HP DesignJet 5500 PS - green tint (partial ) issue

Plotter: HP DesignJet 5500 PS 60 in We've noticed a drop in plot quality after upgrading our computers to Win 7/Win 8. The greenish tint stands out on raster ( aerial ) plots. First we blamed it on the paper we were using ( not matching the profile loaded on the plotter) then we found the driver to be causing this. Once Win 7 & 8 were released , HP failed to provide a PS driver. When installing the printer on Win 7 /8 you'll have to use Microsoft drivers for PS printing. This plotter is used 90% for ArcGIS/PDF plots so we needed a PS driver. A few months ago, one of the print heads started leaking and we ended up replacing the entire set of ink lines ( carrying ink from tank to print head). New ink cartridges were installed to make sure no air will be left in the ink lines .... About 1 month after this , we noticed that longer plots ( 36x72 or more) would not print correctly: the first half o the colors look correct then the remaining half a green tint is present. We usually print to PDF and afterwards we send it to the plotter. Apparently there are some issues when plotting a PDF using an HPGL2 driver so we've started sending raster plots straight to the plotter. Well, today I printed another 36x72 (raster & vector) using HPGL2 driver and only the first half of the plot looked the way it should ( last half was green). Has anyone had this problem? It's been suggested ( by our maintenance company) to buy a new plotter because the specs on the 5500 say it is only compatible with OS-s up to Win XP ! Is anyone plotting to an HP 5500 from a Win 7 / 8 PC? What drivers are you using? Are your plots looking good /as expected? Do your raster plots look good? Any help /feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! LR

Thank you both for taking the time to answer! Here is the status:  I ran a few calibration tests: 1 color calibrations and printhead alignment. While the first color calibration looked OK, after printing a couple of demo pics from the plotter, I noticed issues with one of the colors ( missing lines). The following color calibration tests  made it obvious the Light Magenta was failing.  Replaced the printhead and printed again. When printing demo picture from the plotter colors looked ok. I am still testing with different drivers but  at this point it looks like it is a driver issue: raster plots made using HPGL2 drivers are crisp while raster plots made using PS driver are greenish and faded- at least green tint appears to be constant now... This is just me testing , without vendor assistance.... I am plotting from ArcGIS ( not AutoCAD or Photoshop) but I seem to be the only one with such issues- hard to believe though....  I will post back again once I do more testing. Thanks again! LR

  • LR 2.3 applies a green tint to RAW image AFTER making adjustments

    Hi all,
Thanks for having this great forum, it looks like there is some great information here. I clicked around the LR threads and the FAQ but I haven't found anything applying particularly to my issue/question, though, and I'm hoping some of you can help me understand what is going on. .
I have read about LR changing the colorcast on import, however in my case the images look fine after importing and processing. When I click BACK to an image that I have already processed, I am seeing LR 2.3 apply a green tint to it, and I have no idea why.
    What I am doing:
-Import Canon RAW files into LR collection (images look fine, no abnormal colorcast)
    Develop tab:
-I can click around the collection and view the images without any colors changing
-Process an image to my heart's content (image color still looks fine)
-Click to the next image and process the next one
-Mouse-over on the previously processed image on the bottom filmstrip, and preview shows up on the Navigator pane (preview looks as the image was edited previously)
-if I click to a previously processed image in the filmstrip, it will load into the center pane
-while the processed image loads here, the green tint gets applied to the image
-Color tint/green saturation has not moved from its previous position (even if it was moved during initial processing)
-In order to correct it, I either have to adjust the color tint slider about 20 points away from green, or dial down the green saturation to compensate.
Once I re-correct the image, I can click back to it again, and the mysterious green tint will no longer re-apply itself on this image.
This happens to most if not all of the images in the collection. I have only processed one other RAW collection in LR, but I did not have this issue.
I dont know what exactly is being changed to result in this green tint applying on its own, so I'm not sure if the adjustments I'm making are correcting it.fully.
I hope I'm detailed enough in explaining what I'm seeing, and that it makes some kind of sense.
Does anyone know what is going on here?
    Thank you!

Hi John, thanks for the reply.
Thanks, I'll look into the preferences in LR, although everything has remained mostly in its default settings. I've loaded JPG collections without seeing this either.
Would monitor profiles matter in my case? I ask because I am simply clicking back to a previous picture in the strip. When I leave the picture it looks fine, and returning to it shows that image but with the green tint. I haven't gotten to the point of exporting/converting the image, or anything further.
Some more information if it helps:
    Using MS Vista
    Using Canon Rebel XTi 400D
I copy only the raw files from the memory card to a folder, and then point the LR Import to that folder.
I will try replicating the issue on another computer in hopes to narrow it down. I am baffled.

