What to do ? no acceess to Hp, based in Pakistan. kindly post help. Worried.

Hello,

  • Booting Satellite A105 to Recovery Disk

I have a Satellite A105-S2716. I want to reformat the drive and reinstall the factory default installation. I can't get the machine to boot to the recovery DVD. I have tried using the f12 or the C key at startup, but every time I try, it boots up to XP on the hard drive. Thinking I had bad media, I ordered a new recovery disk and I get the same results with it.
I saw the thread on using DBAN but I'm afraid to do that without some knowledge that the computer is going to boot to the recovery disk after formatting the drive.
What do I have to do to make it boot to the recovery disk. I find it hard to believe that I would have to reformat the hard drive to make it boot from the optical drive.
    Thank you.

I have tried using the f12 or the C key at startup, but every time I try, it boots up to XP on the hard drive.
I assume you can read DVDs from the optical drive using Windows. The problem may be due to a broken BIOS. You might try flashing that.
ACPI Flash BIOS version 2.00 for Satellite A100 (PSAA0U/PSAA1U)
Or you can change the boot priority in the BIOS so that the optical drive is seen first. You can do that from Windows on the Boot Priority tab in HWSetup. Look for that in Start > All Programs > Toshiba > Utilities.

  • Dual boot using supplied XP recovery disk on Portege R500-11C

I have a new Portege R500-11C which came with Vista Business installed, but also has an XP Pro recovery disk as well as a Vista recovery disk. The laptop also came with a partitioned hard drive.
I would like to use the XP recovery disk to install XP on the 2nd partition (drive E), without erasing Vista, so that I have a dual boot machine. Does anyone know if this is possible, perhaps by using the expert rather than standard mode?

    Hello Elanor
Just short comment to all this:
    > When I asked Toshiba support if I could use these disks to make a dual boot machine, they said no, that the XP > recovery disk would wipe the Vista installation - but posts here suggest otherwise!
I do not know on which posts you think but I am also pretty sure that you can not use two recovery DVDs with different operating systems to install two operating systems and make dual boot. Unfortunately I have no possibility to test this but, as far as I know, you can not install recovery image on unallocated disk space.
Just for example: if you use Vista recovery DVD and install OS on new partition using SETUP option (for example you can take 50 % of HDD capacity) using second recovery DVD (WXP) you will not be able to choose second partition as favourite place to install WXP. You can just do the same as with Vista recovery image.
For older notebooks recovery menu was different and using expert mode it was possible to choose already existing partition for OS installation.
If you have some time please test it and give some feedback. It can be very useful info for al of us.

  • Can't boot EQUIUM L300 using recovery disk

    Hi,
I am looking at a friends L300 and it begins to boot Vista and gives the 'WINDOWS ERROR RECOVERY' window.  When you continue with the repair option the laptop then continues to 'load the windows files' and moves onto the next part which shows Microsoft Corparation with the loading bar.
After about 40 to 50 seconds everything stops.
I have purchased a recovery disk (as the owner does not have one/did not create one) from Toshiba using the serial number on the base PSLB2E-003004KS.  When I load from the recovery disk I get exactly the same result as above.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks for reading.

So the recovery appears to run to completion and then Windows won't boot. Is that what happens, Andrew?
Be sure there are no peripherals connected to the computer.
Otherwise, I can only imagine a hardware or BIOS problem.
Can't hurt to flash the BIOS.

  • Hard drive detected but will not boot Windows Vista or recovery disk

    Hi,
I have a very similar issue with a HP Pavillion a6355.uk, the hard drive kept crshing windows and then it finally just kept getting pass the HP boot menu options, and then all I get is the DOS "@press ctrl+alt+del to restart".
The hard drive is detected and passes all the tests, after pressing F9, going into the F10 options. F11 does not do anything, so cannot recover windows/the system.
I have tried changing the SATA connections on the motherboard, no difference. I tried the recovery boot disk I created when it was working and it will not boot with the old or new hard drive I bought to replace it (same size and compatable).
I cannot find where to partition the new hard drive or format the c: on the old one (it had D: for the recovery, but as it won't boot, cannot access this).
I have also tried the HP website to dowload the drivers for the new one, but the page does not load up to show any drivers or Windows to download.
    http://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/HP-Pavilion-a6300-Desktop-PC-series/3644673/model/3671505/driver...
The next page just keeps looping or not proceeding when I put in details.
I can’t find anywhere to get hold of my copy of windows vista for this PC or get a disk to re-install on a new drive or fix the old detected drive, can someone please help!!

Just what size HD and is the drive Sata II or Sata III?

It's the recovery disc that we've made.  If you go on the support and drivers area of website it explains this and says to order new recovery discs.  I am having the same issue and so have ordered the discs and hope they work!
Mine is doing the exact same thing so it's almost like it's caught in a loop.  When I reboot I have to use F11 to get back into system recovery and then get almost the same error message.  Just a few numbers changed and I suppose that is b/c we have different notebooks.
You can use ctrl alt delete to reboot and then also try to run some of the other commands..I went in b/c I am also getting bootmgr is missing and is the setup it wasn't turned on any longer, but it still didn't help.  Anyway, I am waiting for my discs and hope they get me going again.  Good Luck!

