about this stuff and am going purely off recommendations. Are these the items that I do need?
    3) Another thing bugging me about the video card: Not exactly on topic, but I have the GeForce card in there right now and it's huge. I also have a sound card, but the way the PCI slots are setup, I have to put the sound card directly over the GeForce card (and the Geforce card has a fan on top of it blowing up). This has the heat blowing directly to the sound card. I don't know if this is what I want to do? I read somewhere that I want the video card closest to the heatsink? Could I reverse the order and have the sound card below the video card and still get away with it? It's a nice sound card and it's being wasted right now (not even in the computer).
Alright, thanks guys. I know I wrote a **bleep** essay here, but I wanted to be detailed as possible. Thanks again for those that stuck through the whole thing lol...

    Hi,
I suggest that you do some measuring from the top of the processor to bottom of the removable side panel. You need this measurement to determine if your chosen heat sink cooling  will fit.
When you install the new power supply then install it fan up pointing to top so that is draws cool air into the power supply from the top side air intake vents.  Measure your existing power supply and look for a high efficiency model with a large fan that will fit in your PC.  If you can find a PSU with a 140 mm fan that will fit then go for it.
Additional cooling ideas: PCI slot cooling fan and vented PCI slot covers.
Your particular PC probably has a single width graphics just link my e9280t (same cabinet and mobo).
BTW--the truckee mobo is not spec'd for 8 GB dimms.
You have made lots of changes already to your PC so  saying that you know very little appears to be underestimating your own ablities.

  • Compaq Presario Cq1-2025. Do These Have A Power Supply?

Have one of these that just stopped powering on.  I get a little green light in the back, but no sounds or beeps or images.  On a regular desktop computer I'd just replace the power supply and I'd be good to go, but I don't think these have a separate PS, and are more like an overgrown laptop, with a chunk of the mobo dedicated to providing the power.
Is this a candidate for the local recycling bin?
