  • Print spooler crashes whenever I try to print to Deskjet F4280 over the network.

    Greetings,
I have a nice and cheap F4280 connected to my computer via USB. My computer is running Windows XP SP3 (downgraded from Vista, had the same problem with Vista as well). I can print fine from my printer, but whenever I try to print from a laptop over the wireless network, the print spooler on my computer crashes and the F4280 doesn't do anything.
I downloaded a Microsoft tool to restart the print spooler, but when I resend the document to the printer over the netword, the spooler drashes again.
I've downloaded all the latest drivers, and attempted to run the critical patch, but an error message said I was already up to date and didn't need to install it.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Resolution/Fix:
You first need to clear out your print queue to prevent the print spooler from crashing again.
On the computer designated as the server do the following:
Stop the printer spool service by right clicking on your My Computer icon and selecting "Manage"
Expand "Services and Applications" and the click on services
Browse through the list of services and find "Printer Spooler".
Right click on the "Print Spooler" service and select "Stop" if Stop is grayed out or disabled and "Start" is an available option, then the service is already stopped.
    Go to the c:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers folder
You should see some files in this directory with a .SHD file extension or a .SPL extension you will want to delete these. In some cases you may see other files in this directory as well, and in general it is safe to delete them. Files besides the .SHD and .SPL should be backed up before you delete them to be safe.
You may either reboot the computer or Start the "Print Spooler" service manually.
Once your print spool is clear you can now proceed with the following on the server computer:
Click on Start then control panel, and then Printer and Faxes
Right click on the HP Deskjet F4280 printer and select Properties
    Click on the Advanced tab
    Uncheck "Enable advanced printing features"
    Click the OK button
You should now be able to print fine from any computer on the network

  • Can't print to shared Deskjet F4280

Can anyone help with this one?
Have an HP Deskjet F4280 connected to my Ultimate Vista 64 bit box via USB.  Prints great.
Attempted to share on my home D-link wireless network.
Activated “shared printer” on the main box that is connected to the printer.
Linked to printer on second computer (also Ultimate Vista 64 bit) through “Add a printer”
    Successfully printed a test page.
Tried to print from second computer on a variety of applications (ie notepad, word, etc) and nothing printed.  Jobs disappeared into thin air.
Tried turning all knobs and pushing all buttons in printing preferences and nothing changed the outcome.  Any ideas of suggestions?

OK.......After about 6 hours of effort into this one I have it resolved.  BTW, HP customer support was worthless.  They said the product can not be networked and suggested I return it.
    Here's what fixed the issue.
    1.  Directly connected the printer to the second computer and installed the drivers from from the installation CD.  Note that I did not install any other software (eg HP essentials, OCR etc.)
    2.  Reconnected the printer to the main box, making sure it still was identified as "shared".
    3.  "Added Printer" on second computer (network, not local).  Successfully connected to HP F4200 series.  Set this as the default printer.
    4.  Print a test page failed!
    5.  Successfully printed documents from word, excell, notepad and browser.
    6.  Note that I did not delete the non-default F4200 printer that was directly connected to the second computer.

  • My HP Deskjet F4280 printer won't work with my new HP 2000 laptop w/ windows 8.1

I have a HP Deskjet F4280 printer. I recently bought a HP 2000 laptop. I put the printers install disk in the laptop to set up my printer but it says windows 8 doesn't support that printer! It also does say that windows 2000, XP, Vista are supported on the disk for the printer...help! Is there a work around?

    Hey Alyssa426,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
Since the installation disk does not support Windows 8.1, I would suggest trying to download, and install the drivers directly from the HP Support website. I have included a link to the 'HP Deskjet F4200/F4224 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Driver'. Once the software is downloaded, open the software, and follow through the on screen instructions for installation.
Please let me know the outcome of installing the software.
    Thank you.

  • HP Deskjet F4280 prints blank pages on Macbook

    Hello,
My printer came with a macbook I bought in 2008 and worked wonderfully for years. Out of nowhere it stopped printing or making copies. The printer acts like it is doing the action but the pages come out blank or with spotty black marks where text should have appeared. I have a newer macbook now that runs OS X 10.10 and the printer shows up under my USB and in the printer & scanners. I'd appreciate any ideas on what to try. Thanks.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @brookshd
I read your post about your Deskjet F4280 showing some print quality problems when making print outs or copies. The spotty black marks could be a sign of a printhead problem.
Please try these steps to see if the issue can be resolved: Faded, Missing, or Dull Colors in Printouts
If the troubleshooting does not help at all, I would lastly suggest technical support.

  • HP Deskjet F4280 - can print test page but nothing else on new Windows 7 laptop on home network

I hope you can help me.  I have an HP Deskjet F4280 set up on my desktop computer running Windows Vista Home Premium 64x.  I've also got a home network on a D-Link Wireless N router.
My new laptop is a Toshiba with Windows 7.  I can connect to the network no problem and can add the printer (attached to my desktop via USB) and can print the test page.  My problem is that I can't print any other documents.  When I check the print queue all it says is "spooling" and then after a few seconds the job just disappers from the queue.
I connected the printer directly to the laptop and dowloaded the drivers for Windows 7 and it works fine. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all software on both computers.  I've spent hours trying different solutions I've found on this web-site and others...and nothing works!  I am very frustrated to say the least.
Is there any way you can help me???

