HP Deskjet 2514 will not scan, everything else works
I have a Deskjet 2514 all-in-one.
The printing and copying services work just fine.
However, everytime I try to scan, the power button begins to blink.
I tried to print a test page and it printed some kind of error code page.
I've tried unplugging it, waiting and re-plugging. It is not in a surge protector, but in the wall.
Everyone in the house who uses this all-in-one use Windows 7.
I need to be able to scan, so please give me solutions I can use.

I have a Deskjet 3510 that worked great wirelessly on my old Mac with Snow Leopard. I recently purchased a new IMac with Mavericks OS 10.9.5. The printer will print wirelessly but not scan wirelessly. It will only scan with the USB cable attached. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest HP software. When I disconnect the USB it says the wireless connection cannot be found. I reset the wireless connection and it is good. What am I missing here?

View Solution.Thanks very much for your help with this. I followed your steps and it is now working. The main problem I saw was that the default setting was "airprint" which kept coming up each time. Needed to be changed to Bonjour. Even when I deleted the printer and then added it back in as you suggested, "airprint" as the Kind kept coming up. Once I changed it, all was good. Thanks again.

SG300-28P: System LED not on. everything else working.
Hi Everyone,
Nice to meet you all.
I received an used SG300-28P today and immediately I found its System LED never lits. I upgraded the firmware to the latests but did not make any difference. So far I have configured the switch for my environment and everything is working fine including VLAN, L3 routing and PoE works on all ports.
I am puzzled, not sure what's wrong with it. In the System Summary of the Web GUI it indicates the System LED is constantly on. But the physical one is just dead (never lits including boot)
I hope its just the LED itself, the switch is definately out of warranty. What diagnostics can I run myself to understand it?

If everything is working properly on the switch, then you shouldn't be worried about the system led. The system led itself is simply not working.
This is the information you need to know about the system led:
Off - If the system led is off, it means the switch is not powered on (which in your case is false, since you told us the switch is working as it should, so that means you have a faulty led)
Green - If the system led is green, it means the switch working normally. If the system led is green and it flashes constantly, it means the switch is using the factory default IP address (192.168.1.254) to access to the switch. If it is solid green, it means that the switch has either an IP assigned via DHCP, or statically by the administrator.
Amber - If the system led is amber, it means there is a problem with the switch
As you can see, you won't be able to get information about the system led when is green or amber, since it is not working.
I would suggest that you properly configure system logs on the switch, perform constantly backups to the running/startup configuration, and keep track of which IP address you are using to access the switch GUI/CLI, that way if you forget your IP address, or if there is a problem with the switch, you know where to find the correct information.

This an IPOD I bought used. Everything else works fine. It syncs to my computer and plays my music but will not connect to the USB interface in my car. My wife's IPOD, which seems to be identical, works fine. I should say it connects but then immediately disconnects. Any ideas?
Then my last suggestion is to Reset it, while connected to the BMW Audio.
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
Then release the buttons
Select your preferred language.

Something to chek, open a document, press CMMAND P, this will bring up the print screen, you can click on the arrow to expand the options
Then click on the presets and make sure that the preset you want is selected.
From the preset drop menu you can select Plain paper best or fast draft, which should then be color.

