Hp deskjet 5940 won\'t print

I have an HP Deskjet 5940 printer that I can't get to print.  Have reconnected all the cords, checked the ink (new cartridges), and deleted and readded it as my default.  Seems to load until I attempt to print.  Says my test page document failed to print which I can see, but it shows waiting.   And I might add that my load disc is cracked so won't work.   Time to purchase a new printer?  This one is going on seven (7) years.  And if I have to purchase a new one, I need suggestions on something that is simple and stupid.  Looking for something that is economical on ink cartridges and maybe just black and white printing.  I don't print a lot - some email and some Internet.    By the way, I'm computer challenged.  USAFRetired

  • My Deskjet D1660 won't print part of my Word document

    Please help me!
Yesterday I struggled for three hours to print black until I found out the cartridge ink was clogged, I cleaned it and that solved it.  I've got a HP Deskjet D1660 and my laptop is Windows 7.
But today I was printing part of a Word document (page 24 onwards) and it just printed a couple of pages. It won't print page 26 onwards! printer says there is nothing in the queue and that the printer is ready. I've tried everything I could think of...... please help me; I think the problem is not the printer as it would printer anything else, including other Word documents. It must be something else, I just don't know what! :'(

    Hello Moyo1,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
First off, I am glad to hear you have been able to clear the clogged ink jet that was preventing the Photosmart D1660 from printing black. Regarding the current issue, not printing past a set page number, let's try and fix this for you.
Since you have a Windows Operating System, run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This will look into driver, software and communication problems that could be causing this.
Let me know the results, what passes, fails, etc and I will be looking forward to hearing back from you.
    Cheers,

  • Hp deskjet f2180 won't print even when new cartridges are inserted

I require assistance urgently.  I have inserted new cartridges into my HP deskjet F2180, but the alert light for the ink keeps blinking, and it won't print at all.  Can't even do the maintenance checks such as CLEAN PRINTER HEADS.

Hi , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're experiencing cartridge issues.  I would like to help.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar. I would then recommend utilizing this document on Blinking Lights. Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Deskjet 3050 Won't Print Wirelessly

    Hi there,
My new all in one 3050 won't print for me. It is "Offline" in the network page. I feel I have explored every avenue and it will still not print. The wireless network configuration page I printed says everything passed. The home network disagnostic tool says "software missing" after i click test connection. The print diagnostic tool fails on connectivity everytime. I can connect to the printer ip 192.168.1.3 in the browser 95% of the time but not always. My router is a Zyxel P-660HW-T1 v3. I'm really close to tears with frustration, I'm quite computer and networking savvy but I cannot fix this. please help, I'd be eternally grateful.
    Kind Regards,
    Larry.

  • HP Deskjet 812C won't print in black unless color is on the page

My mom's printer stopped printing in black unless some of the text is turned from black into a color (we picked red) anywhere on the page.
I removed the black cartridge and put the same one back in.
It printed one page of only black ink.  Then no more pages if they only had black text.
We replaced both the black and color cartridges with new cartridges.
Still refused to print in black unless some of the text on the page was in color.
    Seems extremely odd to us.
    Please help.  Any ideas?

The cartridge has been replaced 4 times and each time it is more than 1/2 full when i replace it.  I shake it and you hear the liquid.  They are ALLL BRAND NEW CARTRIDGES THAT I GET FROM STAPLES never refurbished or refilled.
    Please help
Are your cartridges Staples brand or HP?  All the Staples branded cartridges are remanufactured and suffer the same quality issues as many reman cartridges.
As above:   Check the warranty date or "install by" date on the package if still available or check the cartrdige warranty as shown here.  A cartridge that is very old (or one that has been remanufactured or refilled) may exhibit the symptoms you describe.  Replacing the cartridge with a fresh HP replacement would be the best option.  You may be able to recover your cartridge by soaking the cartridge with the nozzles down in about 1" of very hot (but not boiling) water for five minutes or so.

  • HP Deskjet 2540 won't print in color.

I just recieved my HP Deskjet 2540 and I can not seem to print in color. I do have a MacBook Air. I am very lost and do not know where to exactly start to even attempt to try to troubleshoot it on my own. Please help!

    Hi,
For the beginning print a Self Test report and ensure the hardware prints black ink as expected:
Load clean, white U.S. Letter or A4 paper in the input tray, if necessary.
Touch and hold the Power button (), and then press the Cancel button ().
Let go of the Cancel button and then the Power button. The test page prints.
Check the estimated ink level graphics on the test page.
Figure : Example of estimated ink levels
Example of estimated ink levels with more ink
Example of estimated ink levels with less ink
If the page does not include black ink follow these steps to troubleshoot a such:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03803074/
If the hardware produce black ink as expected we should focus on the Mac as following:
    1. Click the Apple icon and select Software Update, be sure to install any available HP or Apple update.
    2. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select the printer and click the minus button.
    3. Click the Plus button and re-ass the pritner, ensure the printer model is listed within the Use drop down and not any other option as AirPritn or Generic PCL driver, then try printing again.
As well be sure to try printing from any other application to ensure the issue not being with the application itself.
Please let me know of any progress,
    Shlomi

  • HP Deskjet F4200: Won't Print In Black After Installing New HP Black Ink Cartridge (XL)

I am reading on this board that this problem exists on a lot of other HP injet printers.
One post is a detailed post on how to dis-assemble a F4620 to access the clogged print heads so that you can unclog it by running it under hot (tap) water.
It seems that these products were designed poorly, or with planned obsolescence so when this problem occurs (usually outside of warranty) and you call you tech support, HP will try to get more money of you by having you subscribe to post-warranty tech support, or better, have you end up buying another HP injet, and have the same issue again down the road.
It the print heads could be accessed and removed for sevice more readily, this problem would be more easily dealt with by most users.
Does anyone know if the dis-assembly instructions for the F4620 are the same for the F4200?  Or better still, is there a U-tube out there on how to access/dis-assemble the F4200 to remove the print head for servicing (unclogging)?

