HP Designjet Z6100 printhead failure.

I´m having the following problem: When the plotter has to print an image with some yellow density, printhead yellow / magenta begins to fail, and the printer stops printing, giving the indication that is necessary to replace the printhead magenta / yellow nr2. All the alignments and calibrations are  always successfully completed. For job prints with yellow but with low density, the machine prints normally. Initially, I thought it might be something related to air in the tubes, and i purged the ink tubes,  but the problem remained, I ended up replacing the complete tube system with trailing cable . Unfortunately the problem remained, after that, i startded thinking this could be an electronic problem. So,  i replaced  at the same time, the  carriage pcboard and  the flex cables, unfortunately the problem persists. The plotter has the latest firmware, all the cartdridges are full (already changed) and the printhead yellow/ magenta was replaced 3 times.
I´ve been studing other possibilities and  I would apreciate some help to resolve this issue. I've spoken with several colleagues linked to  HP and  nobody had experienced a similar situation.
I appreciate any possible help

  • Printing issues in Illustrator with HP Designjet Z6100

I am using Illustrator CS5 on a mac running Lion 10.7.2. Printing to an HP Designjet Z6100. Getting muddy colors. We also have PCs on which we run the same version of AI using the same color management settings, to the same HP printers. We can't match the great color we get off the PC when printing from the Mac. The color management settings on the mac are: color handling=let AI determine color; printer profile=Adobe RGB (1998), on PC SRGB IEC61966-2.1; rendering=relative colormetric. Virtually the same as the PC settings. Running on a network, not sure the software there, but it is PC based.
I have gone to HP, Apple and Adobe without much success. Anyone have this workflow setup, and are you successfully printing great color from your Mac to the HP designjet Z6100, or Z6200?
Any advice would be great! Thanks much,
    Janis @ T&C Graphics

    A few observations:

    - It may help to update all of your applications on the Mac side ( if you haven't already );
    - Your color settings are not the same, on the Mac you selected Adobe RGB; on the PC you have sRGB;
    - What are your CMYK settings?
"I have gone to HP, Apple and Adobe without much success. Anyone have this workflow setup, and are you successfully printing great color from your Mac to the HP designjet Z6100, or Z6200?"
    - I've managed a large format shop where we had PC's and Mac's printing to a HPDesignjet5500, but I was going through a calibrated RIP ( Wasatch 5 ).  Your solution may come down to simply calibrating the printer.  But, I would go a step further and establish a calibration system including a spectrometer.  The HP Z6100, I believe, has an internal spectrometer.  And, I believe HP has an optional Postcript Level 3 RIP.  If you have those 2 elements ( the RIP and the spectrometer ), then you can build your own .icc profile(s) for the printer(s) and paper(s) you commonly use in your workflow.
You did not mention if you had calibrated the RIP or HP Z6100 driver.  If not, I would start there.  Unfortunately, with every iteration of Mac OS's, Adobe application versions, and even HP's update program, there may be something you've overlooked somewhere along the way.  You have to look at certain variables when dealing with printer output.  What may look good to you may not be the most accurate color and, vice versa, what may not look good to you may be accurate color.  The key is establishing an objective and you will get that when you do a thorough system calibration.  I hear over and over that people cannot match what they see on their monitor to what they get in their printer output.  Few ( and I'm not saying you are one of them ) have done a thorough system calibration.  Now, if you've established via a thorough system calibration, that the PC to HPZ6100 is more accurate, then you've isolated the problem to the Mac OS.  The decision now comes down to, Do I dump the Mac for the PC?  Perhaps not, but I wouldn't rule it out.  On the other hand, you may establish that the PC is inaccurate, therefore the Mac should be your point system.  This is all guess work until you calibrate both systems and establish an objective workflow.

  • DesignJet Z6100 will not start

Hope someone has an answer to this problem. We have had the z6100 plotter for a couple of years and this morning the employee that uses this plotter noticed it was off, when he tried to turn it on it displays a rectangle on the led screen and one beep while the power lite flashes one red then 5 green a quick red and 13 green a quick red and shuts down. on the back above the power switch the first or left is amber with just the back switch on when the power button is pressed the center light is blue while trying to start and back to amber when it does not start. have tried to start with down arrow, cancel, and power button but same thing. what is happening?
Thanks to any who might be able to help.

  • HP Designjet Z6100 Plotter won't start...help!

