HP Deskjet 5940 not recognizing ink cartridges

I recently got a new iMac G5, running Tiger 10.4.4, and an HP deskjet 5940 (it was a package deal). Upon setting up the printer, and after successfully installing the printer software, I discovered the ink status lights flashing, and the printer not printing. I was careful to check that the cartridges were installed correctly, with the protective tape removed. It has been suggested to me that this is not an uncommon problem, because Macs do not "play well with others," i.e. other companies' hardware. Is this something that anyone else has experienced? I also spent some time with HP customer support, and the only help I got was the suggestion that this particular printer may have been manufactured for a different region of the globe, in which case it would not function here in New York for some arcane reason, and would have to be returned. Before I do that, I was hoping somebody could offer some advice.
Thanks.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you recently replaced the cartridges on your HP Deskjet 1050a, you ordered them online and they came labelled 301 range. When you install them the printer will not accept the cartridges saying they are 'faulty/wrong' type. After taking a look at the Product Specifications for cartridges the 301 range are made to be used in Western Europe, you need the 61 range for North America and Asia Pacific. Please contact our technical support at www.hp.com/contacthp/.  If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html I hope this helps! Thanks,

  • Printer not recognizing new cartridges installed

I have a Deskjet 1050 all in one J410 series.  Just installed 2 new print cartridges.  Printer is not recognizing the cartridges.  Cartridge light keeps blinking.

I suggest try reinstall the cartridges following the directions in this page: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02835867, there is a video too. If still getting the error, the cartridges maybe defective and probably get a replacement.

  • HP Deskjet 1510 Tri-color Ink Cartridge Error

I just bought a HP Deskjet 1510 back in August and I loaded the HP original ink cartridges that come with the purchase. For the first 5 print jobs it was working well, but somehow after a while my laptop and the printer itself just kept warning that there's low ink level in the cartridges (especially the tri-color one). I haven't even got to use the tri-color cartridge much as I've been printing in grayscale ever since I've used this printer.
I've tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back in again; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I thought it might be a contact issue so I cleaned those parts too but it didn't change anything.
It's getting extremely frustrating as I'll have to do this for god knows how many times for every single page I print or copy. This happens to the black cartridge too but 90% of the time it's the tri-color cartridge.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Hello @ut32w , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I hope you had a great holiday!
I understand from reading your post that you are running into cartridge errors.  I'd like to help!
I would first suggest removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend running through the steps listed in the document below:

  • Printer does not recognize ink cartridges

Purchased a 2188 in China and brought back to Mexico.  Ink cartridges in China were 816 &817 models but in Mexico the equivalent cartridge for the 2180 series is 21 & 22.  They are same size, shape and fit perfectly.
However, as soon as the Mexican cartridges are placed in printer, the resume light blinks continuously and the printer software says there is an error.  Yet the printer software recommends those cartridges for purchase in Mexico.
I put in the old cartridges and the blinking stops.  What is the problem and how can it be fixed?  I have two perfectly good new cartridges that I can not return to shop now and a printer with no working cartridges....Frustrated user.

You will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.

There may be a connectivity issue between the printer and the supplies.  The following support document may be helpful:

  • Cartridge Not Recognized

I have installed two brand new XL cartridges in my HP Laserjet P2055dn over the past two weeks and now it keeps asking for a new cartridge when I turn it on. It seems as if the printer is not recognizing the cartridges? I have tried reinstalling the cartridge and unconnecting power and reconnecting. This seems to work for a couple of days, then the same thing...........I get the message "install new cartridge." I thought that it was a bad cartridge, but since I have installed two from different sources over the past two weeks, I do not think that is the issue. Help!

Hello @kbcf , and welcome to the HP Forums.
I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at HP Commercial LaserJet Forums.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8610 setup ink cartridges not recognized

I just purchased an HP Officejet Pro 8610, and was following the setup on the printer, installed the ink cartridges as shown in the "movie" guide, and the printer seems to not recognize that I have installed the 4 ink cartridges. They are the 4 cartridges that came with the printer.

    @jaycka
    Welcome to the forums!
I have some of my own ideas that might help the printer recognize the ink cartridges.
    Try this:
    Removing the ink cartridges.
    Unplug the printer.
Dampen a lint free cloth or cotton swab with bottled water.
Gently cleaning off the electrical contacts from the cartridges.
Wait for the contacts to dry.
Plug the printer back in and wait for the printer setup on the display to ask you to insert the cartidges and hopefully they'll be recognized.
If not, call HP directly to inquire about a replacement.

