HP DV7-4267CL Drive Caddy

I have an HP DV7-4267CL and it currently has a 160GB primary sata hard drive.  I want to make the primary a 60 to 100 GB SSD and move the 160GB to the secondary.  What caddy(s) do I need to do this?  I need the exact parts because I am putting this on my Amazon wish list for Christmas and my wife is getting it for me and I want to avoid any returns.
Thank you very much.

    Hi,
The right part number for the hard drive kit is 681976-001. The support website for the laptop is on HP Sweden so run the part number on google.co.uk (or your Swedish). I have found the cheapest on us amazon for $38 or £42.

  • T520 2nd HD Hard Drive Caddy Tray for SSD?

i want to use the DVD tray to add a 2nd hard drive using one of the many 2nd HD Hard Drive Caddy Trays i see online, but i want to use a solid state drive in it.  Can this be done? From what i ascertain via product literature, it appears that any caddy tray i see online says "accepts 2.5' 12.7MM SATA HDD only" or some such."  While there are many SSD's that are 2.5 inch, I've only seen ones that are either 7mm or "7mm (with 9.5mm adapter)."  Is there a product (either a T520-compatible 9.5mm caddy tray or a 12.77mm SSD) that can make this work?  thanks.
    Solved!

12.5mm is the maximum height. A 7mm or 9.5mm should work without any issues

  • W530 Drive Bay Adapter and Drive Caddy

I purchased a W530 and immediatly swapped out the included hard drive for an SSD. I also purchased the drive bay adapter and planned on moving that original drive to it, but it did not come with a drive caddy. If the drive bay does not come with an extra one, and hard drives do not come with them.... why was it not included? Where do I purchase one? Does it need those rubber sides that are now around the SSD?

    Hey Chuntley,
If you search around the forums you will find a lot of post on this or close to this subject about installing a second drive to W530.
Here is a link to one such post.

  • T520 : hard drive caddy

Hello, I have a thinkpad T520 and I recently purchased the "ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III" from lenovo.com however it didn't come with a hard drive caddy like the internal drive has
This looks like the hard drive caddy it requires.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Thinkpad-X60-X60s-X61s-Hard-Drive-2-5-Caddy-Kit-YG35A-/320721833450?pt=PCC_D...
Without this the drive will rattle/move around in the bay adapter and not have a firm fit.
It seems very odd to me that lenovo didn't include this considering that it seems to be required. I paid $60 for that bay adapter and I see those drive caddies going for as low as $4 on ebay.
Does anyone know a place where I can get one that does not in anyway involve ebay or paypal? I can't seem to find them on lenovo's site other than having to buy one of their hard drives that seem to include one.
Moderator Note: Edited subject to match content.

Well when i purchased the 500gb hdd and the ultrabay III for the thinkpad t510, the only way which the hdd fits into the ultrabay III is for me to take off the rubber railings and everything else and just put it into the caddy "naked." so far everything has been fine and if you look at the instruction booklet for installing the hdd into the ultrabay III, it specifically states to remove the rubber railings and other stuff and then slide it "naked" into the hdd caddy and then insert it into the thinkpad optical drive area.

  • Hard drive caddy - T61 - How does this thing work?

I have a 200gig hard drive on my T61.  Since my computer has died twice in a year I want to have a cloned hard drive handy to insert and not miss a beat and not fuss with reinstalling everything.
When I bought the machine I also bouht a hard drive caddy...
    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?...
I bought a SATA 500 gig hard drive and inserted this into the hard drive caddy.
I inserted the caddy into the CD drive area.
    Now what?
When I click on "My Computer" I do not see the drive listed?
Do I need special software to make a clone of my hard drive on here?   Recommendations?
I thought Lenovo had one that came with it, but I do not see anything?
Should "My Computer" see this drive with the caddy?
    All advice greatly appreciated!!

