HP dc7900 Versions/HDD

Hi. I own a HP dc7900sff computer. The problem is i am missing M3 screws which hold primary HDD in place. Apart from HDD being a little loose, can i install the HDD without those screws ?
Also i noticed multiple dc7900sff computers with the same hardware specs, however the little stickers on those machines varied. Some were "windows vista certified" others "windows 7". Why is that ?
Thanks.

Hi: The dc7900 model series came out toward the end of Windows Vista mainstream use and ran during Windows 7's introduction. So, the older dc7900's came with Windows Vista and the later models came with W7. I would order the antivibration hard drive screws you need on eBay, otherwise you will have to jury rig the mounting of the HDD. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=dc7900+hard+drive+screws&_sop=15

  • Adding SSD to MBP?

I want to buy a new MBP (15", 2.2 GHz model) for University.
I wish to put an SSD in it, for performance and durability.  After some reading online, I found that Intel's SSDs generally have higher reliability (at least, in the tests I saw) than Toshiba's (which I believe Apple uses), so I wish to get a 320-Series Intel X25-M SSD, likely at 160 GB.
Before I make the purchases, though, I have a few questions:
    1) How difficult is it to install an SSD at home, replacing the built-in HDD?  If it is difficult, could I get it installed at the Apple Store?
    2) Is there a defined standard for laptop disk size/connections?  Is there some specific identifier I need to look for to ensure that the SSD I purchase will work with an MBP?
    3) Would it be advisable to use only an SSD and no HDD?  (I've heard horror stories about SSDs crashing.  Obviously, I back up files, but it'd still be a massive pain to have to replace a drive and restore a backup.)
    4) Does TRIM support make a significant difference in terms of performance? Should I wait for Lion to bring TRIM to Intel drives, or get a drive direct from Apple that already supports TRIM with Snow Leopard?
    Thanks very much in advance!

There are a lot of messages in this forum on that matter of the SSD.
If you buy the MBP 2011 from Apple with the ssd option, you will have the MBP with a SSD (probably Samsung) WITH TRIM SUPPORT (in Mac OS10.6.7).
If you want to buy the cheapest version HDD in it and replace the HDD for a SSD afterwards, it is simple to do that, The best way is to buy with OWC: they deliver with tools and good instructions. Also the MBP Manual gives instructions to do that; also iFixit has good instructions. Good SSD with Trim support are Crucial, Vertex, Mercury, etc.
If you do not want to reinstal OS after installation, have an external holder (like Icy Box) to put your SSD in before installing it and clone the actual HDD to the SSD; then build it in.
If Trim support is not done automatically (check with System Profiler), you can do it easily with the program Trim Enabler (which hacks the IOAHCIFamily.kext file).

  • Maximum audio tracks per recording

How many audio tracks can be recorded together in one recording session?
    I use a Macbook Pro 2012 Version
    HDD      500GB 5400rpm
    RAM      4GB

Yeah, you're not going to get anywhere close to that using your 5400 RPM system drive. I use a LaCie 7200 RPM drive over FireWire 800 with great results. If your machine supports it, consider getting a Thunderbolt drive. In any case, recording to the internal system drive its the least desireable option.
Also, the number of tracks that you can record at one time depends upon the capabilities of your interface. Playback is more dependent on your disk speed and bus bandwidth. In other words, if you have an 8-channel interface, the max number of tracks you can record in any single pass is 8. Typically, you'll be able to playback a lot more than that, even from your internal drive.
It's always good to experiment on your own when there's no pressure.

Spotlight really is one of the best features of OSX. I've completely removed all the applications from the dock and just whack cmd-space and start typing the name of the app I want to start. It's much faster than navigating through the Applications folder or trying to cram a bunch of app icons on the dock.
Don't forget to use the search field in the "Save" dialog. I think a lot of people miss that one too. It's much faster than navigating folder trees to find the one you're after.
It's really fast on the MBP.
One of the major missing features is the ability to index behind packages. Aperture image databases are not indexed. Ouch.

