  • I have limited storage laptop, I want to delete music from hard-disk

I have a limited storage laptop, I want to delete music from hard-disk and just leave it on my 60Gb ipod, BUT I dont want to have to log in as a guest every time.
    Any suggestions

Follow the instructions in this article and then delete the songs from your computer; they will not be deleted from the iPod automatically. You should have or make another copy of the songs before deleting them from the computer, as they can easily be lost if they are only on the iPod.

  • Where could I buy a new hard disk for my macbook pro 15''(MB986CH/A)

Does anyone know where I could buy a new hard disk for my macbook pro 15''(MB986CH/A) (mid 2009)? The hard drives sold in Apple Store are not for macbook pro... Thanks a lot!

At one time Apple use to put an Apple firmware on the drives installed into Mac computer. That is not the case anymore. And even if they did that firmware was just to indentify the drive as an Apple drive. Those same drives would work in any computer and any drive would work in a Mac computer. Same is true today. There are NO Apple Mac drives. Apple uses the exact same drives as any other computer.
Apple uses the exact same hardware as all other computers. Same CPU, GPU, RAM, Drives, DVD drives you name it, it is the same as any PC.
Good Luck but just because you go to a Mac-centric store doesn't mean it is any different then what you would buy some place else, other then it may cost more from one of those Mac-centric places.

  • New Hard Disk, But Catalog Still Pointing to Old Hard Disk

This has been increadibly frustrating.  I was doing what I thought would be a simple Hard disk swap to a larger size for an expanding catalog:
Installed new drive (windows 7 machine)
Copied entire contents of the old drive (includes the catalog and all media)
Changed the old drive letter to something new (still has all the media on it)
Changed the new drive letter to the old drive letter in hopes that Adobe would recognize this as where the media is now located.
When I opened up elements organizer and the catalog is located on the new drive, but the media is still pointing to the old drive.  What is going on here? I feel like Adobe is trying to outsmart me with their database or something.  Somehow Adobe is following my old drive around.
I tried another route where I did an adobe restore using "original location"  and the darn thing restored to my old drive.  Isn't "original location" tied to a drive letter?
    -Dazed and confused.

    Simple answer :
No, the drive location is not tied to the drive letter only. That was true in oder versions before PSE6. That led to so many problems with the generalization of removable USB drives that Adobe tied the drive location to :
    - 1) drive serial number
    - 2) drive letter

    Yes it is...

Yes, original location means the original physical media.

  • Pavilion G2-b27SA Laptop Won't Boot - Fan Whirs and Hard Disk Light Comes On but Nothing Else

    Hi
My Pavilion G2-b27SA laptop won't boot. The fan whirs, the hard disk and wirless lights come on but nothing happens on-screen and the fan goes quiet after a couple of seconds (to a low whir).
I've gone through and tried the solutions in this thread - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-e-g-Windows-8/Laptop-will-not-turn-on/td-p/102825 - with no luck. Specifically, I've tried a hard reset and hitting F10 when the laptop tries to boot. Neither has had any effect.
Is there anything else I can try to get the computer working again? If I take it to a laptop repair shop (I'm out of warranty) will they be able to do anything, or is it effectively dead now?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The laptop can always be fixed if you have a bottomless wallet. On a no-start with flashing lights it is likely the motherboard and a motherboard replacement if you have the shop buy the board and bill you for labor will be about $300 give or take 25%. Before we give up, it could be bad memory or a few other less expensive things. Assuming they do not charge too much just to diagnose it; take it to the shop.

  • Argh Can't find a new laptop mini antenna connector adapter for my tuner

It's the little mini connector that came with the antenna.  it allows you to plug a standard coax cable into the mini tv tuner input.
Does anyone know a product number or somewhere I can get one?  I've looked everywhere!  HP Parts department was useless.  They just looked in the manual and then said 'nope' go talk to tech support.
HP tech support can't find it.  I've looked through every post in this forum.  Looked all over notebook review forums.  Searched everywhere online.  The tuner in my device manager is described as:
    HP ATSC/Analog TV Tuner
If you have one and aren't using yours, let me know.

This company made the tuner in my dv4t. Scroll down on this page.

It's about 4 items down. I hope it's what you need. It looks like mine.

  • Where are my games (following a hard disk fail)

I have a Macbook V1 and have been religiously backing up my machine from the moment I bought it. Last weekend the hard drive failed. I have reinstalled OSX (using the same naming conventions), fully updated it to the latest version and imported all my music files into iTunes. However, I had all the games and can't find any of those to import.
Could someone please tell me where they are or, alternatively, offer a better way of reinstating my iTunes library given the fact that I have everything backed up to an external drive.
    Many thanks
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The games are located by default in:
Home > Music > iTunes > iPod Games folder
You can do a spotlight search on files with the ".ipg" extension as well.