  • Green tint when hooking G4 PowerBook up to LCD projection

I've been hooking up my G4 to external projection for presentations for a long time and then all of a sudden last week whenever I hooked up to display information to a group the projected image had a green tint. The image always looks fine on my computer but the projected display is really ugly and hard to look at. Any ideas on what the problem is?
    G4 Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi lwb2000;
First issue: "Green tint" Possible cause - damaged DVI connector in Powerbook, monitor video cable not seated correctly, monitor video cable may be damaged, or monitor connector on video projector may be damaged. Inspect the connectors at all points in the chain.
Second issue: "display is really ugly and hard to look at" Launch Display Preferences in System Preferences and calibrate (under the 'color' tab) the projector monitor settings.
    Hopefully this will help you.
    Take care.

  • Monitor occasionally takes a blue-green tint

Why does my monitor occasionally, at very irregular times,  take on a blue green tint?

It would help if you identified the display. locate the barcoded sticker on the back of the monitor and post the p/n that is there.
To see if the monitor itself has issues remove it and connect another display to see if your PC duplicates the problem on the other monitor. The idea is to isolate the issue  for troubleshooting as either a monitor of video card problem. Alternately you can conect the monitor to another PC to accomplish the same effect.

  • Pantone Color 5615 Coated Won't Print On 1 of 2 Identical HP DesignJet 5500s

    Hi,
We've run into an odd problem where we have 2 locations with identical setups: Creative Suite Design Premium 4, Mac Pros, and HP DesignJet 5500s.  The same InDesign file prints fine in one location with a DesignJet 5500, but when we print the same ID file at the second location that has a second DesignJet 5500, the only color that doesn't print correctly is Pantone 5615 Coated.  We're using same printer driver version for both printers.  I haven't yet checked Firmware versions for both printers.
On the printer that won't print Pantone 5615, the printer doesn't print it correctly in any of our Creative Suite applications.  We tried creating completely new files in ID, PS, IL and the color won't print.  We've checked color management in Bridge and ID and they seem OK.  We're not currently having any other color problems printing with any other Creative Suite files with this printer.  Colors are accurate all the way around.
I read the forum and saw a lot of posting about Pantone colors, so I will try some of the suggestions related to Pantone issues.  At the moment, I'm not at the location with the problem printer and can't try the suggestions until next week.
When I was at the location yesterday, we tried printing Pantone 5615 from Quark 7.5 and the color printed fine.  Obviously, we don't want to use Quark on an ongoing basis for this project.  It seems likely that it isn't a printer hardware problem since the Pantone color prints out fine from the Quark file.  There seems to be a setting somewhere in Creative Suite that the printer at our one location doesn't like, or there is some setting on the printer that is different than the other printer.  I don't think it's a network problem with the one printer versus the other printer because I would think Quark would then run into the same problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jason

I have the same issue with my 44" Z3100ps GP Photo, but it is when I print from Photoshop CS5. I am running OSX 10.68 and since the last Apple/HP printer driver update this last Summer my printer will not print solid black strokes or borders around an image, yet the image prints perfectly.
I tried to roll back the drivers with no success. If I make a solid black rectangler file and try print it nothing at all prints. If I scribble in Photoshop with white paint brush in the middle of that same file the printer skips the left edge of the black rectangle and then prints the middle scribbnle and right egde of the rectangle folowing the contour of the scribble on the left.
Had me baffled and still does, the printheads are in good working order. I print large canvas photos with 1.5" black borders used to cover the sides of stretched canvases. The only way I have found around this issue is to add an inch or so to the canvas size all the way around in photoshop and make it white. That seems to fool the printer into printing the file with the full black border. Still this is not a real fix, but at least it keeps my printer running.
Let me know if you find a solution to this. HP support doesn't help as they only give support to in warranty printers. Maybe Apple could help with the drivers?

  • Opened LR2 in Vista32 Business everything had a green tint

    Hi,
Just for the record I like to say that LR2 is incredible!!! I have been using LR since 1.0 and what a wonderful journey it has been. I like to consider myself very experienced with this software, but I am recently puzzled about an issue that has only happened twice and was wondering if anyone has had the same issue.
    1) The first time: Opened LR2 in Vista32 Business everything had a green tint, every catalog, every image was just green. So I closed and rebooted my PC, reopened LR2 and everything was ok. So I figured weird but no big deal, never happened again until!!!!
    2) The second time: Same thing, but this time it will not go away. I even went as far as pulling a backup of one of my catalog files and the same thing.
    So anyone???
    Thanks in advance.

There is a very subtle effect you might be able to see in the shadows where Lightroom will look slightly different from any other color managed program. I had a discussion with somebody else with an eye-one that had that problem that disappeared when using matrix profiles. You might never get to see it though. This is far subtler then your green problem though on your PC.
Regarding the strong color tint, often what I think happens is that a windows machine gets some sort of driver update that the user just installs without thinking about it. This driver update however contains a hidden monitor profile. Often they are the new Microsoft version of v5 profiles done by a monitor manufacturer but never tested with Lightroom. Those tend to hose Lightroom's color display. A good indication of this is when the Histogram display looks off - i.e. the area that is supposed to be grey has a strange tint.