Good advice, same as the Lenovo Tech support.  Unfortunately it does not see the new drive there either...
    Right clicked My Computer
    Manage
    Disk  Management
    (Only C: drive shows)
This is the way to initialize drives, a step before cloning apparently to set up a new drive.
I ordered a SATA to USB cable from Amazon for $28.  Hopefully this will work were yet another Lenovo periferal has failed.
Very frustrated with Lenovo, definitely my last one.  After buying 3 in a year from Lenovo even with a warranty all I get is attitude from customer service.  One guy told me that backing up was the same as cloning.
For anyone with the same problem trying to clone, I believe you will need a 3rd party software to make a clone.
    Norton Ghost - $70
    CloneZilla - Free
    1. Get Hard Drive
    2. Connect new hard drive
    3. Initialize new hard drive
    4. Get third party software
    5. Clone

  • X220 drive caddy

Does anyone know where I can purchase the aluminum drive caddy, screws and rubber rails to install a 7mm drive in an x220 primary drive bay?  What are the part numbers?
    Thanks

Unfortunately Lenovo only sells the caddy with a drive. The rubber rails can be purchased separately.
You can however purchase from an Ebay vendor.

  • Does drive caddy include rubber rails?

I'm thinking of getting a drive caddy (0A65623) to install a second hard disk in my W520.
I presume the disk needs to be fitted with the small metal tray and rubber bumper rails to fit the caddy.
Are the tray and rubber rails included with the caddy?  If not, does anyone know the part number for them.
    Thanks
    KD

    @combthins:
    - If you're going to be using your laptop indoors and dust or aesthetics are not a worry, there are bay adaptors on amazon and ebay as low as around 10 bugs, and usually those adaptors have screws in it so you can just place and attach your hdd, no caddy, no rubber rails; But it has the disadvantage that it'll leave some gaps above and below the adaptor which, as mentioned, will affect aesthetics and will allow dust entering into that space.
    - those w series laptops are machines that are evaluated to very stringent specifications so they can sustain some abuse working in outdoors thus the original adaptor you're looking for (0A65623) fits in perfectly and has a layer (plastic or something) so as to prevent dust entering and as you can see in the original lenovo description (in the third picture) it shows the hdd being placed with an additional and non included caddy, also you can see the reviewers complaining about the fact that the necessary rubber rails are not included, thus the need for the part number. see in Amazon there is an user video that shows the adaptor and the need of rails.
    the required parts are:
for 9.5mm hdd: 41V9756 (description, amazon (caddy indluded))
for 7mm hdd: 04W1640 (description, ebay (caddy included))
::: In conclusion if you want to configure your computer the way it is meant to, go for the original part and grab the caddy and rails. If you want to save money and stay indoors grab a cheap adaptor and don't complain about gaps.
(However you do have the option of buying an newmodeUS caddy for 45+  (around the same price of the original one) and that one won't leave gaps nor will it require anything else (but it is somehow inferior to the original one for about the same price)

  • W510 Support for SSDs using hard drive caddy?

I just bought a Crucial M4 512GB SSD and I cannot get this thing to work in the hard drive caddy.  Works fine in the primary slot, but can't initialize/partition/format/anything when using it with my official Lenovo hard drive caddy.  So what SSDs does the caddy support?

Ok, I feel a little dumb.  I got the M4 working.  In the past, I've been able to hot swap my 2nd drives.  Apparently this no longer works (need to figure out why).  I plugged in my old HDD while booted up and got the same "drive not initialized" error on it.  After a reboot, the HDD was up and running.  So tried the same with the SSD and it's working.  I thought I had done this as part of my troubleshooting but I guess not :/

  • Screws to secure hard drive caddy to laptop (DV9930US)?

    Hi,
I have a DV9930US laptop, which has two slots for hard drives.
I recently started have problems with BSODs (0x000000F4), and I think (hope) that I've found the problem.  I was about to try to replace the 2nd drive, but when I went to pull it out, I noted that the connector was barely set into the connector on the motherboard.
When I had originally installed the 2nd hard drive, I noticed that there are two screw holes that match holes in the caddy, but I couldn't find any screws that fit into those screw holes.  The original/1st hard drive has similar holes, but no screws came with that either.
So, I was wondering if anyone knows the specs for those screws, or where I might be able to get four of them?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,
You can probably ignore my earlier post.
I just noticed that the captive screws that are attached to the drive cover go through the ears on the drive caddy and into the posts on the laptop, so I think that those captive screws are meant to both hold the cover and the drive/drive caddy itself down.
I put a couple of pads between the cover and the drive then put the cover back on.  I'm hoping that those pads will add enough pressure to keep the drive in place and connected.
    Jim
