HP DV7 Blu-Ray player problems. Please help!!

Hi i have a HP DV7 laptop with a blu-ray drive. I have watched many blu-rays on it in the past but recently they just aren't working.
I put the disc in and nothing happens i can hear it working inside but it doesn't even recognise that their is a disc in. Standard DVD's work fine though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
There may be several reasons why this is happening to you. What troublshooting steps have you completed as of yet? Have you changed anything in the OS or installed any big programs since you last used the Blu-ray feature of the drive?
What program do you usually use to play Blu-rays?
My first suggestion would be to delete the upper & lower filtersfirst : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Let us know hows it works out for you. =)

  • GX660R-Blu Ray Player Problem

I wonder if someone can help......but please bear in mind that I have the technical capacity of a glass of water.
I recently bought an MSI GX660XR with the following configuration:
    CPU: Intel Core i5-460M
    Graphics - ATI Radeon HD5870 / 1GB DDR5
    RAM - DDR111 6GB
As far as I can make out all drivers are up to date.
I was under the impression that this was a blu ray enabled player but, despite having PowerDVD 10 installed, it does not recognise any blu ray discs.  Nothing happens at all.
In checking the hardware descriptionfor the "DVD/CDROM Drives" in the Device Manager it reads: HL-DT-ST-DVDRAM GT40N.
Is this a Blu Ray player does anyone know?????  If so, any ideas what is going on?

yep....in re-checking the Overclockers website I now find that I have in fact bought the 'B' grade model.........
it's what you get for reading the advert but not double checking the product description properly.
for anyone reading this please be careful not to make the same mistake
    thanks for your help though

Can any one out there help, my new touchsmart that is compatable with Blue Ray DvD's is unable to read or play bule ray DvD's, but has no problems when it comes to CD's or DvD's it plays it perfectly with no hickups, i've tried up dating my BD ROM firmware and software programs for playing blue ray DVD, yet no solutions. its been suggested that i do a power drain, upgrade to Window 7 as window media supports Blue Ray DVD's, and i've  done a full system recovery, and the Only thing i can think of is exchanging the BD Rom drive, but very puzzeled that since i am able to read every other format, i dont think its a hard drive issues.

I checked my start menu/program list, and dont have the "DVD Play & HD DVD" but i do have Hp MediaSmartDVD and done an update already and also tried other license software player programs but to no avail. less i forget, the first time i did try playing a blue ray dvd it worked for only 5mins and since then it no longer works, when i insert the Blue ray DVD, you can hear the system/DICS spining, trying to read the BlueRay DISC & making a clicking or skipping sound, and it then finally stop spinning. I've tried every little or major thing, from software, firmware, drivers to a FULL system Recovery and am now only left with changing the actual DVD/CD HardDriver.
If you could think of any other solution please feel free to post it as it probably benefit the whole forum.

  • HP DVD PLAY AND BLU RAY PLAYER PROBLEMS

Hi guys, just had a few problems recently with my HP dvd and blu-ray software....
I have been using the software for about the last 2 years without problems, but recently i have tried using both DVD's and Blu-Ray discs, and they do not start playing either through autoplay (inserting the disc), or hitting the play button on the player.
I have tried updating from the menu, but whenever I try to do this my Internet says that "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded". However, I do not have any other problems downloading different files and other updates.
If anyone has experienced this problem before or knows how to fix it, please help me out!

Temporarily turn off your internet software. Download and SAVE the update to your desktop, disconnect your computer from the internet, then turn off your antivirus. Do not plug in any USB flash drives as this may transfer viruses. Install the software, when you're done, turn on the antivirus, re-connect your computer to the internet.
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.
1 HP TouchPad 32 GB with Android
    2 HP Touchsmarts (310-1000z and IQ527)
    2 HP Printers (J6480 and J5750)
    1 Laptop (HP DV6253CL)
Have at least some experience in each of those devices, and i'll do my best to help you.
    Kudos if I helped!

  • DVD player -problem  Please Help!!

    Hi all,
I was trying to play a friend's wedding DVD on my PM G5, and it plays fine until a certain point in the DVD, after which it hangs with spinning beach ball. I then get an error that "disk cannot play either dirty or scratched". I have checked the disk and it is neither dirty nor scratched.
What is puzzling is that I can play the DVD on my home DVD set-top box without any problems. The areas where it would hang while played on the computer, play just fine now! What could be the problem??
Running OS 10.4.3 with 4.6.1 ver on DVD player

Okay, I just tried something I found in a previous discussion which mentioned someone having the problem of audio working only when sound is routed to either the right or left. When sound is set in the center preference option, the dialogue disappears. The music and other sounds are find regardless, so I still a bit baffled.

