HP Deskjet 5650 Printer

The printer has worked well for years. Recently it stopped printing ink on paper, even though the ink cartridges move back and forth, as though it is printing. The paper advances in a normal manner. Cartridges are not empty. My PC has Windows Vista Home Premium OS. Reloading drivers has not changed anything. Any ideas what more I can do?

Print a diagnostic page from the front panel as shown in this page.  Is that page blank?  If so the issue is not related to the computer, driver or communication with the printer.  In this case run up to three cleaning cycles as shown in this page.  Is the page still blank?  If the printer was unplugged or had the power removed with the printheads properly parked the printheads could have dried out.  If the page is still blank after three cleaning cycles then try soaking the printheads in 2" of very hot water for five or ten minutes, then dry the electrical contacts with a coffee filter or slightly damp paper towel.  Now reinstall the cartridges in the printer and once again try printing a diagnostic page.

  • Window 7 and window xp sharing deskjet 5650 printer

My new computer running windows 7 seems to have issues printing out on the deskjet 5650 in that some printout material is not printed or lost, or the pages would be missing.  I tried printing the same material (especially emails, email attachments, pdf files, spreadsheets) on the older computer running windows xp, and everything prints out fine.  I am sharing the printer with both computers with a switch box.  Anyone having same issues as me and suggestions?

    Hi there chanyu1,
Try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03275041&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on.
    Best of Luck!

  • Windows Vista 32 bit and also 64 bit driver available for my HP-deskjet 5650 color inkjet ?

I have an HP-deskjet 5650 printer connected to my desktop pc that is running Windows XP and it prints fine. I have 2-other laptops on same network with Vista-32 bit on one and the newest laptop has Vista-64 bit. When I set up the network print connection by putting in the computer name and then the printer name it says a driver is missing on the server pc,which is actually the XP-desktop. Back on the desktop I made sure the printer was shared for the network. Then it also stated that if I was trying to print from a pc with a different O/S then you must add newer drivers which would have to be Vista. After checking,I dont think any are available for the deskjet-5650. Does anyone have an answer?

    HI,
The work around that appears to work is to choose the Deskjet 990 driver from the list of printers supplied in the Windows Vista operating system.
    Install the driver
Install the compatible print driver on the computer.
Make sure that the USB cable is not connected to the HP product.
From the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon (), type control printers in the Start Search box, and then press Enter . The Printers window appears.
Click Add a printer and then click Add a local printer .
Click the Use an existing port check box.
In the Use an existing port drop-down list, select LPT1: (Printer Port) and then click Next .
Under Manufacturer on the Install the printer driver dialog box, select HP .
Under Printers , select the Deskjet 990 and then click Next .
In the Printer name text box, type the HP product name and then click Next . The print driver starts to install.
NOTE:The name of the alternate print driver appears as the default name. The name can be changed to the name of the HP product, if desired.
    9.      After a message appears on the computer that the product was added successfully, connect the USB cable to the product and to the computer.
    10.  On the Found New Hardware screen, click Cancel .
NOTE:If multiple pop-up windows appear, click Cancel on each window.

  • Issues with Deskjet 5650 and Linksys wireless print server.

I have a iMac DP 1.8, a iMac G3 700 mhz running Tiger and a Toshiba laptop running XP and I am on a wireless network. I use a Linksys WRT54G router for the wireless and I am using a Linksys WPS54G wireless printserver to connect an HP Deskjet 5650 to the network. This was all working fine for the past 2 months until Monday evening when the Mac's lost connection to the printer. However the Toshiba can print to it just fine.
I cannot for the life of me figure out what happened. The iMac DP recently had a security update for intel installed this past Monday, but no updates have been installed on the G3 iMac. I have contacted Apple, HP and Linksys and they have been no help at all. Apple says it's a Linksys issue, Linksys says it's Apple issue and HP is just cluless. I would appreciate any assistance offered.
    Thanks

Paul, I am amazed you were ever able to print via the Linksys wireless server on your mac. I have the identical router and print server, and only the Windows PC's on my wireless network have been able to share the printer on that wireless server. I've been unable to find a driver for my iMac, and could never get the iMac to find the server. Finally gave up and bought an HP 2600n color laser and connected it directly to the iMac via USB. You're right about lack of help from Linksys. There is an Apple folder under "unsupported" on the print server installation CD, but there's nothing helpful in there.

  • Help with HP DeskJet 5650:  turning on automatically

W have an HP Deskjet 5650 that is connected to my Airport Express (Firmware 6.3; running Bonjour for Windows 4.2). We use the Airport Express to print from my desktop (Windows XP SP2) and a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.4).
When printing from the desktop, the printer will automatically turn on when detecting a print job (just like it used to do when connected to the desktop directly through using USB).
When printing from the MacBook Pro the printer will not turn on automatically. Instead, we have to walk in to the study to turn on the printer.
Any help in getting the printer to turn on automatically when detecting a print job from the MacBook Pro would be appreciated.

First, disabling the SSID broadcast is not a security measure.  Freeware from the Internet can still read it.  Plus, as you have determined, your printer will not like it at all.

