HP DeskJet 6980/Mac OS X 10.6.8 Wireless Printing Issues

I have been having continuous issues with printing wirelessly from my HP DeskJet 6980.  It will print when hooked up via USB.  But if I try plugging it into via ethernet into my router it can be added but once I print I get an error.  If I try to print via wifi I get the same error.  It is attached as a screen shot.  I have tried deleting them and readd the printer.  I have added via the IP Address.  I have turned the printer on, turned it off.  I have downloaded printer updates via Apple Support.  I'm at a loss.  Please help!

  • Wireless Printing issues with HP Deskjet 2540

    Hello everyone,
I am experiencing an issue with an HP Deskjet 2540 printer - it prints if I have connected it to a USB cable; however, it refuses to print if I try to print wirelessly.
I had initially solved this problem when I went to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners and noticed two Deskjet 2540 series icons in a window titled 'Printers'. I ended up removing one of these icons and set the other one as a default, which seemed to temporarily solve my problem. Now, I see two icons back in this 'Printers' menu and my printer refuses to print through my wireless connection.
My printer is connected to my internet connection so I don't think there is an issue here - I also have recently installed the software for this printer to make sure there was not some sort of driver issue; however, this does not seem to give me the permanent solution I am looking for.
Any Advice? My operating system is OS X Version 10.9.5

    Hey @love2dance,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  I understand you're having difficulty printing wirelessly with your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with this and may have some steps that will ensure you can print wirelessly from your Mac.
I recommend you start from scratch and re-do your printer install and wireless setup for best results.
Firstly, make doubly sure your printer is connected to your wireless network by doing the following:
Step one: Prepare for installationTo gather your network name (SSID) and password (WEP key or WPA passphrase), you can ask the person who originally set up your network, see the documentation that came with the router, or contact the manufacturer. HP cannot set up or change the network SSID or the password.
Make sure that you have the following requirements before you begin:
Network name: The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
WEP key or WPA security passphrase
A computer that is connected to the wireless network.
Internet access. HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL.
Your wireless-capable HP product. Place it close to the computer during the installation procedure.
A USB cable (used only during installation).
    Administrator privileges or password
Make sure the product, access point, and computer are all on, and that the computer is connecting to the wireless network.
Connect the USB Cable to the rear port of the HP product and to any USB port on the computer.
Exit all applications running on your computer.
    Source
Secondly, prepare your Mac by removing any existing printers added:
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Print & Scan from the View menu.
Click the "-" (Remove printer) button.
Next, click here to download and install your printer's software.  As you work your way through the setup, follow the prompts to convert your usb install to wireless.  With this setup completed successfully your wireless printing capability should be restored.
One way to preserve this wireless connection is to make sure your wireless mode/router is left on continually.  If at anytime your network connection is lost, reconnecting your printer will mean that it's being assigned a new IP address.  The significance here is that your Mac will be looking to connect with the printer at an IP address that is no longer applicable.
Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  Best of luck!

  • Windows 7 wireless connection to HP Deskjet 6980

My deskjet 6980 printer has been working flawlessly with Vista for many years.  Since I recently changed to a laptop with Windows 7 64bit I have not been able to connect wirelessly.  I have tried downloading the latest software and installing the printer through Windows but have had not success with either.  I have also tried connecting the printer through a router and through it's own built-in wireless connection.
Is there any way to connect this printer wirelessly to a Windows 7 machine?  Are HP going to introduce software for this in the future?
Any help would be much appreciated as not being able to print is a huge inconvenience!
    Thanks for your time
    Matt

I finally got my deskjet 6980 working on wireless network on Windows 7 64 bit.
Follow the following instructions Exactly! :
    1)      Go Here:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SupportTaskIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=115&prodS...
    2)      Scroll down to "Network Setup" and click on : HP Deskjet 6840 and 6980 Printer series, and Officejet Pro K550dtwn Printer - Installing the Product...
    Suggestion based on my experience:
    - Follow the instructions closely.
    - I found a couple of steps to be different than indicated in the above links.. those steps were:
    a) Under Step 1 of Wireless Setup Only: "press the network butoon to print the product information" , but actually you gotta press the Report Page Button on the printer (one with image of sheet with a check mark) to printe the product info.
    b) Step 5 of Wireless Setup Only describes setup using advanced options, I just used the available Network Setup Wizard instead
    c) Step 7 and Step 8 of Wireless Setup Only ask you to "Disconnect Ethernet cable from the printer and t\print a test page using microsoft word..", but once i disconnected the ethernet cable the printer couldn't connect to the network wirelessly.  So, I had to restart the Printer, Router and Modem before the printer could connect to the wireless network.  Also, once the printer connects wirelessly to the network you may need to add the wireless Printer to your computer (i.e. Go to Start - Devices & Printers: right-click and delete existing Deskjet 6980 printer cuz that one is probably for wired network.  Then click on 'Add Printer' - select 'Wireless Printer' - select HP Deskjet 6980 from the list generated of all wireless printers available and ADD it and make it default printer.
    Good luck !

