Hi Everyone,

Basicly i have vga port and a hdmi port and i want to hook up 2 monitors either side of my laptop, but i have pluged them both in and i can only have 1 working at anytime not both monitors. Does this laptop support 2 external displays or only 1.
Thx in advance..

  • HP Pavilion dv6-2114sa keyboard problems

The keyboard for my laptop has been acting very wierdly. Most of the keys work fine but some ofthem do not bring up what they're supposed to.
For example, when I press the 'b' key, it brings up 'bgtv' and when I press the 'y' key, it brings up 'nhy'
I am falling behind with my university work because it takes me far too long to write with   the on-screen keyboard  so please help

99% of the time keyboard problems are caused by a worn and/or  dirty keyboard.
The only solution is to replace the keyboard.
     http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313&_nkw=Pavilion+dv6-2114sa++keyboard&_sacat...
Above are just some examples, HP made silver, black, copper etc colours.
Consider a wireless or wired USB keyboard if you're not inclined to replace your own. Usually it's cheaper to by an external one then it is to pay a shop to do it.
If you want I can help you to track down the correct one and install it.

  • Dv6-7014nr Does it support Wake-on-LAN, WoWLAN, or Wake on USB.?

I am not finding Bios settings for any of these features. Inn fact the BIOS looks prettypaltry.  Am I missing a hidden menu or something or is the BIOS really that bad feature-wise?  I found the USB "allow this device to start the computer" setting in the USB device powermanagement settings but I can't select it.  Is there a way to enable that setting?

wake-on-lan must be enabled already and no option for customers to configure in BIOS because these are consumer units and not many users use such options on this platform.
I can see that network driver in device manager gives you option to configure Wake-on-Lan under device propertties>Advanced tab. several options such as wake-on-lan magic packet - Shutdown wake-on-lan etc...
yes the options may be limited to driver used. if its factory image or drivers are used from hp.com; that should give you options.

  • Using the correct charger for hp dv6? 90 or 120w?? which one? help!

Hi guys, currently im using a charger from my hp dv6-6153sa, but i need to cut this story short so you understand.
First of i changed the motherboard in this laptop, the motherboard is from the hp pavilion dv6-6198sp however the battery is from a hp dv6-6b60sa.
    So the charger i'm using is from a hp dv6-6153sa which is a 90w charger. 19v 4.74a
So am i right in thinking i would be better of using a 120watt charger?
Any advice would be much appreciated! thanks
    This question was solved.

The specifications that I  have seen show a 120 Watt power adapter is required for both. So yes, you should use a 120 Watt power adapter.

  • Touchpad not working in HP ENVY-dv6

    Hi,
I have the same touchpad problem in my envy dv6 7382la laptop. I tried all possible solutions  detailed in the forum but none work. However i want try updating the Bios. There is a problem installing the last  version for win8 in my win8.1 OS???
(the page have not the last Bios version for win 8.1)
    Thanks,

    Hi tinti80,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having trouble with your touchpad. I am happy to help you with this.
Like you, I checked and I cannot see a specific Windows 8.1 BIOS on the HP ENVY dv6-7382la Notebook PC support page.
In the absence of the BIOS the best bet then would be to be sure all the other device drivers are up to date for windows 8.1
You mentioned that you did the troubleshooting detailed in the forum for your issue, but it looks like your post was moved so I cannot see what may have been done or what process you followed. Just in case I have included the following:
Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8)
Please double check that you have done all of those things.
If that does not help then in the absence of a windows 8.1 BIOS to try, I would try calling technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • Installing graphic card drivers kill windows

    Dear all,
It all started when the computer suddenly turned off. On turning it on again, it wouldn't enter Windows. It stayed forever (>24h) in the screen "loading windows". Entering in the recovery mode, none of the offered options would help (no restore points working, no recovery function working, no automatic repair.... nothing).
I decided to recover my important files and go for a total cleaning. So I used the Knoppix Live CD to enter with Knoppix into the computer and save all my files in an external disk. Then I used the Windows 7 Live CD to reinstall windows 7 from scratch, saving nothing from the previous installed OS, and formating the hard drive, and even joining all partitions in one.
Windows 7 Home Premium was installed successfully with the original Product Key. Then, I downloaded all drivers for the dv6-6193es from the support.hp.com website (a total of 48 drivers) and installed them all sequentially.
From the 48 drivers, 40 are installed successfully, 6 don't manage to install (see list below, although I suspect it's not really important) and 2 of them return me back to the original problem: sp53025 and sp55092. These two drivers are related to the AMD RADEON graphics card.
After installing sp53025 driver, and restarting the computer as required for the installation to be completed, the windows would not load and would get stuck in the "loading" page forever. I manually turned off the computer and with the Windows 7 Live CD restarted the whole process (format, reinstall Win 7, re-install all drivers from the beginning, skipping sp53025...). Until I reached sp55092, and again the exact same problem. This time, I had created a restoration point which luckily could be restored from the Win7 Live CD so I could go back to the moment before installing sp55092.
What is the problem? Is the graphics card dead?
Just for reference, the other 7 drivers that could not be installed are the following:
sp52473 - "The computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software"
sp53402 - "This softpaq will not be installed because HP Recovery Manager cannot be found in your system."
sp54471 - "The computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software"
sp55063 - "El hardware Bluetooth debe estar activado para ejecutar este paquete de instalación"
sp55093 - "Fresco Logic USB3 Host Controller is not found!"
sp68351 - "Softpaq does not apply to the system, no HP Recovery Manager installed."
PS: in addition, this message window pops up every time I turn the computer on:
Any feedback and/or help on my problem will be highly appreciated!

