HP Deskjet 845c won't print magenta

I have a Deskjet 845c that just will not print magenta. All my pictures come out green or yellow.
I have done the following:
Printed from more than one computer - same problem on both.
Replaced the ink cartridge, twice.
Cleaned the contacts on both cartridge and printer.
Cleaned the nozzles - here the magenta runs onto a damp tissue.
Sometimes after sitting all night the printer will print less than a page with magenta then lines appear in the print and eventually it turns yellow/green again.
Are there print heads on this printer or does the ink come directly out of the nozzle?
What else can I do? I really need my printer!

You likely have some very old and/or reman cartridges.  If the cartridges are genuine HP then check the "install by" date on the package or check the warranty date as shown here.  Cartridges that are very old may have one or more colors missing, although typically yellow and cyan are the first to fail.  If the cartridge is still in warranty contact HP or your dealer for a replacement.  Remanufactured cartridges vary greatly in quality and a poor refilling job may also cause the issue you are seeing.  See here for some test results.
The cartridge that has green ink rather than yellow is caused by color mixing, typically caused by improper refilling or replacing tape on a color cartridge.  Replacing the tape will allow color ink to be pulled from one chamber to another due to capillary action.
Replacing the color cartridge with a fresh HP cartridge will likely solve your issue.

  • HP Deskjet 3520 won't print magenta.

Hi - Recently the magenta in my printer stopped working. I replaced the cartridge, thinking it might be faulty but that didn't help. I have cleaned the print heads and done an alignment but nothing seems to work. What else could it be? Thanks!

Hi , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see the magenta stopped working on your HP Deskjet 3520, you replaced the cartridge, cleaned the printheads and aligned the printer with no success. Please make sure you have not missed any steps listed here: Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink  If you complete all of the steps in the document above and the issue continues, my own personal recommendation, not one of HPs, is to use the solution offered in the following video.  I only suggest doing this if the printer is out of warranty; How to fix a HP Printer, not printing black ink and missing colours  Although the printer might be out of warranty, if the issue persists, HP may be able to offer you something. Please call our technical support at www.hp.com/contacthp/.  If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.  I hope this helps.

  • HP 845c won't print in color

I have an HP Deskjet 845c that I just connected by USB to a laptop running Windows 8.1.  Black prints just fine, but I can't get it to print in color at all.  The printer used to be connected to a PC running Windows 7 and wasn't being used much, especially when it stopped printing in color.  I've checked that the most current driver is installed.  I can't find a way to clean or align the printheads.  Any suggestions?

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @RVG66
I read about how your Deskjet 845c is no longer printing in color. I am here to offer you one of my suggestions that might help.
Remove the ink cartridge(s) and gently clean off the electrical contacts with a lint free cloth dampened with a little bottled/distilled water. Unplug the printer while you clean the contacts. When the contacts are dry, insert them back in the printer and plug the printer back in and test print.
    Good luck!!!

  • My Deskjet D1660 won't print part of my Word document

    Please help me!
Yesterday I struggled for three hours to print black until I found out the cartridge ink was clogged, I cleaned it and that solved it.  I've got a HP Deskjet D1660 and my laptop is Windows 7.
But today I was printing part of a Word document (page 24 onwards) and it just printed a couple of pages. It won't print page 26 onwards! printer says there is nothing in the queue and that the printer is ready. I've tried everything I could think of...... please help me; I think the problem is not the printer as it would printer anything else, including other Word documents. It must be something else, I just don't know what! :'(

    Hello Moyo1,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
First off, I am glad to hear you have been able to clear the clogged ink jet that was preventing the Photosmart D1660 from printing black. Regarding the current issue, not printing past a set page number, let's try and fix this for you.
Since you have a Windows Operating System, run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This will look into driver, software and communication problems that could be causing this.
Let me know the results, what passes, fails, etc and I will be looking forward to hearing back from you.
    Cheers,

  • Hp deskjet f2180 won't print even when new cartridges are inserted

I require assistance urgently.  I have inserted new cartridges into my HP deskjet F2180, but the alert light for the ink keeps blinking, and it won't print at all.  Can't even do the maintenance checks such as CLEAN PRINTER HEADS.

Hi , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're experiencing cartridge issues.  I would like to help.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar. I would then recommend utilizing this document on Blinking Lights. Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Deskjet 3050 Won't Print Wirelessly

    Hi there,
My new all in one 3050 won't print for me. It is "Offline" in the network page. I feel I have explored every avenue and it will still not print. The wireless network configuration page I printed says everything passed. The home network disagnostic tool says "software missing" after i click test connection. The print diagnostic tool fails on connectivity everytime. I can connect to the printer ip 192.168.1.3 in the browser 95% of the time but not always. My router is a Zyxel P-660HW-T1 v3. I'm really close to tears with frustration, I'm quite computer and networking savvy but I cannot fix this. please help, I'd be eternally grateful.
    Kind Regards,