Can I connect my Apple TV to the Blu-Ray using an HDMI/ USB adapter?
If you can find such a thing.  I really doubt that exists since USB is a data connector not a video connector.
would allow me to run the audio through my stereo.
That would depend on this adapter.

  • New Blu-ray player and DVD-R media... strange problem?

    Hello,
So, I have a sample disc that we made last year with various clips on it. To the best of my knowledge, everything has worked just fine. Now, I have a new Sony Blu-ray player. I put our sampler in, and one of the tracks does NOT play the audio. Plays the video, no audio. Inserting the same disc into our other players and the audio plays with the video just fine. Grab another sampler from a different build/burn. Same EXACT issue, on the same exact video track there is no audio but the disc works in all other players. Now here is the real kicker- take either sampler disc and play it in the Blu-ray player, go to the track that plays the video but no audio, play it for a few seconds, then rewind and play from the beginning, and you get sound. Jump back to the chapter index and choose the clip, no sound. Rewind & play you get sound.
Anyone want to give my any ideas as to what is going on?
    Mike
For what it's worth, the project was edited in FCP, Compressed using Compressor. I don't specifically know the exact settings, but I typically use VBR with an average of 6 or a CBR of 5. I always use AC3 audio. DVDSP authored the disc. I usually keep my systems up to date, but the disc was authored last January so I would have been using whatever the latest system updated in January were. And finally there are two builds of the disc. The 2nd build has DVD Rom content added to it. But either build has the same exact issue with the same exact tack.

Not Really. Try using another batch of discs. Author the project over again..maybe it will help.

  • Help hooking up new-Blu Ray player to old receiver

    Hi,
I just bought a Blu-Ray player and was hoping to just pull the cables out of my old Proscan DVD player (which is hooked up properly to my receiver) and plug them into the new player.
However, the new player has space for two audio-out cables and one video-out cable (Y). The old player has the same two audio-out cables but has three video-out cables (Pb, Pr, and Y).
I tried just hooking the Y into the new player and leaving the other two cables unplugged, but that leaves me with a fuzzy image on screen.
Do I need some sort of converter, or should I have bought a Blu-Ray player with the same cable setup? The one I bought is a Samsung BD-D5700. None of my components are HDMI. My Denon receiver has the same 3 video-out plugs as the old DVD player.
I'd appreciate any help you can offer!
    Sue

  • Recently bought an LG 3D tv and an LG 3d Blue Ray player but am having problems with my setup

I bought a 47LA6200 TV and a BP530 blue ray player. I have my cable box hooked up to HDMI 1, I have my blue ray hooked up to HDMI 2, and my XBox 360 to HDMI 3. I have my cable box hooked up to my older JVC RX880V stereo digital optical to digital optical without any 5.1 problems at all. My TV digital optical out is hooked up to my stereo digital optical port 2 without any 5.1 problems either, sort of. My BP530 is hooked up to my stereo digital coax to digital coax but I cannot get any 5.1 sound at all. Not through any of the digital channels on the stereo at all. The player only comes through as standard stereo through all 4 speakers and I am not sure if it is coming through the base speaker at all. I have tried every setting on both the TV and the blue ray player to no avail. I have even tried to not use the digital on my blue ray but when the stereo is set to play from my tv optical I still don't get 5.1 sound. When I do not use the TV optical out but I do use the digital coax out from the DVD player I still cannot play my DVDs in 5.1. I have new HDMI 15gbps HDMI cables and a new digital coaxial cable so I don't think it is a cable thing.
The real question is how do I get to hear my blue ray and DVD discs in 5.1 sound? Will this work if I exchange my blue ray player for a Denon 3D blue ray or other player?

  • Trying to connect Sony Blu Ray player to MI424WR router wired through in-wall connection, help!

Maybe someone can help me. My house has some pre-wired cat5e plugs in the walls. I have my MI424WR router upstairs and my Sony blu ray player downstairs. I first connected the router and blu ray player to the wall with cat5e cables, no luck. I then tried using a cat5e crossover cable from the router to the wall, no luck. The Sony blu ray player has everything set to auto, but do I need to configure something? Can someone help me figure out what is not working? Thank you.