The plotter has been unplugged and not used for about a week. Today, I plugged the power cord in, switched on the ON/OFF power switch at the rear, then pressed the Power button on the front panel. The plotter started to boot up, the green light was blinking, then everything just stoped, power switched off by itself!!! I tried several times, same thing happened. Anybody knows what's going on?!?

Are there any beeps or buzzer noises when powering on?  If there are then don't replace anything, and let me know what the beep code is.  What number is displayed on the front panel right before it shuts off again (this will help determine what part is failing)?  Let me know that.
If there are no beeps or numbers on the panel then enter service mode following these steps if you can.
Make sure the printer is switched Off from the power switch on the front of the printer and not from the power switch on the back of the printer.
Hold the Down arrow key and the Cancel key down and switch the printer On using the front Power switch. Wait until you hear one beep (usually after 5 seconds) before releasing all three keys.
Run the Electronics Module test if you can get into service mode:  (if you can't get into service mode then let me know).  Basically you just keep hitting hitting yes to run the test and then when completed you can hit any key to go onto the next test.  The only test that can fail with an error and we can safely ignore is the serial number test.  Any other errors that are reported, please give me the full numeric code.  There are over 20 tests (if I remember correctly) so this will take some time as some of the tests themselves are lengthy.
If you can't get into service mode, there are no beeps and nothing displays on the front panel, then follow these steps:
Check that the power cord is connected correctly to the Printer and to the Power Socket.
Check that the Power Switch on the back of the Printer is in the On position.
Check to see if any of the LEDs on the Power Switch are On .
Check that the Front-Panel Cable is correctly connected to the Electronics Module. Also make sure that the Front-Panel cable is not damaged.
    Replace the CPU Fan.
    Replace the Power Supply Unit.

  • HP Photosmart Premium C310 Series.......Printhead Problem

I have the HP Photosmart Premium C310 Series Printer. It will no longer print. There is an error message of "Printhead Problem", with the instructions of:  Remove all Cartridges. Next, left black latch and remove printhead. Then re-install Printhead and Cartridges. I have done this several times with no success. Even went out and bought all new ink cartridges and tried those as well with no success. With this error message on the printer screen, it won't let me get off of that screen.

Hi annie47here, and thanks for the reply.
After reviewing the issue, it's possible you are experiencing printhead failures.  The best recommendation I could make would be to contact HP directly.  You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide.

If I do not change the ink cartridge as soon as I get a low ink indicator, I get a printhead failure message, and I have to go thru hell & back to get the printer to operate again. This has happened 2 times and I don't remember how I got it to work again. Seriously, what is up with this?

  • Print driver for Z6100

I have a HP z6100 printer, but I have recently bought an Imac with version 10.9 OS and there are no drivers listed anymore. This is a really serious matter for me as this is my business, can you help ? Or suggest that some drivers be adapted for this problem as Im surely not the only person in the world with this problem ?

    Hi,
The HP Designjet Z6100 fo have drivers available via Apple Software Update.
First click the Apple icon and select Software Update.
Click the Store menu and then on Reload Store, that will update the Mac OS and its database..
Be sure to install any listed Apple or HP updates in this step.
Next connect the printer to your Mac with a USB or connect the printer to the network.
For USB, confirm any prompt and the drivers will install.
For network, go to System Prefernces  > Printers & Scanners. click the plus sign and select the listed printer. comfirm any prompt and the drivers should install.
Finally, I would suggest running Software Update and reloading the store once again to ensure there are no further HP driver updates available.
Please let me know of any issue,

  • L7680 Repeating Alignment Failure

Please help.  Had a paper jam a couple weeks ago (first one ever).  Removed paper.  Then received error of Y/B printhead failure.  Replaced printhead with brand new HP printhead.  Manual says to clean contacts with soft clean cloth.  Later in manual it says to make sure you "dry" the contacts.  Never used anything but a dry soft cloth.  After this was all done and installed it then tried to do an alignment.  Now all I get is alignment failure.  I replaced all cartridges yesterday.  Same message "alignment failure".  Faxes print fine but everytime I print from the PC or our as400 it prints an alignment page and fails which of course wastes ink, paper, etc.  The alignment page prints about half way and then stops and spits it out.
Any suggestions?  I love this printer and use it constantly.

Just an FYI.  At one point I received a message that my y/b printhead needed to be replaced.  I did this but it continued with the alignment failure.  I went ahead and replaced the m/c printhead.  Problem fixed.  Printer works great again.  Cost a little bit of money (could have bought a new printer) but oh well................

