Hp deskjet 3055a no black ink

Hi, I am a newbie to this forum, just looking for some advice please.
I have acquired a preowned HP Deskjet 3055a all in one printer (used once).
The black ink cartridge although showing not empty would not print, the colour cartridge is working fine.
Steps Taken So
Purchased a refill kit, followed guidelines, stilll not printing
Purchased a compatible black cartridge, still not printing
Reset the printer, stilll not printing
Cleaned the contacts on both cartridges and printer head, stilll not working
The printer was only used once for a dissitation print off so I was advised and worked with no problems.
I guess the first point of advice would be try a genuine HP cartridge, I just wanted to check I wasn't missing something before I do so?
Thanks in advance foor any help or advice you can provide.
Ray

Hi @RayLittlewood
Welcome to the HP Forums, we are here to help!
The following document addresses quality issues, but as you will see Solution one recommends using genuine HP cartridges. You can certainly skip this steps for now and ensure you have tried all of the other suggestions before purchasing a new cartridge, but the issue may very well be the cartridge you are using; Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Deskjet 3050A (J611) All-in-One Printer Series.
With this being said, it could also be an issue with the printer. Solution seven, step five recommends you clean the the area around the ink nozzle. Keep in mind there could be something inside the printer that is preventing the ink from going from the ink to the printer. Perhaps checking inside where the cartridge sits might reveal something.
I hope this helps.

  • Deskjet 3056A E-all-in-one not printing black ink properly

Hello, I've had my Deskjet 3056A E-all-in-one printer for 2 years and didn't have any problems until about 3 months ago. My black ink cartridge suddenly stopped printing properly. It started to seem like I needed to replace the ink, so I did, but that did not fix the problem. It still seems like the ink level is really, really low sometimes, but it's a brand new cartridge. I couldn't even align the printhead because the black ink wouldn't print. Then I cleaned the printhead and cleaned the ink smear. When the test papers printed after the cleanings the black ink would only print half of the line of letters or numbers, or it was just choppy and faded. I checked the ink levels and it says both of my ink cartridges are almost full still. I was thinking about replacing the cartridge again, but I don't want to waste the money if it won't fix the problem. The color cartridge works completely fine, just to clarify.

If the black cartridge is in warranty you could contact HP Phone Support

  • HP 802 Black ink cartridge not compatible with HP Deskjet 1050 Printer - J410a [Model: CH346A].

I am Sharjil Ahmed from Kolkata, India, and had bought theHP Deskjet 1050 All-in-One Printer - J410a [Product Model: CH346A] from an online shopping website www.crazeal.com on 18 December, 2011, where the product information consisted that I will be provided HP 62 small black ink cartridge HP 62 small tri-color ink cartridge along with the product. However, the box consisted of HP 61 small black ink cartridge HP 61 small tri-color ink cartridge.
I also registered my product on 03 January, 2012, and found out that the ink cartridges which are compatible with my printer are HP 802 Black ink cartridge (CH563ZZ) and purchased the same, but when i tried to take a printout a message appeared that HP 802 Black ink cartridge is not compatible. Hence I had contacted the HP service centre of our area where I was informed that the cardridges compatible with my printer is HP 61 only and the hardware of my printer does not support HP 802.
Please help as I have not been able to find HP 61 anywhere in my locality.

  • Deskjet 3520 e-all in one printer not printing black ink

I just installed a new hp 564xl black ink cartridge with an expiration date of 01/30/2017. Low and behold the black  is not printing and the printer was purchased in 08/2012. I did everything that was suggested in the support forums and to no avail did anything work. The three other colors print out fine except the black. Based upon everyone's answers I guess there is no repair for it and I should scrap this unit after three years of constant use. I would think by now there would of been a solution posted to this problem but Hp has failed us. I've been using HP printer products since I purchased my first computer in 1992 and never had a problem with them until now.  My second printer which was purchased in 2004 is still going strong, except that it is not wireless. If I need to purchase a new wireless printer, I'm sorry to say that  I might have to look at the competition. If anyone knows of a solution I would appreciate it.

The post here has links to a troubleshooting document for the Deskjet 3520.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue please contact HP Support, even if the printer is no longer under warranty.   If the above does not give satisfactory results then please post back here and mention the country you are in.

  • Deskjet 3070A - Why can't I print only black ink?! (Wastes so much ink/money!)

Hello. I have already posted this in another forum and the conclusion was to post it again here. The full post and replies are here. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Ink-Toner-Cartridge-Printhead-Issues/Deskjet-3070A-Why-can-t-I-print-on... (will open in new window)
Basically, printing in black only seems to use almost as much color ink, forcing me to buy ALL the cartridges when I need only black. I understand that some color ink is used to keep the heads clean, but seems that quite a lot is used. I print "black only" but maybe Im not doing something right in the print setup or maybe this is a known issue. In any event, it is way too expensive to buy all cartridges and will have to scrap this printer if I cant fix it. Hope there is a solution.
    Best,
    R

    Hi rdbot,
To setup black ink only I would recommend the following:
    Open TextEdit.
    Click on File, then Print.
    Select the printer.
Then next to presets, select Show Presets (it will be in a drop-down menu).
Look for Color/Quality and select it.
Then you can find options for black and white only.
You can see this guide, OS X Yosemite: Save your print settings to use later, as an example.
I noticed that there is not any full feature software and drivers for this printer for Mac OS X. So you will need to use the built-in driver through Apple. I would make sure all your Apple updates have been completed. Update OS X and App Store apps on your Mac.
If that still does not work, I would also recommend, resetting the print system, and then verify and repair disk permissions.
If you need to download the driver manually, you can find it at this website, HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
Hope this clears things up for you, and have a wonderful day!

  • Deskjet 3520 All-in-One: Black Ink NOT printing....

I am highly irritated right now. My printer is 3 weeks out of warranty. I just spent $60+ in new ink cartridges today. The color cartridges are working fine, but the black ink does not work. The printer acts like it's printing, but nothing shows up on the paper. I see multiple people with this problem on this forum and other forums. I called tech support....went through an hour of "troubleshooting", then got disconnected. Called back and waited 45 minutes for another representative to tell me that he would sell me another printer for $100+ including some start-up ink cartridges that won't last me very long. I JUST bought $60 in ink cartridges TODAY. I have tried to take the printhead off with no luck. I can't get the printer apart in order to take the printhead off. I was going to attempt to clean it myself, but it's impossible to take the thing apart.
I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with hp's customer service and feel that they should back up their product when it stops working only 3 weeks after the warranty expires. I would love if someone could tell me how I can fix this problem, since the printer is in basically new condition and has brand new ink.
It's unfortunate that these products aren't made to last longer than a year. I will not buy another hp product.

  • DeskJet 5550 won't print after installing new black ink cartridge.

I recently got a new Dell computer with Windows Vista 64-bit OS.  Printer was working fine until I replaced the black ink cartridge.  It printed out the check page like normal after installing the cartridge but will not print anything else now.  Not even a test page.  I tried pulling the cartridge out and putting it back in.  Tried unplugging the plugs on the back of the printer and plugging back in.  Tried turning the printer off and back on.  Also tried restarting the computer.  I downloaded the HP Print Diagnostic Report and it could not find any problems.  Could there be a problem with the ink cartridge itself?
    This question was solved.

Well first I went and bought another black ink cartridge to rule out the cartridge being the problem.  That was not it.  So then I unplugged the printer and cleaned it thoroughly and plugged it back in.  Still didn't work.  So I went into the properties on my printer and started messing with the settings.  FINALLY I FIXED IT!  I clicked on the Advanced Tab and then clicked on Print Processor.  I then changed it to WinPrint and retried the Print Test Page on the General Tab and it worked!  Woo Hoo!

