HP dv7 black screen lights flickering

Hello,
My HP Pavilion 7-2100 with Windows Vista doesn't start up well.
If I press the on-button I can hear the notebook and there are to lights of the num-lock and caps-lock flickering and the screen is black.
Could anybody help me please?
PS: My English isn't very good,
so if I said something unkind: I'm sorry!

Hi @BennyJ ,
You would be able to check this by connecting a monitor. If it shows then that is possible to do a system restore from there.
Thanks.

  • Windows 8.1 update - S440 ThinkPad black screen with flickering cursor.

    Hello,
Sorry if this is answered elsewhere.
I have an S440. I've had it for one week. Two days ago I downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store. Since then, when I start up the computer, it doesn't even taken me to the 'sign in' screen. There's just a black screen. When I move the cursor, it briefly appears, flickers, then disappears again.
I understand this is an issue with the graphics drivers. So I ran Windows in safemode and disabled Intel R HD Graphics family and AMD Radeon HD  8600 series graphics drivers.
This, unfortunately, hasn't fixed the problem. It still boots to a black screen with an occasionally flickering cursor. I'm currently running in safemode.
    Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hi
I also have an S440 and have tried 3 times to update laptop without success including updating all drivers and updates inc those from Lenovo.
Is there a fix for this? Is this an AMD issue?
My laptop is also very new and cannot believe it is incompatible with windows 8.1.
Tried the compatibility checker with Windows 8.1and it didn't report any problems.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/upgrade-assistant-download-online-faq
Is there anything that can be done to get this working?

  • Windows doesn't start. Black screen. lights are on. no usb functions.

Hello there: I had a "display driver stopped working and has recovered" message for a while after upgrading to win 8.1. Now i get black screen. Nothing works. Hp pavilion 2700. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    HI @Luke_Lasting ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 2700 Notebook and black screen. Here is a document on computer will not start.
You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
    Hope this is helpful.
    Thanks.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness shows up, the first thing to try is a proper reboot:
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Good luck!

Just turned on my ipad 2 wi-fi , black screen lights up to lighter black but I cant see a thing on it... does anyone have any ideas on what's wrong with it?

Try this First... No Data will be Lost...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

Yup, probably something corrupted in the backups of OSX.
I reinstalled OS X and I am now restoring my personal data from backup within the setup assistant.
However I don't know if iChat works again.
If it was a problem with OSX or the iChat app, you've got a new version of each, so probably.
    Keep us posted.

Will not show up in safe mode, will not show when started from Windows 7 DVD.

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Macbook pro screen flickering brightness/black screen?

on saturday night I was using my MacBook pro and drinking water when my friend made me laugh so I accidentally spit like 5 drops of water onto my macbook screen. the drops leaking down into the base, not exactly the keyboard but just right under the screen where it would drip down. a instantly got a towel and dried it off but the macbooks screen statted flickering off and on. then it went permanently black but it seemed like it was still on. I tried to hold down the power button and it would make all the on and off noises just the screen wouldn't work. it would maybe flash for a second but then just go dark. I made the mistake of not turning it completely off when it first happened because I didn't know what to do but after maybe 10 minutes I turned it off and opened it up and kept it upside down the whole night to let the water come out if there was any. the next day around 12pm I turned it on and everything was working completely fine. no problems or signs that eer spit the water. then the next day (Monday) half way thru the day I was watching Netflix and I noticed every 5 minutes or so the screen would dim no matter what brightness I had it on and after a couple seconds it would go back to regular brightness. after like an hour it started doing that more frequently and it gave a black screen until I moved the cursor. I paniced and shut it off for the rest of day thinking it would be better the next day. well the next day (today) I turned it on and it was even worse. it's almost like the screen is having spaz attacks every 2 minutes. it'll go dim or bright randomly and then go black until I move the cursor and when it gowa dim there's these weird bright lights things coming from the bottom of the screen. but other then that the macbook works completely fine. iit's still usable, and the screen spasms are annoying but I could live with them. but first I want to make sure it's not going to get worse and worse everyday and just permantly die soon. im only 15 and Ive been dreading telling my parents what happened but if i have to replace something I have to tell them. I've tried researching what I have to replace but no one has my exact symptoms. I think I'd either have to replace the Lcd (whatever that is??) or the inverter. someone please help, thank you!!

  • Black Screen on Hp Pavilion dv7 Notebook

I have had my Hp dv7 notebook for a few months now and have had no problems. But all of a sudden, I turn on the computer and see nothng but a blank, black screen. I do not know if I changed the display settings or what, but I cannot see anything. I know the computer is functioning because the fan turns on and the keyboard lights work. When I connected my laptop to an external monitor, I was able to see that my computer was on and fully functional. In fact, I am using it right now on an external monitor to type this message.
Just wondering if I made a silly mistake or if this is something serious, please help asap
    Thanks, Mike

    Hi Mike,
If you press f4 do you see a menu on the external display with the options 'Computer Only; Duplicate; Extend; Projector Only'?  If you do, use the arrow keys to select Duplicate then hit enter.
Does anything show on your notebooks screen now?
Let me know before going any further.

Black screen during start up and waking from sleepHP Dv7-6b75nr laptop, updated from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10 "Home" on the 2nd AugustDual Display adapters...AMD Radeon HD Graphics 6700M Series and Intel® HD Graphics 3000Upgraded to Windows 10 64bit "Home" and now have long periods of black screen…After boot:10 seconds of the new Windows 10 icon with the rotating "dots". Followed by 65 seconds of "nothing" on the screen, followed by the "log in" screen that stays on the screen until the desktop appears. The HDD light shows activity for about the first 30 seconds, then a flash or two for the next 30/40 seconds! From Sleep:65 seconds of black screen before the "log in" screen appears. HDD light has little or no activity until the "login" screen limps on the screen. I have tried disabling everything from the "Startup" via Task Manager and "Services" via msconfig (disable all except Microsoft products)I know from past experience, this is normally a driver issues...and I never install drivers unless they are offered by HP for the their HP laptop...So:I was offered an update from AMD when I finished installing Windows 10 "Home"…I ignored the first offer as I wanted to finish the total setup of "10" (UPDATE: AMD Catalyst Software Suite 15.20.1062.150715a-187146C)Over the past few days I have spent many hours trying to eradicate this black screen issueI have installed the AMD Catalyst update shown above, with no resolution...I then installed another update to the driver 15.20.1062.1002 which was offered by AMD ...still no correction...Right now I am back to my Windows 7 64 HP Display drivers (AMD Driver date 7/15/2015 version 15.200.1046.2) & (Intel® Driver date 05/27/2015 Version 9.17.10.4229)...which allow me the opportunity to go and get coffee before I see my desktop…I tried Windows 8 drivers from the HP website but that did not work eitherI disabled the Intel graphic drivers and the screen resolution was terrible!. I have not tried to disable the AMD driver.Does anyone have an answer?...looking at the post on this site, many have the same issues, so HP get busy...PS. many more issues with the 10 O.S. which show up in the "Reliability History" report, but most are corrected by disabling the respective "service" from the msconfig program. Windows 10 is definitely not a fast OS on this computer! In anticipation of a resolution, or I am back to Windows 7!Thank you

Try booting the Recovery Partition.  Power off, boot and then hold down the Command and R keys.  Is the screen still black?  If so it is not a software problem so take it in for diagnosis and repairs.  Make a Genius Bar reservation http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ or find an Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com/country .
If you are running Mavericks try upgrading to 10.9.2.  It has a fix for black screen problems.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
