HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One - SETUP Cartridges cannot be used

I purchased a refurbished Deskjet 3520 today from a local electronics store that came with SETUP Cartridges in the box.  I turned on the printer, installed the cartridges, and received the following error message:
! Do not use SETUP
SETUP cartridges cannot be used after the device has been initialized.  Remove and install non-SETUP cartridges.
Is there a way for me to do a factory restore / reset so that I can get these cartridges to work?  The cartridges themselves have not been used before.  Just trying to save money and use the cartridges that came with the device.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello busackzl,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand your concerns with your Deskjet 3520. Please try these steps:
1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector
2) Take out the ink cartridges, close the cartridge door
3) Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer (Do not press the power button)
4) Wait 60 seconds or more
5) Plug the power cord back into the printer, wait for the printer to turn on completely
6) Now, install the ink cartridges

  • HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One Printer. Help tells me to connect to computer with USB cable

I cannot scan anything at the moment despite the fact that I was able to do so several weeks ago.  I went to the HP online support site and downloaded a scan doctor programme.  It tells me that I do not have the proper scan software on my system and to download it from the HP website.  It does't take me to the specific software I need but to a list of things I don't have so I downloaded all of this.  I am half way through the setup process for one program and it is asking me to connect the printer/scanner to my computer using a usb cable so that "the settings of your wireless network can be communicated to the printer".  I don't remember getting a usb cable with the printer but if I did I have no idea where it now is.  What are the chances that finding this/buying this will actually solve my problem and is there a way to solve them without the cable?  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @translator82,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Deskjet 3520 is telling you to connect it to the computer with a USB cable. I am happy to help you with this connection issue!
To download the software, please visit this website, HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One Printer Drivers, if you are using Windows 7 or above, it is recommended to use the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows. If you do not know the Operating System you are using, please visit this website. Whatsmyos.
In the meantime, page 33 of your printer's user guide has all the options of how to connect this printer. User Guide. For the traditional wireless setup you will need a USB printer cable. Otherwise, you can always try Wireless Direct.
    Hope this helps!

  • HP Deskjet 3520 e-All in one printer trouble with scanning network, connection and very slow print

    Dear all
I bought two days ago HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in one printer serie, but i have some really bad issues with the scanner! I have searched on the internet and i couldn’t find anything to solve the problem.
I have installed the printer according to the book of the printer, so everything did go well(i think), except that i can’t connect the scan to my computer, a Mac OS X (i am connected with the printer). I get directed to the website where i can connect the scanner, but every time i try to connect it with wi-fi, i get two notification, one from my computer (from HP Itility (Dutch) program) that the connection is off and second from the website that i have to make sure that i’m connected with internet (which i am) and to check the IP address if it is the same with my computer (which is the same).
Obesely something did go wrong, but i can’t find the problem.
Beside when its copy or prints a document (no matter how many pages) it’s very slow. It takes 10 -15 minutes till the printer starts. Has it something to do with the problem i’ve got with the scanner or is the printer always so slow? Because the very first time, when i installed the printer, it printed very fast.
By the way i also print the test-results to check if there is a problem, but according to test-results there are no problems at all.
I hope that someone recognize this problem and can help me to solve it.
    Regards,
    Esra

  • Deskjet 3520 e-all in one printer not printing black ink

I just installed a new hp 564xl black ink cartridge with an expiration date of 01/30/2017. Low and behold the black  is not printing and the printer was purchased in 08/2012. I did everything that was suggested in the support forums and to no avail did anything work. The three other colors print out fine except the black. Based upon everyone's answers I guess there is no repair for it and I should scrap this unit after three years of constant use. I would think by now there would of been a solution posted to this problem but Hp has failed us. I've been using HP printer products since I purchased my first computer in 1992 and never had a problem with them until now.  My second printer which was purchased in 2004 is still going strong, except that it is not wireless. If I need to purchase a new wireless printer, I'm sorry to say that  I might have to look at the competition. If anyone knows of a solution I would appreciate it.

The post here has links to a troubleshooting document for the Deskjet 3520.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue please contact HP Support, even if the printer is no longer under warranty.   If the above does not give satisfactory results then please post back here and mention the country you are in.

    Hi,
The above link contains all software and drivers (for Windows from XP to 8.1). Please download it, save on your computer (remember where) and run downloaded file on your computer. You can copy it and run on 3rd , 4th, 5th ...  or more computers, no need to download again. Note: for Windows only.

  • Hp deskjet 3520 error message

I Have an HP deskjet3520   print scan copy
I got new ink cartidges as i was out of ink, when i put them in the printer they wouldn't work, the only thing on the printer screen is an error messgae reading ' SETUP cartridges cannot be used after the device has been initialized. Remove and install non-setup cartridges'
So i'm wondering what i can do to get these things to work as quickly as possible, i have things that need printed ASAP.
     Thanks so much!

    Hey Isis81284,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that when you replaced the cartridges on your HP Deskjet 3520 you got an error message ' SETUP cartridges cannot be used after the device has been initialized. Remove and install non-setup cartridges'.
Take a look here: 'The following ink cartridges cannot be used after device initialization and must be replaced' Error...
NOTE:Make sure you are not using introductory cartridges incorrectly. Introductory cartridges come with the printer and carry special ink formulations intended for printer initialization. During initialization, inks in the introductory cartridges mix with inks in the printer to create a normal ink formulation. After initialization, introductory cartridges can be used in any compatible printer. However, if introductory cartridges that have not been through initialization are installed in a printer that has already been initialized, the printer cannot print.
If you have purchased new cartridges and are still getting the error message please contact our techincal support at at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpsupport/index.pl

  • Question for Deskject 3520 e-all in one re: printing fonts and one sheet preference

For a Deskjet 3520 e - all in one - printing from Ipad -How do I adjust fonts and make my printer print one side only ?

