HP Deskjet 3070a +  Mountain Lion - HELP!

Hi all,
Just upgraded to Mountain Lion.
Trying to reinstall my HP printer.
Didn't have a great experience with the scanner on Snow Leopard but the printer worked ok - eventually.
Now it just ain't working again.
Scanner - failed to open a session on the device
Printer - preferences show its added )I used HP Deskjet etc instead of AirPrint. Not able to connect to print a test page.
Wireless - can't enter the IP address in safari and link with the printer.
I have updated all software from mac and hp.
Help - this is very frustrating.

Since your Printer shows as added, you can use the following instructions for Scanning, and Printing, by going to System Preferences, then select "Print & Scan", and follow these directions from HP's website:
How do I scan with the driver from Apple Software Update?
Depending on your printer and the type of driver update, you might need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mountain Lion.
Scan from the Print & Scan window:
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
Click the Apple menu ( ), and then click System Preferences .
Click Print & Scan ( ).
Click your printer in the left pane.
Click the Scan tab, and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to change scan settings.
Figure 5: Show Details scanning screen Image: Show Details scanning screen
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .
NOTE:
Make sure to select either the Flatbed mode or the Document Feeder mode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.
Hope this helps

  • HT201364 Hi, I have all the specs for installing Mavericks but it wont do it. Would upgrading first to Mountain Lion help?

Hi, I have all the specs for installing Mavericks but it wont do it. Would upgrading first to Mountain Lion help?

    Are you sure?
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    A. Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • Vlc does not work with mountain lion - help

running a 2009 macbook pro and upgraded to mountain lion.  now VLC player will not load without X11 upgrade?!? don't know what this is or what it will do to my mac.  My friend's 2011 Macbook Pro upgraded to mountain lion without a hitch but i'm running into problems all the time.
    Help!  Advice needed!

You do not need XQuartz to run the 64-bit Intel version of VLC 2.03 on Mountain Lion. Running it here right now and no XQuartz installed. I have never needed X11 to run VLC on OS X since 10.6.
However, you may need a 32/64-bit binary of VLC for that 2009 vintage cpu.
Remove your present copy of VLC and then fetch another copy here.

  • Disk is locked - mountain lion help!!

Hello, I tried to download Mountain Lion yesterday and it said my disk needed repair. But it doesn't give me the option to repair it. I verified the disk permissions, etc. When I try to download it again, it says my hard drive is locked. I hope it didn't crash!!! Help!!

VK said for locked HDs and volumes at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2329689
sudo chflags 0 /Volumes/"name of locked HD"
sudo chmod a+rx /Volumes/"name of locked HD"
Assumes you can boot into recovery mode and select the Terminal app from the Utilities menu. If so, copy and paste the first one into the window that pops up, and hit the return key. When the Password: prompt pops up, carefully type in your admin password, since nothing shows on the screen, and hit the return key. Copy & paste the other one, hit the return key. You won't get the password prompt, since the initial one's good for five minutes. Quit the Terminal app and try restoring the OS.

  • Looking to downgrade my new iMac to mountain lion HELP

Can't seem to find the right help. I run Mountain Lion on my laptop and I love it. I recently bought a new iMac and was very excited at my new work station at home only to discover Mavericks is unusable.
I'd like to go back to Mountain Lion. Yes, the iMac came with Mavericks loaded, but this OS is fail. I need to be able to work, and work fast with out having to be my own IT support as well. I need my tools too, track pad, safari, etc.
How can I downgrade? Is it going to cost me? Heck, is it possible? Support has been unhelpful. If I can't downgrade I am going to take this shiny paper weight and exchange it for a PC and save money. Why pay a premium when the one feature that demanded the premium is unusable? I am NOT a happy apple customer. After 25 years I am about to walk away for good.

You may not be able to "downgrade" the OS on a machine that shipped with Mavericks installed.
The normal method would be to erase the drive and then install 10.8.5. You'll need to buy a redemption code at the Apple Store to use at the App Store.

  • OS X Mountain Lion HELP!!!!!!

I am having trouble downloading OS X Mountain Lion I have tried several time and each time it downloads partially and then it quits saying that an error has occured I don't know if I am doing something wrong or if it is a problem on the other end. I have been trying to download it now for about 45 minutes and it is still "waiting". My brother has a Mac and was done with his upgrade in about an hour. Can anyone help me figure this out?

Don't use a copy of OS X downloaded by someone else. Not only is that piracy, you won't be able to update it under your own Apple ID.
Boot in safe mode (shift key down at startup) and try again.

  • Home drives Mountain Lion HELP

    Hi
I am in need for desperate help. I have a Mac Pro Mountain Lion 10.8 Server and I need it to integrate with our active directory and create home folders on the Mac Server so users that log onto a Mac will have a separate home drive on the mac server.

Airplay only works with the newest Macs: http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html

Not sure why dictation doesn't work.
iCloud works once you setup iCloud in the System Preferences.