    AEConfidential wrote:
Shouldn't the wiring in the wall act like a hub with the router plugged into one wall jack?
No.  cat5 wiring doesn't work that way.  Unlike phone wiring where all the wires are connected together, cat5 wiring connects point-to-point between two Ethernet devices.  You need a continuous cat5 path from the blu-ray player to the router.  The patch panel merely provides a termination point for each cable.
The easiest thing to do to get this working is to take a cat5 patch cord and use it as a jumper from the jack going to the blu-ray player and the jack going to the Actiontec router.  That will give you a continuous connection between the two devices.
Longer term, if you want to add devices in other rooms that have a cat5 cable, you will need to add a switch as viafax999 suggested.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_switch
    http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=30&Tpk=ethernet%20switch&Order=PRICE
You will need to connect the jack going to the Actiontec router as well as the jack going to each room where you want an Ethernet connection to the switch.  The number of rooms you want active will determine how many ports you need on the switch.

  • Blue ray player connection to web help

Just wondering if any iMac people have recently successfully connected their blue ray player to the internet? Apple tells me that I have to purchase "Apple TV" device. The Sony player (BDP-N460) I purchased said I only need to buy an additional 'Linksys-Cisco WET610N' wireless bridge and a LAN cable for it to work. Which is correct, or maybe both are, but which one is the more cost/efficient one? Thanks in advance!
    iMac Intel Duo,20",2.16Ghz,1GB,Airport Express

I too have the same BD player and have just connected the WET610n bridge to my Airport Extreme -- it's just a question of configuring this-or-that. Only that Linksys put the manual on a Mac-incompatible CD.
You can find the product manual on this page which describes the unit, and then go to the downloads page, select Version 1.0 from the drop-down menu, and then a link to Mac-compatible setup wizard will display. Download it if you like.
There's an easier way. Make sure your player is plugged into your TV and turn the TV on. (In my case, I was configuring the bridge with a Sony Bravia HDTV. I assume a Mac would be no different.) Press the MENU key on the BD player remote and navigate to the leftmost menu item, a small suitcase. Scroll down to select Network Settings, then Network Connection Diagnostics. When it tells you the obvious that you're not connected, backtrack to Internet Settings.
Assuming you've plugged the Ethernet cable and bridge together, and connected the bridge to a power outlet, you can select Wireless Bridge Setup. Since your network is out there waiting to be found, select Scan, and then select your network. An onscreen keypad will open for you to enter your security key, after which you'll experience a minute or two as the bridge gets programmed and a connection is made to your network.
Return to the suitcase menu and select Network Update to see if new system software is available for the BD player itself. If there is, it will download and warn you NOT to turn the power off.
You should now be able to download content off the net.

  • Samsung Blu-Ray player, Airport Extreme network, and streaming Netflix

I am very frustrated. Can you help? My husband just purchased a Samsung Blu-Ray BD-P3600 player and TV. I have read all of the forums on trying to connect this to an Airport Extreme network. After several days of trying different options, I still can not get the Blu-Ray player to connect to my network and be able to stream Netflix. The only way that I have gotten close is through the wireless connection devise and putting in the IP address etc. When doing a network test, if checks the MAC Address and the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, DNS Server. It then pauses for a long time and tells me that the Gateway Ping won't work. It says, "Your network cannot operate properly." I have not had any trouble connecting any computers or printers to the network. Why can I not get this to work? Please tell me what I am doing wrong. I know just enough to be dangerous. Thank you!

Hi - I found this on CNET but not a techie so not sure if this will work - I have Airport Extreme & just bought 2 Samsung Blu-Ray BD-P3600 players to use w/NetFlix and have called Samsung tech support 3 times w/no luck - the last time the technician said that Apple/Samsung WIFI not compatible - I have a 13 character pswd so that my roommate who has a PC can connect - we don't have any problems with any other connections to Airport Extreme -

found this about setting up a psp with airport should help:
"Apple does not mandate that your WEP password is the correct length. In the real world of WEP (non Apple devices) they actually require that your WEP key is a specified length dependent on the bit level of encryption. If you are using HEX or ASCII encoding these passwords can get as high as 26 to 40 characters long. Yea, thats a long pass code! Your Mac sitting in your house doesn't care about all that mumbo jumbo. You can put any old password in the AirPort Admin utility and it will take it.
I learned over at Gaming-Age that I could get away with a 13 character WEP Key. You should, however, stick with 128 bit WEP as this is better protection, and works well with the PSP (I run my AirPort Express in 802.11b/g Compatible Mode). Once you set your WEP key and update your AirPort you can setup your PSP. Now just setup your PSP for Wi-Fi Infrastructure mode"
    and this:
The trick is that to use the hexadecimal key with an Apple AirPort Card, you must enter a dollar-sign before the hex number, like