  • Officejet pro 8000 not recognizing brand new HP black ink cartridge

Hi. My officejet pro 8000 is not recognizing a brand new HP brand black ink cartridge. The black ink indicator remains lit and it will not print. I have unplugged the printer, but this did nothing. It is wierd, when I open the door where the cartridges are, the light goes out, it only goes on again when I close that door. The printer was working perfectly until this . Any helpful hints? Thanks so much.

    Hello chx2,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Officejet 8600 is not recognizing your brand new black ink cartridge. I will do my best to assist you! Please make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall. I just want to see if this makes a difference.
Next, please follow these steps in order:
    1) Remove all ink cartridges from the printer, then close the door
    2) Remove the power cord from the printer (Do not press the power button)
    3) Please clean the ink cartridges by following this HP document here. (Also, make sure you have completed all the steps from this document)
    4) Wait 60 seconds or more, then plug the power cord back in
    5) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges
    6) Try to print a document
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

  • HP Office 5745 Ink Cartridge not recognized

HP Officejet 5745 returns a Cartridge not recognized for the 62XL black cartridge. The cartridge was placed in the printer a couple of months ago, but only 20 pages have been printed on the cartridge. The same issue happened with the original cartridge that came with the printer. I attempted to clean the cartridge and the cartridge cradle, but the error still persists. Are the sensors on these cartridges only good for a few months? The cartridges are $35+ each. $35 is quite expensive to print 20 pages. Any suggestions HP? Do I need to return the printer and get a refund? I never had this issue with my previous Canon printer. Do I need to go back to a Canon?

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I see that you're encountering an ink cartridge error with your HP Officejet 5745 e-All-in-One Printer. I'd like to work with you on this. I have some suggestions that might result in a viable setup. Have you had a long period of dormancy with the printer before this error occurred?  I find that with most inkjet printer makes and models, it helps to print at least once a month to ensure that your ink system's not drying out. I recommend you try Solutions Two through Six as per this HP article.  I do realize that some of these steps will be repeats for you, but it won't hurt to follow these in sequence to rule out hardware issues.  Let me know the result of your troubleshooting by replying to this post. Thanks for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day,

  • HP 802 Black ink cartridge not compatible with HP Deskjet 1050 Printer - J410a [Model: CH346A].

I am Sharjil Ahmed from Kolkata, India, and had bought theHP Deskjet 1050 All-in-One Printer - J410a [Product Model: CH346A] from an online shopping website www.crazeal.com on 18 December, 2011, where the product information consisted that I will be provided HP 62 small black ink cartridge HP 62 small tri-color ink cartridge along with the product. However, the box consisted of HP 61 small black ink cartridge HP 61 small tri-color ink cartridge.
I also registered my product on 03 January, 2012, and found out that the ink cartridges which are compatible with my printer are HP 802 Black ink cartridge (CH563ZZ) and purchased the same, but when i tried to take a printout a message appeared that HP 802 Black ink cartridge is not compatible. Hence I had contacted the HP service centre of our area where I was informed that the cardridges compatible with my printer is HP 61 only and the hardware of my printer does not support HP 802.
Please help as I have not been able to find HP 61 anywhere in my locality.

  • PRO8600 Not recognizing new ink cartridge

I just changed the cyan cartridge in my Pro8600 printer, as I have previously done with no problem.  However, the printer is not recognizing that the new cartridge has been installed.  After closing the door and allowing the machine to cycle through its initial process, the window again appears stating that the cyan ink is empty and must be replaced to continue printing. I've removed the cartridge and reinserted it several times to no avail.  I've also tried a second new cartridge, again with same results.  Any ideas?

    Hello bryantk37127,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the ink cartridges not being recognized in the printer.
I do have a few suggestions that we can try in the attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also located a document that deals with this issue as well as other errors.  Please click on the following link for when An 'Ink Cartridge Failure,' 'Incompatible Ink Cartridges,' or 'Ink Cartridge Problem' Error Message ....
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • New ink cartridge is not being recognized

I just installed a new ink cartridge in my np officejet pro L7580.  All the ink works great except the black.

Ok, I just figured out so I´ll post it here in case someone has the same issue. I turned off my iPod while connected to the computer. Afterwards, the "other" connection showed up again in the device manager but this time it stayed there without disappearing and with the exclamation point on. I then proceed with one of the instructions in this posting to install the driver for the apple mobile which then showed up in the USB section of the hardware (it was never there until now). Bingo! I got my iPod Touch to connect for the first time! But seriously, why should it be so hard???? I'm concerned with the number of postings here. It looks as if Apple is selling the hottest toys but not be the best ones in terms of quality...
