HP Deskjet 5150 - Replacement Cartridge HP 57

I have purchased from K-Mart the replacement cartridges :  "2 HP Ink Cartridges 56 + 57" .  I went to put the new HP cartrigee in, and it does not fit correctly.  The cartridge is shaped different than the original one.  I put it in and tried to print but the "Ink Cartridge light" on my printer started to blink.  I tried to print but it couldn't.  It told me to try and clean the cartidge and the printer cartridge space, so I did.  The light still came on when I put the "old" cartridge back in and the light went out.  I would say the cartridge is "Defective".    I have NOT opened the HP 56 cartidge yet, as my printer's black cartridge does not need to be replaced yet.   How do I go about getting a replacement cartridge HP57?

Hi @bitsy99
The 57 cartridge should have no problem fitting as it is the appropriate tri color cartridge number.
I recommend taking the cartridge back to KMart, or contacting HP.  Don't hesitate to call, although the printer may be out of warranty, the cartridges could be in warranty; therefore, there wouldn't likely be a fee for the phone support. HP will, at HP's option, either replace products under warranty that prove to be defective or refund the purchase price.
They could even determine after troubleshooting that it is a problem with the printer, in which case they may offer you a discount on a newer model.
The number to call HP is 1-800-474-6836 for Canada and US, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
To find the “Warranty Ends” date, look in the following table for the date's location on each product. The date follows the YYYY/MM/DD or YYYY/MM format, where YYYY indicates the year, MM indicates the month, and DD indicates the day.
I hope this helps.

  • Ink light flashes and it just won't print Deskjet 5150

    Hi all,
I have a deskjet 5150 and just had the printer cartriges refilled at a local shop here in my area. Since I have done that and before I did that, I have had problems printing. Sometimes it would help if I disconnected the usb cable and plugged it back in. Then the document would print. Lately, all that I get is a blinking ink light on the printer. Everytime I try to print, the computer just tells me that there has been a problem with printing.
    Any ideas?

Which light is blinking?  Are there any error messages on the computer?  Try printing with just a color cartridge installed, then with just a black cartridge.  The one that does not work is the problem cartridge, try removing it and cleaning the cartridge contacts as shown here.

  • WPSM54G and Vista won't print to HP Deskjet 5150

At the risk of opening an old discussion, I could not find the answer in the archives here but most threads end in early 2008 so I assume that the problem has been resolved.  I have a Dell Studio 1737 with Vista (32bit), using a WPSM54G print server with a WRT54GS router. It will not print to a HP Deskjet 5150.  It will print if I connect the USB port directly to my laptop therefore it shouldn't be the driver.
Both my desktops print to the printer through the print server - they are XP based.  Both work wirelessly or connected.  It is unlikely it is the router or the print server.
When installing the software on the laptop using the Linksys CD it gives a long message "We did not find the correct printer driver on your system" and so on.  I have tried all suggestions such as using the original CD, downloading the driver from HP site, deleting all drivers and starting over.  It keeps stopping at this message.
I have tried the tech help lines for over 6 hours now and have had no luck, they simply put me in remote mode and check the router and print server settings and then promising to call back.  They have on occasion but no help.  Also charged me 39 dollars because they needed to check the router IP address which is no longer under warranty.  Glad to pay the dollars if it would solve the problem but it hasn't.  Is there a solution out there such as a firmware upgrade or installation CD upgrade or something so that the installation will work with Vista?
    Thanks for your patience.

If you are getting that error message on your Computer.. This means you dont have enuff permissions to make the changes on your Computer, make sure you have logged into your Computer as an Administration..
If still you are unable to make the changes on your Router... then i think you need to Uninstall and Re-install the Printer drivers on your Computer back again and then try to add the ports on your computer...
Or else once you uninstall the Printer Drivers on your Computer.... Go to control pannel and click on Printer... and under Printer windows under task you need to click on "Add Printer" and Select "Local Printer" and uncheck "Automatically Detect the Install the Printer" and click on Next... You will get 2 Options "Local Printer" or "Standard TCP/IP Port" so you need to click on Standard TCP/IP Port and click on Next...when prompted for the "Printer Name or IP address"type the IP address of your Printserver and click on Next... then you need to select "Custom" and clik on Settings and under Protocol select "LPR" and under LPR Name Type LP1 and check the box LPR Bytes counting enable and click on Next and when it prompted you to  select the Printer Driver then insert the Printer Driver CD and and install the Printer Drivers on  your Computer Manually...
Once done sucessfully... i think you should be able to print.

  • Deskjet 5150 driver for Windows 7 (64 bit)

I have recently added a new laptop with Windows 7 (64 bit) to a small home network and want to be able to use the existing Deskjet 5150 printer. The printer is attached to a desktop that has Windows XP.  How can I get a driver for the windows 7, so that I can also print from the laptop via the network?
    This question was solved.

Try the following: on the Windows 7 machine go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, then click on Windows Update and then select the Hewlett-Packard HP Deskjet 5150 series.

  • Printing Word Documents on HP Deskjet 5150

I have a G4 flat panel iMac connected to a HP deskjet 5150 printer. When I try to print Word documents, it will only print a single page of multipage documents. If I want multiple copies of a single page document, it will only print one copy. All other applications print without problem.
I have reinstalled the drivers and that has not solved the problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Georgia and others,
I have a similar problem - but printing from Word to a HP DeskJet 960 printer.
It dones not seem to be a problem with all documents here, but since I yesterday used several hours trying to figure out what caused the problem I want to share my experiences with you. I had the same problem with another document on the same printer some moths ago (but not on our Laser printers at my company office).
I installed the newest printer driver from HP (several times) with no effect. After opening the document and saving it to a ".txt" document - without any formatting - the whole document got printed! This is not a real solution in most cases, as one loses all the formatting etc. But it indicated to me that the printer worked and communicated with word. Also it was possbile to print (other) documents without any problems to the same printer, at the same time.
So have you tested different documents on your printer?
I'm wondering if this indicate that the problem is hidden somewhere in something inside Word/Office and it's communication to the printer - as I have seem someone reporting similar problems with printing from Excel? (something with some "codes" in specific documents?).
Also, I have seen an update from Apple on some issues with printing from Preview - so I was also wondering if the use of "Show quick Preview" in Word/Office does has something to do with this problem? Has anyone tried to de-select this feature before trying to print? (I deleted the problematic document and can not re-create the problem currently).

