  • What is the best laptop cooling fan for a macbook pro?

I have my macbook on basically all day every day and I just want a nice cooling fan for underneath it so it doesn't overheat on me

I've never had any overheating issues, even when it is hard at work with several VMWare Fusion instances running concurrently. Just placed it on top of a Roadtech Coolpad (a passive laptop stand) and it's kept its cool thus far.

  • Laptop cooling fan constanly on

    Hi--
I have a Portege Z930-BT9300 and my fan is constantly on even if the laptop is idle or just booted up. No programs are running and the laptop is also not even hot and the fan is on full blast. It is annoyingly noisy. I checked PC Health Monitor and temperature is around 40-60% and the fan is on 90% all the time. I have tried all sorts of tweaks in the settings to bring down the temperature and performance - processor settings, battery settings, power settings, fan settings and nothing helps. I have also updated the BIOS and TVAP. I tweaked the settings there for the fan and performance and still nothing. These are all suggestions that I saw from the forums and research I made. Also, I have consulted an official Toshiba service center to look into my laptop and they said there is nothing wrong with the fan. In my research, this problem is not exclusive to Portege laptops. I have emailed Toshiba in the "contact us" address and even facebook but I have yet to receive a reply.
Does anybody know a solution to this fan problem?
    Julius

Dokie, I agree with your philosophy,
Here's some more from my many years with laptops.
Little dust is found in a laptop (except on the keyboard dust plate), but ANY almost invisible dust on the fan blades will have a major impact on blade efficiency. Every 2 years I blast high pressure air with a straw onto the fan blades. You don't even have to open the laptop if you're lucky to see the blades through the air ports. Makes a big difference in terms of cooling, fan wear, and battery life.
I have win 8.1 (not by choice) but would be very happy with win XP SP3.
At bootup my laptop uses less than 1.4 GB of ram instead of over 3 GB by turning off superfetch and Toshiba HDD preloading. Even though I have 16 GB ram (not my choice). Less HD wear, battery use, and less time to de-/hibernate. Also, HD is set to turn off after 1 minute; confirmed on my dell laptop with HD-activity LED, I don't trust the Toshiba HD activity indicator.
My Firefox browser uses ram as cache so that it doesn't use the HD, and it should be faster.
I still don't reliably know if 2GB dedicated ram to the nvidia graphics card is being used. Intel HD graphics drivers doesn't see it but NVIDIA does. Only the latest driver from yesterday seem to help, and with reduced power consumption. I'm not sure if Intel or nvidia graphics drivers are being used right now; although intel had a higher rating in device manager.
I have seen many people get their laptops stolen in coffee shops. I got mine stolen after putting it in my paranoid-friend's jeep with tinted windows and alarms. The thief saw me put in the back and busted the window; but did not steal anything else.

  • G56 Notebook cooling fan

    Hello,
    My daughter has a G56 - 106EA Notebook.
The cpu cooling fan ran for some time very noisily and then stopped working.
I bought and fitted a new fan and turned the laptop on and the fan starts and then falters to a stop.
I have checked both fans and they do run when connected to a battery.
SpeedFan software shows the fan has zero rpm.
I re-installed BIOS F.18 as it was suggested this could solve the problem, but it didn't.
    Is this a motherboard problem?

    Hello again stylova,
To find out how a cooling fan works, I recommend following this document on How Does a Laptop Cooling Fan Work? This should help illustrate it's function and basic maintenance.
Since the Battery Test produced a "not installed" result, I recommend contacting our technical support at 1-800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • What is the typical cost of replacing the cooling fan the laptop is HP Pavillion DV6 6165tx.

What is the typical cost of replacing the cooling fan in a
laptop computer ? (In India in Indian Rupees)?
The laptop is HP Pavillion DV6 6165tx. The cost means
    fan cost plus labour charges.

    Hi,
You should know this better than us. Normally part is around $40 (more or less) and labour can be $50 to $200. I would charge this for $400 (minimum) or free.
    Regards.