  • Wireless printing from main Mac not working

I've read through a few threads about wireless printing issues via the TC but I have a twist. My second Mac (Macbook 10.4.11) is able to print wirelessly through TC without a problem. I've selected the appropriate printer via System Preferences>>printers and selected "Share this printer".
My main Mac (MacBook Pro 10.5.3) which is being backed up on the TC, is not able to print wirelessly. I've also correctly selected the printer and clicked on "share this printer". The printer is an HP2410xi connected to the TC via USB.
The print jobs appear in the print queue and the printer status is "ready". When I select the stalled print job and select Resume I get the message "Opening printer connection" but nothing happens.
    Thoughts?

If the printer worked on 10.5 when it was plugged directly into the macbook shouldn't the same driver also work when the printer is plugged into the time machine. I've unclicked printer sharing on both macs and it still doesn't work. I see that HP does not have an updated driver for 10.5 so I guess that I'll just plug the printer back into the macbook's USB. Grrrr.

  • HP DeskJet 6980 or 6940 printer in Mac OS 9?

These new printers come with Ethernet, AirPort (option), Bluetooth (option), PictBridge and USB support. Additionally, no expensive colour cartridge is required to run the printer and a duplex module is available too. However in contrast to the predecessors DeskJet 5850, 6620 and 6840, HP has dropped the Mac OS 9.1 support!
Does anyone know how it is possible to use the DeskJet 6980 or 6940 via Ethernet in Mac OS 9? Has anyone played with such a beast (5850 onwards) on a Mac with only 64 MB of RAM?
Because the installer of the HP DeskJet 6800 series requests for 128 MB of RAM, I installed the driver on a better machine and extracted all the files to this 64 MB beast. Was not very stable - could not test fully because I do not have such a DeskJet yet - although I am sure I have extracted everything. Probably they use fixed file paths...have not tried.
Has anyone experience with these printers or even better alternative bargains? All I need is an inkjet Ethernet printer which runs from Mac OS 7.1 up to Mac OS X v10.4 sharable between at least to Macs.

Well, I haven't tested anything w/ OS 9 on my new 6940, but your best chance for a reasonable printer able to those things is to find a 6840 before they're completely phased out.

  • Printing wirelessly with a hp deskjet 6980

I bought me a hp deskjet 6980 which is equiped with it's own wi-fi device for printing.
Has anybody experiences setting up the printer for wirelessly printing on Mac OS X 10.4.6 or Windows XP SP 2?
Cause I followed the guidelines in the manual but never succeded.
I have a wireless airport network for internet with a PowerBook G4 and a Vaio Laptop. What I want to do is sending printjobs from both machines wirelessly to the printer.

Here are the instructions that got me through this.
    Good luck.
For your issues with setting up the Deskjet 6980 printer to your network
I would recommend the following steps. These steps are based on a
process you would use if the driver installation has already been run
    through on the Mac.
If you want to utilize the printers wireless functions disconnect the
ethernet cable from the printer and the air port.
Reset the printer buy holding the report (check mark) button down.
While holding the report (check mark) button down press and release the
cancel (x) button three times then release the report (check mark)
button. Once all the lights except the power are off turn the power off
(this may take a minute). Wait for one minute then turn the printer
back on. While the lights are flashing follow the steps numbered below.
    1. Ensure the blue radio light come on the printer then click on the
airport icon (on the top menu bar), select hpsetup
    2. Once connected to hpsetup, Print the network configuration page from
the printer again (press and release the button with the check mark).
    3. Open Safari (should say cannot open page), enter the printer's IP
Address (line 7 with the periods) into the address bar, hit return. An
HP site should open (this is the embedded web server on the printer).
    * NOTE * If you do not have the printers report page with the IP address
on it simply press and release the report (check mark) button and it
    will print out.
    4. Select the Networking tab. On the left side of the window (under
    CONNECTIONS), select Wireless (802.11)
    5. Click on Start Wizard.
    6. Select the network name from the drop down list, click next.
    7. If there is NO WEP encryption, continue to step 8. If there is WEP
encryption, enter the key (You must know this key. If you do not contact
    Apple to get it reset).
    8. Click Finish, the printer's wireless and network lights should blink.
    9. At the top of the screen click on the word Safari and then click quit
Safari. Once Safari closes click on the airport icon and switch back to
your network name. You may be prompted for a password.
    10. At the top of the screen click on GO then APPLICATIONS. Next double
click on TextEdit. type any thing in this windows and then click on
FILE then PRINT. Ensure the Deskjet 6900 series is the printer listed
    and then click on PRINT.
The printer should print the TextEdit words you typed in.

