HP Desk top Model # 500314 Sleep Mode/Moniter will not wake up

HP Desk Top Model 500314-  Windows 8.1 OS.
PC will go into sleep mode but after approx 15/20 minutes when I want to wake it up the PC wakes up but  the moniter will not wake up(just a black screen).
I have reset the power settings numerious times with all variations! same results. It is strange that the sleep mode works fine for the first 15 to 20 minutes and then the problem appears?
All other aspects of the PC seem to be working alright. This is a new PC about 2 months old and the problem appeared from the first time it was turned on. All the latest Drivers and Windows updates are installed. HELP!

My monitor goes to sleep and will not wake up.  I try powering off and that will not respond.  I have to unplug the workstation and start back up.  I have turn off sleep to never sleep and now it just goes to sleep when Im working.

    Hello @rosendahl14,

I have read your post on how your monitor goes into sleep mode and will not wake up, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To rule out any sleep mode issues with the monitor, I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
Step 6. Try a different cable connecting your monitor to your computer
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • Computer went into sleep mode and will not wake up!

I have a HP Pavilion a350n which I love and have never had a problem with it.....until now.
When I turn it on I get a black screen with a small window that reads "Warning" "PC entering power saving mode"  Then the screen goes blank and the blue power light on the monitor turns an amber color.  The only way I can turn off the computer is with the blue power button on the front of the tower.
Every "fix" I have come across says to do a System Restore from the Start Menu....How do you get to the start menu when you can't wake up the computer!
I have tried disconnecting the main power cord from the outlet and reconnecting it and turning the computer back on.  Nothing but the same "Warning....."
I tied hitting the F1 button at turning on the unit and nothing......
I checked the monitor connection at the rear of the computer and can't see any bent or broken pins.  Cord looks great too.
I took the back off and was going to try and unseat the memory card and reseat it again, but I don't know much about the inside of a computer and am not sure where the memory card is or what the hec it even looks like!
    Thanks for any help!

First try another monitor. What type and model of monitor do you have now?
If the computer turns off also, it could be shutting down due to hardware issues. Open the case and clean out the dust and then pull the video card and memory and reseat them. Then try to boot up.

  • Sleeping Mountain Lion will not wake up

I have just update to Mountain Lion on my 27inch iMac .
Once it goes to sleep automatcially it will not wake up again. I need to press the power button and reboot the whole system which loses any work I am doing
There was no problem with Lion. The machine would wake up via the mouse click or enter on the keyboard
Has anyone else experience this problem and is ther a setting that neds to be changed somewhere

I suspect now that some widgets, and apps are setting bad hibernatemodes.
    source: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19066192#19066192#19066192
I used pmset -g, and it said I was in hibernatemode 5. I set this (sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0) closed the lid, and it came back up. I set it to 3, and the same. I moved over to my widget, and set it. Checked my mode, and it was back to 5.
I used `man pmset` it said to only use mode 0, 3, and 25! No others! I again set it (sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 25) this time to 25, and it seems to work fine.
I suspect Apple made changes to their power managment, and disabled older modes. They should have set this correctly in our upgrades, instead of letting us figure it out.

Are the troubleshooting steps for fixing a WiFi connection after waking from sleep relevant to a computer that fails to wake up at all?
    Perhaps.

  • Sleep mode crashed - Will not launch in regular or safe mode (Yosemite)

I put Yosemite to sleep last night, and woke up to a frozen screen the next day.
I hard rebooted the computer and the loading bar freezes at about 50%. I have tried multiple reboots and from time to time, the computer will make it to the desktop and the pinwheel but no icons or menu bar.
When booting in safe mode after a long time I also get to the desktop with the pinwheel and no icons or menu bars.
    Very frustrating! 2012 Macbook pro i7 2.7.
Anyone have this - and or find a solution.
    Thanks!

Freezing on sleep wake up is a known concern. 2012 models seem to be the most affected. I have a late 2012 Mac Mini i5 and since upgrading to OS x Yosemite I've had to disable sleep mode.  I have an open case with Apple about the concern and recommend you open one as well - as one user said an Apple tech stated it was a low priority concern. It's a very HIGH PRIORITY concern for me.  My thoughts.

