HP Designjet 500 - Change from WATER BASE INK to PERMANENT PIGMENT

Has anyone tried to change a printer designed to use water base dye inks to permanent pigment base ink? I have read some positive things and not so positive. Some say it clogs the print heads others have not found it to be so. Any ideas, input or personal experience with this topic?
As a footnote, the color BLACK is permanent pigment in printers that ARE water base printers. My primary purpose is to be able to print outdoor signage without laminating a print. Have you personally found a method to 'seal' the final print. If so - share with us what method you found useful. Did you brush a coating on it, spray a coating or find something brilliant that works? Tell us!

There are Designjet models that are designed to switch between pigment or dye based inks, but the change requires changing the ink supplies, the tubing and the printheads.  The models that support this also recognize the change and apply more servicing to the pigmented system to keep the printheads from clogging.
Putting pigmented ink into a system that was not designed for this would likely have very poor results and a very short head life.
That said, this forum is focused on consumer level products.  For the Designjet you may have better results posting in the HP Designjet forum here.

  • Nexus 1000V overdraft license - How to force the vem to change from an overdraft to a permanent license

    Hi all,
We installed a new VEM module on the N1K. As we did not had enough installed licenses at this time, the vem took 2 overdraft licenses.
Now, another vem has been removed from the VSM and then, we recovered those 2 licenses from the removed Vem to the license-pool.
Is it a way to force the vem ( currently using the overdraft licenses) to use the 2 licenses from the pool without service disruption.
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards.
    Frédéric

    Hi Frédéric,
You could migrate the VMs off that host, do the license procedure, then move the VMs back.
    Thanks,

  • Designjet 500 doesn't print from Windows 7 64 bits

    The problem:
We got our first Windows 7 64 bit laptop and we can't print to our Designjet 500. Windows submits the job to the printer without errors but it doesn't print and the error 61:05 is displayed on the printer's display. The printer is connected to the network infrastructure with HP Jetdirect.
    Things I tried:
I tried to connect this laptop directly to the printer through USB.
I tried to print from Autocad and the Windows test page.
I tried the Windows Update drivers and the ones provided in HP's support website.
I tried all the different flavors of the Windows 7 64 bit drivers (w/ HPGL2 card; PS; Plus; 24/42 inches)
I tried to print from a 2nd W7 x64 laptop that I got temporarily just to troubleshoot this issue.
    Conclusion:
All 32 bit OS's print as expected. None of the new W7 64 bit systems print. None of the things I tried made a difference, the job is sent to the printer and the error is always the same.
Any ideas to go on from here?

  • Can't plot from Leopard to an HP Designjet 500, shared by a Winxp machine

Hello, I hope somebody can help me with this issue.
I have a plotter, an HP Designjet 500, plugged into a winxp machine(via usb), and a new iMac 20" alu. They're in the same smb network: the imac can print to the inkjet printers (HP) plugged into the same winxp pc, but not to the plotter. The imac can see it via smb: it appears in the "Add printer/fax" dialog, under the correct windows/smb workgroup(it appears as "HPDesi"...). But it seems that there isn't the right driver for it; in the list, there are several drivers by gutenprint, but no one of them is exactly for the designjet 500 (there's a 500ps version, but it doesn't work, obviously). Then, I've tried to install the driver provided with the included CD, but the driver didn't appear in the list; so I've downloaded the driver from the HP site, but again no driver in the list.
So, I've tried the driver for the 800 version. The best I got was the plotter saying "processing", but nothing seemed to be working... Maybe now plugging the plotter into the imac I could print, with that driver installed, but the plotter is placed in another room...
Simply, at the moment, I can't print form leopard to this plotter.
    Does anybody can help me?
    Thanks
    Luca Sangemi

    Hi,
you should try the hp printer driver version 4.1 for DesignJet 500, it works with leopard: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=de&cc=de &prodNameId=20988&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25301&swLang=18&taskId=8418&swEn vOID=219
My DesignJet 500 ps is connected via ethernet and it is printiting with this driver.
    Greetings

  • Oversize A2 Paper Size value(string) for HP Designjet 500 Plus 24 (Paper Roll).