  • Where is the directory for the hard drive?

Yesterday I bought my first Apple product since my iPod Touch (2nd generation) -- the new Mac Mini. Using Migration Assistant, I moved a huge amount of files from my Win 7 PC. The problem is I cannot find any of it. When I use Spotlight, I can find documents, but cannot find where each resides on the HD. My daughter is an avid Mac user and she was mystified when she didn't see the name of the computer in the upper righthand corner of the menu bar.
Any ideas where I can find the contents of the HD?

Hi, & a warm welcome to the forums & Macdom.
To get you started, I'd get Find Any File...
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
It will show you the path to files you search for.
Most Migrated files would be in your User's folder, & likely Documents within that.

  • Where can I get a new hard disk in the UK?

I have a Hitachi 80Gb internal hard disk (Hitachi HDS722580VLAT20) which TechTool tells me is failing. I can't afford to have a new one fitted, so I think I'm going to have to do it myself.
The trouble is that I can't find one anywhere. Apple don't seem to sell them and so far any search of the web has been fruitless. Anyone recommend a UK supplier for these?

Have you tried to repair the disk using Apple's Disk Utility or whatever options TechTool offers?
More drastically; have you tried Zeroing All Data on the drive and re-installing the OS? This can cure many Hard Drive issues unless the drive really is on it's way out.
But to answer your question...The iMac G4 uses a bog standard 3.5" IDE/ATA hard drive so they are available from any computer shop. E.g. PC World if you prefer to walk in to a store on a retail park.
The term IDE /ATA/ATA100/ATA66 etc etc are all pretty much one and the same thing so don't worry about that. The only drives that won't work are the new Serial ATA (SATA) drives that are used in new Macs/PCs. You should buy a faster 7,200rpm drive with a cache of at least 8Mb.
I bought my 320Gb drive from dabs.com - I've bought, RAM, disk, media, printers and whole macs from them and have been very happy with the prices and service. If you wanted to shop around I like dealtime.co.uk.
The first iMac G4's i.e. pre June 02 may have trouble addressing hard disks greater than 128Gb. - So long as your machine is younger it should be okay.

  • Opening a dv7-3080us laptop

I have a Pavilion dv7-3080us laptop.  I need to open the hard drive bays to install a new disk.  I also need to open the entire case, to blow clean the fans, as the unit is prone to overheating, these days.
    The problems are:
    1) when I try to open the drive bay, the screws turn, but don't come out, and the bay cover can't be removed
    2) when opening the entire case, after removing what I believed were all the appropriate screws, the case wouldn't open
It's possible that item 1 is impacting item 2.  If the bay (and memory) cover(s) need to be removed first, that would explain item 2.
Anyone have any suggestions?  I really want to get the case opened and cleaned out before the unit is damaged beyond repair.
    Thanks!
    Harry

  • HP Pavilion dv7 6031eo hard disk voodoo, making 2 physical disk appear as 1 physical disk

My HP Pavilion dv7 6031eo hard disk is failing.  88 Bad sectors.
I was planning to bring new hard disk. I decided to look under hood to see what kind of disk I would need.
Suprise suprise, I already had 2 hard disk in my HP Pavilion dv7 6031eo. Windows detects only 1 hard disk. It is detected as TOSHIBA MK1059GSM.
So 2 things are possible :-
HP performs the feature of a "spanned disk" at the mother board level and hides dual/double disks from the OS. It then presents to OS a single disk of 1TB as TOSHIBA MK1059GSM (not sure why TOSHIBA)
HP forgot the plug in the second hard disk during manufacturing
    Which one is it ?
Now the thing(s) is/are failing as per SMART values.
How am I suppose to replace the disk ?
Do I need to replace both of disks, even though only a single disk is failing as per OS ?
Will replacing the disks with any other disk work or the HP firmware will go nuts ?
Why don't you document these things ?

I would replace the hard drive. That is a 640 gig 5400 rpm drive and you can get a bigger faster drive for a reasonable price.

If the computer is still working well enough to boot into Windows you can do a complete system backup and recover all your data, settings, programs, etc onto the new drive or we can help you do a disk clone of the old drive to the new.
Since your laptop will actually hold two hard drives simultaneously you could even put the old drive in the secondary bay so you have a copy of all your old stuff right at hand.

I installed a second hard disk to use as a backup a couple of years ago and it has always worked perfectly.
    Now it doesn't show up.
    What can I do?

Hi! First open the disk utility in apps>utilities>disk utility and see if it shows up in the left pane where you should be able to select it and repair it. That's where to start. Tom
