HP Deskjet 5740 Drivers, Windows 8.1

Hello,
I have had this printer working on XP for years.
I have purchased a new PC with Windows 8.1, it Works there.
I can install on XP and share with 8.1 but that is back asswards, The win 8.1 will be my main PC.
I have it installed on 8.1 and would like to share it with the XP machine.
When I try to add the printer on XP I get a message:
The server does not have the proper HP5700 series installed.
I have downloaded and installed 8,1 64 bit, OK.
Cannot use install disk from years ago.
I believe that I need to install 32 bit drivers on Win 8.1 to share with XP.
I am lost, I cannot find any thing online, just sites trying to install all kinds of garbage.
Is there an install from HP that will allow me to share 8.2 64 bit to the XP 32 bit?
Thanks,
Raney

Hey there @Raney , Welcome to the Forums!
I noticed your post about wanting to share your Deskjet 5740 from your Windows 8.1 to your XP machine. As you have found in your research, this just won't work. There are no drivers available at all for this model of printer and Windows 8.1 (check here). The old disks will not work as they're not compatible with Windows 8.1.
You will most likely have to stick with the "backwards" way unless you look into upgrading your printer.
I hope that helps clear up the situation for you.
All the best!

  • Is there a Mountain Lion driver for HP Deskjet 5740?

I've been to the HP support site; they make it look as if they have a Deskjet 5740 driver for Mountain Lion, but when I get to the page where I'm supposed to be able to choose a download, I'm caught in this loop with "choose your connection" and an FAQ link, but no actual link to an actual driver download. Here's the page I keep being caught at:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=357202&lc=en&cc=us&d lc=en
Is HP pulling my leg here? Is there a real, actual HP 5740 driver for Mountain Lion, or is it some kind of mythical thing? Almost all of my Google results end up pointing to the HP support/download site, but when I follow the links and click on the appropriate choices, I'm always routed to the link above, which claims to have a download link, but when I get there, there's nothing.
    Thanks in advance,

Apple supplies all the drivers for printers that are supported in each version of OS X. If Apple doesn't have a drive for it in the Printer Driver Package then there isn't one and that is why HP has you in that loop.
One way to check it to open Print & scan then click the Add Printer, if there are no printers already in that section, or the Plus ( + ) sign at the bottom and then broswe for the printer and OS X will install the proper driver and software.

  • DeskJet 9670 on Windows 8.1.

I have been using the above printer on Windows XP for several years, having set up from the drivers on the installation CD.
I purchased a laptop running Win8.1 last July, and found that the native drivers would not install, but was advised to use the drivers for the DeskJet 9800 series, which I was able to download from the HP Site, and these worked sufficiently satisfactorily.
Following a hard disk failure on the laptop, I now have to re-install the DeskJet 9800 drivers, but find that they are now no longer available, or else the Online link no longer works.
Where can I now download the Win8.1 (64-bit) drivers for the Deskjet 9800 series? Or is there another recommended driver that will give me full functionality (including A3 paper) for this printer? Not too worried if it is not 'certified' so long as it works and I can print on A3 as well as A4 paper.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
The printer is not supported on Windows 8.1,a s you may find listed below, such an alternative driver is available for Windows 7:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03168175&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
Try following the steps below, with the exception that within Step 1 click on Add printer, then click 'My printer isn't listed' and select a local port and follow the same steps.
Press the Windows Update button, allow it a couple of minutes and once the list returns select HP from the manufacturer link and then select the Deskjet 9800 from the printers list.
Please let me know of any problem,

  • HP Deskjet 5740 INK LEVEL

    I have this printer:
HP Deskjet 5740 Color Inkjet Printer
and it's working great after five years. It still works well even with Windows 7 64bit. The only problem is that I can't check anymore the ink level as it was shown on XP after every print. I've noticed that the driver's program doesn't include anymore the toolbox.
Is there any other way to just be informed when a ink-tank is near the end? It' seems strange that an up to date OS is giving less that the older ones.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Giuseppe Pini, Florence, Italy

Hi - It looks like the DJ5740 driver for Windows 7 is the one that comes with the OS (doesn't look like there is a full-featured driver).  Consequently, you don't have the toolbox functionality like you had previously.  I believe it gives the ink levels on the test page.  Check out this doc on how to run the test page.  Wish I had a workaround to provide to check ink levels from the software, but it doesn't appear there is a way to do it.  Here is another doc discussing the functionality in Win7, along with workarounds.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I print in black and white with HP Deskjet 5740?

I have just updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. With Snow Leopard, and an HP Deskjet 5740 printer, I could choose to print in draft or best quality, black and white only or in full colour, and had various other options. Now I am not offered these options in the print dialogue: the printer always prints in colour and I cannot choose whether to print in best or draft quality. I would be grateful for any tips on how to recover printing options. Many thanks.

