Hp deskjet 1050

do i always have to keep my printer connected via the usb port? i dont use it that much  and wondered what would happen if i put it away and reconnected it when i am ready to use it again?

Hi there judycee,
You should not have to keep your printer plugged in via USB all the time. I would suggest leaving it plugged into a power source. Just in case any cycling must be done to keep the printheads clean and clear.
Best of Luck!

  • HP DeskJet 1050 ALL-IN-ONE J410 series Printer Scanner stopped working suddenly

About a month back Scanner in my printer-scanner (DeskJet 1050 All-In-One J410 series) stopped working with a message on screen " HP Deskjet 1050 J410 series was not found". But the Printer was working fine. I have so far taken following steps with results against each -
    a) HP Print & Scan doctor (HPPSdr.exe) showed HP Twain Scan faulty.
    b) On advice from HP helpline, tried HP Deskjet Full Feature Software & Drivers (DJ1050_J410_1313.exe). It required uninstalling before installing. But uninstalling failed to happen.
    c) Finally, with HP Printer Install Wizard (hppiw.exe) help it showed that Full Feature HP Software & Drivers is now installed. For its functionality, it called for its testing on 'print test page' and 'test scan'. After this, printer shows printing jobs in queue but will not print. At present it is limited to photocopying only without printing & scanning.
    d) I am caught in a loop, because at the end of hppiw.exe message is '...if tests are not successful, HP recommends using HPPSdr.exe to diagnose and fix any problem' i.e. back to point (a) above.
Any solution to the above problem?

    HP Deskjet 1050 All-in-One Printer - J410a
I am connected to a computer but would also like to connect it to my laptop wirelessly.
Can't do it.  Must be doing something wrong.  Need help thanks.

    Hi @5468,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are wondering how to connect your HP Deskjet 1050 All-in-One Printer - J410a to a wireless connection. I am happy to look into this for you!
According to your printer's specifications and the Setup Poster, this printer can only be connected to a computer via a USB 2.0 printer cable connection. This printer does not have wireless capabilities.
Hope this answers your question, and have a great day!

  • Hp 61 cartridge (refill?)/hp deskjet 1050, series J410, landfill printer/scanner

I bought an hp deskjet 1050 (J410 series) printer/scanner, about 3-4 weeks ago, at Future Shop, for $29.99. I used all the ink in the hp 61 black ink cartridge, called a local outlet for a large cartridge refilling business & was told they could refill it. They did.
Now, the printer/scanner is displaying the attached message & refusing to print.
What is the opposite of "green"? Has hp not heard the terms "reduce, reuse and recycle"?
Is hp really so short-sighted that they hired engineers to design printers and cartridges so that the printer won't work after the ink in a cartridge is used?
A new hp deskjet 1050 printer/scanner costs $29.99 at Future Shop. An hp 61 black inkjet cartridge costs $19.99. Do they really intend for the printer to go in a landfill after the ink is used? I used to think hp produced quality products - since I bought my first hp 21 calculator over 35 years ago.
I tried getting rid of the warning message (with the "close" button disabled) by starting Task Manager and ending the task; but the printer still won't print. Do you know of another workaround?
At this point, I'm thinking of returning the printer & shopping for a better alternative.
    Thanks.

I would suggest if the message comes up again just say "no".   While HP does not prohibit refilling they are trying to crack down on counterfeiting, where refilled/reman cartridges are sold as genuine HP.
BTW, the refill place likely took your used-once cartridge and gave you a different replacement.  If you had gotten your cartridge back the printer would have recognized it and not shown this message.  I would suggest you contact the refiller for a replacement if cleaning the cartridge contacts as shown here (for a different series, but same principle) does not resolve the issue.
On a related note, I once donated a printer to the local high school.  Some time later I got a call from the teacher that it was not working properly.  They had replaced the #57 cartridge with a refilled one that had bad color in yellow (now green).  We got a replacement and had one of the colors missing.  Finally the third replacement worked.  I asked why they bought refills and the teacher said they were cheaper.  I asked if they were 1/3 the price....  You do get what you pay for.
BTW, I do not work for HP or represent them, I am just a volunteer on this board.

hie....am using the hp deskjet 1050 printer and scanner ....ealier i was able to print all kind of text(black and color)....but now am unable to print text in black....why is it so?

    Hi,
Please go to HP Printer Assistant (you can see this in Start Menu->HP->HP 3540 Series).Select 'Set Preferences'.Go to Layout tab and select Advanced tab. Go to Document Options and select 'Black Ink Only' (for black prints only).
Colour Only doesnot makes sense. If you want to print the colour, just reset the above option.
By default, HP printer prints black area with black and color with color.
    Hope this helps.

  • Printing pictures on deskjet 1050

When I print picture at a 4x6 picture paper size it will print a gap in the edge of the paper, when I change the setting to fit the page it still prints that gap. I have tried changing the printer setting to the size of paper but there is no change, what can I change to in order to get the printer to fit the whole page of the 4x6 picture paper

    Hello stwebster,
I am sorry to have to tell you this but the Deskjet 1050 does not have bordeless printing capabilities, as it does not have a starwheel assembly. This piece of equipement is needed to transport the paper when printing bordeless. As your printer does not have the piece it needs to have a border on the picture to hold on to the paper. If you really need an HP printer that does support bordeless printer make sure it has Photosmart in the name, as these units are meant to print photo's and most of them will print borderless. To make sure always check the specification of the unit.