  • MSI P7N Diamond - New PC Build - Need Help Posting

I just finished connecting my P7N Diamond out of the case and powered on my new build for the first time and saw BIOS version, HDD information, and the bad checksum message on the screen. I also saw the "Press DEL to enter BIOS" and the "F2 To Continue" messages.
Pressing the DEL key on the keyboard resulted in nothing happening at all. I soon realized that the keyboard wasn't responding and I had no num lock light at all after pressing the Num Lock key multiple times. I started with a generic, USB keyboard and then swapped keyboards to an older, still working one I had with a PS/2 connector.
Still no keyboard lights but magically it entered BIOS after I plugged it in the PS/2 socket and immediately asked if I wanted to exit BIOS  without saving. Pressing the "Y" key did nothing. Pressing <ESC> did nothing. The keyboard seemed frozen.
I pressed the RESET button on the motherboard and this caused a re-boot but now with a black screen (no messages at all). I powered it down, removed the power cords and then pressed the "clear CMOS" button. Re-connected the power cords and powered it on; but still a black screen. Powered it down, removed the power cords and removed the battery for 1 minute (I even pressed the clear CMOS button again). Re-connected the power cords, powered it up and still have a black screen.
I know this is the place where all the experts hang out, so any help will be appreciated.

    Just an update...
New build is working very well at this point.
I've set the voltage in BIOS to 2.1 for the memory and installed Vista Ultimate, updated it via Windows Update site, applied the memory patch. I've discovered that I have a bad stick of memory as no matter what slot I place this one stick of memory in, the PC fails to post, so I'm running with 3x1GB sticks. I've ordered new memory that should be here today; Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX.
The only problem I've encountered thus far is with one of my NVIDIA RAID arrays in "Degraded" status (mirror broken). This happened after I had applied the latest MS patches and a re-boot. I didn't suspect a HDD failure because the drives are new and the status of each drive was displaying as HEALTHY. I did my research on this site and discovered the solution which was to delete one of the two drives (I chose the one with the least amount of data) from the array and then added it back into the same array. The re-build took about 2 hours (they are 400GB Segate drives) and now it's working as advertised. I suspect a software problem caused this as one of the two drives was showing that it had less data (used) than the other drive.
My next steps are to install the new memory, test it with memtest86+ and then begin the OC ritual.
Thanks again for your help, Jason and Aaron Yuri.

  • With Boot Camp, should I install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (Home Premium edition) OR the 32 bit version when installing onto an early 2008 Mac Pro operating OSX Lion with a 1 TByte internal HDD?

With an early 2008 Mac Pro I'm about to add a second internal drive (1 TByte SATA) and initially install OSX Lion onto the new drive.  Then to partition this new HDD via Boot camp.  But my question is whether I am best advised to purchase the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (Home Premium) or the 32 bit version of Windows 7 (Home Premium) for the Windows sector of the disk  What are the differences, and will I notice a difference in performance?

In chart from wiki, (scroll down to "Comparison chart") check the maximum CPUs supported.
You don't see this on MSoft's 1st searched for chart hit. This is one reason you will regret not paying for Professional+ if you get Home Premium 64 as I did for Mac Pro early 2008.
Home Prem Task Mgr sees 4 processors vs. the 8 that are seen by Pro+.
Costs more than a Mac upgrade to Lion if you make that mistake.

    Hi Friends,
I have Macbook Pro 14 Inch INTEL(R) CORE(TM)2 DUO 2.4 GHZ ,4GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, unable to login into MAC OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.3 Version but with Boot Camp i can login into Windows 7 Home Premium, so i would like to clean the HDD and install NEW Version MACINTOSH OS, Which of the Latest OS perfectly workout to install in my MACBOOK PRO, I didnot have LAPTOP Backup disc......

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    our Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
If your computer isn’t compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.

