Hi everyone,

  • KN9 Platinum - is audio output via both SPDIF ports possible??

I am looking at this board because it has both an optical and coaxial SPDIF output - can you tell me whether these can be plugged into and used simultaneously for HD Audio output. ie I want to be able to output a single digital audio stream from an application like PowerDVD via both connections.
Note this is not about multi streams from different applications - just a single stream via both SPDIF ports.
For an HTPC setup I want to be able to take the optical SPDIF output to a surround sound receiver and the coaxial SPDIF output into an HDMI enabled graphics card which includes audio input so I can then take both video/audio to another monitor.
    Thanks for your help.

Yes, audio will do this video won't.

  • The Connect from Intel Pro/1000 T to 1000base-t Port on Catalyst 4000 (WS-X4412-2GB-T= module) Not Working Properly

The connect from Intel Pro/1000 T to 1000base-t port on Catalyst 4000 (WS-X4412-2GB-T= module) is not working properly. The Intel Pro/1000 T NIC connects to a 10/100 OK. Auto-negotiation is set at both ends. We can successfully ping across the link. However performance is so poor as to make the connection unusable.

When an Intel Pro/1000 T NIC is connected to a Catalyst switch, the customer may see poor network connections or excessive numbers of dropped packets. The problem arises when a module with a TBI interface transmits an odd byte packet to a receiver with a Gigabit Media Independent Interface (GMII).
The interoperability issue is a result of the implementation of Carrier Extension. Carrier Extension is detailed in sub section 35.2.3.5 in the IEEE 802.3 specification. Carrier Extension can be used to pad the last byte of a packet, so the packet is aligned on an even numbered boundary.

  • Dv5t-1000 CTO Sound sputters and OS slows down after a few hours

    I am running Vista 32bit SP1 on a DV5T-1000 CTO machine, 4gb ram 2.0ghz c2d
I've noticed that after a few hours of use, usually after I leave the machine on alone and coming back to it, the sound completely degrades and the OS response completely slows down to a crawl. It is especially prominent if I go to something like youtube and watch a video. the whole thing sputters and stutters and sounds horrible and the os slows to a crawl.
however, if I pause the video, until it's fully loaded, THEN play it, all is well, and my OS goes back to full speed...
but the longer I leave my PC on the WORSE it gets. if I leave it overnight, and come back in the morning, the result is horrible. I have an audio alert to notify me if I have email. normally it just does a quick 'beeep-booop, taking about a quarter of a second' as it flashes the message in the corner. If i leave the machine on over night, the next morning the message will go 'b-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-p-p-p-p-p-p b-b-b-b-o-o-o-o-o-o-p-p-p-p-' and takes about 5 seconds to complete the notification!
At this point, if I try to restart the computer, or shut it down from the start menu, it does nothing. I go to start select restart, nothing. I go to start, select shutdown, nothing. I have to physically hold down the power button and kill the computer!
I've updated to all the latest drivers for all my components straight of the h-p site. I even tried upgrading my nvidia drivers to the latest from nvidia.com. that didn't work so I reverted back to the h-p ones (from LAST YEAR by the way, can we get an UPDATE!)
so please, tell me WHAT GIVES! In addition to using my computer for daily activities, I also produce music on it. And if I use my pc for more than 2 hours, and I want to work on music, I have to reboot or suffer as my computer completely locks up.
PS. this thing says I cant make a word using the letters h and p... is this a JOKE?!?!?!?!?!?!

sorry about my tone, I don't realize how I sound when I'm typing, though I do think it's ridiculous that a forum about h-p doesn't allow you SAY h-p
anyway, I'm still at a loss for what to do, and it just occured to me that this may not be the place to get official help. are there h-p people here? or should I be contacting support? I have a feeling all they're going to tell me is to update the drivers...

  • HP Pavilion dv5t-1000 HDMI TV display error.

