Hello Everybody !
I have a HP DV5 notebook and install Ubuntu os then white blinking a screen and power off screen but led series is lighting.
What should I do?

It looks like you're trying to install Windows 8. There does not appear to be any drivers available for Windows 8 for this notebook so I can't guarantee it'll work. Do you have the Windows Vista recovery CD's for your notebook, or a copy of Windows 7?
The issue must lie with software as it only presents itself when the drivers or operating system is loaded. Without an operating system installed to run tests or update drivers I'm at a bit of a loss for suggestions. You could try restoring the BIOS to make sure it's directing to the hardware properly: Restoring the BIOS.

HP DV5 1004NR problems with boot up

I am thinking the above named laptop needs a new motherboard or something.
Here is the problem, turn the unit on, all the lights across the top light up, power indicator light up, the lights by the cap lock and num lock key blink back and forth like railroad crossing lights.
There is no display and no sounds, normally you could hear the hard drive winding up or doing some checking but there is nothing.
I have removed the hard drive and the cd drive to see if they were the problem. still did not boot up to bios.
took memory out and tried in a different laptop, memory worked fine so i know the memory is ok
Not sure if there is anything else i can remove and see if that is what is causing it not to boot.
Any ideas or suggestion greatly appreciated. Thank you

I think you have diagnosed it as well as can be done. Yes it is the motherboard.

DV5-1115 Problems with overheating, need help please

So i have a:
Pavilion DV5-1115
AMD Turion X2 Processor (yuck)
ATI Radeon Graphics Card
Windows 7 (w00t)
So I have a program that tells me the tempature of my computer, as I'm writing this my computer is 130F, if i play any games it's 150-170 EASY. I play fifteen minutes of a game on lowest graphics (simular to Dota) (no battery as well) and my comp hits right at 200 and shutsdown... Anyone have any idea how to make my computer cooler?
EDITED: I do want to mention that I did send it in once for the same problem, sending it in again for the same problem, I am an IT student and use it atleast ten hours a day. So until I have to send it away I need to atleast have a temporary fix.
P.S. I have it on a table with fans blowing under it. (so really this is ridiculous)
P.P.S. Hp makes me sad atm.

HP DV5 HDD crash - recovery disk not correctingg the problem

The HDD crashed on my DV5-1235dx and will not boot up past the system diagnostics screen. The recovery disks I created a week before the HDD crash are not correcting the problem. The current OS is Vista Home 64 bit, which was installed at the factory. I have no Vista OS disks to reload.
When using the recovery disk 1 on the crashed HDD, at the HP Recovery Manager prompt, I select format the HDD to recover data, then after the computer seaches the HDD for several minutes, I get an "Error 100" message (not connecting to wireless network). The wireless network on/off touch switch above the keyboard (top, right) is off and will not function as an on/off switch as before the HDD crash.
With a new Crucial 512Gb SSD installed and using the recovery disk , HP's recovery manager software give a 'files missing' message.
Apparently, Microsoft no longer offers a Vista Home 64 bit download even with a valid Product Key and, as far as I can tell, and HP no longer offers a recovery disk for the DV5 loaded with Vista Home 64 bit.
If anyone can offer a good solution for me to breath new life into my DV5 with the old HDD or preferably the new Crucial SSD, I would be very grateful.
Question: Is it possible to purchase a Vista to Windows 7 upgrade and load Win 7 on the new SSD using the Vista product key number on the bottom of my laptop?

Hp dv5-1110ee booting device problem

hello, i have a hp dv5-1110ee laptop with amd processor, windows vista, before it was no display, i fix this problem by heating the vga chipset, the the problem is resolved. now after i get display in my laptop, i get "no boot device detected " when i open laptop and press f9 to see booting devices, there is no boot device, i go to bios and load default value but the problem not resolved, i try also to reseat my hard disk but same thing, last thing i tried is to flash bios with ( "win key" + B ) using flash memory i try the latest bios version from HP and le oldest version, but when i flash with the latest version then i restart and press f9 key in the boot menu i see only my sandisck flash, but no hard disk no cd rom, no external cd rom drive also, any help please, waiting for response and sorry for my english.

HP Dv5-1104tu Startup Problem

I have a HP dv5-1104tu model laptop that doesn't start-up. Last time i hibernate that & now i my unable to start it. When i press power button it light up for a sencond or two and than goes off again. I try to fix it byself using pressing the power button for 10-30 second after removing power cord & battery. I still facing the same problem. Please suggested me the solution ASAP.

Testing the switch which detects lid closed is pretty much the end of the line of troubleshooting.
I suggest asking around to see if you can find a magnet to use.

If you're starting to get Smart warnings, it's probably best to think about replacing the Hard Drive - at the very least, make sure you have a current back-up of all your personal files etc in case the drive fails suddenly.
If you'd like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive, please post back with the full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook ( from the service tag underneath your notebook ) - see Here for a further explanation.

