HP dv6t fingerprint sensor suddenly doesn't work anymore
Hi there,
I own a dv6t with fingerprint sensor.
When coming back this weekend, which I didn\t spent at home and forgot to turn off my laptop, the fingerprint sensor didn't work anymore.
Usually, when you come close, there is a white light on the left side, and when scanning a fingerprint, it becomes orange.
But when sliding my finger above the sensor, no light is switching on and the sensor doesn't scan my print.
I restarted the laptop already, but it didn't change anything.
Did I switch it off, like you can do with the wireless adapter?
There is another question, for which I should open a new thread, but maybe someone over here knows a quick-fix:
My "FN" key is permanently locked, which means to reach the F1, F2, elc. keys I have to hold the "FN" key.
I would like to have it the other way around, where the F1, F2, etc keys are default, and you have to hold the "FN" key to activate the special functions.

Try a hard reset, works sometimes.Disconnect all external devices first.
1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 30 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
4-power on
As for the Fn key, some models have a setting in BIOS for this.

PS CS5 real time drawing suddenly doesn't work anymore
Suddenly real time drawing didn't work anymore. Neither with the brush tool nor the stamp tool for example. I didn't do any changes to the computer in the meantime.
If I deactivate OpenGlide everything works fine again but there is no change if I swich it on again. Restarting the Computer also didn't work.
Did anyone have the same experience or do you have an idea how to solve that problem (e.g. delete OpenGlide preferences for PS)?

I forgot to update the grafic tablet driver as the system was running fine before.
I had the Cintiq 21 UX 6.1.1-2 (wacom) driver installed and fixed it by installing the 6.1.6-4 driver.

If it helps other users it happened using PS CS5 12.0.2 on a Dual 2-Core 2,8. with MacOSX 10.6.6 (latest versions) installed. -
I am totally frustrated with Thunderbird. All I want to do is send and receive email, but I always run into problems. This time I cannot send or receive emails because the password is incorrect. I haven't changed my passwords so why is this happening? I removed all passwords to my emails and Thunderbird still asks me for my password. I enter in nothing or my old password and still nothing. Please advise.
has your provider webmail? Try the passwort there. Maybe you have been locked out because you entered the wrong password too many times.
Maybe you are using the wrong username.
check if your e-mail provider has a step by step manual on how to setup an account with Thunderbird. -
ipone 4s display suddenly doesn't work any more. most of the time i can't even unlock my iphone as it puts the numbers itself. and if i am lucky to unlock it opens apps and does everything else whenever my finger comes near the display without even touching it. I did reset and also updated my operating system. But the problem stills shows up... can anyone help please?

email send/receive suddenly doesn't work (as of September 24th); I can't change email settings (one suggestion from tech) as BB phone won't accept *valid* username and password -- what to do?
I understand from a support note that if I keep trying my password/username combination, my BB will eventually delete all data!
I can't understand this. I'm completely lost now. I can't remember what I've done or tried to do. A plethora of usernames and passwords is swimming in my head.
Thanks for any hints. I have always loved this BB Bold and have never had any trouble with it.But the real question is why for the past year did the passwords work and then all of the sudden after this anomaly the disk password doesn't work? I'm not 100% sure of what my configuration was, but I know that most of the time it required one password -- supervisor, and occasionally it asked for 2 -- disk password as well I believe. This may have been related to the Password on Restart setting I think -- asking for the disk password on cold vs. warm boot. But I know both were exactly the same. But after this incident only the Supervisor password worked.

IChat video suddenly doesn't work...
My fiancee and I have been using iChat for the last few years - the video and audio have always worked fine. She is in the USA and I'm in England until we get married in November. Last night, when I got home from work, it suddenly doesn't work. I'm on a MacBook running 10.4.11 and use AIM on iChat and she is on AIM on a Windows Vista laptop. I have a different Error code in my Log.
You have Error 8
This is a bit of general coverall error code.
It means that it cannot make a Connection (it has excluded other items such as Internet Speed (Error 22) and issues over routing (error 7) and a "missing" camera)
One cause is when you set up Port Forwarding in your router for iChat and then the computer's IP Changes
This means the router is "pointing" the ports to one IP and the computer has another.
You have the three titles in ther Log (which I have now spaced out)
Normally there is more info in these sections.
The rest of the Log is not useful at this stage (I can't see that it mentions any iChat add-on)
Check the IP in use in System Preference > Network.
Compare this with any IP that is listed for Port Forwarding in the router.
Ideally the router should be using UPnP to open the ports (it lets your do Screen Sharing in iChat)
The router should not be doing Ping Blocking or have any DoS or SPI Security Filters

All of a sudden, report doesn´t work anymore
Getting really tired of this whole SCOM-thing the last days.
Now the reporting doesn´t work anymore. We changed NOTHING.
State went from Zero to Healthy 4:14 PM on friday last week. Alright.
But a few hours later, when nobody was here anymore, it changed to EROR.
How can that happen?
Reports are EMPTY suddenly. You can't start report-tasks anymore. They disappeared.
We checked:
- Discovered Inventory -> Data Warehouse Synchronization Server
- State is Critical.
- Display name is wild numbers+characters, is this normal?
- Health explorer says:

Generally these errors are caused by improper SQL SRS configuration, to confirm SRS is initialized correctly, are you able to navigate to http://localhost/reports or http://localhost/reportserver?
Are you upgraded to SP1 RC yet and have you the latest versions of the MP' as a lot of these reporting issues have been resolved?
Also re-check all your SRS accounts have the relevant permissions and all permissions in IIS are correct?
You could try resetting the SRS configuration and re-install Reporting.
1. COPY the ResetSRS.exe file in SupportTools folder of the OM 2007 media to
C:.
2. Open a Command Prompt and change your path to C:.
3. Type "ResetSRS.exe MSSQLSERVER" where MSSQLSERVER is your SQL instance
name.
4. Then open Reporting Services Configuration Console, select Web Service
Identity and click Apply.
5. Finally, reinstall your reporting service by running OMSetup.exe again.
In addition, please provice the event ID under event vierwers, so that we could analyze it further.

We're developing this site http://scholzandbarclay.businesscatalyst.com based on the http://uguru-interior-design-us-feb52014.businesscatalyst.com template. After making a few minor changes late yesterday, the hero orbit slider suddenly doesn't work. All changes made were rolled back to working version, yet the hero still doesn't work.
I have recopied all the page code from the uguru-interior-design template into the scholzandbarclay site, which also did not work. All other code, scripts, styles have been checked. Can't find anything. However, when the pages render there is a difference (see screen captures)
in this one, the ul has no orbit
in this one, the script has added the orbit code.
Again, all scripts, code, styles have been checked.
What am I missing?

iMessage doesn't work anymore suddenly. It claims that my apple id had changed, which isn't the case (App Download still working!) . Then it shows the correct Email-adress and asks for appleID password. After entering it switches to a mask witch asks for the eMail adress that should be used. There is the right One already preentered. From there it switches back to the former mask (appleID +password) and nothing happens. If you say Log in again, ist just switches between those masks without showing an error claim nor logging in. Strange thing is ist worked proppperply till a few days ago.......

If you get to step 3 I recommend closing ALL the apps.
Here is step 1 to get you started.
Restart iPhone
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPhone not responding? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next.

Time Machine Just Doesn't Work Anymore
I was a happy Time Machine (with Time Capsule) user for months. But it just doesn't work anymore. It takes longer than an hour to do every hourly backup so it is backing up 24 hours a day. It finds hundreds of thousands of files changed every hour and tries to back them up. Finders says only tens of files have been modified all of today. I have tried rebuilding my spotlight indexes, repairing my Time Capsule with Disk Utility and starting over with a brand new backup. But it just backs up hundreds of thousands of files every hour. So I am turning off Time capsule since it is clearly broken. If anyone has any suggestions at all I would welcome them.