My laptop  HP Pavillion dv5t-1000 with Windows vista 64 bit will not display from laptop to TV with HDMI wire anymore. It makes a clicking noise (error noise) when I attempt to connect it to TV with HDMI wire.  I was watching a football game on the computer and connected it to the TV with HDMI wire and it was working well.  I left for a while and came back and battery was dead on laptop so display stopped.  I plugged in computer and now can not get computer to display back on TV again.  I downloaded driver
     NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS/9600M GT Video/Graphics Driver
    2008-11-14 , Version:7.15.11.7904 D, 160.11M
and it still does not work.  Please help me solve this issue.
    Thank You

Install this driver direct from NVIDIA.
     http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-258.96-whql-driver.html
Save it to the desk top and install it from there, do not install it from a temporary folder.
Install it over top of your present one, if it does not install there is a procedure to uninstall the old one first.
The other thing to do is to choose a Windows restore point when the HDMI connection was working.

  • Can I use hard drive from bestbuy for my Pavilion dv5t-1000?

Hard drive is failing on my Pavilion dv5t-1000.  Do I have to use an hp replacement hard disk because of a partition that hp adds to their hard disks for recovery?  Can I use my HP Recovery Disks and recovery backups on a store-bought hard drive?  No longer under warranty.

    Hi:
You should be able to do that with no problem.
Just make sure the disk drive you purchase is the same specification (SATA II, 2.5") and size in GB (or larger size) then the original one.

  • Is there a VI which reads audio signals off optical SPDIF port?

    Hi,
I am trying to capture audio signals from a DAT unit on to the computer's hard drive. Could you please tell me how can I read these signals off an optical SPDIF port using Labview and save the streamed data as a wav file? I am using an audio capturing interface called the Edirol UA-5 to transfer the audio signals from the DAT unit to the Mac's hard drive.
    Thanks,
    Bhuvana

    Hi Bhuvana,
There are not any VIs in LabVIEW designed specifically for SPDIF.  There is, however, a tutorial on reading an SPDIF signal using LabVIEW FPGA.  You may also be interested in this thread which discusses the use of a digital data acquisition board and the rate needed to read an SPDIF signal.

  • Pavilion dv5t-1000 Hard Drive question

    Hello.
This is probably a simple question but I'd like to know how many internal hard drives does my HP Pavilion dv5t-1000 support: one or two?  The specs I found online for my machine suggested that it can support two drives but I don't immediately see where the second drive would be housed if it does.
I don't have much experience with taking apart laptops but I was able to upgrade my RAM just fine.  And when I took the HD plate off and lifted up the hard drive housed inside, all I could see was the wireless card underneath and seemingly no room for a second drive.
So, does my dv5t-1000 laptop only support one hard drive?  And if it should happen to support two drives, where exactly would the second be housed?  I wasn't adventurous enough to take apart my laptop to find out so any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
I look forward to your helpful responses.
    Thank you,
    winebaron

    Hi,
The dv5 series really only supports 1 HDD although there are conversion kits available that will allow you to install a second drive in the optical drive bay - an example of this sort of kit is Here.

  • Dv5t-1000 thermal pads

My dv5t-1000 seems to be running hotter than normal. It's 5 years old now and I figure it would be reasonable to overhaul the cooling system. The fan doesn't seem to be blowing much air anymore, so i"m going to replace it, as well as clean out as much dust as possible (shouldn't be hard since I will need to take the laptop completely apart). I'm also going to replace the thermal compund and thermal pads. The problem is, I don't know how thick the pads need to be and I can't find this information anywhere online. I really only want to have to pull everything apart once if I can help it. Can anybody tell me how thick the new pads I buy need to be?
TLDR: How thick are the thermal pads in the dv5t-1000?