  • IMac and HP Deskjet 1050 Compatibility

Hi, I'm new to iMac. Just got my iMac with OS X Lion. I have trouble in printing using my HP Deskjet 1050 (all-in-one). Downloaded the HP driver from the following link:
      ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL39593/dj-96583-8/HP_Lion_Ink_SW_v12.1 3.17.dmg
I was able to install it and add my printer as well and I kept it as my default printer. During installation, iMac recognized and did not throw any error. When I tried to print a doc from "Pages", I keep getting the  message "will print when printer is available". Printer is connected and switched on. Can someone tell me what is missing here? Thanks.

My hp printer is now compatible to mac now. I scanned an image and then printer started working.

I have downloaded the new drivers and I am able to print with my HP deskjet 1050 J410 but I am not able to scan anydocumants. I cannot open the HP printer assistant window. The error reads as follows:
Adobe reader could not open HPSPProgress.hta because it is not a supported file type or the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
I am not sure if this has to do with my default programs or what is going on. I am currently using windows 8 64-bit.

    Hi,
The doftware is fully copatible with Windows 8, the issue appear due to wrong configuration of your OS to wrongly launch HTA files using Adobe Reader.
Follow the steps below, that should solve the problem:
Click WinKey (the key with the Windows Logo) + X keys, then open the Control Panel.
    Select Programs.
Under Default Programs select Make a file type always open in a specific program.
Lecate and double click .hta from the list (HTML Application will appear within its description).
Select Microsoft (R) HTML Application host.
If such an option won't appear click More Options.
Click Look for another app on this PC in the bottom of the list.
browse to C:\windows\system32 and select mshta.exe
Click Open, close any window and try openning the HP software again.

  • How to print custom invitation size on Deskjet 1050 J410?

I have a HP Deskjet 1050 J410. I am trying to print invitations on 5.5x7.5 cardstock. I went to change the paper size and I don't have that option for my size paper. Is there a way for me to input the size or maybe update my printer?

Please read this post then provide some details.   What operating system? What program are you printing from?
It does not appear that the J410 allows custom paper size, at least in the Windows 7 version, but O**bleep**u hagaki is 7.87" x 5.83" which may be close enough.  I would suggest using plain paper cut to your size for test pieces, fiddle a bit with the right/left and top/bottom margins to get the desired results.  [OK, the naughty word filter does not like the name, but pick the one as shown in the picture below :-)]

  • HP Deskjet 1050 suddenly won't let me crop borders

    Hello,
I've had this Deskjet 1050 for a long time and it has always worked flawlessly. Suddenly, it will not let me adjust the borders on photos. I am trying to crop and save a few photos from my high school yearbook. I've done this many times in the past with no problems whatsoever. Of course, with a yearbook, you can't ever close the cover all the way down, but it still always cropped yearbook photos in the past, so why suddenly no-go?
Instead of the usual straight line with arrows at both ends, when hovering over the border, I am getting a smaller "squareish" image that won't let me grab the border and drag it in. BUT, if I just put a single photo or a junk mail envelope in and scan it, I can crop it just fine. The only difference is, the cover is closed all the way.
If this quirk would be normal by design, I'd say fine, but why suddenly after all these years?
I would so appreciate any ideas from you helpful folks.
    T'care,
    Mike

Hi palmetto, Thanks for providing the screen shots.
I had tried scanning on a Lab printer with a single document and one with the lid open and was able to crop the picture  both ways. So I am not sure why your software isn't allowing the crop. It shouldn't make a difference whether you are scanning a single page or a booklet for the scanning software to allow you to crop the image. It might be software related. Try different settings in the software to see if it makes a difference.
When you scan the document, you are clicking the crop icon and hoovering over the little black squares right, to crop the picture?
Try changing the Scan Size then Scan Entire Document to see if it make to a different size es a difference.
You could always scan the photo, save it, then open it in Paint under All Programs, crop and save the image from there as a work around.
    Thank You.

  • Can't get my deskjet 1050 printer to work as wireless

How do I to use my deskjet 1050 printer as wireless by connecting it to my router? Windows 8 64-bit. It keeps saying, I need to install the wireless connection procedure, but I can't find anything like that. My router is supposed to be able to turn any printer into a wireless.

Even though this printer isn't wireless, there is a way to to use it wirelessly! Here's what you need:Google Chrome on whatever computer you're trying to use the printer froma Google account so you can sign into chrome DO THESE FIRST STEPS ON THE COMPUTER THAT THE PRINTER IS ALREADY CONNECTED TO VIA USB CABLE okay so what you have to do is open up chrome and in the top right hand corner there is a little button looks like three stacked horizontal linesclick that and sign into google chrome (a gmail account works or create a new account)then what you have to do is click that same button and go to settingsscroll all the way down and click advanced settingsonce again, scroll all the way down until you get to Google Cloud Printclick manage and then click add printersit will go to another screen and you should be able to search/add the hp deskjet (this may take a little patience)once everything is connected, all that is left is to print go to the customize and control button (that 3 horizontal lines button in the top right hand corner in crhome) go to settings > advanced settings > cloud print > manage and click the hp deskjeton the left hand side click print and click upload file to printthen pick whatever fille you want to print and WAHLAA! its printing (as long as ur printer is powered on of course)this way you can print wirelessly without losing formatting like you would if you uploaded it to google docsnow you can print to this printer from any computer as long as you are signed in from chrome and the printer is on! MAGIC hope that helps(:
