HP DV6 Screen hinge broke

Hi,
I have a HP Pavillion DV6-3225dx running Windows 7 (64 bit). The left screen hinge is broken, there is a threaded metal tube that came out and some of the plastic of the sides have broken off too. I haven't made any physical modifications to the computer. It is out of warrenty (ended April 2012). Is there any way that I can fix this without forking over a ton of money?

You can perhaps find the hinges cheaper on ebay....I grabbed the first one I could find but I saw single hinges as low as $7. The job is modestly difficult. The manual will show how to do it. Replacing the hinges will stop the plastic damage. However, if the mounting points for the hinges is damaged, you will be forced to buy a new lower casing which is a little expensive. Otherwise, you do not have to replace the lower plastic casing but you may want to do it for aesthetic reasons. If you have to replace the lower housing, the big job becomes a really big job.

  • DV6 damage repair: Screen hinges

Well to put it simpley, my DV6 screen was opened past its limit, and ripped off.  This thing sat for quite a while, I didnt want to mess with it, until yesterday I found that it still works fine, other than a small gouge in the screen corner ..  Sooo... I'd like to see if I can get this thing back together.
The hinges come out of the laptop, and have a plate going inward and outward. The outward flanges were ripped off and still attatched to the screen itself. The thicker, inner flanges ripped the screw bosses out of the plastic back cover.
I attempted to rig it up via JB weld, but the plastic is just too weakened to even temporarily hold the screen long enough to attempt epoxying the other side of the hinge back together.
Had the outward hinge flanges that the screen itself mounts to not broke off, I would get a new screen back cover and swap everything out. But, since the metal hinges themselves need to be replaced, I'm lost.  Is this something I could do myself? I'm sure if I browse around I can find a schematic or something that might give me some clues. Has anyone done this type of repair before?  I'm not really that worried about the plastic hinge covers, but there may be other bradded or plastic welded pieces I may not be able to replace..
You'd figure by now, man would know to hide his valuables before breaking up with crazy girlfriend..

    Hey AndrewH85,
I see that you're having an issue with the screen and hinges.
The best way to go here is to probably find a tech to replace it for you.
This is far more complicated than a lot of people think especially if you have an issue with the LED/LCD inside the screen.
Now, I don't advise you to replace it yourself. You can call HP @18004746836 and see if they have any option to help you repair it.

  • My HP envy ultrabook left hinge broke and now my screen wont light up

So I have had this computer for a little over a year and a half and about 2 months ago my left hinge broke. I was out of the country studying abroad so there wasn't much I could do about it. After I got home I didnt have the time nor the money to fix it so I was just carefully opening and closing it. Well today when I opened it, the screen wouldn't light up. I really need to get it fixed fast because I am a full time college student and my classes depend on having a computer. What can I do? Oh I should say, it is not under the warranty anymore.Help please?

Hi HP + all, I am currently in a similar situation. The bottom left part of the frame (very close to the left hinge) is detached from the screen, making it difficult to open and close the laptop. I have had this problem at least two (most three) times in the past year and each time have sent it to HP for repair while having the one-year waranty. It appears to be an issue of faulty glue, but if left untreated, the opening and closing gets more difficult (even while I hold the frame and screen together while performing such actions) and the left hinge will start creaking. My warranty is expired and the additional repair period that HP gives after a repair (30 days? 90 days? I forgot) is over. My last repair was in late 2013 or early 2014. I do not carry my latop by the frame at all, and I treat the Ultrabook with care (gently placing on table when using after first frame separation). I no longer close it at all and only use it on my home desk. It's very frustrating to repeatedly have the same issue, very frustrating that I can't take it to public places without risking something, and it also makes me unhappy since each cycle of sending the laptop over and waiting for it to come back takes away a week or more of work. Can someone please address this? I am nearing my wit's end with this repeated issue. Thanks.

  • Hinge Broke on G560

    Hello,
I have had my laptop for almost a year now; I got it as a gift from my parents last year, including warranty from a chain store. There has been no real issue up until last month. Earlier today I set my laptop aside before going through some school papers. After I was done I picked up my laptop and set it down next to me and proceed to open the lid like I have done million times before. As I opened the lid I heard a crack as my right hinge broke. A part of the hinge fell off, which I put to the side. I didn't harshly open the lid, nor have I ever had a cracked or broken hinge.
Another issue, a small issue, I noticed is that a month ago I noticed a crack in the frame (or whatever you would call it) around my laptop screen. It was a bit close to my left hinge, if that has any bearing on anything. The crack got a bit worse, as it lost a bit of plastic, but I didn't fret over it since a bit of cosmetic damage was nothing compared to the horror of my last two laptops.
I'm wondering how common an issue with the hinges, or the laptop cracking in general is. I see a lot of issues with my model of laptop having heating or sleep mode issues, but nothing really about the hinges cracking, the laptop frame breaking, or anything similar.

I also live in ellicott city

  • Hp pavilion g6-2217CL left screen hinge

My left screen hinge has for some time now been tearing apart the base of the laptop. I purchased it back in June of 2013 and do not know what is wrong. My laptop freezes when trying to boot as well now due to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can not afford to replace this laptop at this time.

  • MacBook Pro Screen Hinge Tightened?

Can anyone confirm that the new MacBook Pro's (purchased recently) have the screen hinge tightened?

I have a new MacBook Pro 15" produced in 2008, week 51. It has this same problem with the hinge. As long as the MacBook is sitting flat, the screen will stay put. However, if the base of the MacBook is tilted at 45 degrees or more the screen will close until it is a couple of inches from being fully closed.
Many people don't care about this and ask why anyone would want to do that. However, for me and others who like to use their MacBook while lying on a bed with knees drawn up, this presents a problem. I consider this lack of tension in the new MacBook Pro hinge to be a design flaw.
I've tried this with older 13" MacBooks and older 15" MacBook Pros (from early 2008) and none have this problem. Those models have stiff hinges that hold their position no matter the orientation of the MacBook.
Has anyone learned whether or not it is possible to adjust the tension in the hinge? I have heard of people having the hinges tighted in older MacBook Pros but I have not heard for the latest MacBook Pro models.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Satellite Pro A300D-131 - warped casing and screen hinge scratches

Has anyone experienced a warped casing around the power button, mine is raised a good 1-2mm.
I also notice that the screen hinge clearance between the hinge and body is so tight that the silver effect finish it scratched to bits. The laptop is only a couple of months old and it looks decidedly tatty already, it just looks like poor case design.
    I have Satellite Pro A300D-131.

I have Satellite A300 in front of me. The notebook belong my girlfriend and it is about two months old. I have checked described areas and I didnt notice anything unusual.
To be honest I do not like this new Toshiba design because I like to have most of the ports on the back side but this new design has made by Toshiba to have more stabile screen hinges.
If you really think there is some serious problem I recommend you to contact nearest authorized service provider. They should take a look and give you advice what to do.
Discussing here on the forum will not help you much.

my screen is broke and can't type my passcode in. plus i never plugged my phone into my computer. how can i backup my phone so i keep all my information before i buy a new phone?

It's too late for that. Maybe you should consider setting up your next iPhone to backup to iCloud... it happens automatically without user intervention once it's set up. All that's required is a power source for the phone and a WiFi internet connection.

  • Tecra M5 - How to remove Screen Hinges

    Hi,
I need to replace the screen hinges (well one of them anyway)
I have the maintenance manual and hte computer in bits.
The manual says "Remove the hinge (left) while sliding and turning it." but no matter how hard I wiggle/slide/turn I cant get it out.
Same problem with the one on the other side.
Anyone ever done this and have any tips or know of an instructional video somewhere?
    TFAI

Hhhmmm - I'm not sure. Yes, of course, you can screw up and I wouldn't do it on stuff that was precious but this is the first time I've been stumped and I've done a CPU, a fan, a reflow with a hot air stripper and a couple of new screens over the years all on the basis of the manuals. Jolly good they are too.
Anyway, if I don't find an answer in a couple of days, i'll reverse the repair process (I was going to replace the entire section but now I'll have to take some bits (speakers, touchpad etc) out of the replacement part and put them in the original and hope the rest works :-)
Anyway, I'll post again if I find the answer to the hinge problem.
    Thanks for your interest

  • Late 2013 iMac 27 inch, hinge broke by itself...

I got my maxed out iMac 27 inch just few days over 1 years ago...
Wasn't doing anything to my desk or iMac, but I just hear loud "tick!" from my desk, I thought some metal part fell out from my desk or something...
But it turned out to be hinge, now my iMac is alway looking down...
I did some research, looks like this is one of the common problem for 27 inch iMacs...
Now, magically my hinge broke just few days after my apple care ran out...
How much is it to get this thing fixed? I'm trying to contact apple support, but chat, call, I have been holding for 45 minutes now.
I spent about $3000 and I'm still paying for it, and they make and give me something that last One year and Two weeks?
This is sad... anyone got cheaper option to fix this please help...

  • Top cover hinge broke

My wife lifted up the printer, the top assembly swung open and the left hinge broke.
    Is there an easy repair?
Does the printer have to go back to HP for repairs?

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? Did the part actually break or did it just slip past the stop?

  • V5-571P screen hinge

Hi All, I've had my Aspire V5-571P for a while and I love it.  However with heavy use over the last few years, naturally the screen hinges suffer a little bit. My predicament is that the hinge is fine, but the actual connection (be it glue, or screws) between the screen and the case have become worn and eroded, to the point where the hinges can only support the screen at a certain angle. Picture (not sure why its rotated..):  So the top of that hinge would usually be connected or welded in some way to the screen casing. My question is what do I need to do to fix it, and am I able to order any parts so that I can install it manually myself? Thanks.

  • Screen hinges loosen fast?

I got my powerbook g4 last april. The screen was always loose, just never took it in. I took it in last Feb. Then took it in again a few weeks ago. I know the display will be loose by the end of the month. The warranty will run out april 7th. I know that there is a 90 day warranty on each repair. I was wondering if anyone else with the Power Book G4 15" Aluminum have been experiencing these issues with the display hinges, also instead of just repairing, which will just continue for A very long time will they give me store credit or replace it?
    Thanks for the help.

The reason that im not getting applecare is that it is $350. Also own a ibook G4 use it very much, and the screen hinges are very tight on it after 3 years. Do you suggest I call apple on it? I mean I have A 8yr old gateway laptop that I used to use so much, and the screen is still very tight on it. It really bugs me how much I will need to take it in to apple. I know that this is the major weak spots on most laptops, but it seems like the powerbooks (at least mine) is very bad. I take very good of this power book. Thanks for the help.