  • Please help! Problems with HP Deskjet 5150 after installing Tiger

I recently upgraded to Tiger, and since my HP DeskJet 5150 has stopped working over my AirPort Express. When I plug it in directly through USB, it finds the printer and the driver no problem. When I plug it in though my AirPort, it finds the printer, but not the drivers. I tried downloading and installing the HP drivers, but no help.
    Any Ideas?

Since opening my new iMac and plugging in my printer, the system recognizes it as an HP 5550 series and offers me the Gutenprint 5.2.3 driver. If I manually specify the printer, it offers me either the 5550 or 5551 models (conspicuously NOT the 5552 one which I have), Both are the Gutenprint 5.2.3.
According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669?viewlocale=en_US, the Gutenprint 5550 and 5551 are the only drivers included with Snow Leopard.
I've installed HP's printer utility, which runs fine: it will print Test and Diagnostic pages without problems. It's only when I try to get it to print something (anything!) from the Mac, be it text or a photo, that I get either blank sheets or just garbage.
How did you install the utility? Since HP hasn't released a Snow Leopard driver for this printer, it sounds like you might have installed an unsupported version.
I've downloaded the latest driver patch for OS X from HP, despite which I still only see the options for the 5550 and 5551 printers in the Driver List (and they're both listed as Gutenprint 5.2.3). I've even tried installing the software from the printer's bundled CD.
Using Software Update won't help since there aren't any (updated) drivers from HP, but you can see if the updated Gutenprint driver, v5.2.5 will help.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @48morgan ,
I read the issue you are having with printing in black from your Deskjet 5150 and would like to add my suggestion for you.
Also try cleaning out the contacts inside of the printer with the printer unplugged. Use only a lint free cloth dampened with water (bottled or distilled).
    Power reset the printer:
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you, such as a replacement or trade in. • HP Deskjet 3545 shows "Incompatible cartridge " on the FIRST itself

I got a Printer - Hp Deskjet 3545 here in Chennai to be used in my home, nearby Erode. I chose hp since, they have got good reputation and they promised onsite issue identification and solution.
But on the first day, after carrying it home, installing the cartridges showed "INCOMPATIBLE INK CARTRIDGE FOR THE PRINTER MODEL". I was shocked.
I called up the customer care and after analysing the issue, the rep said I had to take the Cartridge to Coimbatore to see what the issue is, which is 150 KM from my home town. I asked for assigning a technician to address it at my home itself, but the answer I got from him was really shocking -- this is a cartridge issue and for this, technician cannot be assigned, and that is COMPANY POLICY .
Is THE COMPANY not worried about how i feel when i see something that i got for almost Rs.7000  is not working on the first attempt itself.
The issue is till unresolved. Could someone pls let me know what can be done ?

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your ink cartridge. I would like to try to help you.
To start, I would appreciate if you check if the ink cartridge you have is labelled as HP 678? This is the recommended ink cartridge for your printer.

  • Deskjet 6940 - multiple black cartridge 96 installation error messages

I have a new Deskjet 6940.  I installed the black 96 cartridge.  Printer keeps saying it is not installed correctly.  I cleaned the cartridge, ran the jet/bubble test.  Finally I replaced the cartridge, same installation error message.  I do not get the error message for the color 97 cartridge. Is this problem common to the 6940?  Not sure what my options are.  Thanks

  • Deskjet 710c - Cannot align cartridges

    Hi,
I have replaced the color cartridge on my printer but cannot make a cartrige alignment. When I try to make a alignment Explorer crashes.
Note that: I run Windows 7 (64); the printer can print any document; I can print a Test Page; I use a USB/Parrallel adapter; I installed the 64 bits Windows 7 patch.
What can I do to align the cartridges?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi @YBeaupre,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that your HP Deskjet 710c cannot align your cartridges, and I am happy to help!
After some searching, according to this guide, I Cannot Access HP Toolbox After Installing a Windows 7 in-OS Driver, there is no workaround for aligning the cartridges from the computer.
However, I would recommend to try removing both cartridges and re-inserting them. Otherwise if you have an XP computer you could install the drivers on it and align the cartridges that way.
Hope this information is useful, and have a wonderful day!

  • Deskjet 3940 and Vista - cartridge information?

    Hi,
I've just got a new notebook with Vista hp installed and I no longer get information coming up on screen showing how much ink there is left in my cartridges; in fact there is no trace of any HP programmes at all even though my printer is connected and functioning normally.
My printer is a deskjet 3940 and when I tried to install from the cd that came with it the process stopped suddenly when, I was told, the required registry keys were not available.
I was advised to download a diagnostic tool, which I did but it didn't affect anything.
Suggestions welcome as to how I install the software associated with the printer. My previous os which accepted the software with no problem was XP pro.
    Thanks,
    Y.

    Hello moxieman,
To change the default print settings, change it in the Printing Preferences from the Printers folder in the Control Panel: open Printers, right click on the D4260 (should be called Deskjet D4200 series I'd think) and then click on Printing Preferences.