    Greetings.
I am working at constructor’s bureau. Recently we decided to automate drawing printing from SolidWorks program (it’s a CAD software). I have written a code. SolidWorks API allows to choose for printing such settings as paper tray, scale, color, orientation and paper size. I am having an issue with the last option. Paper size gets set by passing value (string). Here are some of them: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd319099(v=vs.85).aspx. I can get the needed value by “Recording macro” and selecting the size I need in SolidWorks
Such paper sizes as A4, ISO A4, Oversize A4 have different numbers. Same goes for A3, A2 and etc. In addition, the values are not universal. They can alter depending on printer.
We have 5 printers for various paper sizes (from A0 to A4) and I set correct value for 4 of them, but I have a trouble with – “HP Designjet 500 Plus 24”. This printer can print both A1 and A2. I managed to make A1 printing work (I just pass value 621 that means “Overize A1”, without changing paper tray), as for A2 the value must be 620 that is "Oversize A2", but it does not work. Only part of the drawing gets printed and it gets placed somewhere in the middle. I guess it just prints according to printer default settings. Maybe the value is not 620? If it is so, can you tell me the real one?
I can try to change default settings to match the A2 printing. However, the printer itself is a network printer. So changing some settings there might get someone in the office angry. So getting the right values is a perfect solution.
I am slowly getting desperate, because all printers work perfectly, except for one. Which makes the code unusable. I can post the code, but it will not help much, because I only need to set one or two values correctly.
One more thing, we are using roll of paper, so maybe I have to also set the paper tray, even if it is still the same as for A1?
    Thank you in advance.

  • HP DesignJet 500 and OS 10.4.6

A few weeks ago, I upgraded from Mac OS 10.3 to OS 10.4.6 on an iMac G4. Ever since my upgrade, I have not been able to print custom sizes to my HP DesignJet 500+HPGL2. (FWIW, the printer is connectd with a USB cable, and the size I’m trying to print is 42” wide by 120” long.)
I downloaded and installed the latest driver for OS X/DesignJet 500 from the HP site, but still nothing. At best, the printer just spits out the paper and cuts it off without making a single mark on it. At worst, the printer just ignores me.
When I try to run the configuration utility (opening the print queue and clicking on “Utility”), the system prompts me to select a printer. BUT, the only option it gives me is the other printer connected to my Mac (a DeskJet 1220C).
I’ve tried RIP programs (which did nothing) and selecting “Rasterize Print Output” (which spit out a full 120” of paper without a single mark). I’ve tried printing to Preview to avoid wasting paper, and it shows that the paper is completely blank.
I can’t be the only person out there with this problem. Can anybody offer any suggestions? And if I can’t find an answer, does anybody know if it’s possible to downgrade from 10.4.6 back to 10.3?
    Thanks,
    Ben
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   DesignJet 500 + HPGL2

I posted this message last week and figured I'd come back and post what I found over the weekend. I eventually ended up downgrading from 10.4.6 to 10.3.2 again... and losing about 2 weeks of e-mail in the process (even though I double-checked the location of the messages before downgrading). Unfortunately, the downgrade didn't fix the problem.
By happy accident, I changed the size of my test doc from 42-in x 120-in to 18-in x 24-in. (Actually, I got tired of wasting 10 feet of blank paper every time I screwed up and printed with the wrong settings.) Eureka! It printed fine. It seems that even though the DesignJet 500 is supposed to print docs up to 150 inches long, there is an artificial limit of 109 inches on a Macintosh. It turns out that we've only used the printer for 9-foot jobs (108 inches) so far, but I didn't realize that because I'm not the primary user of this machine.
Anyway, I've seen several discussion threads about problems between Tiger and the DesignJet 500/800, so I figured I'd post my findings here. Maybe this will save some other poor schmuck from spending a weekend in the office while his friends are at a pool party. At least I'm off the hook now. :o)

  • Anyway to create custom page size for designjet 500? wasting way too much paper!

just got a hp designjet 500 from jobsite. hooked up to mac. everything prints fine................
    EXCEPT
ok i did a simple test 'strip' in adobe illustrator setting the width of the document to 36" which is the size of the paper roll i'm using. i had placed a couple of strips of the same objects with different color fills close to the bottom of the 'artboard'. when going to select print i realized that the printer only recognizes standard page sizes and does not allow me to change to a custom size to say like 36"w by 4" h. so the print came out in the center of a 48" long size piece of paper which obviously wastes soooo much paper.
so i can't create a custom size print page is there a way to have it print close to the bottom margin, turn off the cutting feature, print it, cut manually then move the paper back via the machine or would i have to do it manually and realign the paper and setup after every print?
    thanks in advance!

  • Default paper sizes HP designjet 500

In system preferences printer setup for my HP designjet 500 there are no Arch size paper sizes available. They are available when printing from applications but it is frustrating that I can not set the only paper size I ever use in the default settings. Is there some way of activating arch paper sizes as default in system preferences?

No, there isn't a way to change the list of default page sizes in Print & Fax Prefs, but you can set the default page size by using TextEdit (or any other app that has Page Setup): change the Paper Size in the "Paper Size" menu the desired arch size, then select "Save as Default" in the "Settings" menu. That should set the default size for other applications.
    Hope this helps.

  • HP Designjet 500 Installation w/HP s5310f Pavilion Problem.