  • NEW 3 week old HP Pavilion dv6, cooling fan always running

Hi the cooling fan in this laptop always seems to be running fast enough to be irritating, it was like this out of the box, other laptops I have had usually only run the fan during periods of heavy CPU usage but this one is running fast all the time. Any ideas, and dust in the vents is not the problem, BIOS ?

I also have the same problem. 8 month old HP Pavillion DV6. Bios updated and air vents cleaned. Fan runs constantly even without any load on pc'n.
Installed programme Core Temp to see temperatures and fan runs even at a temp. of 41C. Bios has a function to disable fan from running all the time, but even then, the fan seems to run almost constantly, plus the standard setting for Bios is to have fan runing constantly enabled. Would be greatful for any help/suggestions. This seems to be a problem for this pc when searcing for solutions on the Web.

  • G6 1c58ca laptop want to replace cooling fan and copper part

i have probelm with cooling fan being really loud and making way too much vibration that actually numbs my hands while using wireless keyboard on same desk. so, i have taken apart the laptop to clean the cooling fan area with compressed air, and assembled it again, and ran the laptop.
a littble improvement but still same problem.
so i came to comclusion that the hardware part itself is the problem and i want to replace it.
so my question is where can i find or buy the cooling fan and copper colored line that is connected to cooling fan?

looked at amazon but they only had coolingfan part not the copper colored line.

  • Hi i have cooling fan(902) issue. my laptop wont run anymore asking me to ctc you

    Hi
i have a problem with my hp notebook. it's only been bought last year. all of a sudden it's says there is a problem with the cooling fan and its (902) .  It's not running anymore. pls help me with this issue as i don't have my laptop working for more than 4 days
    many thanks

That kind of problem requires sending it back to HP if you are under warranty. If not you have to replace the cooling fan, which is a pretty major job. The BIOS will not allow the laptop to boot into Windows if the cooling fan is dead. I can't tell you exactly how to do it because you don't tell us what kind of laptop you have.

  • Cooling fan makes noise n laptop freezes

    hi,
     i got a satellite -215 S4747
after i start my cooling fan starts making some noise as if its struggling to rotate, n within few minutes laptop freezez,,
i got it checked der was no dust or anything found on the fan..
    pls help.

Is your model A215-S4747?  Support site here
If there is no dirt clogging the heat sink fins, and none in the fan blades, then it may be the fan itself is/has failed.  replace fan or attempt to relube existing fan.  search the internet on how to restore a fan by relubing.  I think replace would be better, and what you may ultimately have to do anyway.

  • 3 USB ports missing +5 Volts., HP X18 1027CL Laptop, Win7, USB powered cooling fans, no message.

Has anyone else seen this before.  I have been using this process to supply coooling to the laptop for a long time, but today the cooling fans quit and now none of my USB ports will recognize any of my devices that require +5 Volts.

You should have used the cooling fans with an externally powered hub. You may have fried some of the traces going to the Southbridge chip on the system board of your notebook. This limit for a USB port is in most cases 500 mA. You may have exceeded it.

My MBA fans start running when I play video too - the CPU's video processor is working pretty hard to decode the video. The fans job is to provide better airflow.  The time to worry is when you play video and the fans don't run.

  • The cooling fan is strangely noisy

Hi, I'm using dv6-6023tx laptop for 1 year. Its cooling fan was ok since when i purchased it, but it suddenly became so noisy with annoying spinning sounds from the last few days. I don't know why it happened. I didn't touch or change any hardware and software conditions, I was just using it as normal. I guess it happened because of dust or something like that but I'm not sure.
    What should I do?

first step is to clean it with a can of compressed air by blowing it out in reverse of flow direction. holding fan blade still with a metal pin or similar through grill vents is good idea.
After cleaning check fan is running & air flow seems good.
If fan noise still noisy is it due to worn bearing (more mechanical noise) or because fan running faster & longer due to notebook actually being hotter.
It is posible you have processes stressing the computer & it is actually running hot & the fan is just working hard.
Review all processes & CPU use & also monitor actual temps with software like HWinfo
