  • G700 shutting down after25 mins after cpu change

hi i got a G700 model no 20251 mobo no 31900003win8.std.mlt, bios version 7acn21ww(insyde h20 rev,3.7 it has a 2020m 2.4 ghz cpu i have changed to a i5 3230m which is on its list of compatable ones it runs fine very quick runs a lot cooler than original cpu problem is  laptop now turns of after 25 mins it will restart straight away nothing from windows to say it has shut down incorrectly or anything else i have updated all intel drivers ran a strees test recomended on this site and ran intels own tester prog any one any ideas i am on latest bios

Thank You, i just looked the HM76 boards-(FRU: 90003042 ) on ebay and for 150$ its not worth it to me to replace the board. The whole thing was only 230ish new(refurbished) from the outlet. So my resolution was to replace the entire computer as this is not mine. We just bought another refurbed model for 350$ ish, this one has the i5/HM76 already. If this was mine i would have replaced it with the 710, right now they are 3 on the outlet and dont have this disaster of mistake chipset.  This chipset should of been recalled, its only 10$ cheaper to mfg than its bigger brother th HM75-76
So next week when the new one gets here i will have a spare to play with and see if there is a BIOs modification  solution to this issue although it does seem hardware based to me

  • P6N SLI Platinum not booting after CPU change

I just upgraded the CPU in my machine with a P6N SLI Platinum motherboard from a E6700 to an E8500.  I first upgraded the BIOS to 1.7 as the MSI page seemed to indicate that was a pre-req for this CPU.  The machine was working fine for a day with the new CPU.
I changed the CPU in the machine and when I tried to boot, the lights on the motherboard came on as well as the fan, but no video or sound.  In addition none of the diagnostic LEDs on the D Bracket light up.  They had been previously working.  Neither do the lights on my memory sticks light up.
I tried clearing the CMOS by hitting the switch but nothing.  I am now going to try switching back CPUs but I don't have much hope that that is the problem given the diagnostic LEDs don't light.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to a fix or is this motherboard fried?
P.S.  Do you hit hte CMOS clear switch when the computer is off but the motherboard is charged? Or do you unplug the computer and wait for the internal orange light to go out as well too?

What is the QC number (by the cpu socket) is 01, 02, or 03?
     See this thread for more:
     https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php/topic,123486.msg932471.html#msg932471
Ah. Given I bought my P6N SLI Platinum 3.5 years ago when they first came out I imagine mine is one of the older versions that doesn't support 45nm CPUs by default.  Is there a photo somewhere showing where the QC number is located exactly on this MB?  It's probably located under my huge CPU heatsink and I'm not going to remove that for a third time just to check.
I really wish the MSI CPU compatibility page mentioned that. It would save me a lot of time.  It's not worth my time and effort to dismantle my PC, send them the MB and wait for them to send me back a compatible one.
I verified the BIOS upgrade by looking at the version number at startup and using CPUZ.

    Hi,
Both processors use the same socket but I can't find a service guide for the laptop. The BIOS might be configured only for certain processors, it means that the other ones won't work. The latest BIOS
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-31521-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
for the laptop is from May in 2005 and the SL7NB was released in October 2004...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_4_microprocessors#Mobile_processors
My simple guess is that it won't work because the before last BIOS is from March in 2004 and the latest fixes only some battery issue..

Good day and welcome to the community.
Please have a look at your hardware manual: http://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/b580_hmm_en.pdf
Manual pages 68-69 show CPU removal and installation details. Manual page 85 (item #21) shows the CPUs that were typically configured in the machine. It looks like you have some choices.
    Hope this helps.

  • P7n platinum no post after cpu change

Just built a new rig, got it up to post screen and freezes.bios is version 1.1. I have read all other posts about this particular problem for p7n platinum and tried all the recommended solutions, none avail.
Tried to flash to bios 1.2 with floppy but floppy didn't boot.
Changed to e2140 cpu, even worse, no screen whatsoever. fans, lights, etc. are running.
Reverted back to the e8400. no screen as well. Checked for bent pins and power connections, all seems fine. Before changing cpu's, it will show the post screen but freezes there.
Time to send back to the reseller?

If your system will boot up with another PSU, what would that tell you about your current one?  It is either defective or incompatible.  In the first case the problem can be fixed by replacing it and in the second case you'll need a better PSU.  One that does not have known grounding/compatibility issues.
ok. But correct me if i am wrong, the first few times booting with the e8400, it will show the screen, doesn't that tell that the PSU is ok with the MOBO?

  • MSI P4MAM-L CPU change now blue screen (Win 2k)

    I have a MSI P4MAM-L VIA chipset board with a P4 2.26 (512/533) processor.
    I need the 2.26 chip for something else, so I swapped it for a P4 1.7 (256/400).
Now I get a blue screen just before the Win 2k logon screen but it reboots immediately before I can read the error.
Does this mean I need to reformat for it to support the old chip or is it likely that some hardware is damaged?
When I removed the heat sink / fan assembly, the CPU was stuck to it and came up with it despite trying to ease it up gently. Could this be the source of the problem and the socket is damaged?
    Thanks.

OK, here is what I've tried:
    Cleared ESCD (worth a try)
    Updating BIOS (1.1 ->> 1.2)
    Reseating CPU / Memory
Changing back to 2.26 chip (works fine)
I've put the P4 1.7 in a Dell I have and I get a blue screen on that too. However this one doesn't reboot immediately and I can read the error.
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, although it doesn't say what caused it. It gives a bunch of memory addresses which I can post, but suspect they will not help in troubleshooting.
From what i've read, I understand that this is usually causes by a software problem.
It's seeming more and more likely that it is the processor that is faulty. Dammit.