  • HP deskjet 5650 usage in colour with IMac

Hope you can help - tried to install new driver to enable my printer to print in colour when connected to new Imac.  OS is OS X Maverick and not listed in the drop down options on the HP website.  Is my printer really too old to be compatible (and print in colour) with my imac?  It prints fine in black and white but just not in colour.  Have checked settings and connected a laptop to the same printer and it prints in colour perfectly well... Tried to download OS X driver but it downloaded then was unable to open with error message on screen: You cant open the application OS X HP Inkjet Installer because Power PC applications are no longer supported.
Any ideas to help me please?  Many thanks....

    Hi BBHRJane,
Apple delivers third-party software for scanners and printers using Software Update. To set up your printer or scanner, just connect it to your Mac. If software is needed and available, OS X automatically downloads and installs it.
This article is a comprehensive list of currently supported printer and scanner models and associated software provided by third-party vendors as of 14 November 2013. OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download.
The Deskjet 5650 is not on the list. Although I prefer not to be the bearer of bad news, the fact of the matter is, the Deskjet 5650 does not have a compatible driver to work with 10.9.
On an positive note, you could call HP. HP may be able to offer you a newer model, that is compatible, at a discounted cost. The number to call HP is 1-800-474-6836 for Canada and US or you can Contact HP Worldwide. < Click here and select your location.

  • Deskjet 5650 "not supported by Snow Leopard"

I upgraded to 10.6.5 from 10.5.8 and lost my color printer, HP Deskjet 5650. According to HP, Snow Leopard does not support 5650. All I get is an "err" message in the printer queue.
Contributor countryone77 on November 3 seems to be able mostly to use his 5650 in Snow Leopard. I get nothing, including an inability to download drivers.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the information.
Mac's 10.6 Printer and scanner software does not list Deskjet 5650. So, it appears that HP is right.

  • DeskJet 5650 Issues

I have an HP DeskJet 5650, which I've known to be able to print very well under Ubuntu Linux. Now, however, I use Solaris, and I've been having some issues with it.
I use JDS, so I went into Add/Remove Printer Utility from the Launch menu. I entered in the appropriate information as for name, make, model, etc. But for some reason, it doesn't seem like I can get the port right. I've tried /dev/printers/0, /dev/printers/1, and /dev/usb/printer0. The last would seem to be right, as whenever I plug the printer's USB cable in and refresh the view of /dev/usb, /dev/printer0 appears (the hotplug system apparently recognizes whatever type of device it is; when I had my SanDisk in there, it was mass-storage0).
But no matter what port I select, the printer will not print. It's as if it's not even receiving a printing signal in the first place.
    Suggestions?

I have a lj1200, networked, and the best all round solution is /opt/sfw/cups
Works with many printers, lot of public info. Tried the new Sol 10 printing and could not get it to work.

Gary. Having the same problem. Printer would work on 10.6 but only print black and white. In system preferences / print-fax changed the driver for the printer to HP deskjet 5400 series. It seems to work OK. Been printing from office files, preview and photoshop all OK for now. Hope this helps

I have an HP deskjet color printer that only prints in black and white from my mac ... how do I get it to print in color

Check the printer itself.  Some printers you need to set the color & B&W settings on the printer itself instead of the Mac.   If that is not the case w/your printer, contact HP tech support and/or post in their forums if they have one.

  • Hp deskjet 3050 printer app??

    Hey Guys.
I have a samsung 10.1 tablet and I would like to print to my wireless hp deskjet 3050 printer. Can anyone please advice me how to print to my hp printer? Is it an app I need, if so which one?
    Thanks for any replies

    Hi xna4life,
I understand that you're trying to print with your android tablet.  I would try the Hp ePrint mobile app

This is usually indicative of a defective print cartridge.  Suspect the black is low in ink or defective.  Please check all cartridges.

  • I would like to add my Deskjet F4480 printer to my home wireless network. How can this done?

I have a Linksys wireless router that is the hub of my home wireless network.  I have been successful in adding a HP OfficeJet 6500 All-in-one Printer an old HP DeskJet 890C that I purchased in 1997 with a computer running Windows 95.  The HP 890C has been my tireless workhorse throughout my two kids K-12 school as well as printing reams of paper during my MBA...and guess what: it still works.  However, my daughter has just returned home from college and she has a HP DeskJet F4480 printer/scanner that she would like to add it to the home network.  I have been researching the problem, but haven't been successful in finding out if this printer is compatible to add to a wireless network.  Or simply, will a 802.11g Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter suffice?  I am also adding a new Windows 7 laptop in the network, that will need to print to this F4480.  I patiently await the forum's response.

My mistake, it seems that price was a deciding factor when I purchased the F4480 in lieu of a more expensive wireless ready printer-scanner.  I will eventually come-up with a solution as I did with the 890C where I have a wireless print server connected directly to the printer serial connection.  It seems that backward compatible is still evident, but I am having some problems coming up with the long-lasting HP49 and HP23 tri-color ink packs.
Here is the rub; I don't replace technology because it is out-dated. I upgrade and or repair everything myself. I found warranties not worth the paper their written on and in most cases, the technical support was lacking.  My Win95 desktop went thru several major components until I found that it was becoming harder to find software to run with it.  I finally replaced it in 2007.  Now it seems that there has been a paradigm shift toward utilities that are very hungry for memory, and even if I didn't want to, I am forced to come over to the dark side with a device that has a minimum of 8GB of RAM.