I got a set of K5-pro and K4-pro thermal pastes from ebay ( www.ebay.com/itm/261419323645 ). K5-PRO is a thermal paste for themal pad replacement. I use it in all cases instead of thermal pads and I don't have to care about thickness any more. Copper has better thermal conductivity but it is impossible to make it fit on the GPU and under the heatsink perfectly and it is electrically conductive so still K5-PRO is much better I think. K4-PRO is the best thermal paste for reasonable cost that I have used so far. You only need one small drop on the CPU.
there is a video about these products on youtube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9v5MDivZfc
K5-Pro is also avaliable on Amazon... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K04D3UK

  • Windows 7 64-bit Webcam Drivers for dv5t-1000

I have to say, the dv5t has been rock solid and performs admirably for the 3+ years that I've had it.  In terms of operation it is nearly perfect.
Here's my problem.  I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64.  Everything works except for the webcam.  It is not detected as an unknown device.  To the OS, it appears that it just doesn't exist.
    Here's what I have tried:
Installing all the drivers for 32 bit and 64 bit Vista and Win 7 that could possibly related to the webcam to include various iterations of "HP MediaSmart Webcam Software" current, past and old versions for all the related dv5t models.  The software will not install due to no detected webcam.   I did get version 2.2 to install and it runs but you can't do anything due to no webcam being detected.
Then, I went to the Intel website to ensure I had the most current chipset offered.  According to Intel, everything was valid or current except my wired NIC.  I updated that.  Still, to no avail.
I have done numerous hardware scans and still no detection of webcam.  I have all the latest patches from Microsoft and HP where applicable.
I tried to look up the actual manufacturer to the webcam for a model number and work backwards from there, but I was unable to find any info on that.
Contacting customer support didn't yeild any results. (they have been great in the past, btw)
I tried seaching in the HP forums and across the internet.  In the forums there are others that do and don't have the same problem but it wasn't clear which flavor of dv5t they had.  I tried the solutions offered in the forum but still nothing.  The internet didn't get results on this issue either.
The webcam did work with Vista Home 32, the OS that orginally shipped with the laptop and i have tried those drivers too.
If I had to guess the is just some disparity between the OS, webcam or motherboard.
Please, if you have a solution, post and share the wealth.
Really, I am satisfied with the dv5t as it's the only model of that type at the time to offer a 16 x 9 screen (all others were 13 x 8 and WOW what a difference).
Anything definitive to resolve this would be great.
Thank you in advance for your time on this.

In device manager tick Show hidden devices, under view on the toolbar.
If DM cannot see it you cannot install a driver, not sure why that hardware will not get detected.

  • How to recover my product key some letters were scratched hp dv5t 1000

    Hi
My hp dv5t it runs window vista home perimiom 64 bit has crashed and I tried to recover my window but the product key has some scratched I could notread the last 3 letters. Please help me.

The only way you will be able to recover it with the delivered operating system is with a recovery disk set.
Since the operating system has crashed you can't recover the Windows Vista product  key with any utility I am aware of.
It sounds like it is time to purchase an operating system with activation key. It will not be easy to find  a copy of Windows Vista for sale.  Windows 7 is supported on your notebook. Drivers for Windows 7 are here. I recommmend that you use the 64-bit version.
I wish I had better news for you but I don't.
    Best regards,

  • SPDIF port/cable

what is SPDIF? is it using a special cable?

    smileemile wrote:
yeah. my computer has a 3.5mm jack labelled spdif out, but when i try to connect a regular cheap laptop speaker and it is still working fine. could that mean that my speaker can decode digital optical signals?
Nope, as I said, usually such jacks can also output standard audio signals.
It could be optical output, or it could be digital output that is "switchable", e.g. the port can be used as either standard line out or digital.  I know my Asus has an LED for optical on the end of its line out jack, so it can do either analog line out OR digital output.  Most Sound Blaster cards put a digital signal on one of the pins of the 3.5mm jack, and require a 3.5mm-to-RCA adapter in addition to changing some driver settings.

You are correct. If removing the Hard disk allows entry into the BIOS then the drive is faulty.