The Officejet 4620 has an entirely different design from your printer.  It has permanent printheads with separate ink supplies.  [I strongly discourage folks from disassembling the printhead on the Officejet 4620 to clean it, the likely result will be a damaged printer.  It would be much better for these folks to call HP support regardless of warranty as described in the post here.  If they are in the US call 1-800-HPINVENt, elsewhere see the contact information here.]  This does not apply to your printer.
The Deskjet F4200 series printer you have is an entirely different design.  Your printheads are integrated into the print cartridges, and replaced with each cartridge replacement.  In your other post I gave a link for troubleshooting steps for your printer, which would lead to this document.  If the steps there do not resolve the issue I would suggest removing the black cartridge and gently blotting the printhead on a damp tissue.  This should result in a strong black blot.  If there is no ink at all it is possible the protective tape was not removed (sometimes the pull tab can separate from the tape. leaving the tape on the cartridge).   If there is just a weak smudge of ink it is possible the cartridge is defective.  In this case you could contact your dealer or HP for a replacement.  If you want to take a more immediate action you could try soaking the printhead as follows:  put about 1" of very hot (but not boiling) water in a teacup.  Put the cartridge in the teacup with its nozzles pointing down and let it soak for ten minutes.  After soaking remove the cartridge and gently dry the electrical contacts with a lint free tissue.  Replace the cartridge in the printer and print a test page.

  • HP Deskjet 2540 won't print wireless when HP software is installed

I'm trying to set up my 2540 wirelessly on multiple PC's on my network. I can get it working on every one but my main PC (which is Windows 7 Pro). On the others I just "Add Network Printer" and used the windows drivers and didn't install the HP software, and it works fine. But on my main PC I want the scanner and ink levels and all that to work. As soon as I install the HP software and try to print it does nothing (in MS Office it gives the error "printer not ready") and shows 0 Documents pending in the tray.
It does print test pages from the HP Printer assistant, and the EWS, just not any regular windows programs
Print and scan doctor says it's fine. Turning off firewall is no help. Updated the newest driver from the website.
IP Address of printer is static, and ping works
    Ping statistics for 192.168.22.230:

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 7ms, Maximum = 126ms, Average = 52ms
    Printing from mobile (android) works
Also scanning works just fine through the software
Not sure what else to try.
EDIT: now I can't get it to work at all, even after uninstalling the software and trying to Add Network Printer only

I am using Mac OS 10.5.8 with a hp deskjet 960c. Over the past few weeks the printer no longer prints documents with multiple pages from Preview or Excel. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer multiple times. Any ideas?

    Hey
Just bought two new ink cartridges and they won't work on my printer, the text in invisible.
the leveles on the ink are correct but the ink won't come out on the paper, I tries everything on the support page and tried tips that i read about here but it still won't work.

Please try the below steps ..
    On the printer front panle....
press the SETUP ( wrench icon ) > Tools > Clean Printhead.
You might have to repeat the above step atleast for 2-3 times.
Each time the printer would print a test report, check for the presence of Black.
If issue still exists, then printer need to serviced.
It didn't work and finished my other inks.
All the people that wrote here didn't really get a solution and the people that talked to the support got another printer (a new one) - it doesn't sound like a solution to me.
And of course most of the people dosn't have warranty anymore.
I'll probably buy a new printer soon and it won't be HP.

  • New Deskjet 3630 won't print or scan

I just bought this thing and when I try to print, it says there is a paper jam and E4 is flashing on the display. There is no paper jam. Going through the suggested fixes [fix paper jam, reinstall drivers] doesn't help. Why should I have to reinstall drivers that I just installed? Also, it will not scan. It says that the scanner is being used by something else. Absurd. I would like to use this freaking thing. It cost money.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are unable to use your recently purchased HP Deskjet 3630, you are getting a 'Paper Jam E4' error message. You have checked for a jam and reinstalled the drivers with no success. Let's go ahead and try a Hard Reset: 1. Unplug all cables and memory cards from the printer. Unplug the power cord, directly from the back of the printer while the printer is still turned on.
    2. Unplug the other end of the cord from the power source.
    3. If there is a power module on the power cord, disconnect one end and reconnect it.
    4. After 60 seconds, plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector or battery backup as they can cause the printer to lose basic functionality over time).
    5. Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.
    6. The printer should automatically power back up. If it doesn't, turn it on with the power button.
    7. Try making a photocopy (if your printer is an all-in-on printer) before connecting any other cables to the printer.
    8. Connect any other needed cables to the printer. Are you still getting the error message, if so, I would like you to continue here: An 'E4' Error Displays (Paper Jam), this one focuses more on the cleaning of the hardware than the software. Let me know the outcome, I will watch for your reply. Thanks,