    Hi Lisamcgack,
Print sharing is a Microsoft supported application. Since the printer is working on the computers independently. Then this would be an issue between the operating systems. Check out the following Microsoft document on print sharing.

it sounds like you have the wrong driver installed, I had similar symptoms with an epson printer,
what drivers are you using? and try this, it might be what you are looking for
    pacman -S foomatic-db-hpijs
this should contain a driver that will work for your printer.

  • Deskjet F4280 not feeding paper in

Hi, My name is Carrie.  I am having trouble with the Deskjet F4280 not feeding paper into it.
It sounds like the rollers are working but not grabbing the paper.  It was working if I fed the paper in by pushing one piece of paper at a time but now it is not taking paper in at all?

Hi - Try following the steps in this video.  Typically, the problem is caused by an accumulation of dust or paper dust on the rollers.  Hope it helps.

  • Deskjet F4280. Only producing blank pages

    Hello,
I have a Deskjet F4280 all in one connected to a laptop using Windows 7. The printer status says ready to print but when the print command is given, the printer gives out a blank page through the feeder. I checked the ink levels and they are not low. The printer has not been used in a long time so I do not know if this will have something to do with it. No error messages are given.
    Thanks

Hi - The first thing I'd try is a self test to isolate the problem.  If the self test isn't printing, than I'm guessing you've got a problem with the ink cartridges (dried up) especially if the printer hasn't been used in a while.  Try following the steps in this document to print a self test.  If the self test comes out blank, you can try recovering the ink cartridges by placing them with the nozzles face down on a damp paper towel (make sure you don't place the cartridges and paper towel on something that would be damaged by ink).  If that doesn't resolve the issue, you'll want to try a new set of cartridges.
    Hope that helps.

  • Scanning with Deskjet F4280 get partial page

I have a Deskjet F4280 which worked fine until recently. Suddenly when I try to scan it only scans about a quarter of the page instead of the whole page and shows it to you like it did a good job. Please help!

Hello @pintastic  , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing scan issues.  I would love to try and help you, but I do need a little information first. I am linking a few HP Support documents below that will show you how to find which operating system you are using. • Deskjet F4280 produces sketchy output

I don't use my Deskjet F4280 often since I bought it in 2008.  I use it most often as a copier, but it worked fine for a while then produced sketchy (lots of skips) output.  Thinking the cartridge was dried up or otherwise dysfunctional, I bought new ones.  Still sketchy ouput.  I'd like to use this again.  Any suggestions?

  • Deskjet F4280 ink globbing up inside

I just opened my DeskJet F4280 to replace the black ink cartridge and noticed a lot of ink splattered under there and globbed up underneath the cartridges. I took out the black and the old cartirdge looks fine. Is there a problem? I am considering buying a new printer and taking back the unopened new black ink cartridge if this is a sign that my printer will be dying!

Hi @rainflower , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're looking into ink in your printer. I'd like to help!
Because it's an older printer, if it hasn't been cleaned before, it's not uncommon to see ink.
If you like, you can unplug the power and clean the printer, using water, lint free cloths and Q-tips.

  • How do i edit a scanned document on a Deskjet F4280?

All my scans end up in HP Photo and i cannot edit documents there. Can anyone tell me how to save my document scans so i can edit them?
    Sandie

There is a page with great information about how to perform scans with and without the HP software for the F4280. This page can be found here.
As to saving scans so that you can edit them. What type of scan are you doing? (picture or text document) What type of edits are you attempting?
What is the operating system of the computer connected to the F4280?

  • Deskjet F4280 - Prints a cartridge Alignment Page every few minutes

My F4280 has decided to printe cartridge alignment pages every time I turn it on or randomly as it just sits there.  When I put the alignment page and hit resume (as it tells me to do) it goes throught some internal movement, then sits there for awhile, THEN prints out another chartridge alignment page.  Tried reloading software, but problem still them.

    Hello ImJustAvg,
this should help. When another page comes out of the printer, first disconnect it from the computer and then place the page on the scanner and hit resume. After its done reboot the printer to see if it will still print a page. If it keeps doing it check the quality of the page. there must be black on it and at least 1 color. not counting the color in the picture of the printer.

  • Printing on HP Deskjet F4280

My first Mac product that I just bought. I can only get my printer HP F4280 to print part of the page I'm attempting to print. What am I doing wrong?

    Hello b:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Without more information, I would be guessing.
The cause could be your printer settings, the driver, and so on.....
Did you buy the printer at the same time? If so, I would contact the store for assistance (hopefully an Apple store).

Hello again , This is a tricky one, but I've got a few more suggestions for us. Let try running a scrubber from the HP software that you have already installed, to remove anything that may already be on your computer from previous attempts to install. Then we'll try re-installing using the HP Printer Install Wizard.  First, let's restart the computer.Once it starts back up, hold down the Windows Logo key () on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box.Type %temp% into the run box and press Enter. The Temp folder will open.Delete all files and folders from the temp folder.