This could be good advice. But does that mean I should ignore the updates that windows and ATI's built-in driver update finds? If so do you have a link to the URL of the legitimate drivers? That would be greatly appreciated. That way I can test your theory and possibly salvage the machine.
Yes, don't use Windows Update for the Switchable graphics update. Only use HP driver site for switchable graphics drivers. And disable ATI/AMD update to prevent those updates. Put this way if you don't see that switchable graphics update on HP then don't update it-they tested and configured it for the stablility and updating it without confirming that the update is a verified it is for switchable graphics.

  • Why no Support available for DV6-1161TX model?

    Hi,
I have "HP Pavilion dv6-1161tx Entertainment Notebook PC" but there are no Support & Drivers available on HP website now.
May be HP has stopped production for this model but atleast they can maintain drivers for old models so their customers don't face any issue.
Any Idea where i can get the drivers of this model, earlier it used to be there at HP website but now it doesn't even recognize this model when put in serach box.

    Hi,

I think the high heat situation and damaged your video chip at the very least and someone will have to open the laptop and reflow, reball or replace the video chip. If this machine is in warrantee, you need to call HP or contact them before it is out of warrantee.

  • Does dv6-6153cl support SATA III HDDs?

I'm having trouble with my laptop and I think I've narrowed the problem down to the HDD. I want to replace it, and upgrade it, but I'm not sure what HDDs I can use.
I'd like to know if I can install a SATA III HDD into my dv6-6153cl laptop. From what I can tell it currently has a SATA II HDD installed. Can I upgrade to SATA III or am I stuck with SATA II?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Get the SATA-III. Even if the motherboard would only support SATA-II (not true in your case) you can use SATA-III drives. SATA is fully backward compatible. But, again, your motherboard has the HM65 chipset which supports SATA-III. A good rule of thumb is if it has USB 3.0 it also has SATA-III. Not 100% true but awfully close to always true.

  • Does DV6-6136tx support SATA III?

I just bought this DV6-6136tx a week ago and I'm wondering if i can use SATA III SSD on it.
The chipset is HM65 which should be able to support SATA III.
I want to confirm this before I upgrade my harddrive to SSD.

    Thank Kamat & Pepe.
I heard that there is a difference between the cable for SATA II and SATA III.
Do you know the connector within this laptop is installed for SATA III or only for SATAII as Kamat said?
And by the way, are you guys from HP?
The SATA III connectors may have more pins than SATA II but because SATA III is compatible with SATA II the connectors look like the same. I believe that SATA III connectors in Sandy Bridge laptops are installed for a hard drive and for an optical drive. I mean 2 different cables from 2 SATA III ports on the motherboard..
Yes, Kamat works for HP, but I don't..

  • Pavilion dv6-6c35dx - Sound not working after a HP Support update

    Pavilion dv6-6c35dx with windows 7
I recently did a factory reset, and with the reset had to do all the updates. One of those updates from the HP Support assist was IDT High Definition Audio CODEC version 6.10.6381.0 on driver stwrt64.sys. And with that update i no longer have sound. When i put the cursor over the sound icon on the toolbar it says no headphones or speakers are plugged in. I already tried disabling and re-enableing the AMD HDMI output audio device through the control panel menus, didnt work, also it says its not plugged in. When i go into the hp supprt assist, to troubleshoot, to audio and sound, the status on the IDT says Error(52).
    How do i fix this?

    Hello everyone,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
It would appear that you two are experiencing different issues. I will definitely address both of you!
First, I feel it would be wise to perform a System Restore. You can return the computer to a point before the issue existed. Here's how to do it: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7)
If that doesn't work, then look at the below suggestions:
*Before any real troubleshooting, please put your computer in a clean boot state. This should prevent third-party programs from interfering. This document provides information on how to do it: How to perform a clean boot in Windows*
*Next, unlock a new Administrator account, so we can troubleshoot on a clean account. Open Command Prompt as Administrator, and hit Enter after typing the following: net user administrator /active:yes
You will be able to log out of your current user account, and log into the Administrator one.
*Finally, make sure all of your Windows updates are complete:
    1. Open "Windows Update" in Control Panel.
    2. Click "Settings", and then click "Install optional updates".
    3. Next, click "Check for updates".
If that step doesn't work, then look below for the appropriate troubleshooting:
@epicness50 , you need to perform all of the steps in this document: No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 7)
Also, since there is a Device Manager Error 52 issue, you may want to look here for additional information and suggestions: Code 52: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device
*The above Microsoft document is for Windows Vista and Server 2008, but the troubleshooting can be done in Windows 7.
@LENNY12 , you mentioned you uninstalled and reinstalled Support Assistant. However, I'm going to ask you to do it again, but with a little more troubleshooting to address what could be causing the issue.
Source of the troubleshooting is my own post: HP Support Assistant Windows 8.1
Uninstall your version of Support Assistant in Control Panel, Programs and Features, then restart the computer.
Solution: Download Support Assistant from its own special home
    1. Click on the following link: HP Support Assistant. It will bring you to the following page:
    2. Click on "Notebooks, laptops, netbooks " under "Download HP Support Assistant". It will prompt you to download it. So save it, then run it AS ADMINISTRATOR.
If either of you are still experiencing issues,  I would perform a System Recovery to reinstall Windows. This will rule out which of the above options are to blame.
First, you should backup your data. I will provide information on how to do that: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7)
Once this is done, it is safe to do the System Recovery. Here is some information on how to do this: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
Thanks and have a great day!