  • Suitable CPU change for my PC

I'm looking to upgrade the processor on my 2011 HP Pavillion P6-2000uk PC from an intel core i3 to an intel core i5/7 quad core. In the HP upgrade information it says that this will be able to be done but it says that they should be second generation. Obviously it is difficult to acquire any generation 2 intel processors anymore, so I need to know whether i would be able to upgrade my CPU for a Intel i5/7 Quad core 4th generation processor or what would i have to do to be able to do so?

As far as I know the Satellite 2450 units uses Intel Desktop Pentium 4 Processor Northwood featuring Intel Enhanced SpeedStep technology.
The processor runs at one of the following speeds:
    2.26GHz (1.525volts) / 533MHz
    2.4GHz (1.525volts) / 533MHz
    2.53GHz (1.525volts) / 533MHz
    2.66GHz (1.525volts) / 533MHz
    2.8GHz (1.525volts) / 533MHz
Furthermore you should be able to use the 30GB, 40GB and 60GB HDDs
PS: I dont think that you will find any tech manual for Toshiba units. Such documents are not public interests but only for the Toshiba authorized service partner.

  • P965 Platinium won't start up after CPU change and swap back - HELP Please

    Hi all,
I have a P965 Platinium which has been working perfectly.  I decided to try upgrading the CPU and put in an E5700 (socket 775 CPU) which I now realize is not supported.  So I removed it again and re-installed the original CPU but now it won't boot - fans come on, HDD and DVD power up, but the Video goes into sleep mode.
Any thoughts ?  This mobo doesn't appear to have any sound / beeper or at least, there's no beeps coming from anywhere.
Do I maybe need to clear some condition which was generated after the invalid CPU was tried ?

    No joy :(
There is a beeper connected to the mobo and there isn't a sound out of it at all so I'm completely confused right now.
The CPU and Graphics Card fans are all firing up OK and the CPU gets hot confirming too that it's also getting power.  I tried the modo with the CPU and no heatsink and the system shut itself down which was obviously to protect itself so again it seems to me that the syste is still alive.  I also tried another graphics card but also no joy.

  • CPU change from Sat 1800-814 to 1800-100

I have a 1800-814 which has a duff motherboard (apparently very common). I picked up a 1800-100 base and was able to get it working with the 814's screen as a Celeron 800.
Can I use the 814's 1100P3 CPU and heatsink on the 100?

    Hi
If I am remembering well those two units have different CPUs and I think that something like that is not possible. By the way: generally the CPU replacement on Toshiba notebooks is not possible because of TCP (Tape Carrier Package). This is a permanent connection method.
    Bye

  • Hlp: Windows install prob after mb/cpu change

    I just changed my old Socket A set to a new MSI K8N Neo Platinum + A64 3000 + 512 MB Pc3200.
As i started it up for the first time, it seemed to work ok, until it started to load windows XP from the HD. It restarts after 10-15 secs. By turning auto restart on system failure off in the Windows start up menu, i got to see an error message: "0x0000007B". The system seems to have trouble with starting windows after the mb switch.
I looked it up on MS's homepage and got instructed to reinstall window. It seems that windows cant load the new mb chipset drivers and so on automatically, they sort of clash with my old via socket a mb-drivers. The second alternative MS gave me was: repartition the harddrive, format and THEN reinstall windows. :(
I really dont feel like reinstalling, what with loosing all the program and game settings and installs and so on (and on and on and on) , so i wanted to know, is there an easy way out of this?

Whoa!  Hang on.  Just do a repair install.  It's no big deal.  It will keep all your settings and all your software intact.  You will need to reinstall windows critical updates, so don't connect to the internet until you've started your software firewall, unless you're behind a router/fw in which case you're safe.  Also, you'll need to Re-Activate XP, which is simple too.
After you do the repair install and get into windows, then load the system drivers (and sound drivers if needed) off of the MSI disk.
I was amazed at how simple this whole process was - and when I was done I was staring at the same desktop, just at new superfast speed (I upgraded from a 450mhz to the AMD 64 3000+).
Do I google search for Repair install XP and there's lots of step by step instructions out there.  Here's one link:

Means the chipset and socket doesn't support that processor type. If you want a more precise match you need to tell use the Socket type number it has.

  • No Bios Screen After Cpu Change

Hi guys im new here and couldn't find a way to post in the assistance forum.
My issue is that i just upgraded my bios on the 945GCM5-FV2 oard using the usb utility and the flash went fine but when i put in my new E7400 the monitor just blinks and shows no display save a black screen. But if i reswap my old P4 3.0Ghz it works but for a slight bit i got the E7400 to work when i took one stick of ram out but when i restarted same issue ram in or out.
    What gives?
    Thanks

I don't know why you say there's no clear CMOS jumper, it's the 3 pin JBAT1 near the lower left corner of the lower left SATA port. Just below the battery.
Yup, it's supported on the MB that uses the 17.x BIOS but not the one that uses the 15.x BIOS.

  • HP 8540s i7 quad CPU change out

    Hello again friends!
This time I have an extreamly "interesting" question:  I have an HP Eleitebook 8540s, w/ an  i7 quad, 1st gen chip. The motherboard is an HP1521. I have an Intel processor from a Lenovo, G500s Touch. It is a core i3, 3rd gen. chip.
My HP i7 quad  has a socket # 989rPGA. The Lenovo, has a socket # FCP GA 988. Although these 2 are not the same exact match, will they be interchangeable? Perhaps I should be asking this question to the Intel community forum? I am not a member there, and was hoping to get some input from the HP "experts"! Thanks!

No a 3rd gen i7 will not fit in a socket made for a 1st gen. 988 pins will not fit in a 989 pin socket.