Problems with power button HP dv5

Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion DV5 that warranty was over.
The main problem of this notebook is the power button ( I think ). When I click it, it blinks once the power led ( white color ) and the nothing happens. No screen image, no fan movement. Nothing.
I opened it and I noticed that the link from power button to the motherboard was not in very good status.
So I decided to try with another link cable from another broken laptop. The same thing happens.
Now I'm kinda stuck because I cant start my own laptop. There's any suggestion?
There's a way to "direct turn on" without the power button?
Any help is apreciated.

Same problem I had,I removed the damaged white ribbon connector, taped the ribbon wires over the wires from the board,so that the end of the ribbon was over the leads, then,tacky as it sounds I cut about a 1/2inch of a cigarette filter and taped it over the area where the leads need to make contact . installed keyboard with its screws to hold down the cig filter tight over the taped down leads. quick fix that workes without soldering on another connection

Sound Delay Problem on Pavilion DV5 1138 NR

I have this Pavilion DV5 1138nr Entertainment Notebook PC, and I also have a 23" HP monitor (w2338h). It is also connected through HDMI. The only problem is that there is a horrible sound delay in the built in speakers. So basically, it's like when I go to shut down my computer, it cuts out the first part of the sound, and same when I start it up. Or if I just get an error message, it cuts out the first part. Is there any way to fix this problem?

Oh and I'm running Windows XP Professional (x86). The laptop itself originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium (x64).

I have done all this myself! i need to figure this out asap cause i video dj using vdj and it used to work! i use my hdmi extended monitor a vizio tv that had videos playing on it and i would dj on my laptop! i've done this may times before! i had it setup ready to go did a few tracks and everything was working fine i left it as is and let the other dj go first and he was using his equipment! then when i turned my tv back on from the setting i had left them at didn't touch anything and the videos weren't working! so there has to be something that has just happened and i want to know what it was lol! my laptop shows that it has a monitor connected but, there is no video or sound that i had before! someone i need to figure it out by 11/18/11

Audio problem with Pavilion dv5-1240EW

Hi all!!
I'm here to find help with my audio problem.
My laptop is HP Pavilion dv5-1240EW and i had download the audio form the HP side some time ago and also get new Nvidia drivers. My problem is that i can use the 5.1 sound on my Logitech X-530 because i can set in on my audio setting. I insert the screen (sorry but i have polish version of windows 7)
As you can see i can only one option but i should have also the other like: mono, 2.1 , and 5.1. It's funny but i have the option 5.1 but it disappear. And it looks like this drivers give me only 2 option spekers and headphones and nothing more.... I don't know what to do if the drivers form the original side "crush" my audio setting.The funny thing is that the subufer is working and 4 of 5 speakers work but you know is only right and left the middle is not work. I try to reinstall drivers but it doesn't help i can't find solution to this problem and i lost many hair so if you know how to fix it It was a great relieve to me.

Booting problem with HP Pavilion DV5, Got 2 blinking lights.

Hi,
When I switch my laptop (Pavilion dv5) on , it doesn't boot up. Instead I am getting two lights (Caps lock, num loc) blinking.
These lights blinnk twice a second.
Can anyone suggest me the solution.
following are the actions I have already done (which did not work)
1: Replace the CMOS battery
2: Removed the RAM, Cleaned it (sometimes moisture poroblme), re-insert it.
3: Removed the hard-disk , cleaned it, and re-insert

I had almost the same probleme, laptop was in sleep, tried to wake it up:keybord and light were on but a black screen. Then decided to turn off by holding power. When i start it back i had the cap lock and num lock blinking twice continusly. I hold the power button to shut it down then by mistake touch the ''quick play'' next to the 'mute' and everything was find.

Problem with sound delay from mic to speakers with quickplay on HP Pavilion dv5-1145ev

I have an HP Pavilion dv5-1145 ev. When I try to use karaoke with HP's quickplay there is a significant sound delay from the microphone to the speakers. I also noticed the same delay, even when I am recording my voice with other programs such as audacity. There is a voice delay too. I have windows vista and I have tried to change the settings of the sound from control panel, without any luck. Any suggestions please?

I have an HP Presario CQ61 that I bought to record my own music in tracks and it's useless to me because I have about a second delay from the mic to my recording program and headphones. You would think that with all the brainy knowlage Bill Gates and the computer industry has someone can come up with a downloadable fix for this problem. If I knew I would have this problem before I bought the thing I wouldn't have wasted my money. If anyone finds a fix for this please let me know.

HP Pavilion dv5 notebook PC - audio problems

background music/paid advertisement continues to run and i can't turn it off? The activity does not even show on the task manager?

Are you in the processes pane of Task Manager? If so, select the browser process (firefox.exe, chrome.exe, iexplore,exe) And end it.
Please give Kudos. What other kind of recognition could I get?