  • Mac mini and os x mountain lion help

hi i want to buy mac mini 2011 with lion server this week so when os x mountain lion is relesed will i be able to upgrade my os x lion to os x mountain lion if yes does it costs money if costs how much it costs

Macs that will support OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
As usual, the newer the Mac the better:
MacBook Pro – 13″ from mid 2009 or later, 15″ from late 2007 and newer, 17″ from late 2007 and newer
MacBook Air – late 2008 and newer
iMac – models from mid 2007 and newer
    MacBook – 13″ aluminum from 2008, 13″ from 2009 and newer
Mac Mini – early 2009 and newer
Mac Pro – early 2008 models and newer
XServe – early 2009 models and newer
Macs that are NOT expected to support OS X Mountain Lion
Older Macs and those with weaker GPU’s will likely be left behind:
Anything with an Intel GMA 950 or x3100 integrated graphics card
Anything with an ATI Radeon X1600
MacBook models released prior to 2008
Mac Mini released prior to 2007
iMac models released prior to 2007
    Original MacBook Air
This list of compatible and incompatible Macs and system requirements are based off of the first OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview and may be subject to change, we will update when we learn more about the specifics. OS X Mountain Lion will be released this summer but presumably long before that we will know precise system requirements and what Macs are and are not supported by the new version of OS X. Stay tuned.

Hello, I do not understand all the terms you use, but I'm going to share my experience. My ordis are on WiFi networks. When I install first WiFi asks for my password. Thereafter, every time I open a computer, I each time the message "Your computer could access your wireless network. I do not mind because it will find the network anyway in a few seconds. a technlicien explained to me that there is a modlule who wants to go faster than the other and tells me an error messsage. Then he finds the network and not say nothing.

  • I recently purchased a 2013 Macbook Air, when I want to install a new copy, it says I need to sign in with an Id that has purchased mountain lion, help?

    Question says it all

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Did you purchase a second-hand Mac? If so, this is the answer. You need to purchase Mountain Lion by reinstalling the original Mac OS X version that came with your MacBook.
If you didn't purchase a second-hand Mac and you have a Mid 2012 or Mid 2013 MacBook Air, make sure you started up in Recovery HD and that you are using the Apple ID you used to set up your MacBook Air. Another option is to use Internet Recovery (hold Command, Option and R keys while your Mac is starting), because some users said it doesn't require any Apple ID.
If this doesn't work, contact with the Mac App Store support > http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact

  • ITunes has gone crazy in Mountain Lion - HELP!

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion, and now iTunes appears to take over my computer whenever I have my iPhone, iPod or iPad attached. If I switch to another app, the computer switches back to iTunes after a few seconds. If I quit iTunes, it starts up again by itself.
Ejecting the devices in the column browser seems to stop this behavior from happening, but that means I cannot sync or charge my devices while I'm trying to do anything else on my computer.

I don't have iTunes misbehaving so badly, taking over as if to posses the computer. However it does seem to be trying real hard to do something! After being open a couple hours, ripping a couple CD's it begins to use excessive CPU 50 - 70 % on my 2011 MBP i7 8GB. The tempature then raises excessively. I use iStat and Fan Control to keep it tamed. It is obvious it is iTunes because once it wants to creep over 170 degrees F with fans at 4100 RPM I feel compelled to close it. CPU usage and temputare decrease to normal immediately.
Just upgraded to Mountain Lion. Have suffered the wireless hang, and now this.

  • Mountain lion help

I was lucky to have my old (2008) 24 inch iMac replaced with a new 27 inch i5 iMac and as it was new and uncluttered I decided to install mountain lion.
What a mistake! Here is a list of the problems I am having:
Crashes multiple times a day including
Finder which fails to relaunch when crashed
iTunes, spinning beachball which requires force quit. Upon relaunch reports that the iTunes library file is on a locked disk. (permissions are fine)
    aperture, spinning beachball
    Safari, spinning beachball
    iMovie, spinning beachball
I tried to log out and in to solve the iTunes issue but when I log out I get a blank grey screen.
I hard reset to get out of the grey screen and upon reboot it takes at least 5 mins after the logins screen for the mouse and keyboard to respond. in fact this happens every time the machine is booted.
it doesn't matter what user I am logged in with, the problems occur for all. I've repaired the permissions, disk and reset pram etc.
I was going to try to downgrade to lion but I read that people had problems with mail and iPhoto databases after switching back.
Does anyone have any ideas? Or is it just a case of waiting for Apple to fix the bugs?
    Many thanks,
    Chris

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I lost all calendar events with mountain lion -- help!

I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and all looked fine until I opened Calendar -- no events!

    Jim,
I presume all of the calendars have a ✓ mark in the appropriate box?
Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Then go to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Use the same method as listed above to get to the correct Library Folder. Log out/in, or restart and check iCal for functionality.