  • LAN Connection Error: Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu Ray Player

    Hello,
My Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu Ray player has a wired LAN connection port that is used to download firmware updates.
When I was using a DLink WBR-2310 with Verizon DSL the system worked perfectly with the BD35 player wired to a LAN port on the DLink router. I recently switched to Verizon FiOS and now the BD35 player is wired to LAN port 2 on the FiOS wireless router.
The BD35 is no longer able to connect to the network now that it is wired to the FiOS router. When I run the connection test an error is returned, "Cannot obtain IP Address using DHCP." However, all of my other network devices (Wii, Laptops, Desktops, Print Router, etc.) have had no problem connecting to the router, both wirelessly and wired. I have even wired a laptop to the jack that the BD35 is using and the laptop connects just fine (wireless turned off). Also, I checked the Port Configuration screen on the router and Port 2 is showing that it is connected at 100Mbps Full-Duplex when the BD35 is on, but the device does not appear on the list of devices connected on the My Network screen.
Here are the settings on the BD35:
    - IP Address Auto Configuration (DHCP) = ON
    - DNS Auto Configuration (DHCP) = OFF
    - Auto Detect Connection Speed = ON
Does anyone have experience with this issue? Is it possible to setup a Static IP for the BD35 in the router using the MAC Address for the BD35?
    Thank you!

I'm not familiar with the Panasonic BD35 but I would suggest that you try it with DNS Auto Configuration turned on.
You may also be able to set it up with a  manual address that is way out of the range of anything that you woudl normally use.
    Try the following:
Check the TCP/IP Address that your PC is getting.  Assuming your IP Address is set to 192.168.1.x set the Panasonic to
    IP Address: 192.168.1.200
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS: 192.168.1.1
The Verizon STBs will use 100 to 150 and your other DHCP Devices woudl normally use the addresses between 2 and 99.
If you still have problems try using OpenDNS and set the DNS address to 208.67.222.222.

  • No More Surround Sound on Blu-ray player after Upgrade in MediaSmart

When I used the Blu-ray player in my home theatre I selected the "HDMI pass through" mode to get surround sound. I came across some new movies that would not play and after the update from HP the player would simply freeze up as soon as there was audio present. I had to go into the task manager to shut it down.
MediaSmart works fine on the laptop, but it only freezes up when I use the "HDMI pass through" setting.
I have tried "HDMI pcm" mode and that doesn't work either. The Denon receiver shows there are five channels working but I only get stereo sound out of the front left and right speakers. This would indicate that the Blu-ray player is not outputting in 5.1 surrond sound and that the laptop and the Denon receiver is working fine.
Hp supports' solution was to reinstall the old driver or try a system restore. I know a system restore isn't going to do anything. The problem is in the new software. The new software did not work on my HDX18 when it was in Vista, it didn't work when I upgraded to Windows 7 and it doesn't on my new dv8.
I tried contacting CyberLink to let them know that the upgrade is giving problems, but I think they are ignoring me.
Personally I think that either HP or Cyberlink just forgot to add the drivers for 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound.
If someone were to find a solution to this one I would be surprised. I am quite certain I covered every possibility, but you never know.
     Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

OK, I found a solution. SORT OF. I use the laptop to watch region "B" Blu-ray movies that I buy out of England. Rather than set Media Smart to region "B" I purchased software from SlySoft.com. When the software is running it removes the region code and all that annoying copy protection. Fox is the worst, followed by Walt Disney. (Pixar Animation and Buena Vista) One specific movie that would not play on the old Media Smart software was "Ice Age 3 Dawn Of The Dinosaurs. When I tried, a red window came up prompting me to go to Cyberlink for an update. Of course after that the movie would play, but I had no surround sound in my home theatre.
So now I use the old Media Smart  software and run SlySoft...no more red window...I have surround sound in my theatre through HDMI pass through.
The problem with this solution is that Slysoft costs around 114.00$ U.S. for a life time membership and free updates forever. HMMM.