  • Hp7510 Won't print magenta

I have an HP Photosmart 7510, just over a year old.   I recently purchased new HP ink; the yellow, cyan and black work perfectly; the Magenta on the Print Quality Diagnostic report comes out i a few thin lines then disappears, and the Photo ink on the report comes out green.  I've cleaned the heads, and checked the ventilation.  Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

    Hey  @TracyMaxwell ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Photosmart 7510 is not printing magenta ink. I'll do my best to help you with this.
I would suggest you follow this document to address print quality issues for your printer: Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-One (C311) Printer Series.
Most of the time issues like this come from the printhead on the printer. Sometimes you need to run the printhead cleaning up to 3 times in a row. The cleaning should prompt you at the end to perform a second level cleaning which builds more pressure in the printhead to blow out obstructions in the printhead nozzles.
If following the document does not resolve the issue you can order a replacement printhead from the HP Parts Store by searching CN643A. Which is the printheads part number. There is a replacement and an exchange option. The exchange option saves you a pretty good chunk of money on the replacement but requires you to send the defective printhead back to HP.
    Hopefully this information helps.

  • HP Photosmart c410 won't print magenta after I cleaned the printhead

I recently tried printing a document but the black came out faded, even though I had a lot of black ink left. This has happened before so I figured I needed to clean out the printhead to clear up any gunk stuck inside. I rinsed the printhead out and let it air-dry overnight. The next morning, I put it back in and inserted all the ink cartridges, which I also left out overnight (not sure if that was a bad idea, since I've done it before). The printer came up with an error message, warning me that magenta won't work or something along those lines and said to change the cartridge or to click OK to continue. I clicked OK, because I had quite a bit of magenta left so I didn't want to just change it; I've never seen that message before. Magenta hasn't worked since then. I've tried re-aligning the cartridges, I've tried clicking clean printhead. When I Print Quality report, it shows black, cyan and yellow (yellow is kind of streaked though). I changed the magenta ink cartridge to see if that might help afterall and it's simply not working! Please help me out! I think I fudged my printer

  • Hp deskjet 5940 won\'t print

I have an HP Deskjet 5940 printer that I can't get to print.  Have reconnected all the cords, checked the ink (new cartridges), and deleted and readded it as my default.  Seems to load until I attempt to print.  Says my test page document failed to print which I can see, but it shows waiting.   And I might add that my load disc is cracked so won't work.   Time to purchase a new printer?  This one is going on seven (7) years.  And if I have to purchase a new one, I need suggestions on something that is simple and stupid.  Looking for something that is economical on ink cartridges and maybe just black and white printing.  I don't print a lot - some email and some Internet.    By the way, I'm computer challenged.  USAFRetired

  • HP Deskjet 812C won't print in black unless color is on the page

My mom's printer stopped printing in black unless some of the text is turned from black into a color (we picked red) anywhere on the page.
I removed the black cartridge and put the same one back in.
It printed one page of only black ink.  Then no more pages if they only had black text.
We replaced both the black and color cartridges with new cartridges.
Still refused to print in black unless some of the text on the page was in color.
    Seems extremely odd to us.

The cartridge has been replaced 4 times and each time it is more than 1/2 full when i replace it.  I shake it and you hear the liquid.  They are ALLL BRAND NEW CARTRIDGES THAT I GET FROM STAPLES never refurbished or refilled.
    Please help
Are your cartridges Staples brand or HP?  All the Staples branded cartridges are remanufactured and suffer the same quality issues as many reman cartridges.
As above:   Check the warranty date or "install by" date on the package if still available or check the cartrdige warranty as shown here.  A cartridge that is very old (or one that has been remanufactured or refilled) may exhibit the symptoms you describe.  Replacing the cartridge with a fresh HP replacement would be the best option.  You may be able to recover your cartridge by soaking the cartridge with the nozzles down in about 1" of very hot (but not boiling) water for five minutes or so.

  • HP Deskjet 2540 won't print in color.

I just recieved my HP Deskjet 2540 and I can not seem to print in color. I do have a MacBook Air. I am very lost and do not know where to exactly start to even attempt to try to troubleshoot it on my own. Please help!

    Hi,
For the beginning print a Self Test report and ensure the hardware prints black ink as expected:
Load clean, white U.S. Letter or A4 paper in the input tray, if necessary.
Touch and hold the Power button (), and then press the Cancel button ().
Let go of the Cancel button and then the Power button. The test page prints.
Check the estimated ink level graphics on the test page.
Figure : Example of estimated ink levels
Example of estimated ink levels with more ink
Example of estimated ink levels with less ink
If the page does not include black ink follow these steps to troubleshoot a such:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03803074/
If the hardware produce black ink as expected we should focus on the Mac as following:
    1. Click the Apple icon and select Software Update, be sure to install any available HP or Apple update.
    2. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select the printer and click the minus button.
    3. Click the Plus button and re-ass the pritner, ensure the printer model is listed within the Use drop down and not any other option as AirPritn or Generic PCL driver, then try printing again.
As well be sure to try printing from any other application to ensure the issue not being with the application itself.
Please let me know of any progress,