I've attempted to install a Designjet 500 42" Roll model to my new Windows 7 s5310f Computer.  Used a firewire to USB adapter cord and plugged into a USB port on the back.  Installed (ran) the Windows 7 driver, unzipped and it said 23 files were successfully unzipped.  Ran the "Add a Printer" function, chose sharing and default printer status, amd it said the HP Designjet 500 was successfully installed.  Will not print.  Icon shows is active.  When I try to print it either says "Could not start print job", or on a random basis it sends the drawing to the printer, the printer flickers from "Ready" to "Processing" and then back to "Ready".  Drawing may or may not be in the queue (random).
Any ideas please?  I've tried different ports from LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, and USB 0001.

  • How to switch from color pigement ink to dye ink in my HP9500A?

I have a HP 9500A and recently ordered 1litre of each color and when it arrived the color inks were all dye based ink not the pigment based ink I had been using. My print heads need replacing and I thought I would switch to dye for the color when I replace the heads. How do I flush the dye ink out of the system or is it even necessary to flush the pigmented ink out before installing the dye based ink cartridges.

In general when switching from dye based inks to pigmented or vice versa you would need to change the printheads, ink tubes, supplies and perhaps the service station.

  • Will HP Designjet 500 work with Apple Time Capsule?

I have an Apple Time Capsule Base station and was wondering if it would be able to allow my dad's Dell Precisions (M4500 and M4700) to print to it wirelessly. We had a part of our basement finished for his new office and his plotter (HP Designjet 500) is outside the office, about 20ft away from both his laptops and my Time Capsule is on a shelf just above it. I'm just curious as it's an old plotter from like, 2001 so its old.

Really don't know but it is worth a go..
Simply plug the printer into the TC via its USB port.
On the PC load the airport utility for windows, whichever version he uses.. but the latest version utility is 5.6.1 for win7. That will also load bonjour for windows which is a big help to using network resources like printers.. you can then use the airport utility to make sure the TC has picked up the printer.
Then load the printer and have a shot at printing.
    Suck and See.

  • Silly question, maybe. I want to change from Verizon DSL to cable, but cable company doesn't supply router.  can I use my Airport Extreme as wireless router?

We currently have the following wireless home-network configuration, powered by Verizon DSL.
    2 macbook pro’s
    1 emachine
    HP PhotoSmart 6122 all-in-one printer
    Apple TV
Apple Airport Extreme Base Port A 1408
    Westell 7500 router
Thinking I’d get wider wireless coverage throughout my 2 bedroom home, I purchased the Airport Extreme. It is connected to the router via its sole usb port.  The result was only a tiny increase in speed, and no increase in coverage, so I don’t know why I have it.
We now want to change from DSL to cable, thus ditching Verizon.  Our new cable provider supplies the cable box, but no router for wireless networking.
    Here are my questions.
Can I use the Airport Extreme (AE) as a wireless router?
If so, how should I hook it up?  Should the usb cable go from the AE to the cable box, and all the other devices connect wirelessly?
If not, how should I be using the AE to some advantage?  What can I get out of the investment?
Thank you very much for your help!  Beatriz

What I wrote has nothing to do with what the cable company charges for their installation. And, usually they will help with the router setup even if you supply your own router. I don't know what they will charge for the modem.
Note that you need to get just a modem. You don't want a modem/router combination. That will make using an AEBS effectively nearly impossible. You will need to ask specifically for just a standalone modem, and that you will supply your own router.

  • How to print pdf file to my Designjet 500+HPGL2 (C7769B)

    Hi,
We have HP Designjet 500+GL2 plotter in the office, used to print A1 & A3 drawings. Last time someone from HP install HP eprint & share to my computer for me to print PDF files to the plotter. But my CPU brokedown, so now I'm using a new PC. But now I can't print PDF files to our plotter. Even when I install the eprint & share software from you website.
I already check the possibility that I'm not connected to the printer but no because when I print test page, it is working. Please help. Thanks.

  • Can't get HP DesignJet 500 connected

We are trying to get a Mac with Snow Leopard OS connected to our DesignJet 500. The DJ500 is connected via a Linksys printer server to our Window Server 2003. I've tried a bunch of work arounds, but it either won't connect, has on hold authentication error, or says connected but won't print. I would love any and help or suggestions. I'm super frustrated at this point!
    Thanks!

Sometimes, the Reset Printing System command will get things going when nothing else will. If you haven't tried this, it' worth a shot.
    Open Print & Fax
Right-click in the printers area on the left
    Select +Reset Printing System+
You'll have to setup your printers again and give it another try. If you can get printing going, your all-in-one will only print from the USB port location on the AirPort Extreme. Fax, copy, scan, maintenance, etc are not supported, so you'll need to connect directly to your computer for those services.
I checked to see if the printer was on the compatibility list published by the iFelix site and could not find it. But neither could I find it on the incompatibility list, so there's not much to go on here.
