I don't know if this link will work for you, but the HP store does a side by side comparison of the two products.
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/product_comparison.do?storeName=storefronts&landing=print...
Looks like the D2660 is a better printer when you compare the specs, but the D1660 has a higher rating from customers.

  • Issue when using HP deskjet D1660 shared by printer server

    Hi,
I'm trying to use HP D1660 through ReadyNAS's (network storage) printer server feature.
I connected D1660 and ReadyNAS through USB link. Using system preference-printer&fax, my mac perfectly sees exact printer name broadcasted through bonjour and I assigned snow leopard built-in driver for "HP deskjet D1600 series".
But it turns out not to be working.
Interesting thing is, it perfectly works when I try to print on my Windows 7 PC with exactly same configuration (readnas-d1660 shared on network)
    Am I missing something?
I already tried every single protocols for network printers (IPP, LPD, HP jetdirect...).
    I'm stuck...

  • My Deskjet D1660 won't print part of my Word document

    Please help me!
Yesterday I struggled for three hours to print black until I found out the cartridge ink was clogged, I cleaned it and that solved it.  I've got a HP Deskjet D1660 and my laptop is Windows 7.
But today I was printing part of a Word document (page 24 onwards) and it just printed a couple of pages. It won't print page 26 onwards! printer says there is nothing in the queue and that the printer is ready. I've tried everything I could think of...... please help me; I think the problem is not the printer as it would printer anything else, including other Word documents. It must be something else, I just don't know what! :'(

    Hello Moyo1,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
First off, I am glad to hear you have been able to clear the clogged ink jet that was preventing the Photosmart D1660 from printing black. Regarding the current issue, not printing past a set page number, let's try and fix this for you.
Since you have a Windows Operating System, run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This will look into driver, software and communication problems that could be causing this.
Let me know the results, what passes, fails, etc and I will be looking forward to hearing back from you.
    Cheers,

  • HP Deskjet D1600 turns off in the middle of printing.

My D1600 turns itself off and goes offline after printing 2 pages from a print job of more than 2.
My orignal adapter suddenly stopped working so I sent it to get fixed but it hasn't come back yet. So I'm using another power adapter. A 0957-2094 HP Power Adapter. But the socket color for the adapter is gray and my printer socket is violet. Is it ok to use this power adapter for my printer? Or is the power adapter the cause for my printer to suddenly turn itself off while printing?

    Hello XXIIV,
The power adapter shipped with the Deskjet D1660 and the one you are using now is, as far as I can tell, slightly different in their output. If this behaviour started when you started using the "wrong" power adapter then I would definitely recommend that you wait until you receive the correct one. In fact, I wouldn't really recommend using anything but the power adapter that's intended for the printer to begin with.

If the printer is in a mobile usage make sure you properly power down the printer when you are done.  The printer must be powered off by its power switch and then sufficient time given to let the printheads properly park.  If power is removed without properly turning off the printer and allowing it to park the printheads then the printheads may dry out and clog.  (This is likely to be more of an issue with the color cartridge.)
Also avoid temperature extremes - inside a closed vehicle in the summer temperatures can easily get to 50C or more and this can also shorten the cartridge life.

  • New post

Print quality was fading, so I added a new HP60 black ink cartridge. For some reason, now it barely prints at all. Ink is very feint. Supply levels show that Black Ink is full. Can't use the align utility because the print is so feint. I have removed the cartridge and put it back in, but this made no difference. Any ideas, thoughts or help?

    Hello @OldSchool2015,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the faded print quality issue that you're experiencing when printing to your HP Deskjet D2660 Printer. Now I understand that this issue occured with your original black cartridge and now your new black cartridge. Also, your printer is detecting the new black cartridge as full but is still printing with faded ink. At this point I am going to run you through some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue.
First, can I please have you print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report. If this report prints with faded print than we will know that your print quality issue is being caused by a hardware issue with your Deskjets print system and not a setting issue on the computer.
    1. Make sure that unused, plain white paper is loaded in the input tray.
    2. Press and hold the Power button () on the product control panel.
    3. Press the Resume button () three times.
If this report prints faded, can you please click here and run through the Print Quality Troubleshooting steps provided. Please run through Solution one, Solution three, and Solution six. This also includes any sub-steps under each of the listed Solutions.
If this report prints perfectly, than the faded print issue is a software setting issue on your computer. Please do not proceed with any further troubleshooting at this time.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Printer is idle - what should I do

My priner is "Idle".  What should I do so I can use it again

    Hello @w0j8c301,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're getting the printer status 'idle' when trying to print from your Mac OS X 10.10 computer to your HP Deskjet D2660 Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. 'Idle' is perfectly normal to see under the Print & Scan window. It just means your printer is in a 'ready' status and should be able to print for you. Now, issues arise when your printer is showing as 'ready' or 'idle' but failing to print for you. If your machine is not printing from your Mac OS X 10.10 computer can I please have you follow the steps below.
Step 1: Reset the Print System:
To start, I am going to have you Reset the Print System on your Mac. Please click here for instructions on how to perform the Reset. When the website opens follow the steps under 'Resetting the printing system in OS X Lion' as the steps are the same for Mac OS X 10.10. This Reset will remove every printer from your Mac. However, it does not uninstall the printers. Therefore, should you use other printers on this Mac, once the Reset is complete simply ensure that the printers are connected via a USB Cable or Network connected and (+) Add them back in. Do not add your HP Deskjet back in at this time.
Once the reset is complete, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
Next, please click here for steps on how to properly uninstall your printer. Once the site opens select the dropdown for 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9' and follow the steps under Method Two to complete the uninstall process.
Once the uninstall is complete, please continue on.
Step 3: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 4: Manually install Driver Package:
Please click here to manually download the Apple Update package for HP Printer Drivers v3.0. Once the website opens select the Download button at the top. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the driver package.
Step 5: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
    Step 6: Add the Device:
    1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
    2. Click Print & Scan, and then check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list.
    3. Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer.
    4. Click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer,
    5. Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Ensure that the Deskjet driver is selected.
    6. Click Add to add the printer to the list.
    - Source
Once your printer is successfully added in, please try printing again to verify that the issue is now resolved.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Good luck!

  • HP DeskJet D1660 hangs in the middle of a print job?

My HP DeskJet D1660 occasionally hangs in the middle of a print job.  No error message appears but the light in the power button is blinking.  I have tried opening the printer queue and deleting the job.  The queue switches from status "printing" to status "deleting" and hangs with the queue never deleting the print job.
Solutions tried: turning off printer, unplugging printer, unplugging and replugging the USB cable.  None of these clears the queue or restarts the printer.  Restarting the machine also did not unclog the queue initially, however, after a lot of cable unpluging I got it cleared and was able to use the printer again.
Today It stopped in the middle of a print job again this time with an Excel spreadsheet (the first was printing a web page).  After trying some of the same fixes again but before powering down the computer I somehow got the HP Guided Solution up (I"m not sure what I did to trigger it).  Using this help system I managed to get the queue unclogged and the printer up and running following about ten different steps.
Why is this problem starting to reoccur.  Is there a permanent fix or will I have to struggle thru the process of stopping and starting the print spooler every time it happens.

    Hi hp_issed & TXGabe,
I understand that both of your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printers are not able to print correctly and quit in the middle of jobs.
What is the firmware version of the printer? click here to find out how to retrieve it.
Which Windows operating system are you running?
Is the printer connected via USB, ethernet or wireless?
Is the power to the printer connected directly into a wall outlet or a surge protector?
    Thank you,