  • I have a macbook air that is not connecting to the internet correctly.  I've had it connected for three weeks, it went into sleep mode, and will not reconnect.  It will connect to other wireless routers (I've tested it) but not the one at my apartment.

The problem is not happening with any other device that I have.  My iPad, iPhone and another laptop all connect fine.  In fact, it's not even the connection.  The computer will connect to the net.  It just will not open any page.  It starts to open and then hangs and hangs.  It will not move.  Weird since it worked great for three weeks and then all of the sudden, nothing.  Click on Safari and I have short hope that it will move and NOTHING!  Any thoughts why it would hang up like this and only with this specific network?

This is a known Lion issue, hopefully solved in 10.7.3. But may not be solved immediatly after updating, that was my case.
To make it work i followed those steps.
    1.- Restart
    2.- Lion 10.7.2 Update
    3.- Uninstall netwokrs
    4.- Shut down
    5.- SMC reset
    6.- Reinstall networks
I dont know whether all the above steps are necessary, but for me the update didn't work properly before SMC reset. (I am running a MBA mid2011)
    Hope it helps,
    Cheers

  • PowerBook Will Not Wake from Sleep - Horizontal Lines on Display

I have a new PowerBook that I purchased last December. When my computer goes into sleep mode, it will not wake up unless I do a hard poweroff by holding in the power key for 5 seconds. When it tries to wake from sleep all I see is my mouse cursor on a black screen or the spinning beach ball. I'm also having problems with graphic applications such as Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator where I'm using lines that are only 1 pixel in length. The lines disappear when I drag them across the screen as though I'm missing a whole row of pixels or half of the line is fainter. I also notice very fine horizontal lines throughout my display. My older PowerBook does not have these lines nor this wake from sleep problem.

Contact tech support, it will need to be sent in for repair, and as long as your hardware warranty is good or you have APP the repair will cost nothing. unfortunatly this is basically your only option, unless resetting NVRAM takes care of it. to do that turn off com. hold down option, apple(2 key's left of space bar)and o, f, then turn on while holding those down. when firmware opens up type in reset-nvram, press enter then type in reset-all(include the dash in both)
this will reboot com. if this does not take care of it a repair is needed.

  • After installing mavericks, the iMac will not wake from sleep properly (at all)

I've upgraded to 10.9 (late 2012 21" iMac), and I notice in the morning when the iMac has been sleeping overnight, it will not wake up,
During the day, if it sleeps for a few hours, it seems fine, and wakes normally, prompting me to type my password,
In the morning however, I hit a key (on my wireless keyboard), and the display wakes up, I get a dark grey screen, and see the loading circle (not the beachball) in the middle, and see the cursor for a few seconds, before it then disappears, and reappears.
    This cycle repeats itself,
The 'fix' is to do a forced shutdown by holding the powwer button until it shuts down, and then restart.
Anyone else find this problem/find a solution?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Maverick will not wake up from sleep

Maverick will not wake up from sleep. i dont see any related issues. maybe i am the only one? Ive been trying to run maverick for the last 2 months. I thought everything was fine after I erased, reformated and partitioned the HD and installed Maverick on a clean drive......  and then i get the ? startup disk. And then when it does run, I cant let it go to sleep. It will not wake up from sleep. I get the spinning beach ball of death everytime. I leave my computer on and run to the grocery store and come back........ I have to shut my computer off from the control strip and push the start button, every time.
Anyone know if this will damage my computer??
I have selected the HD in the preferences startup; I've unplugged it for several minutes; started up in S mode; zapped the P ram; ran permissions; you name it. im at a loss.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Should i buy another Mac? I cant afford one in this economy.

I suggest you use the Recovery Partition Disk Utility to check the hard disk and then re-install the OS from there.