Canon MX870 will print wirelessly but will not scan and can't launch EX navigator
My laptop recently crapped out on me the hard drive failed. It's an old Macbook pro vintage with 4gig memory and running OS X maverics. After I got a new hard drive put in and restored my computer using a time machine backup I noticed the Tech had gone ahead and installed a newer operating system 10.9.2 and now I cannot get my Canon pixma MX870's software to work. After going to the Canon site and downloading newer drivers and wrangling with it for three hours I finally was able to get it to print wirelessly somehow, don't ask me how. But it will print wireless however it still will not scan even if I use image capture it sees no printer available and the ex navigator software keeps showing an error message it cannot launch! How bogus! Macs have always just worked period. No problem but now even when I go back to my old install disc for the Canon pixma MX870 it says that the software is not supported by this operating system .....REALLY... this printer is only about three years old! I'm shocked that apple could actually go ahead and make new versions of maverics that don't support printer software from two years ago..... REALLY you're kidding right! Whats next you won't support software from two months ago! I guess we have to just buy a new printer every month.
This machine is starting to remind me of a Windows laptop what a nightmare. Jobs must be rolling in his grave. This is just utterly pathetic. This is the beginning of the end for Apple. I've always been impressed with how easy it is to use apple stuff but this is the second time I've updated my operating system only to find I have to go through **** just to get the freakin' printer to work. Come on guys somebody show me an easy fix here and if any body says it's the printer companies responsibility to update their drivers and software I think I'm going to puke. I have already downloaded the newest Canon software for the MX870 and it can't launch I was able to get the printer to print but can't get the scanner to work and the solutions menu is now useless.Well you are right Steve my complaint is with Canon for not making it easier to install their necessary updates if you upgrade your OS system but it seems that when Apple is constantly making new upgrades available they might want to add in the heads up "OH by the way, if you install this new OS it's likely your printer won't work any more if it's more than three years old." along side the constant "Updates are available for your computer" they should really have it read "Updates are available for your computer, proceed at your own risk" No I'm sorry the whole system is geared towards making people get so frustrated that they eventually give up and buy a new printer. I'm not sure what 5 hours of my time is worth but I am sure that if were getting paid by the hour it would be enough to buy a new Canon comparable to the MX870. So by the way if other people are having this same problem, which of course thousands of them are, the solution is first download the newer driver, then download the new wireless setup assistant and then figure out how to use it (good luck with that), it took me about two hours just to find the access points on the printer and to be honest I just got lucky eventually. Then you must download the newer "Scan Gear" software if you want to scan. But it seems that the new "Scan Gear" software got my whole solutions menu to start working again so there you go, you can be a white night for somebody else who is having this same problem. I must admit that after wrangling for hours I continued to go back to the forums and eventually found a link to the canon software update page provide by some very nice girl who was very helpful for some other guy and the link took me to the same page I had been to several times already but I then downloaded the "Scan Gear" software and was up and running again. So thank you to that nice girl and in the spirit of her helpfulness I offer this to the thousands of other poor bastards that cannot get their MX870 to scan

this worked for my HP printer/scanner:
Try:
uninstall all printer manufacturer apps and "utilities"
go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
if your printer is there in the column on the left:
control-click on your printer
select "Reset Printing System..." and "reset" in the dialog that follows
if your printer is not in the column on the left, go to the next step.
do a factory reset on your printer. You'll have to consult the printer manual for how.
if you connect to your printer/scanner via wifi, reset the wifi system:
power down everything: modem, router, computer, and printer
power up each item in turn in the same order: modem, router, computer, and printer. Let each power up completely before moving on to the next
enter your wifi password in your printer so it can connect to the network
if you do not connect via wifi, go to the next step
go back to printers & scanners and it should see your printer and download a driver for it from Apple.If it won't, then try going to the HP website and there may be a new software package for your printer that is compatible with Mavericks. Download and install it. -

I have a hp psc 750 connected via usb cord to my hp pavilion dv3 running windows 7 64 bit. I can copy and print, but it will not scan. When I try it says I need a WIA driver needed please reinstall with the CD or get it from online. Online says I don't need any drivers when connected via usb (very frustrating!). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer. I've tried both a partial and a hard reset of the printer. I have checked that the WIA, Shell Hardware Detection and Remote Procedure Call are all "started" and set to "automatic." I have stopped and restarted all of them as directed in other forums all with no avail. I have downloaded and run the "Scan doctor" from HP and it can't even detect a scanner. I am seriously at a loss and want to throw my printer across the room and as the warranty is no longer relevant I can't get a real HP human to help me without paying money (not going to happen). Any help would be appreciated!
p.s. this printer was hooked up to another computer long, long ago and it's scan settings were set to that computer which is now completely dead so there is no way to change those settings even after "resetting" the printer. It still wants to scan to a specific program on said old computer. I have a feeling that is part of the issue, but have no idea how to "unset" the original settings considering even after I've done partial and hard resets, it still wants to scan to that location.