  • HP Deskjet 6980 Wireless Printing in Windows 7

I purchased an HP 6980 Deskjet new some time ago but had never been able to get the wireless functionality working.
I've sinced upgraded my OS to  Windows 7 (32bit.)  What are the specific steps I need to take to be able to set this printer up for wireless printing?  Although the blue light is on the front of my printer, I am sure it has no IP address since when I print a report page the IP Address is not listed; neither is the device MAC address.
I've confirmed HP has not written a full set of software drivers for Win 7.  Instead I'm told I have to use built in drivers provided by Win 7.  Please advise.  Thanks.

    First, reset the printer:
    1. Verify that the printer is powered on.
    2. Press and hold down the Report Page button.
    3. While holding down the Report Page button, press the Cancel button three times.
    4. Release the Report Page button.
    Now, follow these directions.

  • Deskjet 6980 getting it to recognize new network from network when originally set up

I set a deskjet 6980 printer up 2 years ago on my home wireless network and it has worked great. I replaced my airport base station several weeks ago with an Apple time Machine and reconfigured the network and renamed it. Everything works great ( computers, tivos, etc.) except the printer will not work. It has a flashing light on the front next to the blue wireless light. Printer still works fine when I plug it into my computer but I cannot figure out how to change the printer setting so as to connect it wirelessly to our new home network. any ideas? the HP online support group has been no help.

Since you have replaced your network with new hardware, new SSID and perhaps other changes you will have to re-install the printer onto the network.  You can use the method outlined on page 8 of this document: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00591746.pdf (probably the most straightforward with a Time Capsule setup) or try the other methods outlined in the document.
Try that and let me know how it goes!

  • Printing problem on HP Deskjet 6980

When printing from Illustrator or InDesign CS2 with text or a graphic that has been copied and pasted to a different spot in the same document page, the HP Deskjet 6980 will not print the copied version in the lower right quarter of the page. Very strange.
I have updated drivers for the printer and software for the programs, but problem continues. Any suggestions?

    Hello There,
I too have a similar problem printing from CS2 to an HP6940. When printing I only get half the page and the scaling is way off. I've contacted HP and they say it is an Adobe issue since the printer prints from other applications. As a work around, I just save my files as PDFs and print from Acrobat and they come out fine then. But I would like to see this issue resolved as I like to turn layers on and off and print.

  • "Mounting Failed" - downloaded driver for HP deskjet 6980

I downloaded the printer driver for my HP deskjet 6980 and when it finished downloading it said that mounting failed. Why would this be?

    Hi Kat,
Either a RAM/Hardware issue, Disk needs Repair, or some glith in downloading.
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

    Hello magnetoram1,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue when attempting to locate the ink levels with in the software.
I do not know if the tool you used was the following.  If not please click on the link for Using Print and Scan Doctor for Windows to Help Resolve Printer Issues.
The Print and Scan Doctor is used for software issues as well.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, : click here.

    Hello,
I am trying to set up the wireless printing function on the Deskjet 3054A with a new Mac Book Pro, but not having any luck. When I connect via the USB the printer shows up, but once disconnected there is no communication. I tried to get the updated driver on the HP site, but nothing ever downloaded and it kept taking me to the setup page.
Is this All-In-One compatible with the new Mac OS 10.10 for wireless printing?
    Thank
    Scott

    Hello Sabuff,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some connectivity issues to you Mac 10.10.
Just so you are aware, the printer does not have a full feature software and driver package available for the Mac 10.10 operating system.
You can however try the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
Please feel free to write me back with any other questions or concerns.