  • Canvas problem - green tint

My canvas window has a green tint when it should have been black (between the clips). I've checked my canvas settings and tried to fill the green spaces with slug, but nothing works...

Since it's come up, I must say I'm always surprised by how often folks seemingly need to trash preferences. Since installing FCP 4, I've had to trash preferences only twice. The first time was while running 4.1 (it turned out to be Jaguar issue, so it didn't help). The other time was the very first time I ran 5.0 after installation: the icon bounced on the dock, then nothing. Trashing preferences solved that - and that was after an Erase & Install of Tiger! - so who knows what the deal with preferences is. <shrug>
While Patrick brings up good points, I suspect luck has everything to do with it. Of course, mentioning this is probably like breaking a mirror - I get the sense I'm going to be handed 7 years of crashes and system failures for speaking of about all this.

  • Colors become oversatured with green tint after last import

    Hi,
I use Lightroom on Windows Vista and after last import from my D300 my images have colors that are oversaturated and have a green tint that makes eyes bleed. Following advice from http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402862&sliceId=2 and upgrading to 1.4.1 didn't solve this problem.
I also noticed this same problem on older images which were fine before so my guess is that this problem is self-inflicted. I would really appreciate any ideas on how this could happen and how to fix it.
I apologize if this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find it in KB or forums.

    >my green colors issue was "fixed" by adding the sRGB profile to my windows monitor settings and setting it as the default in place of the manufacture-provided profile (which i made sure was up to date). i don't quite understand why that would make things better as my monitor is surely not capable of reproducing the full sRGB gamut. is it correct for me to assume that there is some other lightroom or windows problem at hand for which this procedure happens to be a workaround? or is there something more fundamental about color management that i'm missing here?
Chalk another one up to a bad manufacturer-supplied profile. We have seen these here hundreds of times now. Technically what happens is that Lightroom uses the perceptual profile present in such a profile, while most other color managed software (Photoshop, Safari, etc.) use the relative colorimetric. For some reason, many manufacturer-supplied profiles have corrupt perceptual intent in them. This makes Lightroom (and any other app that uses it) appear weird. Bottom line is that you cannot get good color on any system without calibrating it yourself. Rarely is a manufacturer profile any good, even if the perceptual intent is not broken.

  • Getting very green tint on importing GF 1 RAW files.

    Using AP 3.2.3 on 10.7.4.
Getting very green tint on importing GF 1 RAW files. Also a message saying the files were processed usnig a previous Aperture RAW conversion. When I click on the reprocess button nothing happens for a few seconds then the WB corrects, but not every time. Sometimes I have to click on the WB picker for it to have an effect. This has only just started to happen as I've used the GF1 for 2-3 years with no problem. I see from other posts that the WB is a known issue but I alsohave the previous RAW message as well.
    Any thoughts?

    Two things to try:
Force the generation of new previews by holding down the option key while selecting "Update Preview"
If this only happened after you upgraded to 10.7.4 and worked well before, then register your camera with the lauch services database - see this post by Alan Roseman:This solved my questionRe: Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish, but read the follow up posts (the lsregister command) as well, on how it is supposed to work and how to correct the typos.

  • Strange brief green tint changes in MPEG-4 bitstreams

I'm running into a strange issue that seems specific to QuickTime. When I try to play certain MP4 files containing MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile bitstreams, they play back generally okay, except that, when there's motion, everything will suddenly have a greenish tint, and then change back to normal colors. The bitstream seems to play okay with VLC, Elecard, Windows Media Player, and DivX, so it seems specific to QuickTime.
Interestingly, if MPEG-4 Simple Profile is used instead, everything is fine. This makes me wonder if this is an issue with how B-frames are processed.
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Thanks for whatever help you might be able to provide.

  • Green tint apparent on photos through Rear Camera

I was using my iPhone lastnight at work, downloading some apps, and doing the normal iPhone stuff. The phone was normal and fine, and I did use the camera earlier during the evening to take a photo of a document letter.
I placed the phone on my desk, (back side down), so the screen was upward facing. There wasn't/isn't any bright lights or anything. The iPhone was laying on a piece of paper, so nothing out of the ordinary.
A few hours later, I turned the iPhone on and went to take another photo of a document. I then realized a "green" tint in the center of my screen. At first I thought maybe it was what people call "Pixel Burn" but then realized after I left the Camera.app and went to any other part of the OS, there was no Green tint. I also tried the Front Facing Camera, and no green tint either.
I then tried the Rear-Facing Camera again... and the Tint is still visible. I am at a lose for words as to what would even cause such a thing. I've attached a few photos so that you may see what I am talking about...
    Also.
I've restarted. Uninstalled the last App I installed, which was Box.net, and nothing changed, it's still there.
    Any ideas?!
I've had the phone for just about 2 weeks.

It seems while all iPhones u might see a very light green spot under certain lights if you really realy try to find it. And a few u can just tell by looking at it