  • HP officejet pro 8600 plus need to reset, but no screen access due to head error

    hi,
I had some HP's 8600 but one of them it is dead as printer and it was replaced.
I need to use it only as scanner (no printing since its problem are the printing heads). The problem I cannot access to the menu through the screen since it is stock with the message mentioning the fail on printing head. The next option it is to watch a demo about heads.
Im trying to access in order to fix a new static ip for the scan.
Is there a way to reset so the printing gets an dhcp ip add? So far the scanner works fine through USB connection.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello @Rodrigo_cl,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer has encountered a hardware Printhead failure and is not allowing you to scan using a static IP because of this. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue.
Now, due to the error on the front panel of the printer, you will not be able to perform any resets on your machine. But, if your printer is currently on the network with an automatic IP we can utilize the embedded web server to configure a static IP.
Is your printer currently on your wireless or wired network?
Once I know if your printer is currently on the network, I can guide you towards configuring the static IP through the computer. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • HP Photosmart Premium C310 - problem

Have an HP Photosmart Premium C310 wirelessly connected to HP Pavilion dv6 running 64 bit Windows 7.
Have had problems printing from Windows Photo viewer. Job is stored in printer queue and computer say information is being sent to printer my nothing happens. Opening up the printer queue dialog box it shows an error but no way of rectifying or fixing problem.
I don't have this problem printing off word documents or even printing from the HP Photosmart software, just Windows Photo viewer. Have updated drivers, reinstalled and run all diagnostic tools on support site and all or them reports no problems encountered.

  • New ink cartridges in Photosmart C5180 but still not printing clearly. How do I clean the heads?

I changed all 5 ink cartridges on my HP C5180 Photosmart All-in-One printer, but the print is still as if I'm out of black ink.  How do I clean the heads and realign them?

    steelpony5555 wrote:
When your printer stops printing one or 2 of the colors it means your print head is clogged. Tech support will have you remove the print head and clean the copper contacts on the bottom, but that is not enough. Hold the head in a rag and shake it, lots of ink will come out of the inside. I saw one case where the guy held his print head under hot water till it ran clear. Not sure of the long term effects on the head if you do that. Mine has clogged twice now and it has been ink inside the head.
I would absolutely suggest not shaking the printhead.  Ink is required in the printhead, and if air gets into the printhead it can cause printhead failure.  See this page for an ongoing discussion.
For the C5180 this is moot, since the printhead cannot be removed to shake it in the C5180 with its permanant printhead.  I would suggest three levels of printhead cleaning as described in Step 3 of this page for the c5180.

  • Problem Printing to Large Format Printers From SGD

I am having a problem printing to large format printers when using the PDF printing option for SGD. The SDG Universal PDF Viewer recognizes the print format that I specify but on the client device side the pdf that is produced is always Letter size. If a larger format is speciied the client side pdf displays a small portion of it - almost as if it were clipped at the Letter size. Has anyone experienced this. Is it an SGD problem per se or is it an issue with the Ghostscript configuration and if so is ther a way I can change the config?
I am running 4.6.2 in an RHEL5 environment. The application server I am primarily working with is Windows Server 2008. The printers I have tried to print larger formats to are HP CLJ 2800 PS (Tabloid size), HP Designjet Z6100 (E size), and HP DesignJet 4020ps(E size). In all cases the plot appears to have been clipped into a Letter size format on the client device side.
    Thanks,

You may have encountered a limitation with the GARO driver, especially if it is connected to the USB port of the Express. We have an iPF8100 but it is connected directly to our network via Ethernet so I've never tested the printer via USB. But if the driver is anything like the consumer inkjet drivers, there is often issues with the driver determining the printer model on the end of the USB and this stops the printer queue creation.
Have you tried connecting the printer via Ethernet to the Express and then seeing if you can add the printer queue? You will have to set an IP address in the machine if DHCP is not enabled.

Can any one please help/advise on nsolution if any. My HP Officejet J6410 All-in-One has stopped working.

@mikej1, Welcome to the HP Forums
I understand your Officejet J6410 is not fully powering up, and you have caught the printer showing an error code. I hope to help you with some information, some steps to try and my own suggestions.
What comes to my mind when reading through your issue would be that there could be a power problem with the printer, or the printer itself could have a printhead failure, ink system failure, or a general printer failure. To attempt to work on these issues, I would suggest trying the power related guide first, and then try making a copy from the front of the printer if the power will remain on without an error message or code.
When you are going through these steps, and come to resetting the printer, it's best to make sure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power.