  • IPhone 1.1.4 will not wake from sleep mode

    Hi all,
I have an iPhone with 1.1.4 firmware. The problem that I have is that the phone will not wake from sleep mode by pressing the "home" button. I have to press both the "home" and "sleep/power" buttons and hold them for 6 seconds for the phone to restart. I did restore the phone twice - did not solve the problem. Then, one day, I left it charging for about 3 days and when I came back it started working fine. Not for long though( After about a week of normal usage the wake up problem came back. I don't know what to do. I don't think it's the software problem, since I did complete restoration 2 times.
If the phone is connected to a charger or computer - it wakes up fine.
    Thanks, Gene K

    rimini,
When you've restored the iPhone, have you tried setting it up as a new phone? This would truly eliminate software as a possibility.
If setting it up as a new phone doesn't correct the issue, it's probably time for service: apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/

  • Moniter Will not start says It's sleeping

When I try to start my MAC PRO most recent edition Mountain Lion, the Moniter will not start. I get an error message that ironically say,
that the moniter is sleeping, please adjust with System Preferences. Well, with out a functioning moniter how can I even see them?  I tried
lots of things, including trying to re -start, and holding shift and restarting holding Option, +P+R keys. No luck. Any Ideas? (PS, moniter does start, and the green light comes on, but screen is black, except it briefly gives me that error message.

    Hi amize,
When you say the same problem still exists, is it both the NI License Manager and LabVIEW that are still having the issues? When you open the License Manager and it is not actually opening does that mean you cannot interact with it or the licenses never finish loading in the tree view on the left hand side. If you do have access to the Options menu, open preferences and make sure you have deselected "Use Volume License Servers". At some point, if the windows is not interactive, it should timeout with attempting to make its server connection, especially if you are disconnected from any network connection.
Also, how long do you wait when you open LabVIEW and see the setup screen? Does it just become unresponsive?
If you could follow up with that information it would be much appreciated

  • Will not wake from sleep mode

When I close then open the lid on my MacBook, it will not wake up from sleep mode.  I have to reboot by holding down the power button for 10 sec.  When it restarts, it takes a long time to get past the gray screen with the apple logo.  I also have this same problem when it goes into sleep mode, when left idle.  I have since changed the settings so it will not go into sleep mode when idle in system preferences.  I have reset PRAM and SMC, but the problem still persists.

I have the same problem, intermittently.  I think it has something to do with full-screen mode, which I use intermittently.  Have you noticed this happening only when you are in a full-screen app?
I also have a MacBook Pro from 2011, and I know for sure my MagSafe power adapter is fine and not part of the problem.
I have noticed a few things that may be hints at what is happening:
one time, (all??) while my screen was basking in the glow of sunlight from the side, I saw that the screen pixels were indeed "on", that the back-light of the screen was just off.
Which led me to the conclusion that my MacBook Pro was indeed waking from sleep, the screen was just not lighting up.
But that theory was disproved this morning, when when waking from sleep, the screen was black, except for my cursor. My cursor was completely visible on a black background.  Huh??  It was like some software was putting up a black modal dialog over the whole screen. Also, the Apple Logo on the back of the laptop screen was fully lit -- meaning the backlight was on.  The machine was awake (curson moving on a black background), and the screen was fully back-lit.
I'm not sure yet how consistent this behavior is...  I will take more careful notes each time this problem happens in the future...  But, it looks like I have rogue software that is trying to make my machine look like it is sleeping.
To "capture" the culprit I think I could set up a hot-key command that takes a snapshot of all running processes in Activity Monitor. This could show what processes are running when "waking" from sleep. nabbing the culprit?
I use Snapz Pro. That is non-standard software running with control over screen functions. Maybe Snapz Pro has a problem?  I doubt it, but maybe, because it has hooks into background tasks with video. Snapz Pro is my only 32-bit process. Could Snapz Pro be the cause?  I use Snapz Pro all the time.
The problem seems to be related to Full-Screen mode.  Could it be possible that full-screen apps sometimes have problems returning from sleep?  I know there are viewControllers responsible for handling events when waking. Could the symptoms of not waking from sleep be caused by bugs in full-screen apps?