I have recently purchased a hybred 750GbHDD as an upgrade for my MAC Book Pro (Intell Version) I have a boot camp partition to the original 500GB HDD. How can I expand both partitions to fit the new drive?
I have tried bootcamp and have had no luck due to the fact that boot camp doesn't see the additional HDD space of 250Gb. What am I not doing?

Ouch, well there is a problem.
This is the stack of partitions on your old drive
    EFI (hidden)
    Lion (50GB say)
    Bootcamp (50GB say)
    Lion Recovery Partiton (hidden)
This is the same stack on your new drive imaged from the old one.
    EFI (hidden)
    Lion (50GB say)
    Bootcamp (50GB say)
    Lion Recovery Partiton (hidden)
    Emtpy Space (100GB say)
    This is what you want
    EFI (hidden)
    Lion (100GB say)
    Bootcamp (100GB say)
    Lion Recovery Partiton (hidden)
EFI has to be at the top of the drive and Lion Recovery has to be at the bottom of the drive.
And you only have four partitions.
You can't move the Lion Recovery Partition or Bootcamp partiton, however you can expand the Lion Partition into empty space below it. (but can't delete or move the Lion Recovery partition)
Your Duplicator duplicated perfectly, too perfectly Likely would work with same sized drives/partitions.
This is what your going to need to do.
You need to move the Bootcamp partition to a blank external drive using WinClone and disconnect. This is so you have two backups of it. (one on your old 500GB drive)
You will need a drive enclousre or IDE/SATA to USB adapter cable for the older 500GB drive and option key boot from it. (some enclosures can't be booted from so check first Other World Computing is good place to ask)
Download the free Carbon Copy Cloner, grab any new files off the new 750GB internal drive to the old 500GB your booted from.
Open Apple's Disk Utility and Erase with Zero option the entire internal 750GB drive and let it rip, this will map off as many bad sectors and improve reliability.
Now use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the 500GB Lion + Lion Recovery Partitions to the internal 750GB, it will "fix" things and place Lion Recovery at the bottom of the drive where it belongs, give all the extra space to OS X Lion.
Next your going to have to follow WinClones instructions to restore your Bootcamp, likely you will have to recreate the Bootcamp partition first (in Bootcamp) to the size you want and then clone. Likely Winclone may "fix" Windows to recognize it's in a new larger partition now. I don't know you'll have to check as I haven't used it.
When Bootcamp creates the partition it will place it near the bottom next to the Lion Recovery Partition.
As you know you will have to re-validate Windows with Lord Redmond or it expires as you changed the hardware.

Syncing music via iTunes is only one way: from iTunes to your iPod.  If you need to copy the music from your iPod back to your PC, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to do this.

It should be like the very first time you synced your phone with I-Tunes. It will notice you haven't synced before and just copy everything from your phone into I-Tunes. It shouldn't delete anything from the phone, at least it never has for me. It just puts a copy of everything into I-Tunes and even if you delete an app for example from your phone and you decide you want it back later, you can just go back into I-Tunes and copy it back over. Hope this helps.

I had a previous version of photoshop installed on my machine. I lost my HDD. How can I download the version of photoshop that i bought ~4 yrs ago?

According to Wikipedia, 4 years ago you would most likely have bought Photoshop CS5.
You can download Photoshop CS5 from Adobe.  Start here:
    Download CS5 products
You'll need your serial number to activate it.  If you don't have that, you can likely find it on Adobe's main web site after you've logged-in with your Adobe ID.  See the Find your serial number quickly link to pursue that.

  • FaceTime can't be installed on "HDD Name" because the version of Mac OS X is too new.

    on AppStore it says:
FaceTime can’t be installed on “HDD Name” because the version of Mac OS X is too new.

After upgrading my MacBook to Lion, FaceTime (purchased from the App Store) quit working. It would just hang when I'd hit the button to "Turn on FaceTime".
So from a terminal, I deleted:
    /Applications/FaceTime.app/
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FaceTime.plist
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.FaceTime/
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.FTMonitor.plist
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.FaceTime.*
Now, when I go to the App Store to install FaceTime, I get the same error as the OP.