    HI millchea,
Are you printing from an app or printing using airprint ?
What exactly are you trying to print ? ( email, webpage, ect....)
Here is an article about how to change font size and enable screen zoom. You can only change font size for mail, calendar, and notes app. For other applications you need to change font size directly from the app itself. Listed in this article are directions and screenshots to help you do this.
If I helped you at all it would be great if you clicked the blue kudos star!

  • Deskjet 3520 on Mac 10.6.8 Spool Full error

Suddenly from no-where my working Deskjet 3520 suddenly stops printing, goes idle according to the print page, and subsequently tells me the 'spool is full'. Have tried this and other forums to find the probelm including removing and re-installing the printer and powering off the unit and on again. Now it won't even find the printer when i try to reinstall. Yay! The unit is also wired to my mac so I do not ahve a clue how to fix this. Coincidentally its almost out of toner in 2 cartridges but doubt this is linked as it's never done this before when cartridges run low........
Please can anyone help  asap. I have a real backlog of docs I REALLY need to print.
    Thanks

    Hi HFBW,
I can not say that I have an easy fix, or a document specific to this particular issue, I can however assure you that I am here to help and I do have some ideas.
Unplug the printer USB cable, and please use the instructions below to uninstall and clean up the Mac of HP software.
    Scrub
Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
Hold down Control, Option and Command
While holding the three buttons down, Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then clickSystem Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click  Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
    Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then clickUtilities.
    Double-clickDisk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions  button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
    Restart the computer.
Last step > Connect the USB cable, download and install the HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers - Mac OS X 10.6, OS X 10.7, OS X 10.8.
This last step is assuming you have the Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One Printer
If you have, the older deskjet 3520 (I don't think you do), you probably would not have found software on the computer to have 'scrubbed', but can reset the printing system and repair disk permissions and then use this driver > HP Print Driver for Mac OS X 10.6.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, thanks.

There are two printers with that number but one is called the Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One which takes 564 ink.

  • HP deskjet 3520 network print issues

Getting towards the end of my rope.  I have an HP deskjet 3520 with wireless print capability from the network and have successfully been able to send jobs to the printer to print for the last 11 months.  It can no longer print jobs from the network despite having an IP address and being visible by all machines connected to the network.
Each time I try to send a document to be printed.
I do not have MAC address filtering enabled on the router.  I've updated the firmware via USB connection and re-installed the drivers and software to no effect.  I've power-cycled the device, restarted the computer(s) that would print via the network to the printer, etc.  I've done everything that I know how to get network printing fixed with no success.
I've also run the print doctor 4.5 program which can find the printer on the network, but then gets no response from the device when trying to access it.
Has anyone else had a similar problem with this model?  Any ideas as to what can be done to get it to start printing documents that get sent to it form the network?  I've been directed to this forum off web searches, but there are a lot of responses with links in them that have ether been relocated to a different web address, or have been deleted.
    Any help is greatly apprectiated.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hey @Tom801,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like assist you today with resolving the network communication issues you're experiencing with your HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One Printer. As I understand, you are able to 'see' the printer through the Print and Scan Doctor and from the other computers on your network. But, you are not able to print to the Deskjet. I have a few troubleshooting suggestions to start with.
    Gather the IP Address:
    1. Select the Wireless Button on the front panel of your printer.
    2. Your IP address should now display, please note down what this is.
    Open the EWS Browser:
    1. On one of the computers that you would normally use with this printer, open your Internet Browser.
    2. In the website address bar at the top of the page type in your IP address (do not include www.)
    3. Select enter on your keyboard to search for the printer Embedded Web Server.
Does a website open for your printer?
If the printers website opens than that proves that the printer is in fact still connected and communicating with your wireless network. If the website fails to open than the printer is being blocked from the network.
You noted in your post that you have Mac Filtering disabled, updated the firmware for the printer, and powercycled the printer and computer. Did you ever powercycle the router? If not, can I please have you do that now.
How to Properly Powercycle your Network:
    1. First, unplug your routers power cable
    2. Power off your printer
    3. Power off your computer
    4. After 30 seconds to 1 minute plug in your router
    5. Turn on your printer
    6. Turn on your computer
Once the network connection is re-established on your computer and printer please check your IP address once again on the printer using the steps I provided above.
Can you open the printer website now with the IP Address?
If yes, than it seems like your router had blocked communication to the printer. To avoid this in the future you can:
    Open the Router Ports:
    - Incoming (UDP) Ports:
    137, 138, 161, 427
    - Outgoing (TCP) Ports:
    137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500
Also, you can refer to the steps within Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection for additional configuration options. Focus on Solution two for assigning a static IP.
Please let me know if the steps provided resolve you issue. Good luck!

  • Printer Deskjet 3520

I have an old Deskjet 3520 that I used to print from my Ipad since I had my other printer connected via USB. I also used it with my computer. Recently I installed a new Officejetpro 6830 printer and also changed my internet modem. I have no problem with 6830 and I can still print from my Ipad to the 3520 printer but when I try to use it from my computer (Windows 7 64 bit) I keep receiving the following message "error initializing output device". I reintalled the 3520 and the most recent driver.

In my research, everything I came across for this error was indicating the software through which the print job is being printed may be causing the problem. What program were you trying to print from?Have you tried a different program?