  • New ink cartridges in Deskjet 5525 but black won't print or prints in light gray

I installed new ink cartridges. Black prints as very light grey or not at all in some instances

    Hi @rhare
I see you are having troubles with your black ink.
Please complete all of the steps in the following document; Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages Although I hope this resolves the issue, it might not. As you have a 5525, If the issue persists, I would suggest calling HP Phone Support, even if your printer is out of warranty, as you may require a replacement printer.
The number to call HP is 1-800-474-6836 for Canada and US, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
Please let me know if the document resolves the issue, or if you called HP and the outcome of the call. Thanks.

  • Missing Lines when printing, scanning or copying HP Deskjet 3055A- need to use cartidge guarantee

I have a HP Deskjet 3055A and since I put a new HP cartidge my printing, scanning and copying miss some lines. In other words, some lines are printed and some are not. This only happens with the black cartidge and not when I print in other colours.  I read the HP guidlines for " Streaks or Missing Lines in the Patterns or Bars on the Extended Self-test Report" and I follow the whole proceeding, including the cleaning of the ink cartidge and NOTHING HAS WORKED.  As the cartidge was recently bought I want it to be replaced. That's what the garantee is for, isn't it?
So my question is how to proceed now?

    Welcome to the forums chsl
I saw your post about your Deskjet 3055A now showing print quality issues since changing the ink cartridges. I understand you have done some troubleshooting however, I wanted to publicly post the guide I would recommend for the problem you're having.
If there are any steps you haven't attempted, please give them a try!

If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions: click here.

  • HP Deskjet 3055a bad printing

De kleurencartridge zit nog voor 1/4 vol.  ---------------- By printing in color the quality is very poor. If i print multiple pages, the first one is good, but the last one is terrible. The colors aren't right. Red become orange, blue become lightblue. The color cartridge is 1/4 filled. The problem doesn't present when printing only in black.

    Hi @kazmount,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are getting the message that you are out of toner for your HP Deskjet 3055a. I am sorry for this frustration, but I am happy to look into this for you!
I read on another post of yours that copying and scanning is OK, and I am glad for that.
This printer takes ink cartridges, not toner. As toner is for Laserjet printers.

  • Not printing Black ink at all!

    Hi
I'm in the UK and have recently in the past few months bought a new HP Deskjet 2540 All-In-One printer, I'm trying to print things out in black and white and it will not work!
I have followed all troubleshooting tips including printing a Quality Diagnostics Page, re-alligning the cartridges, performing a first and secondary level cleaning and a printer cleaning.
I've checked ink levels too and it says that both the colour and black ink cartridges are more than half full, yet only the colour one works, Ive been on the HP support website to find out if theres anything else I can do and they gave me a set of four solutions all of which I've tried and none of which worked.
I've even tried replacing the cartridges but nothing has worked. Not had this printer 6 months yet but don't have the reciept to take back to the store I purchased it from.
Is there anything else I can do?

  • Printer won't print black ink.

    Hi all,
I am recently experiencing printer problems with my HP deskjet F4180. After seeing an error message to refill ink, I went and bought new black HP 21 ink. When I printed a few pages the black ink only came out blue but my computer says both cartridges are full. I printed out the diagnostic test and the red did not appear and the yellow was poor. I am wondering if I have to buy a new color cartridge or I can print in black and white only?
    Thank you!

The user manual here indicates on page 66 the printer can operate in ink backup mode by removing the color cartridge.

  • HP 5550 Excess Black Ink Issue

    Hi,
I have an imac G5 running OSX 10.4 and an HP deskjet 5550 printer connected via USB that has started to basically put too much black ink on the page after changing cartridges so prints now smudge really badly. I thought the new cartridge was faulty so I changed it for another one but the same thing still happens. I think it might be a printer set up or driver issue as I have played with all the settings and it just about works if I choose draft print quality. The colours print fine as does printing when using a photo colour cartridge in place of the black ink one. I did a print recently on best quality so I was wondering if it was related to that? Also what driver or settings should I be using? Thanks for any ideas or advice as I'm fairly new to macs.

The brackets on the ink levels page are actually printed with a combination of color inks, they will print in what looks black even if black is not working.  I would suggest the troubleshooting steps in this document.  Be sure to check the vents.  If this does not resolve the issue the post here may help.