    Hello jen2win
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I understand you are experiencing an issue with your notebook. However, since this is a commercial notebook, you should post your issue on the notebook board of the HP Enterprise Forums for a better answer.
In addition, you may want to try the Bootrec.exe utility, which may resolve the issue for you. This Microsoft document instructs you on how to use it: Use Bootrec.exe in the Windows RE to troubleshoot startup issues

  • Satellite 1130-Z25 - missing recovery disk

    Hi all,
my Satellite laptop needs to have Windows XP Home repaired/reinstalled and I'm missing the recovery disk.
A friend used his recovery disk to reinstall WinXP but it doesn't accept my licence key.
Can anyone suggest what I should do next?

    Hi
Usually the serial key which could be found at the bottom of the unit does not work with the other Windows operating systems.
The key belongs to the OS which is a part of the Toshiba image
If you need an Recovery CD try to contact the ASP in your country to get a new compatible CD for you Satellite 1130-Z25.
But note; As far as I know if the notebook series is too old then you will be not able to order such CD due to some restrictions.
In such case you will need to buy an original Microsoft Windows OS to install it on the notebook.
Then you could use the Toshiba drivers from the Toshiba European driver page
    Check it out

  • Satellite P500 - Restart loop after using Toshiba recovery disk

    Hi,
I have got a problem recovering SATELLITE P500. I had made the recovery disks. It boots ok from the recovery disk and formats the hard drive and copies the disks to the hard drive. It then starts windows setup and reboots.
Then it goes to a loop
    1) Start up and says "Setup is preparing your computer for first use"
    2) Toshiba banner saying please wait... Finnishing installation may take several minutes. Pleae do not interupt or shutdown the computer!
    3) Windows logo
    4) Shutting down...
    5) restarts and goes to 1)
It would be great if some one could help me with this.
    Many thanks,
    Softari

    Hello
I have noticed the same on my Satellite P500 but I must say its not an issue, its absolutely normal. The notebook will restart several times (10 times or more) to finish the installation.
You must know that a lot of drivers/tools will be installed and certain restart must be done to configure everything properly.
So dont interrupt the recovery installation, just wait a little bit longer and drink a coffee. Everything happens automatically and your notebook will be reinstalled with factory settings. :)

  • Satellite Pro L300 PSLB1A: Recovery disk not working - 0xc000000f error

I get error 0xc000000f when restarting and if i try the recovery disk i get error error: 10-FC12-0241
operating system is vista business and laptop is toshiba L300 PSLB1A - 02S008

    Hi
You mean you cannot boot the notebook using the Toshiba Recovery disk which you have created?
Go to the BIOS and check if the CD/DVD drive is recognized. It should be listed on the first BIOS page.
If the CD/DVD drive is not listed then you should set the SATA mode to compatible and should save the changes.
After that try to boot again from the Recovery disk.
    I also searched on the Toshiba European driver page for some info and found some details;
There is a firmware update for CD/DVD drive TS-L633A and TS-L633P.
This Firmware solve "Sometime not able to writing on DVD+R media".
The issue happens only DVD+R media, other kind of media have no problem.

  • Recovery disk assistant

I'm making a recovery thumb drive with Recovery Disk Assistant and have a couple of questions.
    1. I have a mac running Mavericks and another running Mountain Lion.   Can I use the same recovery disk with both?   Should I create separate partitions on the USB and run recovery disk assistant on each mac in turn creating a separate recovery disk in each partition?
    2. I've tried it out and testing is a bit of a mystery.   When you boot up with Command-R how do you know you have then booted with the USB recovery disk and not the internal recovery on the Macintosh HD ?
    Thanks

    1. No. A Mountain Lion Recovery HD and a Mavericks one are different. You will need one for each
    2. You boot from a Recovery USB disk using OPTION, not COMMAND-R:
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the desired disk icon from which you want to boot.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.

  • Can't recover XP from partition OR recovery disks

    Lenovo 3000 N200 with XP.
I've been trying to do a system recovery back to factory settings using the the boot recovery option at startup.
It took 3 attempts (2 crashes) just to get XP back up and running, but it was completely blank with no software or drivers and no internet connection to download drivers etc.Just the lonely recycle bin icon in the corner. Well this is uesless I thought and decided to have a go with the recovery CD's instead. When the first CD has done it's thing it asks for CD number 1, which I put in, and it tells me it's the wrong CD. I have tried all the CD's I have and they are all the wrong CD apparantely! So I was going nowhere with that method and decided to revert back to the initial boot method. Only that is completely messed up and now asks me for disk 1 which doesn't work.
So now my laptop is knackered with no way of reinstalling XP from either the boot menu or the recovery disks. I've even tried installing XP from an official Windows XP disk and it's not having that either!
What can I do? Ask Lenovo for a set of recovery CD's? How much would that cost? And would they even work?
    Thanks for any advice
Message Edited by bobtheblob on 10-03-2008 04:50 PM

if you call Lenovo up you may still get the recovery media (probably cost around 30 pounds), otherwise you need to download an XP iso from web  or borrow a XP cd from your friend and your own serial number on the bottom of the laptop, and then you download the corresponding drivers from lenovo.com. If you use your own XP then you won't have your own predesktop area like you use to. h

  • When I erase had drive, do I also erase the recovery disk?

Using Mavericks and need to erase disk because it is sold. When I hold down option key, it shoes the CCC clone which is the temp boot drive and its recovery disk. It also show the Mac and recovery disk.
I have to install 10.6 on this and want to find out if I erase both of the10.9 disks, HD and Recovery and if so, what order?
    Thanks,
    Don

You must repartition the drive in order to remove the Recovery HD. Do the following:
What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