I have provided a post from @pcwizard where he sets the Remote Procedure Call to manual and also the Shell Hardware Detection.
I would try this to see if it makes a difference.
Restart the Dependencies services.
This is a Windows issue and I would highly recommend to contact the computer manufacturer or Microsoft to see if they can resolve this issue if that didn't work.

HP Envy 4500 will not scan to Mac
HP Envy 4500 will not scan to MAC. Printing works just fine but when I try to scan the printer says scanning but never completes the scan, there is no error message. I tried uninstall and reinstall of the software, upgraded to Mac OS Yosemite and tried re-install again, no luck.

From your description, it soudns like we may be haivng a osftware issue. Let's use the following steps to remove currenlty installed software, clean up the Mac, and reinstall the software again;
Scrub/ Uninstall
Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
* Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
Click uninstall.
Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon ( ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan dialog box opens.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. > HP-ENVY-4500-series_v12.34.0.dmg
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can the printer driver

How will having another icloud email benefit me. I have my work email which is all i require, but had to set up a @me account to get email on my Macbook.

My notes are duplicated, i have to delete my emails individually on all devices so whenever i put my phone on, all the emails i have deleted at work re-appear on my phone and again the same thing happens on my Macbook pro. I seem to spend all my time deleting emails 3 times.
Is there something simple in the set up of these that i am missing?

I have installed the updates for my HP Photosmart All-in-One c309a. It prints, but will not scan. Tells me to update - I did that, but still won't scan. Any suggestions to make the scanner work?
This all worked perfectly with my old 2008 MacBook Pro.Have you tried scanning from Image Capture or Preview?

New color laserjet pro mfp m177 will not scan or copy
Product is new. The problem is that this unit will not scan or copy. I downloaded the latest drivers, but they would not install completely. I also ran thru some trouble shooting guides on the HP website, but still it doesn't work. It tries to make a copy, but it acts like it starts and then stops without completing the function. It's almost like the scanner mechanism is stuck. Anyone ever have this problem with a brand new printer?

Firstly, do you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or is it in a surge protector or power bar? Even if you have been using a surge protector/power bar all this time and you feel it is not the cause, please connect it to a wall outlet just so we can eliminate the power source as the root cause. In this document you will see, ISSUE: Problems or issues may arise when an HP LaserJet series printer is connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a power strip, or a surge protector
^ This is not limited to Laserjet printers. If the issue persists, I would suggest download and installing the most recent firmware for your unit. You can download the firmware update utility here:HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw Firmware UpdateNote: You will need to connect the printer via USB to update the firmware, as any interruption during the firmware update can cause more issues. We can check a few other things, since the scan communication itself seems to be working okay, just not from the front of the printer. I'd like to check the Scan Settings on the front panel with in the HP Solution Center.
Once you're in the HP Solution Center, please click on Settings along the bottom, click Scan Settings, then click Scan To... Setup.
You will then see a screen that has Available Scan Shortcuts on the left and Front Panel List (Scan To button) on the right. If there are no options on the right, please add the scan options you'd like from the left side by clicking on it and then clicking the Add button in the middle. If you add one by mistake just click on it and then click Remove. Once you've added the options click Update the Device and then OK on the next screen.
If there are options on the right side when you open it, please Remove all of the options, click Update the Device, and then go back to the Settings screen, before following the same process described above to add the options to the right side.
Once you've added the options check the front panel of the printer. If they still aren't there, please turn the printer off for 30 seconds before turning it back on (use the power button not the power cord) and try the Scan option again.

This is because HP has not provided network USB drivers to allow scanning when the all-in-one is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme.
HP has only provided drivers to allow printing when the all-in-one is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. To be fair, other manufacturers who offer all-in-one products do the same thing.
If you need to scan documents, you will need to connect the all-in-one to the USB port on your computer....until HP offers full featured network USB drivers. Check with HP Support for possible progress in this regard.
If your all-in-one happens to offer wireless connection options or wired Ethernet options to connect to your network, you should have full functionality that way.

Can I copy a song then change the settings?
After copying a song from one playlist to another, is there a way to make iTunes think it's a different song? I want to change some equalization settings on the copy but not the original.