I have a different HP, but see if this helps:
You can also select Greyscale, and even only the Black Cartridge:

  • Driver for Hp deskjet 1280 for Windows 7 x64, SP1

I can't find any way to install the driver for my Hp deskjet 1280, printer, not on the site, not in the instalation wizard, anyhwere, I saw on other forums that there were some tips; like using the Hp Deskjet 1220(c) driver from the instalation wizard in Windows, which is compatible with the 1280 printer, but there is no Hp Deskjet 1220(c) driver, only other models of Deskjet, which I have tried and they don't work with this printer. I hope you can help me.
    Thank you

    HI Slim2,
I am sorry to say, there is no driver or full feature software for the Deskjet 540 for Windows 7. The only available driver is for Windows XP. You may consider getting a newer printer. I would suggest you call HP. HP might be able to offer you a discount on a newer model.
The number to call HP is 1-800-474-6836 for Canada and US , or you can Contact HP Worldwide.

  • Bootcamp drivers Windows 7 (64 bit)

I had my mac replaced because of a screen defect... for some reason after installing windows 7 back on it I cant seem to get the boocamp drivers to work properly. The closest I got was having my keyboard lit all the time but no buttons were working... or trackpad. I DID have this working before and I just remember installing drivers... maybe I have tried the wrong ones? I have went through several and no success so far. So I reformatted with a fresh Windows 7 and now I wanna wait until I get feedback on EXACTLY what to install... thanks

  • How to configure my HP deskjet 3325 for windows 8 ?

    Hi,
I cannot find a driver to use for my HP deskjet 3325 for Windows 8, neither any alternative driver that fits in ?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the HP Deskjet 3325 Color Inkjet Printer is unfortunately not supported in Windows 8 - so there is no driver available.  The majority of HP printers not supported in Windows 8 are more than seven years old.   Sorry!
    Thanks!

OK, it is not quite a direct link but try the following:  go to the Microsoft catalog update site
(you will need to use Internet Explorer, not Firefox or some other
browser).  In the search box select Deskjet 930c then press enter.  There will be several choices presented, the 11.4MB file is the 32 bit version and the 11.6MB file is the x64 version.  You can click on each title and verify which one is the proper architecture.

  • Problems with the installing HP Deskjet 3845 in Windows 7

I couldn't fine my HP model on the list and Windows update was unable to get a list of devices from Windows Update when I tried installing manually the HP Deskjet 3845 in Windows 7.

Hi Everyone, The driver is already built into Win 7. Follow the instructions below to install the proper driver. 1. Plug in the USB cable from the printer to the computer.2. If you have previously ran the Windows update your printer should be installed using the driver included in Win 7. If it doesn't update with a correct driver continue with the steps below.3. Open Devices and Printers4. Click Add Printer5. Click on Windows Update6. When the update has completed scroll down to HP on the left hand pane, and then select HP Deskjet 3840 Series from the list of available printers.7. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the driver installation.

  • HP Deskjet 5740 Printer acts like it's printing, but blank pages come out.

I have an HP Deskjet 5740 printer. It has worked until recently and now when I try to print it won't out of any applications. It acts like it's printing, but pages come out blank. When I do a test it works or when I try on my work mac it works as well. So I know it's not a printer problem or USB cord. I have tried to reinstall the driver and also to "repair disk permissions," but to no avail. Thanks for your help!

Take out one of the cartridges and make sure you pulled off the tape covering the head and pin hole. I haven't dealt with Epson printers for a while but I remember buying cartridges for one of my printers that the tape always seemed to peel off leaving the hole plugged.
If this isn't the problem then it boils down to two things: bad cartridges or printer problems. Different printers are susceptible to two different problems; dried ink in the ink lines and air bubbles. You can try cleaning again and again, using the power cleaning mode if Epson offers that. This wastes ink but you have little choice if you want to resurrect the printer. If this doesn't work try returning the cartridges for a refund and see if that works.
Three simple rules tend to keep inkjet printer problems at bay: print something at least once a week. This will keep the ink from drying out. When the printer tells you ink has run out get a new cartridge. This will reduce the chances of getting an air bubble in the line. Buy ink only from reputable vendors and don't fill your own.

  • Blinking lights on Deskjet 5740

My HP Deskjet 5740 has just started blinking ALL of the lights at the same time...very fast. I tried the restarting idea, but that didn't solve the problem. Suggestions?

    Hi,
Follow these steps for the exact blink pattern:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00169535&tmp_track_link=ot_faqs/top_issues/en_u...
If the Power, Resume, and Print Cartridge Status lights are blinking and restarting the printer did not cause any change, it will require to service the printer or might be the time for a new one.