Consider the following, it might give you some ideas:
Time Machine performs backups at the file level. If a single bit in a large file is changed, the WHOLE file is backed up again. This is a problem for programs that save data to monolithic virtual disk files that are modified frequently. These include Parallels, VMware Fusion, Aperture vaults, or the databases that Entourage and Thunderbird create. These should be excluded from backup using the Time Machine Preference Exclusion list. You will, however, need to backup these files manually to another external disk.
One poster observed regarding Photoshop: “If you find yourself working with large files, you may discover that TM is suddenly backing up your scratch disk's temp files. This is useless, find out how to exclude these (I'm not actually sure here). Alternatively, turn off TM whilst you work in Photoshop.” (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1209412)
If you do a lot of movie editing, unless these files are excluded, expect Time Machine to treat revised versions of a single movie as entirely new files.
If you frequently download software or video files that you only expect to keep for a short time, consider excluding the folder these are stored in from Time Machine backups.
If you have recently created a new disk image or burned a DVD, Time Machine will target these files for backup unless they are deleted or excluded from backup.
Installing new software, upgrading existing software, or updating Mac OS X system software can created major changes in the structure of your directories. Time Machine will backup every file that has changed since the installation.
Files or folders that are simply moved or renamed are counted as NEW files or folders. If you rename any file or folder, Time Machine will back up the ENTIRE file or folder again no matter how big or small it is.
George Schreyer describes this behavior: “If you should want to do some massive rearrangement of your disk, Time Machine will interpret the rearranged files as new files and back them up again in their new locations. Just renaming a folder will cause this to happen. This is OK if you've got lots of room on your backup disk. Eventually, Time Machine will thin those backups and the space consumed will be recovered. However, if you really want recover the space in the backup volume immediately, you can. To do this, bring a Finder window to the front and then click the Time Machine icon on the dock. This will activate the Time Machine user interface. Navigate back in time to where the old stuff exists and select it. Then pull down the "action" menu (the gear thing) and select "delete all backups" and the older stuff vanishes.” (http://www.girr.org/mac_stuff/backups.html)

This disk utility feature creates backup copies of your system directories. Obviously these directories are changing all the time. So, depending on how it is configured, these backup files will be changing as well which is interpreted by Time Machine as new data to backup. Excluding the folder these backups are stored in will eliminate this effect.
*Backups WAY Too Large*
If an initial full backup or subsequent incremental backup is tens or hundreds of Gigs larger than expected, check to see that all unwanted external hard disks are still excluded from Time Machine backups.
This includes the Time Machine backup drive ITSELF. Normally, Time Machine is set to exclude itself by default. But on rare occasions it can forget. When your backup begins, Time Machine mounts the backup on your desktop. (For Time Capsule users it appears as a white drive icon labeled something like “Backup of (your computer)”.) If, while it is mounted, it does not show up in the Time Machine Prefs “Do not back up” list, then Time Machine will attempt to back ITSELF up. If it is not listed while the drive is mounted, then you need to add it to the list.
*FileVault / Boot Camp / iDisk Syncing*
Note: Leopard has changed the way it deals with FileVault disk images, so it is not necessary to exclude your Home folder if you have FileVault activated. Additionally, Time Machine ignores Boot Camp partitions as the manner in which they are formatted is incompatible. Finally, if you have your iDisk Synced to your desktop, it is not necessary to exclude the disk image file it creates as that has been changed to a sparsebundle as well in Leopard.

IMac freezes & Time Machine doesn't work anymore
Hello,
For several days now my trusty iMac (two years old) keeps freezing without a recognizable pattern. Programs like iTunes, iPhoto or maybe even the Finder just stop working and display only the rotating ball - the only thing left to do for me after that is to manually terminate that process or (in the case of the Finder) to restart the whole iMac. I'm really clueless as to where this behaviour suddenly comes from, up until about a week ago the iMac worked perfectly. And now something like this happens every single time I start it.
Another thing that doesn't work anymore is Time Machine. My last automatic backup is from September 17th. After that it just stopped working. Every time an automatic or manual backup is initiated it just says "Searching for backup volume" but doesn't find it, even after several hours of looking. The Time Capsule itself works perfectly, no errors whatsoever.
My iMac is up-to-date, I also already ran the disgnostics of the hard drive program - everything seems to be fine. Can anyone help me?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
